I was reading John 10 this morning and it struck me that this is very much what LLF is doing. They are seeking a way into the fold by circumventing Jesus.
@richardrickford3028 "The gate is wide, and the road is wide that leads to hell, and many people enter through that gate. But the gate is small, and the road is narrow, which leads to true life." Matthew 7 13
@richardrickford3028 ? This does not override the first quote. In context the many mansions, rooms should be read with the verse after In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And when I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also (John 14:2-3). This is very clear, as is other sayings. It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven Mathew Mark, not about wealth about the love of money. All come down to the devil, making the way wide, as the devil said in Milton's Paridise Lost. The mind is its own place, and in itself Can make a heav'n of hell, a hell of heav'n
I think we will have to agree to differ on this one. To me the quote about houses and mansions is implying that many people will eventually get to heaven from all sorts of backgrounds - not all of them people who would have considered themselves christian. It is a very beautiful saying and contradicts the earlier saying about the road to hell (or destruction) being wide. If the way to heaven is narrow and few go there why would there be so many mansions in Gods house? I also think many Christians are in flat denial about the camel through the eye of the needle saying. Wealth is an addiction and people crave more and more of it. If Christians don't need their wealth and are not clinging on to it then why do so many of them have snazzy cars and mobile phones with all sorts of rediculous and great big television screens (perhaps several) in their house. They could sell all this and give it away so that other people have enough to live on. They don't give it away because they like their rich lifestyle. They are not prepared to sacrifice it and that goes against Jesus in the bible. The idea that some christians have that they don't have to give away their wealth because it is not blocking them from God is a cunning argument. But it does not hold water. And this is not just a problem reserved for clearly bogus wealth gospel preachers like Kenneth Copland. I remember a song by a pop group called the divine comedy. "The cars in the church yard. Are shiny and German. Completely at odds with. The theme in the semon. I see this church. And all of its people. Squeezing themselves through. The eye of the needle" But I do not want to end on a sour note and I certainly do not think that because you disagree with me you are in any sense a bad human being. Far from it. I wish you really well and I hope your life is good and exciting and fruitful and you have many many good loving relationships.

It’s a sad reflection on their refusal to allow a 3rd province which would allow both sides of this “minor” difference of opinion to genuinely mutually flourish.
I am more than a bit worried by the proposition of these "informal family dinners" where bread is broken. This sounds like some weird kind of fake communion, with possibly a stain of lay presidency added in. Seems like throwing the baby out with the bathwater.
@@davidmorecroft5667 of course the original was presided over by Jesus Christ, THE high priest. Yes, we need to hold to the truths of scripture, but at their core are the Two Commandments which Jesus gave us - love God with all our hearts and love other people as much as we would want to be loved ourselves. Let's get our eternal prioities right as we learn how to minister to those who are different to us, but equally children of God. There will be mis-steps along the way - after all we are human, not the arbiters of God's mind - so there will be a need to continually rethink (i.e. repent) as we go. And we need to do the same as we minister to others with whom we don't see eye-to-eye, which ultimately is everyone.
Fighting for the truth of the gospel is a distraction. You should be fighting for the word and spirit of Jesus! The dusty old scripts written by men almost 2000 years ago have no place in our modern society but the values and fellowship of JC still hold true. What would he say?
Go and sin no more most probably. Followed by "come out of her my people". You speak of seeking the word and spirit of Jesus, but that is only possible through the Gospel of Christ, not some fluffy halo modernised & bastardised version in a rainbow gown.
A sad indictment in my view of a church that doesn’t understand what compromise means- so hung up on a minor issue, when the world has far more serious problems to deal with than two gay people wanting to express their love and commitment through marriage. No wonder that the vast majority of non church goers turn away.
I don't see how doing the revealed will of God could ever be considered a _minor issue_ about which we could _compromise_ . You can either have the free gift of eternal life in Christ Jesus *or* LLF, but you can't have both, and this is not up for negotiation or amendment by any bishop, minister or synod.
Jesus himself gives a picture of marriage that aligns with Genesis. He warns about sexual immorality and deliberately uses a generic term to encapsulate all the sexual sins listed in the OT which includes same sex acts. If we are going to ignore Christ, what are we doing here? Then in the NT Paul uses homosexuality as an analogy for idolatry, the most serious sin in the entire faith. SSM is just the tip of the theological iceberg, once you start treating the Bible as a bag of inspirational quotes and use it to justify things that clearly go against it, then it leads to denying the physical Resurrection, abandoning the Trinity, the divinity of Christ etc.
@@kenbeach5021 Goodness me- you seem to be suggesting that someone who is gay and in a totally committed, monogamous relationship and wants to demonstrate that love through marriage, is eternally dammed? Like all the other commentators here, you would do well to put down the stones, and see the people behind this.
