If you listen closely (with headphones), it's Rob Halford hitting all the very high notes in the background .. but no one on this video touches Dio .. what a talent
he was awesome even before he sadly past away too. For me he is the voice of rock/metal.
Dio was good yes, but not at the level of Halford. Halford in that time had a vocal range only a couple of others could only ever dream of.
don dokken also hit's them notes and he can match and beat halford btw
@@GrandpaOCE no, he can't. Thas why Halford ia considered the metal god, not Dio.
@@TheMagno619 if you read what i said i said Don Dokken not Dio and yes Don Dokken can or could at least haha he old man now
That was a proud moment for us metal heads back in the day. We're Stars...
Fuck yeah..I'm honored to be a TRUE metal head/banger 🐐horns up!
I still have the original VHS when it first came out
Same here bro ! Great stuff.
Yep, me three...
The motivation by Ronnie James Dio & Vivian Campbell to do this thing, came after seeing the "We Are The World" project, and noticing the lack of musicians representing their genre of music. So Ronnie called upon his peers to show the world, that the heavy metal folk, too, were stars. In 1986, the most profitable genre of music was, in fact, heavy metal, which was why Ronnie found it very disrespectful that they weren't invited to "We Are The World."
Michael Holmgaard I remember RJD being the main artist in getting this done. R.I.P. RJD you are missed.
@@Chris_Clark1MaidenFan Glorious indeed. Only RJD could get so many legends to join. Maiden was still on tour, but Dave Murray & Adrian Smith still came to support the project?! That's how much respect Dio garnered...
Not just the musicians, but the world are stars, providing a guiding light to children of the world, who lived in the darkness of hunger, sickness and depression
@@Chris_Clark1MaidenFan It was his brainchild.
@@MichaelHolmgaard They didn't do it for Dio, they did it for the kids, numbnuts.
[Intro: Ronnie James Dio]
Who cries for the children? I do...
[Verse 1]
Dave Meniketti (Y&T):
Sometime in the night, when you're feeling the cold
Ronnie James Dio:
Take a look at the sky above you
Rob Halford (Judas Priest):
Those are faces in the light, if the story were told
Ronnie James Dio:
They are calling you, calling you
Yeah
[Pre-Chorus 1]
We are magic in the night
Kevin DuBrow (Quiet Riot):
We are shadow, we are light
Dave Meniketti:
We are forever you and I
[Chorus (vocal lead: Rob Halford)]
We're stars
We're stars
[Verse 2]
Eric Bloom (Blue Öyster Cult):
We can be strong, we are fire and stone
Paul Shortino (Quiet Riot, Rough Cutt):
And we all want to touch a rainbow
Geoff Tate (Queensrÿche):
But singers and songs will never change it alone
We are calling you, calling you
[Pre-Chorus 2]
Don Dokken (Dokken):
We're the beating of a heart
The beginning we're the start
Paul Shortino:
Forever we will shine
Yeah
[Chorus (vocal leads: Paul Shortino, Don Dokken, Ronnie James Dio, Geoff Tate)]
We're stars
We're stars
We're stars
We're stars

1st solo: Craig Goldie/Eddie Ojeda
2nd solo: Vivian Campbell/Brad Gillis
3rd solo: Neal Schon/George Lynch

Rob Halford:

Geoff Tate:
We are forever you and I
[Chorus (vocal leads: Dave Meniketti, Eric Bloom, Rob Halford)]
We're stars
We're stars
We're stars
We're stars
[Outro Chorus]
We're stars, yeah
We're stars
We are shadow, we are light

