Thanks Lou! Having loads of fun so far. More 996 videos to come!
Just checking in on the "BEST" Porsche channel on you tube ..bless up!! by the way sounds very weird ..but I restored a few head lights wit >> wait for it.. Mothers wheel polish.. has a fine grit and takes off oxidation ..all needed after is a lil car wax ..give it a try its fast and cheap
Thanks mate!! Very cool! I'll give it a go!
Regarding the broken transmission… I’m guessing you’ll follow up on a future video but have you checked the frame alignment?
Great question! There will be more videos coming on the transmission, but yes - that's one of the most likely culprits.
James, I would say your future is looking bright. ;) LOL
Hahah. So far at least. :-)
Nice to see you back on RUclips. Happy new year my friend !
Cheers and happy new year to you too!! All the best.
The moment your back was turned Steve put in a brand new light so you did well to match up 😎

I did my headlights with a Sylvania headlight restoration kit! Worked absolutely perfect
Happy New Year James ! Awesome project !
Thanks Trond! Happy new year!
Thank you for deciding to resurrect that car James. Great decision. Really like 996’s and it will be good for the channel.
Btw, you and Jay should try to make the Porsche Parade 2022 in Poconos PA in June 👍🏾
Cheers Nate, appreciate it! Porsche Parade '22. Got it. It's on the list to check out!
@@AutoAmateur Would love to finally meet there. Keep up the great content.
I believe you are on the right track get the power tools out. Good luck with the 996 my friend.
Thank you Mark! Cheers!
James, this is fantastic. Well done and thanks for taking us through your 996 journey! It gives me inspiration to complete some jobs myself with time and patience, as you mention. Curious, how has the Jet Shield has worked out after a year? Especially with going up to 10-12K on the wet sanding, how has adhesion worked out? So many vids stop at 2000 or 3000 before a wipe-on or spray clear coat, usually self leveling. As others have pointed out, seems like some quality PPFs exist for headlight UV protection, but I do wonder about heat buildup, and potential damage to polycarbonate lens.
Thanks again, and keep up the great work and enjoy the ride!
- John
Thank you! I’ve never liked how PPF can look on cars when you’re up close to be honest. It’s like talking to someone when their shades are on, kinda, sorta. I don’t know. Haha. There are lots of great PPF jobs over the paint but headlights? Noooooo. I don’t like that. Gross. 😜😅
Another great video my friend. Great job cleaning that headlight. It would be nice to see that car all done and on the road again!
Cheers Costas!!
Nice video James... can't wait to see the 996 "completed"...!!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Regards,
ALinCAL
Cheers Al! Happy new year to you too!
I'm planning on doing the same with a 2001 996 convertible in need of serious help. Hoping to pick it up in a week or two but watching your videos really inspired me! I won't be going as far as replacing the motor & transmission but pretty much everything else. Thanks and keep them coming!
Cheers Steve and good luck!!
As always, great DIY video…Congrats James! And Happy New Year 2022! Regards from Northamptonshire, UK! 👊🏻😉😎
Cheers and happy new year!! All the best.
Headlight looks much better. Give it one more go and I think it will look perfect.
def hit them with a ceramic coating
I absolutely love what you’ve done thus far with the 996 I guess I’m a bit biased because I’m the proud owner of a 996 as well but I must say that wing is probably my favorite thing you’ve done! Completely accents the car! Can I ask how you acquired?
Thanks John! I found the wing on eBay actually. I spent around $500 on it then had to get it painted of course on top of that. It's from a seller in China and it's made from fiberglass with black metal grills on the top of the two intakes / vents. There are other more expensive options out there that might look better on the car, but I'm still absolutely blown away by how great it looks. It doesn't look after market at all, in the flesh it looks like it came straight from the factory. I love it! Cheers.
Happy new year james- great to see your 996 being worked on again. Couple of tips for you. I would get a dedicated headlight polish compound as it has the perfect formulation for soft plastic. Also there are other really good headlight protectant sprays that last for 5-10 years. Larrys Ammo nyc did a video on it a few years ago ruclips.net/video/uqOKmZ9mMfc/видео.html
All the best andy
