As a life long 27 year old metal head lol, nothing makes me smile more than when someone says, "I wanna hear that scream again." YESSS you felt the emotion, it isn't just "noise" It's the purest form of it lol.
Howard Jones is definitely one of the best vocalists in metal! Sadly he is not in killswitch engage anymore, but he still is making music going strong in both of his bands Sion, and Light the torch. If you enjoyed his vocals enough to react to him again than i recommend Sion-the blade. I think you would like it.
He is still Killswitch Engage. He was in The Signal Fire and if you pay attention you will see they didn't say "Ft. Howard Jones. They just said Killswitch. Howard is much a part of Killswitch and their success. Also I really hate the Howard and Jesse vocalist debate people have.
@@RebelGaming4U yeah they’re completely different singers they aren’t even comparable. Jesse is a hardcore singer to the core and Howard is an absolute virtuoso so to speak there is no pitch and range he cannot reach and sustain cleanly.
@@RebelGaming4U They didn't put Ft. to surprise fans. Sadly he is only a part of the bands history now but still good friends with them. But how kick ass would it be to have both Howard and Jessie on stage similar to mushroomhead?
Who else is an old fart metalhead like me, who first heard this song (End of Heartache) at the end credits roll of the Resident Evil film and was like, "Who is THAT??" 😆🤘 I was hooked on KSE from that moment on. Howard Jones is amazing, and the whole band creates unique metal. And this tune remains my favorite, so metal and beautiful at the same time. That said, in Take This Oath that riff break at 15:08 (in this video) is utterly badass. Spot on analyses, Aaliyah. (And don't worry about the ads, they pay the bills 🤷♂)
Birth of metalcore - day of suffering, undying, prayer for cleansing, endthisday, bleeding through, cast from eden, it dies today (forever scorned), zao, falling cycle, blood has been shed (early Howard’s band before KsE).
Adam dutkiewicz is a very underrated vocalist. His clean or screaming duets are what make the killswitch songs that extra bit special. His side project times of grace have some really good songs like worlds apart, mend you, the burden of belief and where the spirit leads me.
Been a huge fan of KSE since I was an early teen , and all these years later I still jam to them. Hands down one of the best metal bands. Howard is a pure legend and such a humble guy.
This song is the title track of one of the first albums I bought when I returned to metal. That was the band line-up that recorded that studio release. And it was my favorite song on the album. I think you’re right, in that being able to do both high and low metal screams takes some extra ability and technique. For myself, the register of my voice allows me to pull off the lower screams better. But vocal versatility is a good thing, and I know that highs and lows both have their place in music.
Screams are done using something called a vocal fry. A lot of people mistakenly think you just scream into the mic from your throat, but if you did that, your voice would be burned after the first song. You'd never be able to execute a full set. You start by using what some call the "Elmer Fudd voice," where you try to cause artificial vocal vibrations at a very low pitch, then you gradually add force from your diaphragm, producing the scream. The volume comes from A LOT of practice. It certainly helps if you have a high lung capacity. Once you figure out the scream, you'll be surprised at how quiet it actually is. You add volume by adding more diaphragmatic force, which you can build with cardio and core strength. Its a delicate balance between sustained screams and high volume, so guys with Howard Jones' level of mastery are extremely impressive. It is NOT easy to develop the ability to do it at the professional level. Love the reaction!
Goin to see killswitch for the 8th time in September I can’t wait. Favorite band of all time for me. Been lucky enough to see Howard and Jessie at two of the shows
I've never been a fan of this band. BUT...this is the first time I was able to really listen to his voice and technique. He's really good. You spoke of his "richness" of his voice. That was a great description.

I am so happy youtube shared this video to me. :D I've been watching a lot of vocal coaches, classically trained opera singers, rap artists etc react to KSE's music and sound. You have definitely captured me, you totally get the "metal scream" as it being a very emotionally driven sound and not simply a scream. I have been going through your videos and voice is amazing! Have you listened to any Nightwish and/or Ne Obliviscaris? I would love to see your reactions and hear your thoughts on their tracks.

Glad you enjoyed KSE. HoJo has such a great voice for metal! I have only seen them with Jesse Leach, the original singer that left and returned.