Love , love , love Dave Maneketti. I actually have this song saved on my RUclips watch later list.
Q*bert, thanks so much for the great breakdown of who sang what, and who played the guitar solos. I knew most of them, but some I didn't, so I really appreciate this. Peace!
Adrian Smith and Dave murray play the solos too
@@enriquemoreno2948 I don't think they did.
49 years old still proud to be metalhead !!!!!!!!
Listening to Dio sing puts a smile on my face, every time. THE MAN, THE LEGEND, THE HEAD OF THE METAL PANTHEON! THE GOD OF METAL, RONNIE JAMES DIO!
Ezequiel Morales, I smile too every time I see and hear Dio. He is greatly missed. Best metal vocalist ever!! The Master and God of metal, RJD! \m/
@@starburstppl Dio was good for what he did, but everybody has to die sometime.
I miss him as well!
Guitar rhythm section was Iron Maiden
Among others.
Aiden Macleod the rhythm section under the chorus
Hey it's the 76 year old grandma, this is one of my favorites, there is another video of this that is just the guitarists, they had to sort of audition for this in that video, you see who each one is and what band they are from, if you get a chance to see it, I Think you will love it. On a personal note, My,MY, look at all those pretty little puppies, but they are now just old dawgs just like me lol. Long live Rock and Roll.
This was actually the brainchild of Vivian Campbell (Dio guitarist) and Jimmy Bain (Dio bassist), who took the idea to Ronnie Dio. Ronnie was able to get all of the bands seen in the video together on the same day to record the song “Stars”. The song was written and produced by Ronnie as well.
It just so happened that Iron Maiden was on tour on the West coast at the time and Adrian and Dave just popped on in and magic happened totally by coincidence!
I haven't seen this in years. But I can still name 80% of these people. Great!
That was so cool. I don't remember ever seeing that before. I grew up listening to all those amazing artists.
That was a trip down memory lane.
Very cool
This is one of my favorite METAL songs from the 80's. I can remember as a 9th grader in 1986 always waiting for MTV to air this song. I think the song made a million dollars in its first year of release for the charity it represented.
RIP DIO & RANDY RHODES and all the other STARS we have lost......
lost part off myself when dio passed
I remember buying the cassette with 45 record back in 86 with my paper route money. I wish I never gave it away back in the 90s. But this song was so badass. Still is
I thought that I was the only one that thought this was great ! 👍🏻
You guys missed Geoff Tate in there a few times =) Man, this brings back memories.
Dave Mennekitti, the man.Y&T
Hi all
Kel 'n' Rich will come back very soon, for information; their computer crashed unfortunately.
As they use to to say, in waiting: "much love" (for all) :-)
And their own website is almost ready too.
Can't wait ^^

Suggest to them that they grab a cell phone and do a quick upload with an update!
Finally!!! This is epic. I got this vynil since it was released. Been waiting for this reaction. Glad you did it.
IN FLAMES - "Only for the Weak" LIVE at Hovet Stockholm 2014
The only ones I recognized while they were playing, other than what you did, were Carmine Appice, Kip Winger who was standing next to RJD in one quick scene and Uncle Ted!
Yes...as I recall, this was metal's answer to We Are The World....for African famine relief.
YOU ARE THE POWER COUPLE OF HARD ROCK/METAL REACTON : ROCK ON ! all guitarists and lead vocalists are - at one time or another - HUGE crowd attraction / headliners.
You didn't recognize Dave Meniketti. It's a shame Y&T wasn't more successful. They had great stuff.
In 1988 another multi rock star project called Rock Aid Armenia to help with relief efforts after a major earthquake there. Rock Aid Armenia has its own RUclips page. The song was a cover version of Deep Purple's Smoke On The Water.
Arthur Romero Can’t believe I forgot about that.
Always loved that, you should check out the vocal outtakes of Hearing Aid, so cool to check out.
Hear 'n Aid was a heavy metal charitable musical project envisioned by Ronnie James Dio and fellow Dio band mates Jimmy Bain and Vivian Campbell with the purpose of raising money for famine relief in Africa.[1]
The Hear 'n Aid project, spearheaded by Ronnie, culminated in a one-time studio collaboration of 40 individual rock and heavy metal artists. The resultant products included a single purpose-created studio track entitled "Stars", which was combined with eight other tracks (several of which were contributed by artists who were on tour and unable to attend and participate directly) and was released as a compilation, as well as video footage taken during the recording sessions.Prior to the album release, and indicative of their business acumen and commitment to the project's success, Ronnie, Jimmy and Vivian established Hear 'n Aid as a full fledged non-profit (presumably to avoid experiencing similar missteps and pitfalls encountered with previous African aid efforts). "Hear ’n Aid had to be a non-profit organisation… We had to set up a board of directors, fourteen people, and all decisions had to be made by the board. My role was getting the licensing." - Wendy Dio[16] The Classic Rock article also indicates the project leadership and participants were well aware that the funds raised from similar events such as Band_Aid_(band) were squandered due to governmental corruption as well as suffering from general disorganization which led to things such as "food rotting on docks" - Paul Shortino (vocalist for Rough Cutt). The funds raised through the Hear 'n Aid project were instead used to purchase and ship agricultural machinery.
Wow took me back to my younger days. Fun to watch. You guys rock!
One of the greatest metal tracks of all time. From all accounts, the entire recording went completely smooth and everyone got along perfectly for a great cause. And most certainly one of the greatest metal solos of all time. I love at the end as the track fades out you can hear halford and Tate trading verses
Yay me! First in. This is a Legend loaded song that was done for famine relief in Africa. The guitar section is completely off the chain. It's really a shame that it got damned near ZERO main stream publicity. Just a passing mention. I think I still have my cassette tucked away somewhere.
Malmsteen slays everyone here. On top of his game!
Yep!!
Geoff Tate slays everyone is vocal parts.
They're stars. 🌟⭐🌟⭐🌟⛧⛦⛥⛤

