Chronicle of the Times Episode 47 | 1858
“Let at Last” is the sixth and last chapter from the story “A House To L.et”. This chapter as with four other chapters of the book, was a joint exercise between best friends Charles Dickens and Wilkie Collins.
The plot of the book revolves around an elderly spinster named Sophinisba. She is admired and chased by several men. Upon advice from her doctor, Sophinsiba leaves the home she knows in Tunbridge Wells, and takes a place in London.
She quickly becomes obsessed about the house across the street which has remained empty for many years.. The house is always “to let”. How did the house become ignored and disused? Why will no one take on the house?
This wonderful story draws the reader in as is usual by both talented writers.
    Narrated by Robin Coles
    Hosted by Robin Coles.
