This is precisely why FNC got soo far in champs. Teams were always auto banning their perma bans, and never banning haven, the map FNC never lost a single time.
It entirely screwed over G2 especially, cause they just didn’t have a counter to FNC.
Sentinels did it right though, immediately banning Haven, and consequently beating FNC.
FNC in this example also relied too heavily on having haven in their map pool. When it was taken away, they struggled immensely.
And PRX…good god, their map pool was egregious. Their only consistently good map was Sunset. They only relied on individual players popping off after stage 1. Such a bizarre switch up.
i agree about they relaying on 1 main map like 2023 Lotus and 2024 Haven
but they didn't solely relaying on that map particularly most maps are like super close (other than there Lotus 2024 cough) and have a additional good map on there arsenal for last map mostly Fracture 2023 & Bind 2024
if they loss a close Map (Non Haven First Pick) then in map 2 they got anti or chokes cough
@@sanjaikp24but valorant isn’t a two map game, if teams ban your best map and you’re second best is barely good enough, you’re losing most of your games if your team isn’t significantly better than the other through mechanics alone. That’s why the current PRX is in shambles and why every international LAN they just look like punching bags. Mechanically a good team but they’re just terrible everywhere else. No structure, no cohesion, no discipline. If G2 play PRX 10 times, G2 beat PRX 10 times 🤷♂️

M80 paid the price for having Bind as their permanent map ban. Having a perma-ban only works if you go straight to the grand final from the uppers.
I Love the oiled up strategy
The way that has been statistically proven to yield the best results:
1. Don't have a perma
2. make the two least played maps your best two maps
3. float the map that is closest to being "solved" if you have better players
this gives you the highest chance of having a significant advantage on your first map pick no matter the ban
you could just know that GEN G coach fucking WORKED his players🤣 t3 even said he used to scrim and grind till 3am and sleep a few hour and do it again in the start of the new team GEN G

This is the reason why GenG dominated Bo3s when Breeze was in the mappool. Their opponents always permabanned and often ended up with Breeze as the 3rd map. This basically guaranteed GenG win because that was their "1st choice/best map", despite not picking it. You can see that through the whole Masters Shanghai run and evident by all the 2-1 scores.

Another point you didn't talk about is : Having a permaban mean if you go in final from looser bracket : you will have to play your permaban.
M80 may have loose ascension because they had a permaban.

Id also argue optic had a 7map pool for 2022 and they were the best team of the year getting 1st 3rd nd 2nd. They banned breeze mostly till finals against Loud in rejk then after they won the map they started playing it and moved there ban around a bit

I used to play a Game like those mobile games where you have a team of diferent champs and they auto batlle
So theres this mode of Md3 where you use 3 diferents teams
So my strategie was, i start with my worse upgraded team first
Then my strongest team to get the 1:1 score
And then my second best team
I basically wins everytime 2x1 score coz everyone starts with his best team
In summary, just get good enough at all 7 maps in the current pool, and instead of making a better set of maps for yourselves in a veto, prioritise using your ban to make it worse for the opponents. It’s extra effort to learn a 7th map and be a jack of all trades, but the payoff is clearly worthwhile. GenG had the sauce

I actually thought it would be better if EDG could ban Haven instead of Ascent in the grand final. Even if they haven’t practiced much, we know that TH never plays on Ascent while for EDG at least four of their players know how to play on Ascent plus they have one day to prepare for it.

the problem with this strategy is that you not good on any map. You are just ok on a lot of maps. You need to have a strenght and a weakness. So if you run across a team that knows what they are doing you will lose. Yes, you have a large map pool but you are great at none of them. The goal of the game is not to have a large pool. You want to have a weakness, because every team does. You can't be good on alll maps at the same time.
