Second Bastion wasn’t with the others at the time as he wanted to learn from Tanya how to get out of that dark dimension. Lastly the gang hadn’t yet hooked up with Aster and Zane.
That's the real reason it fizzled out. Just imagining "I use my card to summon Number 39: UTOPIA! .... huh? i'ts an Xyz monster... you don't know what an xy.... anyone? Oh... right this is GOAT format..." I do like how in Duel links, characters do mention cards they've never seen in the Anime, even new cards that didn't exist while they were alive. Though Kaiba somehow invented a machine that brings the minds of every duelist in multiple dimensions together with thier memories intact (Shoutouts to Bonz exclaiming "I'm alive? How am I alive?" Poor kid....XD) and recognizing the new cards that didn't exist in their time.

Jaden vs Brron is one of my favourite GX duels. Not only is it fun to see Dark Worlds get some anime love but Jaden’s descent into darkness is both fascinating and depressing to see. Yes, he was reckless and got his friends into trouble but he was still trying to protect them and save Jesse. Seeing his closest friends verbally lash out at him is heartbreaking. Not to mention, Jaden finally becoming engulfed in anger for the first time is one of GX’s most iconic moments. Seriously, Kenn (Jaden’s JP VA) is amazing in this duel.
I love the complete tone shift the series takes. We go from "Haha! I'm hanging out with my crew in the schoolyard!" to "My friends are all dead and I killed them. As a child I had to have my memories essentially erased because I could hear the pained screaming of my best friend burning alive in the light and I was the one who sent them there because they killed everyone that wronged me. I have to be time warped just so I can remember to have fun again and overcome my PTSD from having to constantly duel with my life, my friend's lives, and the universe hanging in the balance."
Zexal literally goes from "I'm just a kid learning how to play the game and stopping these overpowered cards from corrupting people" to "Welcome to hell, time to face the literal devil in a war against heaven." and in the end, Yuma somehow manages to get both sides to shake hands and becomes an interdimensional hero. Also SEVENS sends a 10 year old to build and pilot a giant moon mech that ends up becoming a time machine so he can meet his ancestors and teach them about Rush Dueling while an alien needs to use the rules of Rush duel to save his people from anillation. All this from a kid who wanted a ruleset that's basically Speed Duel but you can draw and summon as many times as you want and Extra deck monsters except fusion don't exist anymore. XD Gosh I love this series!
@@veracsthedefiled"Sent to the stars" is a dub thing, in the JP they were supposedly killed--but like the Shadow Realm in DM the dub requires less suspension of disbelief because it kinda cheapens the stakes when almost every character who dies by magical means gets resurrected/was never actually killed. Given how many cultures have myths and stories which associate stars/constellations with death in some fashion, and the apparent vagueness of the statement, "sent to the stars" still gets away with implying death without detracting from the reveal that they're just imprisoned in a sorta hellish wasteland.

Personally for ne, i think its 45% Jaden's fault, 55% his friends fault. Lemme explain (prepare for a potentially long explanation) - Jaden was being too near sighted in his desire to save Jessie, to the point of literal potential suicide. Yes i think he should have tried to trust and lean on his friends, but ill get to them right now. - Jaden's friends, simply put, are dead weight. They have proven, time and time and time again that they SIMPLY cannot be trusted to clutch up when things go bad. Seasons 1, 2 and 4 prove this. If i was Jaden, id want to handle things on my own too, because unless your name Zane, Aster or even Jesse, you're not accomplishing anything. Tl;dr, Jaden had tunnel vision but his friends didnt have the means to support him anyway.
Unironically, the season's worst issue is that they literally did nothing(To the point where Atticus simply spawns into the plot halfway just to eat it with 0 contribution inbetween). They at least should have been part of the action before being caught.
Kind of a shame cause Chazz had some of the best "Supposed to lose but ended up schooling everyone" duels in season 1. I'd have liked for them to pull a reverse Joey and just have Chazz pop in and show Jaden what can be done with a little creativity. The best part was he NEVER complained about the quality of his deck, he always just knew HOW to use them (yeah he hates the Ojamas, but he still crushes his opponents with them....) but the parallels to ARC-V are there, the main character breaking down and effectively becoming the villain in the end.
