Just a word of advice for who ever installed the panel, strip the outer jacket of your wires longer. Having to troubleshoot a system with tiny wires like that is no fun at all. Also leave a bit of slack inside the panel, the next tech to come behind will appreciate. And the 120V in the same conduit as the low voltage is a no no. Not code and it will not pass inspection.
unfortunately yes you are correct the 120 should be separated from the zones and nacs however we are trying the best to not mess with the original wiring too much theres not much slack due to scrappers getting in and cutting the wiring right next to the conduit so had not much to work with
@@ArgaTheRexouium I would have done a junction box or trough (if too many wires) above the panel. 120v can be in it's own accessible jb close by. And then pipe or armored cable inside the wall, to the panel.
Nice choice with the MS-10UD. Extremely user friendly and simple system. I will warn you your AHJ might give you some shit for having the panels 120VAC in the same conduit as the 24VDC fire alarm circuits. It could cause interference and is against code.
@ oh, didn’t know arga got certified, also note you’ll more than likely be required to upgrade the entire system to new devices and a new, not used panel, and probably get the sprinklers up and going too. I know my state is insanely strict about that
Hey XeroZenith, I was a fire alarm technician back in 2023, You should install a fire alarm booster power supply to hold up all of the notification appliances. I’d recommend the Fire Lite FCPS-24FS8.
Not bad hey, My school has a whole bunch of EST Booster panels in each buildings. They’re all located in custodian rooms. They have an EST3 system with horn strobes and voice evacuation. Anyways I’m not sure why they have too many booster panels. They have over 10 alarms in each building. That’s probably 2.1 or 3A not sure tho.
So weird to hear 2400Hz, like residential smoke alarms in a large commercial building! I do wonder though, is it a mix of Commander 2s and Commander 3s? Or are the high-pitch ones just Commander 3s set to 2400Hz temporal?
I'm glad you finally got it working are there any original space age alarms that still work or have all those been retrofitted? Also at 0:46 I spotted what looks like a Sanitaire SC679J which was really interesting because those vacuums are intended for carpet only so I was wondering of that was already in the ward when you bought it and what do you use it for since I haven't seen any carpeted areas.
Nice choise with the ms 10ud, but theres one thing: You absolutely need to try adressable. And it doesent even have to be all new stiff, used off of ebay will do it to. The panel is 0,5-1k, and the devices will run ya about 3 to 5k. But this systems good for now. Good stuff, keep it going
No they absolutely don't need to try addressable. Building was fitted with a conventional system, they wanted to get the original system going, so they put in a conventional panel.
we decided to stick with conventional as we were donated a conventional panel and budget is tight if we had unlimited funds i would put something like a nfs 640 in
Would've been better with an addressable panel... Because it gives you the exact device when it is activated with an address on it, instead of the zone number. Which has a bunch of conventional devices on that same zone. Although it would be alot expensive to do because of isolator modules, monitor modules, addressable pulls, and smokes.
That would be nice, But upgrading to an addressable system in a building this size would be extremely costly (Well over 50k), especially when considering the regulatory and legal complexities of installing a new system compared to maintaining a grandfathered setup. Would make more sense to use that capital for other parts of the property.
@@XeroZenith my former high school (the same one as LeBron James) still has the original Simplex fire alarm system from 1972; it still works great for being 50 years old. I have a video about it on my channel.
Nice system but you need to change those tones man. Sounds to much like a residential alarm. 2:26 sounds really good. You should do the full PA system next. Try to play music throughout the building and locate speakers.
Unfortunately the Gentex Commander 1's with the piezo tone cannot be changed the device at 2:26 is a Gentex Commander 2 set to electro mechanical tone.
I'm actually surprised at how well it seems to work, i was not expecting that it worked at all. Not sure how strict the requirements are to get a system to be compliant but wonder if this system can be kept and used once everything is fully tested.

i did not think yall where going to be able to salvage that system! wow!
