Thanks, Warren and Austrian Audio for a fantastic opportunity! Well done to the AA team for starting up a company and it's always great to hear mics tested out and to hear Steve's voice! My favourite voice in the academy multitracks, no less!
Fun fact is Warren, through your channel here on youtube over the years i learned about gear which is made where i live, like lewitt and AA. I am really proud to make music with professional gear where i come from. guess the factory is not far where i live in Vienna. already use the headphones for recording and mixing, which are top! and will get the mic soon. again awesome channel!🤘
I forgot how noisy NAMM were! Great song guys, how cool is Steve playing with one hand and tapping the beat with the other. Vote for Austian Audio at the Tech Awards!
As a relatively new academy member I have never been more excited to work on a mix of a song. A big genesis fan (i also had a blast working on the solsbury hill cover, and thank you again for the excellent review of my mix). These songs hit me where it counts (assuming we are similar in age so we tend to have similar tastes). Thank you again Warren, I appreciate everything I've been able to take from the academy.
Hi from Turkey I ordered this mic before watching this video. Good job. I'm right about this mic. I was using se 2200 I hope things will change on vocal recording
The recording sounded great! I have one little nick pick about the guitar in the verse though, I noticed it in the video where you analyzed this song as well. The phrase ends on the up stroke not on the down stroke as you play. I don't know if you intentionally did this because you prefer it but to me it completely changes the feel and intensity of this part. The keyboardist in the video played it correctly. Other than that the interpretation of the song was top notch, really enjoyed it! Cheers.
Great version. Seems like Genesis probably slowed down in the "chorus" ("I, I, I" part). I also find it super interesting that the drummer switches from left to right sticking constantly.
I am excited to hear about Austrian Audio. I would be interested in seeing you feature other mics in their product line, especially a handheld condenser vocal mic. I have worked in live event production (as well as a little recording production) for years, my 1st choice mic in many situations is the C535EB. (Now discontinued by AKG)
Their range is currently limited to two LDCs and headphones. After the phenomenal reception of those products I would expect this will expand in the future.
Had this mic for a good few months as my voice over mic. Loved it! great to work with. But then I got a Soyuz 017FET and unless I needed something more neutral I didn't reach for it. Now I have a Sanken CU41 and I just don't have a place for it anymore. Great mic tho! (would pick it over a tlm103 for VO any day!)
This is the one condenser mic i want, so i ordered it. Good to see it can do stuff as expected, so if it doesn't sound good i know it's not the microphone's fault.
And when you've mastered playing the main guitar riff, skip forward on the album to Duke's End where the same chord pattern is stretched out over 6 bars of 4!
How to best choose between the AA OC18 and the Lewitt 540 S?! what are people's understandings? is one really better than the other? or are they equally gopd with just brighter sound on the highs for Lewitt and more of a smooth sound on AA OC18?! what will fit a male Baritone that will do both singing and voice acting?! or should I just go with the Shure SM7b?! what you guys say?! thanks to anyone getting back 😊🥂

Trying to record all the instruments well with one mic is at the very least difficult.
