I work hospital security and patient or not this would make me very unhappy for the fact that a fire alarm almost in a way pauses and disrupts hospital operations because of a false alarm.

Here in Calgary there's a bylaw mandating that the fire department must be on site in order to reset the panel. Also, my friend lives in Iowa and apparently his school immediately silences the system upon activation, and security will investigate and activate it again if there's a fire.

I work privately armed/unarmed security and one of my contracts is with a large hotel that is seven floors (148 guest rooms including two private suites in total) where if the fire alarm should activate, I am charged with donning my turnout gear/SCBA (this equipment I'd bought myself), placing the elevators into PHASE 2 and with guest list and fire extinguisher in hand (in the event it's a small fire) I then take and hold the elevator two floors below the fire floor and begin sweeping the floors and checking rooms while the rest of the staff gathers/assembles guests in the lobby. Once I've reached the reported fire floor and have conducted my sweep, I would then relay to management via radio as to whether things are all clear and that they can reset the panel or that the alarm is indeed verified and then I would give the evacuation order and return to the lobby to wait for firemen to arrive and give my initial report.

In The Netherlands, every public building will send the elevators straight down to ground zero as soon as a hand-alarm is pushed or a smoke detector senses smoke and will than stay there with the doors open, rendering it useless as long as the alarm is not reset. Usually, the fire-department will call the company to verify what is going on while the crews are getting ready for turnout. As they've had a bit too much false alarms by now, this has become standard procedure (in the past, they would just turnout fully, to find out at scene it was a false alarm)

Then, there is somewhat of a "manual" way of operating the elevator, meaning that you can select a floor, but the doors will only close if you keep the close doors button pressed and if you release the button before the doors are fully closed, they will quickly open again. The same goes for when the elevator reaches the floor, it will stop and remain with the doors closed. You will have to hold door open button for the doors to open and if for some reason you let go before they fully open (like say if there is a fire right there), the doors will quickly close again. Needless to say that the elevators will not respond to any calls from outside while in fire mode.

I’ve stayed in a mental hospital before several times from 2018-2020, and I used to be scared of fire alarms going off falsely all the time at school and was even scared of fire drills. It’s not just illegal what you did, but it also disrupted the other patients and some of them in the psych ward are possibly sensitive to alarms going off. There’s literally people who are trying to recover in hospitals and the alarm is disruptive. Just like in school, pulling the alarm or setting it off in general disrupts class. I actually had to be in the psych ward due to behavioral issues I had in school and being suicidal due to being rejected and mistreated. Yes, what you did was really dumb. When I was in the psych ward and there was an alarm in the building, they’d announce Code Red on the PA system and the location of the alarm in the building. The pull stations in the psych ward were all key operated only for the one I was at. I’m better now than I was back then and learned a lot especially not to do dumb things like that which I’ve actually never done before nor ever will in the future or repeat any bad habits I did have ever again.
This is why I am scared of having to stay in the hospital overnight or hotels because someone might purposely pull the fire alarms and I can’t stand that sound especially the continuous buzz or code 3 alarm sounds beeping like this one sounds like an elevator I’m ok with this alarm. But not ok with someone pulling it purposely.

I am sound sensitive from migraines, recurrent ear infections, adhd, & cerebral palsy. Fire alarms going off drove me crazy as a kid, as did loud noises, which felt like electrical shocks to me eardrums. Ironically, I ended up working on ambulances as an adult, but luckily got ear plugs, adderall, immitrex, and intravenous immunoglobulin which addressed these.
I have family that works in mental hospitals and I’m not sure why phones are permitted for recording. Maybe the laws are looser in other places but even the younger folk would be hard pressed to make a YT vid without serious consequences.
If it would've been someone that didn't have mental illness conditions, the person would have been arrested and possible citations or charges. I've done odd things sometimes but I never pulled a fire alarm.

