Tried a pillow mask, didn't know about the aloe trick... But in addition to the irritation, I woke up feeling like I got punched in the nose. Seriously sore to the touch and half expected to see a big purple bruise when I looked in the mirror, but no bruise... wasn't even red, just dang sore. And that's with the mask strapped just barely snug enough to seal. Switched to a a nasal cushion mask. Saw your recent vid on how to fit it and realized I had not been wearing it high enough on my nose. Followed your video and to get the "ride height" correct and my leak rate has improved. So thanks!

It does, but it’s more expensive. Aloe Vera is something that most people have already.

I sleep on my back and had a different problem: the lower edge of the pillow that rests on my upper lip below the nose was digging in and going to cause pressure sores. I cut out strips of micro terry from the soles of running socks (ones with VERY thin padding) and stick them on beneath my nose with Cover Roll Stretch tape. I use the smallest effective pieces of tape on the ends of the cloth strip because it's important to maintain breathability for the skin.
Looks dorky but works better for me than other recs I've seen and tried, such as thick micropore tape. I don't think that was going to provide enough padding, and the adhesive stuck too well to my face, harming my skin on removal.
It also helps to keep the mask as loose as possible without leaking, but that must be more challenging for side sleepers.

Vanicream moisturiser. Cheap, and has anti-aging and moisturizing ingredients so it does double duty. Three hours later the redness/iritation is gone (and I'm ginger so it's really noticeable when it's there). Also found the better the masks fits and the less humidity, the less irritation.

Lanolin works great applied in a thin layer just inside the nose and the skin outside. It heals abrasions quickly and prevents them. Lasinoh is the main brand I know of. A little goes a very long way.

Emu oil works for me and it has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. When I first started with nasal pillows I suffered with constant sneezing and runny nose during the day. The emu oil worked for me the first night. It's not cheap but a little goes a very long way. Just make sure to get pure emu oil with no addititives or scents / perfumes.

Hey there Jawsun, I'm finally jumping into comments after a few months of obsessively following and utilizing your thoughts and advice, so, thank you!
TLDR: I am getting almost daily headaches despite best practices
So, yeah, I started having headaches daily. Not so bad in morning, mild, and then throughout rest of day it just doesn't go away. Maybe will go away by time for bed. Painkillers don't work, allergy medication doesn't work (truly, not at all, not aspirin, tylenol or advil etc)
So I was drawn to your channel primarily (there are others, but yours is by far the best!)
Since then I've dialed in my CPAP from EPAP. I've moved humidity up and down. I've turn off, up, and down EPR. I have tried nasal pillows, nasal mask and full face mask. I have moved pressure up and down. Changed filters, tubes, etc. Cleaned regularly (I even bought some mask bright). Oh and just started doing saline rinses before bed. Straps tight, straps loose.
Which has led to some great AHI scores. Last night I registered one of my lowest ever, 0.38!
But also I have a headache again today, despited the "great result" :/
So I'm writing because to be honest after about 2.5 years I'm pretty much about to give up. I think the first video I found of yours was about not giving up so I'm pinging you to see if you have encountered this with any patients, and have any insights. I feel like I have tried every last thing.
Happy, of course to hop over to your site and pay for a consult. wanted to ping you here first.
So: headaches, chronic, sinus-ish (dull pain behind eyes, more pain on both sides of head). It's literally ruining my life, I can't think or do and things just aren't exciting or joyful with a headache, it turns out. Any ideas? Thanks so much :)

I don’t know if this is help anybody but I used to fill the tank up where they said and I could not stand that so I started just filling it up just enough to get me started through the night and then it dried up overnight that helps me summer and winter. The best thing you can do is help each other if it works for you great if it doesn’t try something different I’m glad there are people out there like this person to go ahead and help us with our problems on our mass and yes, when I first started, I thought it was something getting a hold of my neck and just wrestling me to the ground. By the time I got done or usually wound up either throw in the machine on the floor where I was on the floor. That’s how bad it got finally got used to it.

I love my nose pillow. My only issue is, I have trouble finding the right fit with the straps. It’s either too tight or too loose. Don’t know what my problem is.
I had such a horrible time finding the right mask. And the technicians at the store I have to go to are no help. The locations go to is only 10 mins from my house so it’s really convenient. I had to do a bunch of googling and searching on RUclips.

Great video.. I can't get the pillows to work as when I lay on my side it still comes out, and if I have too tight my nose blisters.. shame I think they're the morlst effective in giving you the full airflow from the machine

So I’ve used the Zappah for a number of years. It was my attempt to not have to “depend” on cpap to sleep. At first it lessened my snoring and did stop the gasping for air awakenings, but over the years as I’ve gotten older I still snore and have the gasping awakening. I am waiting for my new cpap machine to arrive as it became obvious that the Zyppah was not helping me get a good nights sleep any longer and it changed my bite. My muscle memory has made it to where I now have almost an underbite and my molars don’t meat any longer so chewing food has become a problem over time. So once I get my machine and ditch the Zyppah I’m going to have to retrain my jaw. I still might get one of the neutral sports mouth pieces to wear as I have gotten used to it being in my mouth and I think that muscle memory might actatly help me prevent mouth leaks when I finally get my machine. Best advice I could give is skip Zyppah and just get a proper sleep study and begin your journey to a good nights sleep using CPAP if needed. I wish I had just done the leg work sooner and gotten tested for apnea back when I started using the Zyppah.

  • @NotMyActualName_

You actually CAN train yourself to reduce mouth leaks. If you're relying on tape to prevent a leak, you've already lost the seal that matters, which is your tongue against your pallet. Your lips aren't what should be preventing the pressure escaping. Two steps for the training: 1) while awake and goign about your daily life, try to keep your tongue up against the roof of your mouth. Press it there and suck slightly to create a bit of a suction seal. That gives you some passive hold with your tongue so it won't just flop back down. Do this often enough and you'll find it starts becoming natural to hold this position. 2) Practice the same move but while wearing the mask for a while before before. You're training yoursel fto breathe exclusively through your nose while wearing the mask.

I used this p10 nasal pillows for a couple of years and suddenly got sores. I stopped for a week and went back to the pillows and straight away tge sores came back. Im just wondering because you said the skin toughens up pretty quick but shouldn't it be tough already after using the cushions so long initially with no problem? Or have i developed an allergy to the stuff it's made from. Im wondering if changing to a cradle instead of pillows will work 🤔

I’ve had my machine about two weeks now. Last night I woke up and it was very difficult to get air OUT of my nose (I’m using the nasal pillow set up) can anything get clogged ? Why would it suddenly be more difficult to break out? Was not having this problem at all before. It was bad enough I had to remove it last night.
    Thanks.

Does anyone else find they HAVE to have humidification? I keep mine on 3, but recently I had a cold and I remember waking up in immense pain from cold "dry" air shooting up my nose. So I ramped that sucker up to 5 and it was wonderful.
...until the day the congestion set in and I had to switch to that @&$#ing full face mask. Trying to breathe with someone's moist taint on your face is no bueno. (You're welcome. And don't ask me how I know what that's like.)
