Cobra Kai also has the guy who played Falafel Phil, I mostly remember him in the first season as an employee at Daniel's car dealership, I think they say he's his cousin or something.
The "cheap trick" they used was originally from the "karate kid" movie. They opposite team felt like they were gonna lose to someone who was taught personal defense in like two months, so the master decided that the next person had to pull an illegal move. This was supposed to help their team win automatically if the protagonist didn’t go forward with the fight. This was just if anyone wanted to know.
LOL I literally just watched that part of the video and started laughing cuz that was straight out of karate kid and I couldn’t tell if it was supposed to be satirical or not bc most 9 year olds in 2009 were probably not up on karate kid lore

Kickin’ It was one of those shows that I always skipped but when I sat down to actually watch it (albeit when nothing else was on) me & my mom enjoyed it quite a bit. I won’t lie they started losing me towards the end though. It’s as if they were afraid people would start getting bored so they added so many new things in that tanked the show for me.
AGREED. I never watched it while I was airing because I was like "nah it ain't for me" but then I watched it years later and was like wait this is actually enjoyable
They did the same thing to So weird (an old disney show that premiered in 1999.) The show off started of great then it tanked in season 3. I will never forgive them for destroying that show.
I will admit that this show was weird as heck. My favorite episode is when they identify a dude in a lineup and then have to go into protective custody on a farm. So, yeah, it was weird. But I have seen the entire thing like four times and the fact that Leo actually is a black belt in multiple martial arts just gave it that little breath of reality for me. And I think Olivia could do most of the karate stuff herself too with her gymnastics background.
This show made me want to start doing karate, and for a while I did, but my like 9 year old self gave up too quickly. Wish I continued doing it though. I LOVED this show and to this day still go back and watch it from time to time. Gives me nostalgia of a time when I was happy lmao
you must be younger, because, in my town, the movie that prompted us all to take on karate, was Karate Kid... which is kinda referenced in this show too... at least with rival dojo thingy and the dirty trick to win the fight.... and if I think about it, the reboot, Kobra Kai is kinda similar to Kickin' it.... huh.
I had no idea Disney XD was marketed towards tween boys. As a little girl back then, I ate it up. I loved Lab Rats and Mighty Med. I still really do. And I remember watching Kickin' It as a kid. My step-dad practically raised me, so the stuff he liked kind of rubbed off on me. When I was a kid I much preferred action and adventure over romance. No reason. I still kind of feel that way. I just find it more interesting.
its not that disney was strictly for girls and disney XD was strictly for boys (ik u didnt say that btw). disney unintentionally had most shows targeted towards girls hence the disney XD channel. i remember seeing promos for it not understanding wtf was being advertised. then when it came i was sad to see toon disney go. but its all good. times change. i think its nice that disney execs decided to cater to guys just as much as they did girls
I effin adored Kickin’ it as a kid. With the mindset I have as a young adult, yeah it’s undeniably cheesy at times, and Jack, Kim, and Rudy stole the show for me (not to boycott Jerry, Milton, or Eddie - they were funny at times). Nonetheless, it was awesome seeing the fights and choreography among the characters, and I’ll be frank, some of the dialogue was pretty hilarious (I like finding the proper opportunities to say Jack’s catchphrase: “You probably shouldn’t have done that.”) It will always be a favorite Disney sitcom of mine. And you are LEAGUES correct Alex - 11:23 - they grew up gracefully, and I got so jealous of that as a kid.
That "He died in a tragic gender reveal accident" hit closer to reality than i was prepared for, LOL! On another note, this show seems a lot better than i am willing to admit...
This was one of my favorite shows! Looking back it wasn’t that funny but Leo Howard is a genuinely good actor who did all his own stunts and the relationship between Jack and Kim felt real.
I think it's possible that Jason Earles has probably forgotten about this show. 🤔 Then again he's keeping everything low key, which is working with him.
The cast just did a little get together a few months ago, they even brought out some old scripts and read them. they posted a little bit of it on Instagram
I related to this show so hard as a child, coincidentally Kickin’ It came out the same year I rejoined my karate dojo. I was 9 so I was a bit younger than the main characters but the show was EVERYTHING to me. My town also had two karate studios and yeah. It pretty much went the same way of each other saying one was better than the other. But these characters friendships reminded me of my own friendships at my dojo, Sensei Rudy reminding me of my own silly fun senseis, and I know it’s a joke but you’d be surprised at the walls we broke at our studio. One time a kid went straight from one dojo into the other! It was crazy! But he was okay thankfully. By the time the show ended I still hadn’t got my black belt, but 2017 I tested and passed my shodan exam, and it’s one of the best memories I have. One of my senseis, specifically the Sensei who reminded me of Rudy left our dojo to focus on his family, and it upset me so much. He seems to be doing so great right now though, so I’m happy for him. I know to most people this is just a silly show about karate but to me it’s like I was watching a show about my life, and god I miss it. I don’t do karate anymore since Covid, but I still remember it as the thing that got me through middle and high school. And performing on stage is a feeling I can never forget.
I loved the show, however, somewhere in the middle of it, or, maybe a bit later, it seems as if the creators forgot what they started with, or were hoping that we have forgotten, because I remember that there were episodes, where they made it seem as Jack was the last one to join the group, and af if Kim was part of the dojo as long as the others had and was never a black dragon.
trueeeee and the way they kicked out eddie & brushed it off as 'he joined dance' he choose ing even tho he begged his Grandma or whatever to let him stay in karate like 3 times /:( mafe me think som1 new was directing.
I ONLY had DisneyXD for a few years and the vibes were a lot different. However they still played Suite Life on Deck and Zack and Cody so there was at least some remnant of regular Disney
I freaking loved this show as a kid, would watch it every chance I got. However, the fact that you didn't talk about Jack and Milton becoming SPIES has me confused XD
You should totally cover mighty med or whatever it was called with the superhero hospital mentioned. I only watched a few episodes but it was so campy and full of marvel references. Honestly, it did the boys before the boys.