@@MarioMastarThey did Chazz so dirty. He should have been the person that can go up against opponents and handle things when Jaden wasn't around. He was the only one that I feel was actually competent most of the time as well as the only one that actually cared for Jaden as when he couldn't see his cards and tried to cheer him up. It's not his fault he kept getting brainwashed and stuff. To this day, I still feel like the Duel with Amnael should have been a Jaden and Chazz Tag Duel

When I saw my favourite protagonist go dark and become the Supreme King, I was terrified of what was going to happen and well I was right. The Supreme King was a merciless, tyrannical overlord who showed no mercy to anyone. But above all else, he was a fantastic duelist and his duels are the ones I remember the most. Jaden had to live with the burden of all the problems he did as the Supreme King and all the pain and guilt the Supreme King did not feel. GX got way too dark in the end and I love it.
not only that but they took The Supreme King Vs Zane Truesdale from Us Could Jaden finally get a win over Zane? Had that outcome happened and Zane lost It would have led to an interesting dynamic Would Syrus Step up and beat the supreme king? which would have led to who could stop supreme king where Axel, Jim and Zane Failed
@@AlexisStreams I think Zane would just Power Bond into Chimeratech Overdragon and also throw on triple(!) Limiter Removal to bring down not just SK Jaden, but his entire kingdom with nuke after nuke. Imagine a 38,400 ATK Chimeratech Overdragon attacking six times in one turn. Ain't no way anyone survives THAT.
I'd have say that both Jaden and all of his friends were equally wrong to a degree. No Jaden didn't listen to them and was very reckless, but at the same time none of his friends actually judged the situation correctly. Jaden wasn't so focused on saving Jesse because he didn't care about anyone or anything else, he was so focused on saving him because he blamed himself for everything that had happened to all of them throughout the year. Viper came to duel academy and put students into comas because Yubel told him to find Jaden. Yubel transported the school and everyone in it to the desert world because they wanted to get rid of Jaden's friends. Jesse wouldn't have been stranded in an alternate dimension and forced to stay behind in the first place if it wasn't for Jaden. Jaden was on the verge of a mental breakdown well before the duel with Brron even started, and yet none of his friends actually noticed that. They just assumed he was hyper focused on Jesse and so they didn't give him the help he actually needed at all. He didn't need back-up or protection. What he needed was for at least one of them to let him know that it wasn't his fault, that he hadn't doomed them all by simply existing. Instead we got what ended up happening, Jaden getting pushed away by the only people he had left and sinking even further into his already broken state.
Yeah, I agree Jaden isn't entirely blameless with being reckless, but honestly the blame isn't what I'd call equal. His friends definitely are in the wrong more than he is, since literally everything that happened to them over the year was because of Yubel wanting to get to Jaden and they act him going alone to protect them(since it's pretty obvious Yubel doesn't really care if they hurt the rest of Jaden's friends so long as he comes back to them) as him being selfish. It's not selfish if it's been shown you guy will be in danger if you follow him.
I don’t know if it should mostly go to his friends. Jaden rushed into duels in part out of a desperation to save Jesse as said above, but also to keep his friends out of danger. They came but he didn’t trust them, which is a reasonable conclusion from how terribly the show wrote the side cast, since Jaden kept stealing battles other people should have had(Syria’s should have dueled Camula for Zane’s soul, Alexis should have dueled Atticus and Chazz should have saved Alexis from arcana). Helios friends reasonably interpreted this as Jaden being reckless for no reason and putting everyone in danger, which he eventually did. Had he trusted everyone to some degree and traveled with them, no one would have gotten ambushed(which was a bs way to throw way half the cast, they didn’t even duel and just got mugged). The issue is that no one communicated their reasons, so no one was entirely wrong or right, just what the show has always done, wrote Jaden really well and everyone else like shit.
