I'm not very social.
One of the reasons I watch this show is to learn how to be social and talk to people casually, which Lucas does better than anyone I've ever seen.
He said "I appreciate you talking to me", this is something that I could never have said. Although I would feel grateful for the conversation it would feel awkward to say such a thing.
I guess I need to be more honest with people without caring for the supposed "social implications from society" I put on myself
I agree with you wholeheartedly. Lucas is so smooth when he talks, while for myself it's always a conscious 'attempt' when striking conversation. I really wonder how he does it.
Z bc you dont think of yourself as one with everything. You think youre more uncomfortable than the other person. Which isnt the case, they just wear a better a mask. Stop caring what others think so much
He makes it clear that he cares about the other person and their time, making sure not to take up too much of it while simultaneously having a genuinely interesting and educational conversation.
When I see Lucas, I click like and watch. Simple as that.
yes.
yes
He is cooool as a cucumber.
CaneTooStrong lol this meme
The thing I've learnt most about this series is that food brings people together which is great
Shut up, Jim!
I love how the manager of this establishment addresses issues of earning power and living wages for persons in the neighbourhood. Kudos to the owners of LocoL and the girl at the front was just very sweet. Great job of highlighting gems like these Lucas! Dat Machaga and Cheese looks delicious.
It's machaca😂
Big Ups to Roy Choi & D Patterson for givin a shit about these communities
These are the kinds of stories they need to be putting on the news to bring people together for a healthier more positive way of living. Not all the killing lying and stealing that gets highlighted.
Amen to that bro
"healthier" - nah son ;) but I get what you mean
amen
Amen brother! I wish I could ask the question to some of them of why people said that a restaurant wouldn't work? I know it a poverty stricken area but what were the specifics?
This was definitely on the news for weeks before and after the opening of the restaurant
Lucas you deserve your own show mate, keep it up
I took away a lot from this episode, but the main thing is that all of that food was just $22.89. It would almost be worth it for me to fly in from NYC just for breakfast and lunch and then fly back.
Matthew Hogan lmfao
And you would still save money. All joking aside
I dont mean to be so off topic but does someone know a way to get back into an instagram account??
I was stupid lost the account password. I would appreciate any assistance you can give me!
@Sebastian Zechariah instablaster :)
@Nasir Emmanuel thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im in the hacking process now.
I see it takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
Major props to Roy, Daniel, and the crew at LocoL. And of course Eater/Lucas for publishing this. If I could have given this two-thumbs-up, I would have.
Thanks for watching!
Holy crap, can we get a place like that in...every town/city ever? Just that six dollar chili bowl ALONE beats any fast food deal ever.
22.89 for all that? omg nice!
Six dollars for that VAT of chili, I think the portion size is a bit LOCO for the chili but otherwise, great value for the money
Yeah! I was like wow that's awesome.
Have always watched Dining on a Dime quietly and everyone is always saying how awesome Lucas is. Polyglot, articulate, friendly, etc etc.. Of course that's great. But on this episode... dang, Lucas wore a Modest Mouse sweater. Only now that I think yeah you're really awesome, Lucas. Much love from Indonesia.
Lucas Peterson can you top a white guy?
One of the best Dining on a Dime episodes. Good story and good length (with Lucas, longer is better). The editing was also good in that everything could breath, there wasn't this frantic sense that comes with rapid cuts.
Senpai Lucas looking loco with the cap
Senpai Lucas 😂😂😂
wow, the managers telling the truth. Fantastic initiative.
Thanks for adding item price.
Kudos to chefs Choi and Patterson for making this restaurant concept a reality in food desert areas, but the food offerings don't seem all that healthy to me. Other than the small bowl of greens, the menu seems lacking in fruits and veggies...unless Mr. Lucas didn't order these choices.
We did not order everything on the menu. And despite some things being cooked with oil, healthy food should be judged as a whole. Compared to major fast food chains that use additives, saturated fats, and other unhealthy ingredients, the offerings here are much healthier. A cheeseburger isn't inherently unhealthy, it just depends on what you put into it. For instance, the burger at Locol is steamed on the grill.
