I played this game on an emulator but it was bugged, every time I got to 0:07 in Piston Hondo’s intro the game would crash on a frame of him punching at the camera, made me feel like he was punching directly at me for using an emulator.

For anyone wondering, the riddle at the start of the theme is a part of an iconic and famous folk japanese song called "Sakura". You probably have heard this song in other things as it is very stereotypical of the japanese culture.

I have PTSD from the Punch out Ft Mr Dream fight. (not literally). I beat it eventually, and he wasn’t the one that took me the longest, that Goes to sandman. (It will end up going to Mr. Dream once I finally beat him.
Piston is one of two fighters who I fight with absolute respect and dignity. He fights with honor, and I respect him for that by fighting him without being cheap. I always make sure to bow when he bows to show my respect. Because Hondo is that worthy of a fair fight. (The other fighter I respect immensely is Mr. Sandman.)
I think that one of Little Mac KO Punch Voice lines is a reference to him. Mac will shout "DOORIYAAH" which Piston Hondo will make the same sound in his title defense cutscene
As the other guy said, it's pretty generic. For other examples there's Ganondorf in Smash Ultimate and my favourite example, Sonic Adventure 2, where the english translators left it in by accident because of how rushed the localisation of that game was.
