Sometimes all people really need is someone to have the faith in them that they lack in themselves.
Not only is the Flash a badge with a day job, but he is perpetually late for everything, especially in the earlier seasons. Even if it wasn't on purpose at first, He probably keeps it up now to help hide his identity.
The creators already said him being late for Everything was on purpose supposed to make people not think he could be the flash But it just made people question what Barry was up to being late all the time with weak excuses