Terry the manager needs his own show on youtubes... Lucas visiting a Roy Choi establishment?!?! Dream team up. Great job Lucas. Kudos to Choi & Patterson for creating a concept for the restaurant.
...that Modest Mouse shirt! Seriously, you cannot dislike Lucas.
Hands down the BEST food series on RUclips. Lucas is the best host I've ever seen
It's difficult not to like this guy Lucas Peterson. Enjoying his vids!
so happy to see Lucas segments getting more and more views, totally deserve it
This manager is preaching! lol dude! Where for the food!
Imagine if there were one of these everywhere. it annoys me that fast food franchises target low income areas- and although yes it does provide affordable food- it does more to endear the cycle of heart disease, and poor nutrition and everything that comes from poor nutrition , including poor work/school performance from poor nutrition, that is endemic in lower income areas. I'm not blaming it all on food- but food has its part.
low income people dont want to eat crap- and work in crappy jobs. but its all thats around sometimes for miles. my friend lives next to a mcdonalds where across the road is another mcdonalds. u dont get that in beverly hills.
what it takes- and makes me happy - is business owners and entrepreneurs willing to take a smart risk- and give these areas a good quality service- and in turn- the area becomes rehabilitated in a way - without being necessarily gentrified. i think this is so great. u can see the pride the people there have in having a store like that there.
Everything about this video is terrific.
Roy Choi and Daniel Patterson get to go to heaven for doing this for the community. And Lucas, he's an angel already!!!
OMG I was watching West World today and I saw you Lucas!! This is sooo awesome. Love your show and your acting!
Terry makes a good point. Places like this become part of the community vs a fast food place that is in the community but not really part of it. Places like this can become focal points of neighborhoods and that's always a good thing.
The prices are absolutely fantastic. They don't skimp on the portions too.
Thanks for another great video, Lucas! I'm such a big fan of Locol; they're doing really good work in South Central LA. The messy greens is my favorite dish there; it's so pleasantly vinegary. You missed out on their soft serve ice cream and iced coffee though. Next time!
We had the coffee while the crew was setting up! Thanks for watching!
+Eater whaaaaaat you didn't review the coffee! that's a major sin!
now go release a DoaD episode this Friday or something.
That aside, creating an F&B establishment with express purpose of "lifting up" the neighborhood... Kudos to both chefs! And of course to Lucas and DoaD team for bringing this to the public!
The manager literally said literally so many times...literally. Great restaurant, great concept. Love it!
I want to let y'all know, it's pretty damn awesome that you aren't scared to go out here and show love to the hood, AllFlavorNoGrease was the same thing, you're showing love to businesses and people, where everyone else is scared to go. Respect
Great to see backing this helped. If they do another I will back them again.
good to see big names investing and giving back to locol communities - nice work LP!
Damn that guy's speech really got me
that modest mouse shirt though!
Amazing restaurant idea and another amazing performance by Lucas
Definitely my favourite episode!
Lucas we need more people like you
FlamingCookie ty bb 😘
Lucas Peterson No problem bby
I am a simple man, I see Lucas Peterson, I click on Lucas Peterson. Lucas is love, Lucas is life
Lucas!!! I was watching college humor (mythbuster skit) and I just realised you were in it!!!!!
thank you lucas and eater for this showww legit makes me so hungry all the time...
NICE SHIRT!!!!! NOICE!
This is the first time i've seen Lucas give a food a 'hell yeah!' straight after eating it! Great as always. :)
Quality food at a reasonable price and fair wages for the employees. Sounds like a winning combination. It takes business owners that care about the community as well as keeping their business sustainable.
great concept and well said. everybody anywhere just wants a choice. they deserve a choice.
The manager should run for public office. Seems like he really cares about his community and the people in it!
Thx Lucas! Thanks for doing this particular episode, which is close enough to my request for vegetarian episode (i.e. Relatively healthy)
BTW, Lucas, you look so young with this cap and outfit! Can I see some ID, please?!
