Give Jerry Cantrell any guitar plugged into any amplifier and he sounds just like himself. Amazing.
Ever heard AIC Unplugged? Give Jerry Cantrell any guitar period and he'll do something incredible in return.
Yeah.. Satchels rig changed moods as soon as Jerry plugged in. Amazing..
Maybe he sounds like himself because he’s playing a song his band wrote
I say that every time I hear him play live
Absolute legend.
Jerry Cantrell is too fucking cool for this world. It takes some unworldly levels of cool to be able to walk on a stage with Steel Panther and out-cool them like that.
Anybody can out-cool steel panther
Sunshine Right? They're a parody band right? They HAVE to be a joke.
Hahahhaha best comment!!
@@cho6140 Steel panther is a legit band, with legit musicians
Holy shit, is it just me or were those drums just incredible?
Sam Weaver honestly the members of this band are so underrated and sticks is a great drummer
Yep, they sound great, and Stix is pretty damn solid.
Great drummer , the guitarist that handed Jerry his guitar is pretty smooth himself.
Yep man
Dude stix is an underrated drummer man. people don’t realize how amazing he is.
man in the box means something totally different to Steel Panther lol
Shocking !
iamdb1990 lol
iamdb1990 - ...............????😜
I just got that 😂
Gee I don't know what that might be, lmao!
It shows you just how amazing Layne was when you see other really good singers struggle with parts Layne made look easy.
I mean...Sully IS a bass/baritone vocalist.
Probably because they have completely different voice types lol comparing a tenor to a baritone isn’t fair. It’s actually impressive that he can hit those notes at all as a baritone.
he did a really good job i thought
He cut it. Didn’t blow me away, but he got it done respectably.
You're fuckin right!
He said "good luck" before the the first chorus lololol
avaris1280 to cover Layne Staley and at least try to hit 20% need a real luck..
More than understandable. Only Layne didn't need luck to sing that ahahah
And he didn’t do too bad! Not bad at all
I caught that too. It is such a hard chorus to sing and Sully banged it!
Hahahahaha he did good though.. RIP Layne.
Sully is one of the very few (and I mean very few) vocalist that can sing Alice songs. He was a huge Layne Staley fan and you can hear it. Love this
Check out the bands "Skorned" n "Chout". That kid nails it, He's awesome!!! 😎
Aaron Lewis is another
Yup, check out the name of his band ;-)
His band name is Godsmack for gods sake! :)
@@davidallen1973 skorned reminds me that reincarnation is possible
Sully nailed it!
Wicked drums!!
Oh shit he does! Sully is the fukkin man! He could've taken a part-time job in AIC :O
They were. Sully actually used to sound very much like Layne in the first Godsmack album
Sebastian yes. I know. I meant the style. Layne's sound is inimitable. I've been trying for years myself and I obviously can't sound like him. It's great that Layne has inspired many singers is all :). In them his voice lives on.
Sebastian it was very different for me. I started through the nu metal era listening to Linkin Park and Korn. Transitioned to heavy metal and then thrash. Fell in love with the thrash sound. Started listening to some metalcore. Fell in love with Killswitch engage. Gradually started listening to some rock. On a 25 hour train journey I listened to the MTV Unplugged performance of Alice in chains on loop. Never felt anything like that with any other band. The sheer raw emotion that these guys can express in their music is amazing. Layne and Jerry immediately became a major influence on my music.
I agree with you. Nobody can sound like Layne. Which is why he was special. There are and have been better singers but no one sounds better to my ears :)
3 vocalist of different types of genres. Nu Metal, Glam, and Grunge. I love them all.
You got that right, even though Godsmack was influenced by AIC big time they are both are different styles of metal.
Jerry.... Being cool as always...
That snare is punching me through my chest!
Hey if Grunge can co-exist with 80's metal then surely there's hope for the Palestine-Israel conflict??
Didn't Alice in Chains start out as a Metal band ... the plot thickens ...
I believe AIC has roots in glam metal.
MetalMan they did. They wore makeup and had long poofy hair. Lol
and steel panther aren't real 80's metalers in all reality. they play that type of music and that is their lore but in reality they formed in like the early-mid 2000's
Haha i know right
Legendary hat throw and catch at 4:05
lol
In Sully's mind, this is an audition lol
exactly what I was thinking.