The first two are possible but Cuphead is animated and I believe in his older vids Alex said he didn't like doing animated shows and only on rare occasions (like Miraculous since it blew up)
Are you aware that a good portion of the actors from this show ended up on a RUclips sitcom called 'Welcome to Howler'? It might be worth you checking out. The guys who played Rudy and Jack as well as some of the secondary characters later in the show all make appearances.
Season 4 isn't so memorable, but it never was bad. It was a good way to end the show. Jerry and Milton become black belts, Jack becomes a sensei, Kim returns, Rudy doesn't go to China and chooses to stay behind with the dojo to teach a legacy of new warriors. The show overall was a wonderful one. The characters were funny, even the villains. I think the characters that made me laugh the most were Rudy, Bobby Wasabi, Jerry, Joan and Falafel Phil. I can't look at falafel the same way again. The top two for me were Rudy and Jerry. Rudy was goofy but he was never afraid to stand up for himself, his friends and put his foot down when need be. And Jerry was like how many of us guys tend to try and be: a ladies' man, macho and overall cool guy. But he was never afraid to show his soft side, especially when he was nervous about losing in front of his family until Rudy came and said "They don't care if you win. They love you." And I think he had a broader character development. He went from being all that he was, to a champion. Not to say the others didn't have character development. They were all great. I recently streamed this show once again and it makes me laugh still.
I love the skill development in this show, I love how in the begining, only Jack and Kim can hold their own against the antagonists but as the show goes on Jerry, Milton and Eddie all get better as well!
This show is my childhood I loved every single episode and I still watch it from time to time AMAZING. The show thought me so much about life and that you can really do anything, I always hoped that Jack and Kim would get together and the first time they kissed I got goose bumps. I actually love the show so much the theme song of the intro is my ring tone song and every time I hear it I am taken back to the amazing show. Wasabi.
I always find with a lot of these shows either secondary charterers or background charterers that show up frequently get the funniest box shit imaginable
I watched this show religiously as a kid, now I'm rewatching. Despite its weird slightly problematic premise, I do think it's one of Disney Channel's funniest shows and the comedy/acting holds up decently well as an adult. Also every time a fight sequence starts in a movie or show I always yell "kickin' it with you!" and my boyfriend looks at me weird.

