    I just watched this 6 years after it was done, but can I add that you only need to remove one caliper - bracket bolt in most cases. The caliper can be rotated clear of the bracket and then the other pin comes out still attached to the caliper. It's a good time to clean and lube them anyway.
    Can I also add that it's a good idea to check the nuts after a road test just in case they have settled in.
    Been a mechanic for 50+ years and done quite a few of these!!!

      Hi Carlos broke all5 studs on my Ford Ecape and was wondering was the wheel bearing the reason your studs broke.thanks for any Input

    • @carlosestrada298
      @carlosestrada298 4 года назад +1

      @@brianmoyer8510 no, not at all the wheel bearing had nothing to do with it. Almost every time that a stud breakes, it has to do with the excessive torque that the tire's shops apply to the log nuts. See normally a lug nut should be tighten somewhere between 80 ~140 lbs of torque depending on your vehicle's specifications, and one of those air ratchets that they use at their shops can produce up to 2 - 3 times that amount of torque so in time the studs or lug nuts just give up...

  • @bikemcg1361
    @bikemcg1361 6 лет назад +2

    I learned good info here that is better than similar videos from some of the much bigger RUclips mechanics. I especially like (i) turning the lug nut over to get the flat surface up against that washer; and (ii) using a hand ratchet to draw in the stud. Most videos show an impact wrench, which risks stretching the threads on the new stud (which is probably what caused the old stud to fail in the first place!). Replacing all the nuts is a good idea, too. Thanks.

    Very helpful video, I fixed ABS light and break light on my toyota prius 2013 by bleeding the break system and ended up breaking the one of the lug nut on front wheel and that's why I am here. It seems to be very easy. I first thought it might need some welding work and I had to take it to the welding shop. I hate to take my car to the mechanic.Most of them either cost too much or mess up other stuff . I fix almost everything myself, I might work on engine some day after my Prius gets to that stage.

The only little I would add is to check torque the lug nuts after a couple of days driving, had a couple that seemed to almost bed in after being replaced and were a bit down on torque. Nothing crazy or safety critical but about 20 lbs lower than they were torqued to. Keep up great work mate!

    • @kenbarnett8189
      @kenbarnett8189 6 лет назад

      Lug nuts don't normally go "bad" unless they have been abused or you have visible wear on the tapered seat. If they have never been cross threaded or beat on with a hammer or some other form of abuse, lug nuts don't actually go bad and they don't wear out unless of course you are pulling your wheels off every night and reinstalling them in the morning (so no one steals them?) But while your at it you ought to replace your motor mounts, transmission mounts and bolts, plus your tie rod ends are probably really bad if your lugs are so bad they need replaced, they get much more abuse and neglect than your lugs do.

    Great vid. I had a tire place over torque my jeep rims and I went to put brakes on and snapped two lug nuts off at the bevel where it seats into the rims. I was not happy. Joe do you use antiseize on the lug nuts? Thanks