Jerry's like: I know you even named your band after us but its a no from me.
LMAO!!!!!!!!!
How do you like Rainier fog?
He was meant for this moment LOL
Sully is one of the coolest guys in the music industry you could hope to meet. I was out with some friends at a bar when he walked in with a couple others. Nobody noticed him as he isn't the most recognizable front man but I didn't want to hound him even though I was freaking out. I bought him a beer and said I was a fan but wasn't going to bother him while he was just out letting off some steam. He ended up buying a round for me and my buddies and afterwards, he came over to take some pics with us. Super cool and really humble rock star!
Layne Staley. A missed voice in rock and roll since 2002. A voice unrivaled and unparalleled that others try to emulate but yield to homage knowing this voice was unique among the universe.
His voice was incredible. A real treasure. However, the poor man was suffering his entire life. I wouldn't want him around now if he was still on drugs, or if he was still unable to find happiness. If he were to live, I'd want him happy and doing better.
Jerry nails the solo on this every single time!! Michael Starr hits the high notes ever so effortlessly. That dude got some pipes.
Where is Mike Starr in this? I didn't even know he was there. He sang? 😲
@@kat3871 micharl starr is the vocalist from steel panther.
Mike Starr is dead.
That’s Sully from Godsmack singing
@@paulberdy5455 michael sang the second chorus
Sully and Jerry... brought talent to the stage this night
if you think the guys in steel panther arent talented in their own right youre nuts
Not counting Steel Fucking Panther
That drummer started rocking harder while Sully was singing to him. You gotta earn that spot my guy!
This is crazy awesome! But proves a point in what jerry has once said that tone is in the hands. Not Jerrys gear but still sounds like jerry Cantrell tone.
Jesse Deleon people often say the biggest contribution to tone is from the fingers
Zakk still sounds like Zakk on a Hello Kitty guitar lol
@@iMatagora good point
Satchels effects box
I know right! As soon as Cantrell touched that guitar is was his! I was tripping. Haha.. in a good way. Loved it!
The drums sound so good!
Hell Yeah!~
Stix Itinya!
Lol
Stix Zadina rules!
Jerry:
" God how I miss Layne."
There really should be a Top Ten list somewhere on youtube of the great grunge singers who had complete asshole parents.
The fact that Steel Panther can dip into the 90's style makes me appreciate them more than I did before hearing this.
Little guys FTW!!!! Back in the Shire we always knew Sully would make us proud.
Jerry Cantrell is a national treasure
Stix Zadinia playin' the fuck out of those drums.
so many vocalists but no one could come near to layne staley, thats how powerhouse that one man was
3:17 we all just going to ignore what Jerry did hahahaha
I was confused at first I thought he gave him a pick but then it was a tiddy grab
😂
Lmao I think Jerry didnt want him hanging on him like he does to sully
I never noticed that🤣🤣🤣💀
I believe Godsmack started out as an AIC cover band so makes sense Sully nailing it
Godsmack is a chains tune.
I don't know that they even named the band after the Chains song in all seriousness. But they were big influences
It's a rumor...
@@netrioter dude Godsmack is an AIC song theres no doubt in my mind its true
No they did not sully released the first god smack in 1990 then it got reissued about 9 years later when it hit.my homeboy Chris had an original.had 1990 on it.it was a c.d.
Jerry hasn't lost anything. Still amazing!!!!
Nobody is cooler than Jerry Cantrell.
Steel Panther and Rammstein are by far one of the best live acts.
Always on point, always great humor. Even without their instrument. haha
I love how he shouts "Good luck!" to the singer before the chorus! Yep. He knows the song and the legend Layne Staley.
this is by far the best fucking cover ever for this song!!!
GRUNGE ISN'T DEAD totally agree and btw grunge will never die as long as we have bands such as aic still around cheers🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺👍👍
The bassist who plays Lexxi never looks happier than when he gets to play with other professional musicians outside of steel panther.