In some states, rendering a false alarm in a non-healthcare facility is a misdemeanor. However, rendering a false alarm in a healthcare facility, or a place where there are handicapped people, is a FELONY. YOU rendered a false alarm in a HEALTHCARE FACILITY, and that is a FELONY, and YOU should be either locked up in JAIL or even the hospital’s MENTAL HEALTH UNIT.
Yes, maintenance personnel are the ones who have access to the simplex switchboard. They are responsible for locating the detection device, silencing alarm and resetting the system. Then paperwork. Then resetting all the fire doors, one by one. A lot of the air handling units shut down and need to be reset. A lot happens behind the scenes when someone pulls the alarm, a lot of work, and if your by yourself it takes a while and your adrenaline is going because it could be a real fire!

He is probably not armed he probably has his own car usually with amber lights, not siren because he’s not a cop only public safety.

At the end of the video he also says “I’m at the hospital because I did some really bad things at home”, so I think he might’ve tried to hurt or maybe even kill himself. The way the doctors were talking to him also kinda told me that he’s in the room because there’s something wrong with him. I went through a similar process in High School (Though I didn’t pull the fire alarm) so I know exactly what’s going on here xD. The psych ward for hospitals don’t have mag locks, they just throw you in a room with a tv and bed and just keep a close eye on you. Mag locks are for mental asylums where crazy serial killers are kept.

Because while it's possible to silence the audible alarm without resetting the panel it's not possible to turn off the strobes (And also the horns outside that are wired to the nonsilenceable circuit) without resetting the panel. And I think the latter can only be done when it's absolutely sure there's no fire anywhere in the building but I could be wrong.

There is a simple fix. Convert the pulls to key operation only. It can be done by installing a plate over the pull switch.

What do you mean by that? Only authorized people who have access to the system should have the keys for the pull stations, panel, etc.

Yes, maintenance personnel are the ones who have access to the simplex switchboard. They are responsible for locating the detection device, silencing alarm and resetting the system. Then paperwork. Then resetting all the fire doors, one by one. A lot of the air handling units shut down and need to be reset. A lot happens behind the scenes when someone pulls the alarm, a lot of work, and if your by yourself it takes a while and your adrenaline is going because it could be a real fire!
The guy in the black clothes it was public safety you know how I can tell. It’s because it’s soled on his jacket he may or may not be armed because he’s public safety means his safety for the public. He is probably not armed he probably has his own car usually with amber lights, not siren because he’s not a cop only public safety.

He knew he was gonna get caught my guy. This is the psychiatric ward of a hospital and he has a room with his name on it. People who go here normally have serious mental illness and sometimes have even attempted to kill someone, so him doing something stupid like this is not a surprise at all. The staff shouldn’t have even let him leave his room.

@@firealarmdiscovery Yeah, the psych ward is in the ER. I know because I’ve been containing in this area before. At the end of the video he also says “I’m at the hospital because I did some really bad things at home”, so I think he might’ve tried to hurt or maybe even kill himself. The way the doctors were talking to him also kinda told me that he’s in the room because there’s something wrong with him. I went through a similar process in High School (Though I didn’t pull the fire alarm) so I know exactly what’s going on here xD. The psych ward for hospitals don’t have mag locks, they just throw you in a room with a tv and bed and just keep a close eye on you. Mag locks are for mental asylums where crazy serial killers are kept.

Because while it's possible to silence the audible alarm without resetting the panel it's not possible to turn off the strobes (And also the horns outside that are wired to the nonsilenceable circuit) without resetting the panel.
And I think the latter can only be done when it's absolutely sure there's no fire anywhere in the building but I could be wrong.

Well he learned his lesson saying that you shouldn't pull fire alarms when there's no fire as he realized it was illegal to do because the fire department had to respond to a fake fire emergency, the police showed up because the staff knew it was a crime but they told them he has disabilities and he's a minor, and that the strobe lights were bothering him so he doesn't want to pull fire alarms for fun otherwise the same things will and the potential consequences will happen to him again