They basically made a bad situation worse by their own actions and sooner rather than later learned the consequences and even more of them died as a result
The funny thing about Battle of Sleeping Spirits is that the anime version doesn't have the part that doubles Neos' ATK. They added that part to the real world version exclusively to simulate the circumstances of this duel, so in the case the opponent can summon something, as long as it has 2500 ATK like Reign-Beaux, it'll be the same as if Neos attacks directly.
Jaden is extremely lucky that Bron played Gateway to Dark World. As you mentioned about Battle of Sleeping Spirits, it doesn’t have the ability to double Neos’s attack. Essentially the replay battle with Reinbow Overlord of Dark World would have no point. To be fair to Jaden, he was possessed by the Supreme King’s evil energy so he wasn’t thinking straight but Bron would’ve won on his next turn if not for GateWay to Dark World’s drawback.
Notably, if we include filler, Yusei and Yusaku are the only protagonists who never went into a berserker rage. Atem, Judai, Yuma, and Yuya all did so, and they looked cray cray while doing it
I like how them going all rage mode somehow alters the way the duel would've ended cause when they're mad they always draw the perfect card to turn the duel around. XD Though I also love how YUMA has multiple Super Saiyan forms and people sleep on Zexal.... XD XD
As far as the "who's in the wrong?" question goes, I think it's an ESH with Jaden being very slightly less in the wrong, only and specifically because he straight up told them all not to follow him and that he could guarantee their safety if they did. Yes Jaden's got some major tunnel vision going on and it is a problem; it literally kills Freed and jeopardises the camp he was helping, and he leaves his friends who followed him by the wayside without even realising they got kidnapped. His desperate need to get Jesse back is clearly bringing out the worst in him throughout this arc and that culminates in awakening as the Supreme King who's straight up locked away his memories of all his friends so he can't be hurt by their loss anymore (not to mention the mass execution of duelists). Jaden's distinctly not "in the right" this entire time, but that doesn't mean the others cannot also be in the wrong. His friend group are frankly bad friends. They get along with him well enough and do seem to genuinely like him, but none of them really _get_ him, which is why he got so attached to Jesse so quickly as they do get each other. Worse is they repeatedly over rely on Jaden's skills as a duellist throughout the entirety of GX, which places the burdens on him he's shown struggling with in early season 3. He has to handle half the shadow riders in season 1 by himself, Chazz and Alexis both manage to take one each but then they all get wiped by Banner, and then Jaden's also stuck staring down 3 pseudo-God Cards in the Sacred Beasts. Syrus is literal dead weight not even getting a spirit key but showing up to shadow duels anyway just to get repeatedly taken hostage, sometimes accompanied by someone else depending on who's available. Season 2 Chazz probably gives the best effort to getting Jaden out of his post-Aster funk. but is literally the first to fall to the Light and Jaden later has to duel that back out of him. Alexis also gets brainwashed, Bastion literally throws for a sense of acceptance, Syrus tries his best with Zane but his best is decidedly mid, and outside of that he spends the entire season bickering with Hassleberry over which one if Jaden's "best friend" which Jaden is visibly uncomfortable with. Other than Hassleberry being "part dinosaur" which let him resist the Light of Destruction and being able to astral project into space along side Neos so they can beat up a mind controlling satellite together, he's mostly just on the sidelines as well. Even Aster fails to handle Sartorius so Jaden has to clutch as the last hope once again against a potentially world ending card game based threat. And then there's all the troubles they go through in the early half of season 3, nobody in the original friend group is useful during the "bio band arc" except Syrus who clocks it immediately (in the dub at least), except by this point Syrus has such a negative track record that nobody even listens to him, so it's basically all up to the new transfer students (one of whom takes Syrus hostage, again). When Jaden's getting bogged down mentally and feeling lost Jesse's the only one who catches there's something wrong, not his friends of 2 years though only the guy he met maybe a month ago and really vibed with off the bat. In the monster world Chazz fumbles into being a duel zombie which makes everything dramatically worse. The group are repeatedly unhelpful and place a lot of responsibility on Jaden whether intentionally or not because they cannot handle it themselves. They even spend a notable amount of season 4 acting like they're at a loss because Jaden isn't there to help them due to his closing himself away and acting independently a lot more (especially when