Q*bert Thanks, it brings back good memories, I don’t know how I forgot this.
I'm 34 years old but when I hear this first time I get goosebumps this is awesome
You should watch the making of video of this in your free time, lots of background stuff from the recording sessions.
You mentioned Dokken how about a reaction to # Dokken # Alone Again and Freddy Kruger in # Dream Warriors
Chris Clark They should also react to the following Dokken songs:

Yngwie only did it because they promised him doughnuts.
It Was the Metal Version of "We Are The World"
The first two guys were Vivian Campbell and Jimmy Bain (who wrote the song and were members of the band Dio at the time).
This was when bands Guitarists and Singers actually had Talent the peak of Jammin! We are Class of 1984 generation.
There's an extended version also available.🤘✌💣
Been binging the shit out of your channel today! I would recommed some songs but it looks like im late to the party. And to Kel, my nanna is from Quebec and taught me music when i was 2. She played the organ.. Much love and respect from Louisiana🤘
Kel and rich watching now this is timeless
So much to say about this video.
It was Dio's baby, he got together with Rob Halford and a few others to initiate this project. KISS and Jimi Hendrix contributed music to the album, but (obviously for Jimi) weren't in the studio to record with everyone else. KISS was on their Animalize tour and contributed a live, unreleased version of 'Heaven's On Fire' to this record.
The only other similar song of metsl musicians together is a band called Kickaxe; they covered Joe Cocker/Beatles 'With A Little Help From My Friends' but it's not as wide known as this one.
Enjoy!
DM
Classic!! Groups are still covering this song, to this day.🤘🤘
Greatest guitar solo ever....
YES. Awesome reaction. Two of the understated voices in this video where Dave Meniketti from Y&T and Paul Shortino from Rough Cutt. Both are great singers But Dave Meniketti is also the lead guitarist for Y&T. Please react to Y&T Forever live. It's face-melting music.
I completely agree with you about Dave , Y & T itself is underrated. Yes please listen to #Y&t Forver
It's my birthday in 1 week and it's what I want to request
I've been waiting for you to find this.
The best singers, bassists, guitarists and drummers from the best decade of music. The incredible 80's.
It was for the famine in Africa. The US pop fraternity had We are The World. The UK, Europe came up with Do They know it's Christmas Time and the rock monsters came up with Hear N Aid.
NEW SONG ALERT!!! ALTER BRIDGE dropped their new single today off their upcoming album Walk the Sky, the song is called Wouldnt You Rather, its awesome!!!!
The lead singer from Y&T was in that video you should check out some of their stuff like Mean Streak or summertime girls pretty good songs sorry I'm blowing up your feed here you guys are pretty awesome
Not to be missed, "Swedish Metal Aid", a similar project spearheaded by Joey Tempest from Europe and the rest of the Swedish Metal alumni, very eighties and a whole lot of hair :)
Dio, Maiden, Priest, the gods of metal. This was organized by Dio and money raised was given to starving children in Africa. I still have the 12 inch vinyl.
Rob Halford hitting those insane high harmonies LOL I remember when this came out. It was a one-off for African famine relief. It was originally organized by Dio guitarist Vivian Campbell and Dio sort of took the thing over LOL. My buddies and I used to make a game out of trying to guess the guitarists in the solo section just by sound and tone.
#BlackSabbath Lonely is The Word - one of the greatest guitar solos in history
Oh, hell yeah!!!
Love you guys hope your well
Oh gosh, Spinal Tap singer there! Wow! And Dave and Adrian from Iron Maiden, yes! :-) Oh and the other one from Spinal Tap! Always happy to see familiar faces :-)
Yeah Baby!!!
Man I so remember this, still have it on video cassette lol This was Ronnie James Dio baby
First! Love this one! All Star throwback! 🤟🔥🤟
Hear'n Aid was famine relief. Ronnie did another charity song called "Throw Away Children" for a group which rescued children from sex trafficking - but I think it was vetoed as too dark - he recorded it with Dio on the Killing the Dragon album.
Another charity/aid project done by metal musicians was the Smoke on the Water for Armenia after an earthquake hit in 1988 - which featured members of Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath and Queen amongst others, and then later on Ian Gillan (Deep Purple/Gillan/Black Sabbath) joined with Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath), Nicko McBrain (Iron Maiden), Jon Lord (Deep Purple), and Jason Newsted (Metallica) to do another project for Armenia called WhoCares. From this they released a single called "Out Of My Mind/Holy Water"), and then Ian and Tony put a compilation album together called WhoCares to raise money to build a new music school for students they met in Armenia years after the earthquake.
i love this song......paul shortino tone is incredible
hey guys...maybe turn kel on to the world of Billy Squire so many hits from so many albums.? anyway, have a fab week!
Not many people know about this .......you guys are really into heavy music no doubt...cheers
Nice Rich. Real as always!
Hear 'n aid was for the Ethiopian famine. You could buy the 7 inch single, 12 inch ep, video and full album featuring unique tracks and rare recordings. The is also the album rock aid Armenia in aid of the 1988 earthquake. There is a recording of smoke on the water with deep purple along with Pink Floyd, queen, rush, iron maiden Brian Adams and Keith Emerson
Rich, you are correct about the project. All the proceeds from sales goes to famine relief in Africa. This project came after other project, Live Aid.
don't know why I ever missed out on this one... BUT The Title Hear N Aid did remind me to turn up the volume on mine (been wearing hearing aids for a number of years now.. LoL)
I would love folks to check out Waylander as a means for future reaction... Peace out folks.
Ich habe es gehört, als ich schlafen ging. Hab ich was von schlafen gesagt.....

