  • Coal was of course a basic commodity in the 1950’s where my model train layout is set. The railroads played a huge role in the distribution of coal, but the last leg of the supply system consisted of trucks or even horse carriages and handcarts. Dutch manufacturer Artitec has a wonderfully realistic load of coal sacks, article number: 487.801.40. Actually, the full product title from Artitec is ‘Cargo "coal bags" DAF flatbed truck’, which of course indicates that the load is intended for another of the company’s products, namely an iconic Dutch produced lorry/truck from the 1950’s and 60’s. Unfortunately, I don’t have that model (yet), which left me with two options. Either I could make a bigger truck, or I could make the load smaller. As you can see in this video, I chose both. Please visit my blog www.sundborg.wordpress.com for more info and pictures of my project.