i personally think this was one of the better shows disney made. it had a good consistent story line, had emotional depth, and was funny. it may not be for everyone but it will forever have a special place in my heart and a spot on my favorites list.
I agree. This is personally my favorite comfort show to watch. It's just good. Solid writing, solid jokes and even if there was a slight dip in quality in the later seasons it was still fun to watch
Me and my siblings rewatched this like five times we loved it so much
This show went to some crazy places. Jack was a spy for a few episodes, jerry went to space with a cat, those are all I can remember off the top of my head but it was wild.
I remeber watching the ep where jerry got superpowers with my family
it was jack and milton who were spies actually! :]
And it was in the later seasons so you know they must have started running out of ideas when the normal slice of life stuff stopped working.
8:59 Imagine your instructor making a "your mom" joke, except he's being entirely serious about going out with your mom.
I still remember I had the biggest crush on Leo Howard because of this show damn 💀 he was just too awesome to not like him
sameee, he still is one of my celebrity crushes
Honestly same lol I was so young when this show started that I didn’t even know what a crush felt like
Me too
Was in love for sooooo long 😂
Same! He was so cute when he started and as seasons went on he just kept getting hotter and hotter
I thought it was so weird how they never even acknowledge Eddie’s existence when he left after season 2
Yeah that was so odd.
Why did Eddie leave the show?
@@TimToonsTalks from what I remember he had stuff going in his personal life and Kickin It got in the way of it
I think they mention him like once
Totally forgot he just disappeared haha that’s crazy! They didn’t even try too write him off
All the jokes that you showed were definitely typical Disney Channel faire (how is catching an apple funny?) but goddamn did “yeah that’s right! I’m seeing her!” make me literally laugh out loud for a good while. Absolutely choice joke that Disney should have done more of
Soooo many young girls like me preferred Disney XD over the other stuff. I loved kickin it and I lived and breathed lab rats. Watched it continuously for years after it ended
kickin it is on top 🔝
Same. I also loved Pair of Kings and Suite Life on Deck.
@@ClowderinPower I LOVED PAIR OF KINGS. I would fill our dvr with it just so i could rewatch any episode i wanted whenever there wasn't anything else i liked on. I hated when they replaced Brady (Mitchel Musso) with Luther from Zeke and Luther. Of course later I found out the behind the scenes reasons for the recasting, but my kid brain just wanted to two original brothers to stick together. Also the new King would always be Luther in my head which didn't help
This is personally my favorite Disney show ever. Jason Earles is fantastic as Rudy, and the cast of kids are so freaking likeable when you see them succeed you actually get so happy. And the 70s cop parody episode is one of the greatest things Disney has ever done.
Great show
ahh Joan 😂😂
“Why didn’t we learn his name, now I’m gonna miss him” has been ingrained in my head since I was 6😂😂