dealing with supernatural threats, wonder why /s). And then it comes out that everything's been orcastrated by Yubel this entire season which immediately sets Jaden spiralling because "this is all my fault", and Jesse is the only one actually able to support him. Jesse even sacrifices himself to get everyone else back to their world, which sets up Jaden going back to find him in this arc, because how could he not? It's "his fault" any of this happened, and now that Jesse's stuck in that world, how could he not notice? Jesse was the most supportive friend Jaden's had all GX, and now he's lost him he's really feeling that absence, all on top of the guilt from feeling responsible for it due to his connection to Yubel. So naturally Jaden _needs_ to get him back, and this time it really is his own sense of responsibility telling him to do so, not one placed on him. When his friends go to follow him he argues against it, tells them not to come, that he doesn't know what'll happen and that he cannot promise to keep them safe, but they insist anyway. They mean well, but given their previous showings it'd be no wonder why Jaden wouldn't fully trust them to be able to look after themselves. Then they go through the portal and hey, guess what they don't look after themselves! Nobody except Jaden duels at all because Jaden learns "if you lose, you die" and after the last 2.5 years he's seen them all lose too many times at important moments to risk that, so now Jaden's duelling for everyone (largely offscreen)and he's getting tired while they all feel rather put out and have nothing to do exemplifying how they're dead weight on this trip. Jaden's getting impatient and tunnel visioned and the fatigue only adds to that but his friends don't really try to help besides telling him to slow down (almost helpful advice given unhelpfully) and acting all huffy about the fact he isn't paying much attention to them (completely unhelpful). And _then_ they get captured, magically branded, and most of them are sacrificed to Super Poly ion front of him while they basically curse him out in their final breaths. Even though Jaden tried his best in that duel to keep them safe the danger was sown before it had even started, and while we can argue he should have been more attentive to them to have never gotten into that situation, they frankly didn't need to be here at all. If they weren't there for Jaden to lose them while they shout at him about how he's such a bad friend idk if he'd even have become the Supreme King since he was clearly mentally compromised by their loss which is what allowed Bronn's comment about Jesse being dead to send him over the edge. And then Syrus is the nail in the coffin after the duel ends, despite only clutching once ever in the season 1 tag duel and all the times his presence as a hostage made everything worse, he chews Jaden out and leaves him. *TL;DR: Jaden is selfish and greedy for trying to take everything on by himself and neglecting his friends as a result, BUT his friends are at least as selfish as he is for forcing their "help" upon him despite not being helpful, their constant lack of consideration for his state of mind, as well as for all the previous times they've forced him to clutch up and take on all the responsibility in the past; The latter of which is likely a part of the reason Jaden feels such a strong need to handle getting Jesse back himself now, as whether they meant to or not he's been essentially trained by everyone around him at Duel Academy the past 2 years to "be the guy" who handles everything and puts things right in the end.*
Pretty much all you said is accurate, while it's true that Yubel was manipulating events from behind the scenes, bringing out the worst in them all, the fact remains that it was there to begin with, and had been building up from the very first episode of GX. As I see it though, this was possibly due to the writers not wanting to throw away already-established characters, but seemingly not knowing what to do with them either, which quickly brought their relevancy/worth down, yet they were kept around. In-Universe, it's as you said, they're might be plenty of blame to go around, but Judai's 'friends' shoulder most of it for their wilful dependency on him to win all their battles for them. It is funny how often Jaden had to deal with strong floods compared to other protagonists. Gravity bond, the shenanigans in the dark world and skill drain. He even has his fusions locked out back in season 1 too.
@@flashghostBubbleman requires no other cards in play or in hand. I was thinking similarly with a line into Steam Healer which would crash and heal off the damage while leaving behind flare scarab to clean up.
I always felt it was odd that Jaden was basically punished for actually attacking his opponent, like what was he supposed to do, let himself lose? I always thought it would have been better if Jaden was punished if he took damage and he lost his friends because of that. That way he would have turned into the Supreme King because he was overconfident in his skills as a duelist and was punished for it.