Awesome.

This project was born because of Vivian Campbell The then guitarist of DIO now with Def Leopard he felt left out of the Stars project so he created this project DIO wrote the song.
Rich your right, its for famine relief in Ethiopia. Also it's a play on words hearing aid because it's metal and loud but also hear and aid, hear this and send aid.
Yeeea baby!! You heard Rob Halford over everyone else?!😃
hi, guys. i notice that you like getting into the early days of heavy rock. well, not many people have heard of a band from my home of Wales, called Budgie, but metallica and several other of the most famous metal bands cite them as major influences. they cut their first album in '71. they were ahead of their time and i heard them live in 1970 when they played at my school christmas dance. they were very heavy and great musicians. their song Napoleon Bona Parts 1&2 is my favourite of theirs, but any of their stuff is great. i'm sure you'd like them
What an epic song and those guitar solos where amazing. Have a great day.
ALRIGHT, GUYS.
You two really gotta check out this cool song caller "Closer" by a band called #Clockwork. Just search Clockwork - Closer and it's the one with a B&W clock gear on the thumbnail. They have 4 vocalists that harmonize pretty well at times throughout the song.

This one rocks! The video for it is good too. I used to have this on cassette. Love the shirts btw... 😉
Rough Cutt is all over this because Dio’s wife managed them. I personally really love their first self titled album ‘85. Maybe not great production, but... They covered “Take another lil piece o my heart now baby”, had some fun songs, some metalers, and great moody pieces like this live in Japan “Dreamin Again”. Warts n all, they never went huge, but I think he’s got one of the best hard rock voices, Paul Shortino, sang with Quiet Riot too, check it...