Please cover "I Didn't Do it", another Disney Channel show with Olivia Holt. It was about a group of pals who got into wacky shenagians, with them explaining how they got into trouble, though this was dropped halfway through the show.
I Didn't Do It was basically Disneys version of Friends as a kid it was awesome watching it.
yeah.
@@FTChomp9980 To me it felt more like Whitney and for whatever reason it reminds me of Mystery Incorporated!
@PlamiAG Reminds of Friends because well all them were friends since childhood, met a Smoothie Shop(Instead of a Coffee shop),and siblings basically Brother and Sister.
It makes sense why the dropped it, the gimmick got old after ten episodes.
Man even if looking back on the shows now and seeing that they’re obviously not peak television they’re such a huge part of my childhood that the nostalgia alone just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside
I love how Jacks actor actually knows karate! It was so fun watching those behind the scenes videos
I think Leo Howard also does Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and other forms of mma
Honestly I wish the actor who played Jack and Kim were in Cobra Kai! They’re great at karate and awesome actors!
this was basically cobra kai before cobra kai happened even has the guy who plays anoosh
I really liked seeing Olivia in Cloack & Dagger, not the same thing but close enough I guess
Cobra Kai also has the guy who played Falafel Phil, I mostly remember him in the first season as an employee at Daniel's car dealership, I think they say he's his cousin or something.
Cobra Kai already has a former Disney Channel girl.
@@NJGuy1973 two former disney girls* lol
Back when Disney had unique shows that were different in every way
This one was one of the favorite
Yes they did. When they had some soul and not just some monetary write off
The "cheap trick" they used was originally from the "karate kid" movie.
@@mckenzielangendorf1437 Right but the sensei in Karate Kid at least waited until the fight started to pull that. The one here looked more like straight up assault.

Just letting you know Alex, this show means a lot to a bunch of us. Like this show is goated.

Thats Disney for you: They go in strong and disappoint in the end 🙄
Edit: *cough* StarWars *cough*
Precisely, a lot of these kid oriented shows start off promising, then lose steam towards the end.
Yea ngl that’s fax cause how did Jack and Milton randomly become secret agents for the government 💀💀

Those three shows literally made my childhood- Lab Rats, Kickin It, and Mighty Med raised me. And I'm a girl-
Perfect down to every last minutent
sameee
Same I took ti quawn doe for a little bit then stopped, I used to practice with my dad it was fun
I always wanted to know someone who started in martial arts, but stop and ask if they can still do it?
Used to do karate to, it was fun but got expensive and overtime it was awkward since I had no friends there ofc
I killed a man when I left my oven on when I was five
you must be younger, because, in my town, the movie that prompted us all to take on karate, was Karate Kid... which is kinda referenced in this show too... at least with rival dojo thingy and the dirty trick to win the fight.... and if I think about it, the reboot, Kobra Kai is kinda similar to Kickin' it.... huh.
I remember when Olivia Holt left to do her own show on Disney Channel and I was so upset and didn't watch Kickin It for awhile
What show?
@@GoldenWingsYTI didn’t do it
I had no idea Disney XD was marketed towards tween boys.

I think 2 or 3 was best, afterwards, they went on a weird spy plot, among other things
I loved this show mainly for Leo Howard (cuz that guy is a martial arts talent) but eventually I grew to love all the characters.
i've loved this show for forever and its just so so good in my opinion. ive rewatched it probably about like 9 times by now
For real bro same

This show was my childhood!!! I loved it so much. Sure it was cheesy at times, but the friendships and romances were healthy and sweet.
Kickn’t was my show growing up. Such a goated show lmao
This was one of my favorite shows! Looking back it wasn’t that funny but Leo Howard is a genuinely good actor who did all his own stunts and the relationship between Jack and Kim felt real.
I think it's possible that Jason Earles has probably forgotten about this show. 🤔
Then again he's keeping everything low key, which is working with him.
He hasn't! Leo Howard was actually at his wedding back in 2017. The actors have also been talking about how they would love to do a reboot.
Jason was 100 times older than I thought he was 😂😂
The cast just did a little get together a few months ago, they even brought out some old scripts and read them. they posted a little bit of it on Instagram
10:09 that joke gives 100% 🫠🫠vibes🤣🤣🤣🤣
I loved the show, however, somewhere in the middle of it, or, maybe a bit later, it seems as if the creators forgot what they started with, or were hoping that we have forgotten, because I remember that there were episodes, where they made it seem as Jack was the last one to join the group, and af if Kim was part of the dojo as long as the others had and was never a black dragon.
Literally, that bothers me 😂😂
trueeeee and the way they kicked out eddie & brushed it off as 'he joined dance' he choose ing even tho he begged his Grandma or whatever to let him stay in karate like 3 times /:( mafe me think som1 new was directing.
I ONLY had DisneyXD for a few years and the vibes were a lot different. However they still played Suite Life on Deck and Zack and Cody so there was at least some remnant of regular Disney