That would be a better plot. Instead Bronn has his friends as a shield but instead of capitalizing on that he killed Jaden's friends so fast that you can't blame that on Jaden really since it was just Bronn's cards effect doing most of the work
I thought that was part of the point. What happened in the duel directly was not his fault, so Syrus was in the wrong for judging the situration out of context. It was however partially Jaden's fault for contributing to the creation of the unfortunate state to begin with.(Which is one of these moments where the 4K version just has a leg up btw because it has Jaden being told to wait actually phrased as a real promise he breaks with *barely* a single thought, rather than Jim just announcing "Promise!" out of nowhere. The details sure matter)
In fairness to the crew, they were also imbued with arcane runes that drew out negative emotions (anger, anguish, doubt, hatred, and sadness). I believe when any of them started talking to him, they say some mean things, but the rune also starts to light up, and I think Cyrus still had his toward the end of the duel (he also had the 'doubt' rune). So a lot of this might also be dark World magic messing with everyone's heads.
@@GambeTama It's heavily implied that the runes only made them say what they seriously wanted to say anyways. The doubt rune was never actually removed and is seen activating again at the end of the season when stuff does not look so good, but Syrus does not majorly let it influence his outlook as a bystander that time.

I do agree that they held feelings aligned with what they said, but given the rues themselves being so prevalent, I don't think I can entirely say that they were completely in their right minds when they said it. It's kind of like being intoxicated. Yes, you probably did mean some of what you said, but you are clearly also overwhelmed to the point where emotions are running irrationally high. As for the rune appearing at the end with limited effects... odd, but given Cyrus has a more confident view on matters by that time, it is possible that he is more able to keep himself in check.
Fake Friendship Treaty would just break the meta in so many stall decks. I can just imagine the rage quits people would have. Zure’s Power deck is also really unique and something I wouldn’t mind seeing get a real life print.
13:30 About the Zure Question: I keep seeing people say Jaiden NEEDS a draw card like Pot of Greed, Bubbleman, Convert Contact, etc. Not only is that a cop out, but demonstrably untrue. You see, there is a card Jaiden could top deck for victory. Three in fact. Those being any of his remaining Neo Spacians, except Glow Moss or Grand Mole As a general rule, I limited myself to only cards we know Jaiden had in his deck at this point (so no like Sabatiel or Super Poly). Furthermore, Yugipedia shows the specific decks certain characters use at different points, so I also limited myself to only cards Jaiden was shown to have in his deck during the Dark World arc. Also as stated before, no draw cards. Within all these margins, there is a way for victory. If Jaiden drew Neo Spacian Air Hummingbird, Aqua Dolphin, or Dark Panther, he could win guaranteed, that turn. You see, Common Soul actually lets you target any face up monster on the field and special summon the neo spacian in your hand to the field of the targeted monster. So, by targeting, say, Bombard, and summoning, for this example, the Aqua Dolphin Jaiden “just drew” to Zure’s field, Jaiden now has a non-Power Annihilator attack target. See, Ring of Fiendish Power states “Your opponent can only attack the face-up Fiend-Type monster you control with the highest original ATK.” This is VERY different than if it said “Your opponent cannot target monsters you control for attacks, except the fiend monster you control with the highest ATK.” Essentially, RoFP only prohibits Jaiden from attacking fiend monsters Zure controls with ATK lower than Power Annihilator’s. However, Aqua Dolphin is Warrior type, meaning it’s free to attack. So Jaiden can summon Flame Scarab who’d get 2100 ATK off the 4 spells/traps Zure has. Then he can just attack Aqua Dolphin with Flame Scarab, deal 1500 dmg, it’s destroyed, and since Zure controlled it, he takes Aqua Dolphins 600 original ATK in dmg due to Power Zone. You may be wondering about Grand Mole. If Jaiden summoned Flame Scarab and then Common Souled it to summon Grand Mole, Flame Scarab would have 3000 ATK. Move to battle phase. Attack Annihilator with Grand Mole. Due to the order in which effects resolve, Grand Mole would boot both itself and Annihilator back to the hand AFTER Annihilator can activate its effect, so Bombard would trigger, and Jaiden would lose. If it didn’t tho, with both grand mole and power Annihilator booted. Jaiden can swing the 3000 ATK Flame Scarab into the 1000 ATK Power Bombard for game, not even needing Power Zone’s burn damage. But of course, that wouldn’t work, as stated previously

@@manueljaramillo2520 the supmere king is supposed to use the gentle darkness to stop the light of destruction but because the supmere king came out thanks to negative emotions aka his anger that affected it causing the supmere king to start acting evil and conquer the spirit world and kill anyone that gets in his way.
