    Great video, let me add. If your PTO is difficult to slide off, add penetrating oil at the top of the pto then TIGHTEN the nut below, then loosen and retighten until you notice the pto moving. This will free up the seal and allow it to slide off.

    Thanks so much. After removing the bolt that connects to the drive shaft, I was thinking the next step was to remove a retention nut which your video shows me is actually part of the clutch. I'm trying to make things more difficult for myself lol!

      Hey, look at that. I was here 3 years ago. Same issue as then. Drive belt slipped off drive pulley, needing removal of the clutch. Last time I did it without removing the clutch, but it was a pain in the a__! 🤪
      Slipping the drive belt over the clutch's power connector _IS_ possible, but *NOT* recommended.

      With the ROP’s bar in the upright position, I stood on the right rear tire and held on to the top of the ROP’s bar. I then shifted my weight away from the mower and the mower rolled over on its side. How well this works will depend on your height and weight.

    Once the bolt is removed (0:24), I cannot remove the clutch from the drive shaft (0:49).
    After several applications of penetrating lubricate between the drive pully and clutch assembly over 12 hours, I've tried prying from the top down, as well as hitting the bottom of the clutch with a nylon mallet to break things loose.
    Any suggestions?
    ... And after reading the comments, I understand what I need is a pully puller, available to be lent out (deposit) at multiple nation wide auto parts stores.
    Thanks! 🙂

      @@The1952caallis I tried that too. But it isn't coming off without an impact wrench. I just bought one supposed to be delivered tomorrow. I've needed one since my pneumatic impact bit the dust. This is a cordless, 500 lb torque. Thank you for the info. I'll try that with the impact wrench and hopefully it'll work.

      There are probably 100 different Toro zero turn models. Try asking your mower shops if there's a mower junkyard in the area and see if they have a used one.
      Option two.
      Go to the Toro website and find the parts list for your exact model.
      Option three. If the price for the part is more than you want to pay, youll need to order the part and copy it and return it

    My question is this toro mower laying on its right side or ,, do you have it raised in the air and working on it on the under side with mower over the top of you. You didn’t say and from watching the video. It looks as it’s laying on it side

    • @The1952caallis
      @The1952caallis  Год назад

      I rolled the lawnmower over on its right side. I did that because the right side is easiest side to roll it over on, and I have no means to raise it up to work underneath it.

      About the same here. To find the best deals you must comb the net. I went with the Xtreme clutch to see how different it performed compared to the OEM clutch. After the first mowing my wife and I noticed a difference. The blade speed stayed the same in tall grass. So at this point in time I really recommend the Xtreme clutch.

    I’m thinking after reading a few of the guys asking the same question as I did about you laying the mower over on its right side to get to the clutch to pull it off is what I’m thinking that you drained the oil out of this mower a day or so before you made this video at least that’s what I would have done to make sure no oil was able to get in the head. Or upper part of motor.

    • @The1952caallis
      @The1952caallis  Год назад

      I didn’t drain the oil. This repair should only take about 5-10 mins. Have all of the necessary tools and parts ready. Roll up the mower over outside. Start working on it once completed flip it back over.

    Hi Dennis - I have a 2012 Toro Z500 Master - 62 Inch deck- When ever i engage the PTO - the blades will not rotate and the engine dies down. The engine it self runs steady. Is this clutch assembly replacement something that could fix that? OR is it the PTO switch?

    • @The1952caallis
      @The1952caallis  4 года назад +1

      If the engine "dies down" when the PTO switch is engage then the switch is working. Sounds like something is locked up. Take the belt off and turn each blade by hand. This will tell you if a spindle is locked up. If all the spindles spin freely then the clutch must be locked up and need of replacing.

    Can we start with how to turn the mower on the side.. and if it is even safe for the engine

    • @The1952caallis
      @The1952caallis  29 дней назад

      @@GWPdesignsLLC this is how I roll my mower over on its side. I remove the discharge chute, and had the ROPs bar in the upright position. I then stood on the right rear tire and rocked the more back-and-forth a few times while holding onto the very top of the ROPs bar. After a few times, rocking the mower back-and-forth It rotated over on its side.
      The main reason why I rolled the mower on its side, was to give a better view in access for filming. it would actually be better if you raise the back of the mower to give you just enough clearance to where you can see and get underneath to pull the clutch off. I replaced a clutch earlier this spring, and I put the rear of the mower up on jackstands.
      However you decide just be wise about it. Be safe and don’t put yourself in harms way.

      I’m not sure if this would be the correct way to pull the clutch ,,but after you have did everything that you have done in your own way to get it off before I used a pulley puller I would take a bottom touch and heat it up on the shaft To break it lose but at the same time remember there is a oil seal in the bottom of mower shaft so only apply a small amount of heat then use the puller.

    Hi, can you please tell me the reason why to replace the clutch? My mower seems like it looses almost all the power when I engaged the blades, could that be my issue? Thanks

    • @The1952caallis
      @The1952caallis  3 года назад

      I replaced it do to the wires being ripped off. I don’t believe that you have a clutch issue. I would remove the belt and spin each spindle and pulley to make sure you don’t have a bad bearing and very thing is turning freely. Also once the belt is off you can engage the clutch to see if the engine loses power.

    Extreme installation video says not to use thread locker. Dry clean bolt. Liquids will add torque by reducing friction. So 50 ft lbs becomes more.
    More pressure squeezing the bearing. Reducing the bearings life. They say that to there specs its 6000 lbs pressure on bearing already. With out the hidden increase from false torque reading.
    I never ever had an issue with a clutch bolt. Never had a clutch or drive pulley frozen on. All mowers outside. Anti seize in\on key bores and key way shafts. On all of my mowers. scag, exmark, toro, hustler. Also check anti rotation. Suppose to have orbital play and external circumference play. Up\Down. Not stupid crazy play. If clutch is installed frozen in place. Will shorten life. Besides turning it on and off at full throttle. Half throttle a must. Clutches are rated to be turned on and off ex amount of times. Like a deep cycle battery. Any new clutch needs to be burnished at low rpms in sequences (let it cool down between. No hurry). Will warp it. And that cant be undone. Some clutches have an adjustable air gap. Longer life because you can adjust it. Pre check gap before install one. Don't assume. Adjust if needed after install and break in. A good meter.

      Thank you for your comments.
      Toro states to use thread locker. I had to replace this clutch because the shop that worked on the engine failed to use thread locker during reassembly. The bolt worked out, the clutch dropped and spun ripping the wires out of the clutch. Use thread locker and save yourself issues down the road.

      @@The1952caallis I'm here researching this exact issue. Clutch failed under warranty last year, shop replaced it. 14 mo. later I start feeling some extra vibration. A pass or two later it rapidly got worse and engine started to sputter. Flipped off the switch immediately. Looked underneath, wire was unhooked. Hooked wire back in, started mower, ran fine. Started deck, clutch fell off. I need to get the metal detector out tomorrow and try to find it.
      What I don't know are what the chances of the clutch being OK are, or how I would tell. The plastic wire receptacle is cracked but it will still take the plug. There is some marred up external metal. Is there a way to tell if it is good other than putting it back on and seeing what happens? I've got a big Timecutter HD, I don't think I can flip that on the side. If DIY is possible at all, installation would be using a floor jack or possibly car ramps, so not a simple process. Thanks for the vid!