The one thing I've found is even though Sully has a completely register to Layne and has a lower range with only small overlap, he has a very distinctive voice yet is able to mimic and sound similar to Layne timbre wise without trying that hard. You can see the inspiration there but it's also crazy just how well he can match Layne's distinctive flourishes. Fucking brilliant cover imo, although idk if steel panther would be my first choice to be backing for these two guys 😂
GREAT TRIBUTE. RIP LAYNE. ALWAYS BE MISSED.
FUCKING LOVE ALICE IN CHAINS!!
I love how at about 90 seconds into the song, Jerry approves of Sully’s vocals. I will say Sully is one of the only singers that can do Layne any type of justice.. Corey Taylor does Alice songs justice too
I'll gladly be the first person to give this a thumbs up. I'm a big fan of both Godsmack and Steel Panther, so this was fuckin' awesome. Plus who doesn't love Alice In Chains?
*Who doesn't fucking love Alice In Chains!
Phillip Kilgore they totally nailed this cover and yes who doesn't like alice in chains not me they are freaking awesome and a massive influence on me as a guitarist BTW I absolutely love godsmack but I haven't heard much of steel panther but full respect to them for having the nuts to do this cover they did it very well
Phillip Kilgore he talks alittle too much between songs lol
I love Alice In Chains, though I’ll say I got to meet Mike McCready. At a famous venue in Washington called the Crocodile as well. I was playing with him on stage as well. Since my friend is friends with the guy. So he invited Mike to go to a show me and like 20 other people did, and I am soon turning 11. I also played on stage with him, had him sign my guitar, he gave me 3 picks, and played Alive with my friends and I. It was fun and I played Man in the Box in front of him and little did I know, that he filmed me playing the solo for Man in the box. And not only that, but he sent the video to Jerry Cantrell. And I still remember that (not trying to make fun of him when I say this) he was bragging about the fact he played this 700,000 times and 1 and messed up and all he said at the end of the song was “Fuck”. And all of us were laughing in the lounge and on stage. If you were there, you would have got to meet a legend. Not the legend, but a legend
There's so much going on here, but Sully's vocals.....wow!
Love Steele Panther, and I don't care what anyone says Sully Erna can fucking sing.
Ian Schulze - Sully's a beast!
Yeah Michael doesn't usually get outsung this badly.
he is actually better than the AIC vocalist now
He did very well, but he sounds like he's a full active below Layne. Layne's range is on another planet.
*octave..
Okay, Sully! Jesus can that man sing! I never heard him live but damn he's got a great voice
This is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.
Am I awake right now? Lexxi fucking nailing it! All of them are... 🤘🏻🥰
Jerry wasn’t feeling that crabs story
For real lol hes a grown ass man. That was like over 20 years ago
He's like lets just play the fucking song already
He's only been in 2 public relationships in his whole career. Never married. No kids. I don't think he's into the male masculinity thing, or cares.
@@Nga_Babaye yea good point. Plus, dude he's seen it all. Himalayan highs, Hellish lows, and everything in between. A story like that from a flipping cover band isn't even a blip on the radar. Business baby
😂😂😭😭😭 literally it bothered me so much
finally a guest who can hold their own againat satchel. Jerry Cantrell can absolutely shred a guitar.
Jerry Cantrell is so smooth, brilliant, laid back and humble. Fvck yeah!🎉
This sort of looks like Mother Love Bone playing AIC a bit haha
I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO THOUGH THIS LMFAO!
Does look a bit like Andy lol
Holy shit.....good call!!
spot on observation
Acts like Andy too ! Damn I miss that band well actually the whole Seattle scene. Rip Andy Layne Mike Kurt Chris
Holy fuck, Jerry out classes everyone, haha
Sully Erna is a hell of a singer. Awesome performance.
Probably the best moment of Sullys life...
As a fan of Alice in chains I feel deep envy of Sully for being able to sing his lounges out with man in the box besides Jerry Cantrell
Jerry has always been one of my favorite guitarists.
These guys always look like they are having fun.
Holy shit... Sullys vocals are AMAZING in this
I saw Steel Panther and I loved them. They really bring it.
I've seen Panther three times and every time the drums sound absolutely massive, so good!
I heard some "It aint like that" when Jerry started playing
Same here
I also did
It was just a standard E chord, I guess ahahah and yes, the song starts that way and I got the same vibe too ahahah
Me too ha ha.
