    I bought one of these sets from DCP about a month ago (Destroyer - Silver sparkle fading to black sparkle) which has delivered on all that was hoped for. I have several top end kits and this Evolved kit from Sakae has just blown me away. Tunes easily, records amazingly, on a broadcast each week and sounds amazing and is in a live room each week and man let me tell you, it is killer in the room. These are so focused with a killer punch. If you decide to venture over to DCP and get one of these sets you will not be disappointed.

    I actually had the experience of visiting the Sakae Rhythm Factory in Osaka, Japan back in the early 2000’s. I had the honour of meeting the legendary Takashi "Hagi" Hagiwara. We toured the all the various Yamaha Manufacturing Facilities but as a drummer the Osaka Factory was the greatest moment. I had the honour of meeting Ms. Akiko Nakata and her son Enzo while touring the facility and had the greatest opportunity of building my own snare drum. It is one of my greatest treasures! I had the opportunity to work with, and drink with (that was a party) the amazing people at this facility. I am truly saddened of it’s end. Hagi was passionate about fighting to keep Yamaha’s “top-end” Drum manufacturing in Japan, it makes me both melancholy and grateful of the loss and opportunity.

    I just purchased one of the 20” kick sets in piano black after watching this video. I am extremely pleased with these drums. They sound awesome. The quality is top notch. They look very sleek especially under spot lights. Thanks to the crew at DCNH for the great deal and very quick shipping. All the best to DCNH!

    Finally someone developed a tom mount on the bottom lugs that actually looks good and conspicuous. Now if they could only redesign their badges they’d be almost unbeatable.

      Man for real. The first thing I noticed about these drums "HEY LOOK AT OUR UGLY BADGES STRAIGHT OUT OF THE 2000's!!!!!! " Not only are the badges ugly but there's no reason to have them be so huge.

    • @mdrumt

      Agreed, the logo is so cool wish they would've leaned into that design, the lugs on a lesser note are also a little underwhelming for me.

    I bought one of these a week ago, sight unseen based on the recommendation of James, one of the pros at DCP. It fits right in the middle of the other two primarily sets I have. By the way he pitches a perfect game for recommendations. After hearing this video it only confirms this was the right thing to do. Great price for a pro level kit. Looking forward to many years jamming with it. Those mounts are killer by the way.

    absolute killer deal, great drums for 40% or something less money. I was totally fascinated by Sakae when i heart the story of their relation to Yamaha (and their split) when Ash Soan endorsed them for short time before he changed to Gretsch. At this time, around 2012-14, they had a bubinga set offering, the Celestial series, which was the best sounding drum set that I heart so far, and you guys made a video about it 9 years ago. But when I decided to get one they were sold out unfortunately.

    So I bought a set of Sakae Almighty Maple drums. Natural finish. San Francisco shop. 10,12,14,16 Toms. 22 Bass. I later got ahold of Sakae and they made me an 8 Tom. Then I bought a 14 steel Sakae Snare. Then a few year's later DCP had a 20 Bass orphan. I jumped at it! Turned it into a Bass/Tom using Pearl Bass drum legs to flip it sideways. It's on my left. Best kit I've ever owned. I've had most. The Bass is powerful. Love it!

    That bass drum is killer. Actually the entire kit is. However the overtones on the snare (for me) were just overwhelming. I wish you had toned down that ring a bit.
    Not being able to buy add ons or alternate sizes is a deal breaker for me. But you're right. The drums are a steal at $2k.
    So for those who don't need add ons and aren't as persnickety (that's right persnickety, you want to make something of it?😖) as I am when it comes to snare drum overtones, snarf that kit up it's a great deal.

    So Kord bought Sakai, but tried to have them made in Taiwan (which I prefer Taiwan made drums over Chinese made drums. Actually, anything made in Taiwan over anything made in China) didn't work out so now Sakai is out of business? That kinda sucks. And now Yamaha is even having their high end now drums made in China? That kinda sucks too. That's why I'm a bit of of a fan of Mapex because they are made in Taiwan. But that's me.

    As an owner of the original Power Recording Customs, this is as uninspiring as it is heart-breaking. A lot of "A" level endorsers felt the same way, when they jumped ship after Yamaha made the decision to move 90% of their manufacturing over to China. " Designed by ex-Yamaha builders, made in China", just doesn't have the same "Made In Japan by Japanese craftsman" ring to it, does it? When you saw the brand "Yamaha" that's what you thought of. I did pickup a set of used Yamaha Hybrid maples (at a price I could NOT pass up....made in China, or not), that is probably the best maple kit I've ever owned. But, knowing it was made in China has me looking at this kit in a way that's just not as endearing as I look at my Recording Customs. No such thing as a bad sounding Yamaha instrument (drums or otherwise)....and had it not been for Sakae, I'm not sure their drum brand would be as successful as it is today. But, at this point, as much respect as I have for Sakae, knowing their legendary history with Yamaha...from a consumer standpoint, it's now a competition for best sounding Chinese made kit, regardless of brand. That doesn't bode well for a kit in this price range (Yamaha history or not). If it was a $1200 kit I'd say it's a no-brainer....it sounds very good. It's a shame that 90% of the products we have today have lost the pride that put these companies on the map. Having another country make your products is one thing. Having a country make your products..........that hate you, is something else entirely. I'm glad that DCP did a good demo of this kit, it sounds very good.

    • @viktormuerte
      @viktormuerte Месяц назад +3

      Are you talking about Sakae being in the same boat as Yamaha because they eventually outsourced their drum manufacturing? If so, I don't think their cases are the same at all simply because Taiwan is different from China. I'm sure the Taiwanese don't hate the US.

    • @phillamoore157
      @phillamoore157 Месяц назад

      @@viktormuerte The info I last heard was that Sakae was being made in China. That may have changed. Apparently, Sakae has gone through a lot of changes since their departure from Yamaha. If so, you're100% right Taiwan is much different. So, I stand corrected there. Still not Japanese craftsmanship, though (for those concerned with that). I wish my Yamaha Hybrids had been made in Taiwan! Thank you for the correction.

    • @drumcenternh

    • @phillamoore157
      @phillamoore157 Месяц назад

      @@drumcenternh Yes…you did. And, since I’m coddling your emotions over a moot point….I never once said DCP did/said anything wrong (actually I complimented DCP on a good demo). I also clearly stated that I was wrong about the Chinese-made, assumption, when corrected by another viewer. And, while thanking that viewer for correcting me, I clearly stated that the correction was all but moot, because it’s still not a kit made in Japan, which at one point was the SOLE factor in buying a kit from a Japanese company. So it comes back to…. what is the selling point (see original comment that I was very clear about). *A company that used to make drums outstanding drums for Yamaha, that’s no longer making drums for Yamaha, that is now having their kits, made in Taiwan.* Under those circumstances $2K for a 4pc kit seems excessive, given what you can get in that price range for other “Asian-made” kits. So, I’ll try and end this on a positive note (as I did in my original comment) and say that the bottom line is that DCP did a good demo on a nice sounding kit, that will make a good instrument for those players that don’t mind where the kit was manufactured, or the price. There may be some die-hard Sakai fans out there who can’t wait to buy one of these kits. All the power to them (and DCP for that matter). Problem solved.
