I've heard numerous opinions when is the appropriate time to get an anatomy? I'm new to the Hobby and have a 2 month old tank. I've done a lot of research regarding the fish, but what Peaks my interest is the Anemones. Some people say six months, some say a year. Why is that? If parameters we're stable for keeping an Anenome via dosing ect then why the need for a more mature tank? Does it come down to the biofilter being more plentiful? This was a really awesome video, can't wait till I'm at this stage
Hey glad you enjoyed the video 😊 an anemone is a delicate creature and doesnt do well with harsh parameter swings ect... when tanks are new and the benificial bacteria hasnt had a chance to fully establish they can potentially have ammonia, nitrite and nitrate spikes which are fatal for all marine life. So people recommend 6 months to a year as by that time your bio media will have plenty of benificial bacteria to deal with delicate creatures like an anemone. Personally I would say wait at least 6 months. After 6 months your bio media should be ready for the bio load of an anemone and the water chemistry will be on point. I got mine around the 6 month mark and ive never had problems. In fact my anemone has done so well it reproduced asexually and I had two before I rehomed one.
I wouldnt recommend anemones in tanks that have sps or ALOT of other corals. Because if the anemone decided to go for a walk it will damage maybe even kill everything in its path. Personally I dont think they are that hard to keep as long as you keep up with your water changes test your water and overall keep good parameters. Just remember the key to success in the reefing hobbie is patience and taking your time 😊

Hi. Newbie marine keeper here. This is really helpful. We have a BTA that moved about at first and then settled. At first it was absolutely glorious. The past few days it’s pulled right back into itself at times and looking really scruffy. It comes out a bit more now but nothing like it did in the beginning. The store didn’t tell us about feeding it directly. We’ll give that a go and see if that makes a difference. Thank you. 🙏
It might be responding to the water quality if your parameters aren’t consistent . I had one die because My tank wasn’t stable
Make sure your parameters are where they need to be. Also make sure your salinity is stable at 1.025/1.026 and then try feeding as anemones are an animal not coral and they are sensitive to swings and bad water quality. So chances are it is probably water issues over not being fed for a while 😊 hope that helps
Thank you. It spilt many months ago and then both withered and died. The parameters are much more stable just over a year in so we might try again with an anemone in the future. 😁

The Salty Life I did make a video on how I set them up but it went on a bit and I’m not so good at making videos and I thought any one that watches it might find it a bit boring so I didn’t upload it.
Your videos are so clear and I like the way you do the voice over but I’ve no idea how to do it.
I will do some update videos on how the culture progresses.
I use Reefphyto quite a lot, there pods are great but it does work out quite expensive when I keep ordering pods from them.
@@andy2798100 keep at it check out some video making softwares it makes it alot easier to put the footage you've recorded together. I have a mic and record using a voice recording software. It's all alot more work and time but it's worth it I think. Oo I will keep an eye out for an update video on your culture I like seeing and following other people's journeys 🙂
Hi! I’m aware that most (if not all) anemones can eat fish, so besides clownfish…what other fish can you have in a tank with them? Will those fish just naturally know and avoid the anemone? How does that work?
You can have most fish with anemones they soon realise they can't go near it when they accidently brush into it and it stings them. The only fish that are a big no no. Are fish like coral gobies, dragonets and other slow swimming fish that like to settle on things. Saying that I had a bi colour blenny and he never went near. But yeah avoid coral gobies and dragonets and research compatability of every fish you buy 😊

Do you dose any solutions or chemicals for your anemone?
Or it is only light and shrimp as a food?
The only things I dose in my tank when needed is alk and calcium as I have lps that use it. Other than that I dont dose anything. Not specifically for my nem anyway 😊 so just light /the right flow and food occasionally.

@@DoubleCFit yeah try he is very small so may need tiny pieces. If that doesnt work they putting him on rockwork let him find his foot and see if he does any better 🙂
Would you recomend a BTA for my first ever anemone? My tank is 10 months old currently have a few SPS doing well.
Personally I wouldnt recommend any anemone for a tank that has sps. Anemones move around even when they are happy. They can walk all over you sps and wipe out your corals. They also split to reproduce and before you know it you can have loads in there taking out everything.
BTAs are great anemones for your first anemone as they are one of the least aggressive.. But I wouldnt recommend for you.
If you have watched all my vids you will know my anemone split and I rehomed them. I now only have corals. As I didnt want my anemone(s) to keep walking about & risking my corals. If I ever do anemones again it will be in a anemone only tank 😊 hope that helped 😊

My salinity got.high while I was out of town from evaporating and I didn't realize it so for two weeks it was very high. Now my sea anemone seams to be dieing. Any advice I'm very upset
Hello, I just got my first bubble tip today. It’s been in the tank for a few hours now and after being retracted for a bit, it is now fully puffed out and accepted some food a bit ago. How long after you introduced your nem did it decide to move?
Hey 👋🏼 congrats on the new bubble tip! So when I had bubble tips I found it stayed put for about a month and then after that it started going for evening jogs around the rock 😄 once it started moving it didn't stop..it kept moving.. then It eventually started becoming a nuisance touching all my corals and when it started splitting and I had multiple anemones on the move.. I removed off of the rockwork and gave them to my LFS. 😊

Yeah they do. In my experience and fellow fish people I knows experience it tends to be designer clowns and any other clown other than the standard occelaris that will host. But people have got the standard ones to host. It just takes a little more time. Hoping mine do but havnt so far 🤣

Can be both! My anemones loved these and it thrived and reproduced in my old tank. Their colours were always popping and they were always fully extended. So when people say you can only feed raw that's incorrect.

would they go after fish for food?
Their tentacles are sticky so a fish could get caught if it's not careful but it's very rare.
I don't know why but when I saw the yellow fish at the end bobbing back and forth around it I couldn't help but think "Dory moveee!!" LOL

Dory is actually a “Blue Tang”

I just got a trio of nems. I feed them mysis shrimp as of now, man they eat so much
I was feeding mine silver sides. It spit it up after about 4 or 5 hours.
Probably too big for it to digest 🤔
i feed my anemone 2 shrimps and mind is about the same size now my ......cleaner shrimp!!!!! helps him and my corals some times if i feed to much

I have a question my anemone does not bubble up how to make it bubble
It will choose when it wants to bubble and when it doesn't. Usually lower flow enables it to bubble up more. You can't make an anemone behave a certain way. 😊

@@theslayerbtw6520 you cant make a bta bubble up. Sometimes they bubble sometimes they don't. Mine was sometimes bubbly and sometimes stretched. There is no explanation as to why bta's do this. I dont even think biologists know the awnser to that question.

I have a question, my anemone moved to hide behind a rock, is this normal? And 1 store said I should feed them prawns, 1 store told me I shouldnt feed them, or just feed them plankton, which one should i believe?
Anemones need small meaty foods. Small prawns are perfect like the ones I feed in this video. Nothing too big just nice small chunks. One little piece a week or every 2 weeks is fine. You don't want to over feed as the anemone could throw it back up.
Anemone move all the time. The fact it's moved to behind a rock just means that's where it wants to be for now. You cannot choose where an anemone stays. They choose their spot. 😊 hope that helps

i just feed reef roids or uncooked prawns. they grow like a wildfire.
use a turkey baster to feed them.
Or pippet,if a clown is hosting it,the fish feed them too

You can use either.
I didnt knowni could feed them cooked prawn to be honest.