0:36 So did I
Kinda ironic that they're covering a track by a music scene that DECIMATED Glam Rock. Trust me I love both, but it is funny.
Wow!! Sully meets his hero’s and Cantrell is like “who”? Lol. Sounded great and I truly wish I was at this show!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻
I love this performance for the simple fact that Sully was a huge AIC fan and Layne was a hero of his so it must have been fun to jam with Jerry on stage and sing Layne’s part!
Man this sounds unexpectedly good. The heaviness really comes through even in the live recording.
I love how Jerry casually hairsprays Lexxy 🤣
That's where most of these comments are WRONG, there's no ego on this stage! Its just a group of highly talented musicians jamming together infront of a fantastic crowd.
I love Godsmack and Alice In chains
Yep this is awesome.
They were an Alice in Chains cover band basically lol.
i like steel panther
This is awesome.Jerry and Sully are legends.
Sully can wail for sure but it just goes to show the power and emotion of Layne!
This was a very cool vid.
imagine if jerry and mike were at the same show and they both got up there , that wouldve been sick
I always loved Mike he brought such a grove the the orginal line up
Mike deserved better , but also kinda funny ralphs stage name being michael starr like sir thats taken already
AIC had sooooooo many amazing songs. Like heavy metal Beatles or Eagles.
About everything AIC was great. When dirt came out it didn’t leave my tape player for weeks.
This is by far, the best cover of this song I've ever listened!!!
Superb performance. Watched 3 times in a row
Damn Sully sounds good!
That's just standard Sully :P
Sully killed it!!! Jerry was awesome as always 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
This made me cry. RIP Layne.
Man, this was good , really good !
I can tell Jerry is loving that Charvel... Love charvel guitars me. Wish i could afford one xD.
Great audio, great song, love Sully's voice, Jerry still rules, I'm a Fanther, love everything here
this is by far the greatest live Performance of all time
Sully sounds very good when sings Man In The Box!
This makes one truly appreciate Layne Staley’s vocal ability
Jerry's the man!!
NOW I've seen everything! I love it! This is the meaning when people from musical styles get together and perform live! 80s Hair Metal and 90s Hard Rock.... isn't it beautiful? Sully and Jerry rock the Stage with Steel Panther! Also.. have you people noticed with what passion Styx plays the song? Marvellous!!!
What song by styx
@@nancireal It's incredible, given the fact that Sean Kinney is a beast on drums. A beast in his own right!
Jerry Cantrell is THE man! #legend
Sully did a great job. This song is not easy to sing full chest voice.
At first I wasn't sure about this,,,, But Jerry and Sully made it work. Good cover
Jerry getting memories of early Alice in chains days and before..
Very respectful version. Jerry is amazing.
Sully should've been the new lead singer of Alice in Chains. Change my fuckin mind...
Be careful with duvall fanboys they are gonna rip you off
That sounded frikken killer, Sully killed it \m/
I love AIC, I love Godsmack. I think Sully nailed this better than anyone else can and am always blown away by him, and yet the thing I am most drawn to....the drums. Can't stop watching him.
Sully got after it. What a legend.
Wouldn't it be amazing if Layne was still with us and he would have jumped onstage to sing with Steel Panther??? RIP Layne, RIP Mike Starr
“Man on a Box” would be more fitting. Poor Sully can’t reach the shelves
Travis Baker underrated comment😂😂😂😂
LMFAO
a celebration of amazing song and vocalist may he RIP forever young xx
Third Steel Panther vid I've watched in a row. If these guys come to town, I'll be there. Rock and roll is still alive...and FUN!
I think Layne would've loved this.
5:18 classic move is still there, deep in the groove, all power. Jerry is a legend
4:18 BAHAHA!! When Satchel runs up to Jerry to dance for him like that. Oh my God, I love Steel Panther. So damn funny.
When they gig, I can see them enjoying, having fun. No obligation, no pressure, just pure love for music.
sully is a phenomenal singer, and he looks like he puts so much effort into the high chorus notes where Staley looked so at ease with them, lost a real big talent there :(
@Sam Johnson and still does a pretty damn good job