13:55 i think Monster reborn would be the best possible way. Bring back Glow Neos,use its effect to destroy Power spirit. Then use Common Soul to Special Flare Scarab and add the attack Points to Glow Neos and attack directly
@@TTRoxas27 that’s one way but Jaden wouldn’t need Common Soul. Glow Neos has 2500 ATK which by itself would be more than enough to wipe out Zure’s 2000 LP.

I personally believe that Jaden was the one in the right and he was being purely selfless while his friends were being selfish. if we look back at the all the major arc before hand it's mostly jaden having to risk his life and save his friends with a few exceptions and he did so without complaint. So when one of new friends someone who he has quickly clicked with is effectively kidnapped due to his own mistakes he as normal rushes to save him while asking his other friends to to stay behind where they won't be endangered as experience has taught him his enemies will target them to get to him so for once he ask them to stay and let him handle it just like he always ends up doing and he would be back as soon as he could. But instead of trusting the one person who has saved them all to do what he does best they all go anyway and when if backfires on them as normal they blame Jaden who is already been hit with curve ball after curve ball just loses it and breaks becoming the supreme king and turning his love dueling into a weapon that he has to use to keep everyone safe with only yubel and banner the only two who couldn't get hurt by his side
About the second duel... If Jaden has a card that could resurrect Glow Neos (since it was in his graveyard and was properly summoned the first time), he could activate its effect to destroy Ring of Fiendish Power, since it's a face-up spell card. This would activate Glow Neos ability to attack directly for 2500, winning the duel. Thing is, I don't know what kind of monster resurrection cards Jaden has, so I'm not sure what would be available to him to use. Monster Reborn or Premature Burial would work, but I don't remember the ban list/allowed cards for that season of GX so I don't know if they were an option.
I love seeing these! I loved this arc when I was a kid and still do all these years later. Always thought the other dimension stuff was so cool! I hope you do Yusei vs Zone or arc cradle duels sometime soon though. That is my favorite duel of the series.
1:01- finally. All we need now is Valon’s cards to be adapted into the real game. On a more serious note- there’s definitely something eerie about the design that is very different from a bulky king I was expecting- regal and divine yet being transparent to reveal the demon underneath
Tbh the only one at fault are the villains since they are the ones who forced the situation and the emotions go that badly, everyone acted with best interest in mind and were exploited of that
I don’t believe Super Polymerization would have required a discard if he been able to send the 5th spell. One of the theories about the creation of this card (which was a card that didn’t exist at the time) is that the reason it requires a discard to activate is because it was "imperfect" with only 4 victims, and you have to make your own sacrifice to substitute for Syrus/Sho not dying. So, next time you activate Super Poly, remember that your discard is to replace someone not dying
12:16 no, It actually works like that (for some weird reason) on Duel Links, if you were to do this, the targeted monster ATK would also go up by Flare's increased ATK (Again: I don't know why, it just is) Also: To answer the question of "what could Jaden have done to win?" I'd say; he draws Pot of Greed, off of POG, he draws monster reborn, summon Glow Neos, pop a spell card, activate common soul, attack directly
The birth of the Supreme King is one my favourite things to happen in Gx and he’s my second favourite character of the series. Brron’s duel against Judai was really good as Judai slowly gets enveloped into the darkness and the Supreme King is born because of this. Also didn’t Judai act on his own because he wanted to save Johan who had been taken?