If you look closely you can see that Jack doesn’t even kick the dude. His foot never made contact with the bully’s chest 💀
Nah he should cover Aaron Stone no remembers that show Mighty Med literally had a three hour analysis
I’m still mad they canceled Aaron Stone on a massive cliffhanger. I bet it had a higher budget than all the other XD shows.
@@EnchantKnit The cancellation was so stupid it's because they wanted to focus on comedy based shows why couldn't they have had both comedy and drama most kids are way more into drama than comedy anyway
@@m56214 it was only one 3 hour video, and i’ve still never seen that show discussed anywhere else, i’d say it’s not exactly done to death yet on RUclips

Kickin It is basically a Disney precursor to Cobra Kai, and as someone who grew up watching the show on Disney XD then growing up to later watch Cobra Kai, it’s really bizarre how the time line of these shows line up.
Love how Mateo (Jerry) is brothers with Moises (Rico) on Hannah Montana, and Jason Earles was on BOTH Disney Channel and DisneyXD
Also, I'll never forgive them for never having some sort of explanation about Eddie. Sure, I get the actor was busy/couldn't do it anymore... but at least have an explanation in the show!

Jack brewer aka Leo Howard started doing martial arts after kickin' it and became a 3x World champion.
This was easily my favorite Disney show. I always loved martial arts and seeing something that positively depicted it in a time where it was not cool to be a martial artist in school.
As a true Disney XD kid this was my life, “And no matter how much I chop and punch its not as cool as kickin' it with you!!”
Knowing Disney XD was supposed to be catered to tween boys is wild! Because i totally leaned towards Disney XD more than the regular Disney Channel
I want a Divergent, bunk'd, or cuphead show review eventually. Alex makes the best videos
Coop and Cami ask the World too. Because god I want an excuse to rant about the main character of that...
The first two are possible but Cuphead is animated and I believe in his older vids Alex said he didn't like doing animated shows and only on rare occasions (like Miraculous since it blew up)
i’d absolutely die if he did a video on divergent
It kinda gave me Karate Kid vibes
This show is my childhood I loved every single episode and I still watch it from time to time AMAZING. The show thought me so much about life and that you can really do anything, I always hoped that Jack and Kim would get together and the first time they kissed I got goose bumps. I actually love the show so much the theme song of the intro is my ring tone song and every time I hear it I am taken back to the amazing show. Wasabi.
I always find with a lot of these shows either secondary charterers or background charterers that show up frequently get the funniest box shit imaginable
3:42 well damn Alex that was actually a really good Critikal impression
Kickin It was a fire show. And lowkey it was a Jerry story because he went from a white belt to a black belt through the show
I watched this show religiously as a kid, now I'm rewatching. Despite its weird slightly problematic premise, I do think it's one of Disney Channel's funniest shows and the comedy/acting holds up decently well as an adult. Also every time a fight sequence starts in a movie or show I always yell "kickin' it with you!" and my boyfriend looks at me weird.
Disney does live action martial arts very well with this, and Wendy Wu they killed it!
This show was definitely my favorite show as a kid
As someone who did Shotokan karate for years, this show is extremely confusing and cringy yet somehow still enjoyable.
The wall wasn't made out of paper but drywall that was pre weakened for him to go thru, however it has very very obvious marker drawing where the breakout part was!!! Lol! They didn't want the kids to mess up and almost kill himself like Chris Farley did on the set of Beverly Hills Ninja