Made my mouth water up I'm going to check this place out.
Roy Choi is the real deal. Love his food
Oh mai that Modest Mouse shirt! Nice to see you have awesome taste in food and music
this dudes orddr was only 22...
a great concept! love this initiative!
Really great price for a delicious looking menu and friendly service. If I'm ever in L.A., I definitely want to check this place out.
good idea you interview the manager Lucas! another great episode with a slice of life lesson
That modest mouse shirt though. Just when u thought Lucas could not get any cooler.
Such an awsome concept , Great video
It looks great, but I would have liked to see some of their healthy options
Great episode as usual!
The manager was so thoughtful
Excellent Lucas
I was looking forward to a Roy Choi pop in but oh well, excellent video nonetheless. 👍
+Lucas Peterson This should be a series on Vice channel. What do we need to do to make that happen?
that gravy looks great! Tuesday evenings have never been so anticipated (I'm in Kenya)
That song. From 'The Chi'
Season one, episode five.
The block party, when Ronnie Davis confesses to killing Coogie....today was a good day.
Fantastic idea
Kim
Salutes! love this idea from Roy and D Patt
Communication, Understanding, Service :)
What was was green leafy stuff in the small white cup? I saw the green juice, you didn't specify the leafy green thingy.
the first time i saw Lucas was when he hosted the fried chicken Oprah's like, i didn't like seeing him there, because he was like reluctant on doing the show. but then i watched more episodes of his, i think he's awesome 😊
anyway, kind of wondering where does he originaly come from? i thought he is Chinese or Japanese ... sorry if i sounded rude 😊
Nice cap, and the food looks modernly delicious.
Oooh been curious about the food at Locol! It's awesome how much attention they're getting.
I eat at church's chicken in south central LA. I also saw a lot of Louisana Fried Chicken. I wonder why are there so many fried chicken places in South Central.
Looks good, wish we had a place like that in my hick town.
I hope this guy shares with the crew otherwise that's just torture
We eat very well on Lucas' shoots, thanks for watching!
Oh hell yeah. On every food show where the guys order a ton of stuff and are seen trying one bite of each? The crew gets the rest.
Next time I go to LA, I'm definitely going to check this place out😊
this is my kinda restaurant! ;-) all the menu affordable and looks delicious *drooling
that food looked fucking amazing.
hi Lucas, love your show, watched every one! i was interested to see what your editorial policy is about a food item that doesn't taste that great... or do you pre-screen for items that you would recommend to your audience?
rocking that Vienna Beef hat like a a true senpai!
Roi Choi is a pioner!
What was the bowl of green stuff on Lucas's tray? Salad?
They were "Messy Greens", a hearty side of mustard greens for $1
Lucas has a very good fashion sense!
Hey Lucas, I know this ep is a year old but it's one of my favs. Can you tell me the name of the song playing @1:00? Shazam can't find it!!!
Doesn't seem healthy, but it's probably the healthiest alternative in the neighborhood
I think the idea behind it is to have whole foods rather than highly processed and chemical drenched items that create health problems. Compare homemade bread to highly processed sliced white bread, that idea.
We need one of these in the Hill District in Pittsburgh.
im wondering where the healthy part of the food is
love ur video! keep it coming
We need this in Santa Maria CA!
You rock Lucas
We need more Caitlyns in other fast food shops for real bless her cute soul
Confused now. White sox hat, but one video you had on a Ryne Sandberg shirt!?
+Lucas Peterson grew up watching Sandberg, Grace and Dawson ;) Great videos man, you need your own show!
Amazing idea
Wow high quality food at an affordable price. I need one of those near me.
Did you throw away the that food ... Or did you finished everything
Hope this place does attract customers from the immediate area and not just tourists and WeHo hipsters who heard about it on RUclips. Food looks good.
IKnowYouKnow I live 2 blocks away from there
Lucas I want that sweater!
Liking the Modest Mouse shirt Lucas!
dope sweater Lucas.
This place would be perfect and to go to after a smoke sesh. Cheap and dank haha
This is great.