Great video! I forgot how hard Jaden clapped Scarr 😭. In terms or the question half way through whether anything could've helped Jaden in that situation - Glow Neos special summoned by Monster Reborn (I feel that's an anime staple) could work. Could he destroy a spell card to attack directly for game? It was destroyed after all by Power Annihilator The only question mark is whether Glow Neos could attack directly. I don't know the mechanics regarding the combo of cards, but that's my two cents. Either that or Jaden gets something like miracle contact or some spell/trap removal In terms of the question at the end - Jaden was in a lose/lose situation, which was exactly what Yubel wanted. She wanted him to abandon his friends so in turn they abandon him. It's a fantastic hero's dilemma which really did leave me depressed after watching it, but ultimately I think it's both correct Jaden was trying to do a selfless thing, but ended up looking selfish
Whether or not Glow Neos could declare a direct attack depends on the what we interpret Ring of Fiendish Power's specific floodgate to be - based on its ambiguous wording ("your opponent can only attack the Fiend-Type monster you control with the highest original ATK"), I want to say he wouldn't have been able to attack anything (not even the other player) except Power Annihilator, but I can't think of another card off the top of my head that also shares a "your opponent can only attack" clause to compare it to so I can't even test it. 😭 Edit: Just realised it doesn't even matter because Judai can just destroy Ring of Fiendish Power outright _with_ Glow Neos' effect. 🙈
I would argue S4 essentially validates Jaden/Judai's view, the other's were essentially useless and just got in the way. He intentionally distances himself and pretty much deals with Trueman/Darkness on his own. He only really needed Yubel in the end.
He was correct overall, but there is nuance that he lost sight of, which contributed to the things happening the way they did. Season 4 reaffirming that there is no nuance just sucks.
16:29 to be fair, it lists that the monster must be summoned off Super Polymerization, but it’s referring to an uncreated card. If I had to guess, while it is out of duel shenanigans, perhaps wicked cannon is meant to have an effect that would explain how it creates super polymerization? Idk.
I personally think Judai isn't wrong at all for doing what he did. He wanted to go alone in what he saw as a suicide mission. While I do somewhat see where Sho is coming from. Even after being offered help before leaving, Judai did say that he didn't want the others to come with him. I think Judai would have been selfish if he tried to force the others to stay safe, but from what I recall, Judai's reaction was mostly: "I don't want you to follow me, but I can't stop you either."
I always find it strange that everyone tries to blame his old friend for coming with him even though they all trying to help him. that the whole point for why he collapses in shame and despair and becomes the supreme king. in his haste to save someone from a thing "he started", he lost sight of his other friends to fix his mistake that was out of everyone control. also judia was selfish in this too that the point. at multiple times his friends offer their help and early season judai would have taken it but guilt obsessed judai couldn't and why he was so gung ho even if that meant he ignored his friend and he learned the hard-way but could not handle it and slide into the supreme king persona cause dealing with what he did was too much for judai at that point until he watched zane duel and came to confront himself for what he did and accept that it happened and do and be better...........

@@theseven5359 and that’s another thing we can get into notice how Judai did the dueling himself as he mentions in the scarr duel he doesn’t want his friends harmed and takes them on his own sowing more discord into the team. That and besides the other are fine duelist are they the best no but that not the point. Judai is blinding himself to bad moves and when he realizes it too late. He didn’t fully value and trust them to handle themselves in a duel which is why the sigil were effecting them cause that what Judai made them feel for ignoring them. Also one last thing cause that how we judge friendship for what they can do for us and not sticking by us to help.

GX Jaden against the Insurance guy that tries to win by deckout in the Society of Light arc And the literal darkness fighting against the fire deck in the last season (imo the darkest duel ever)
I actually would love to see the deckout duelist guy. He's a goon/jobber in the grand scheme of things, so it can easily fly under the radar, but it's easily one of the most cleverly written duels in the franchise
All that’s left is Aster vs Adrian and we’ll have all the duels of the Into the Shadows arc where Jaden lost a lot of friends. 19:47 Also I don’t think flabbergasted describes the expression on Jaden’s face considering what he just saw. Chazz, Hassleberry, Atticus and Alexis were some of the greatest friends he had during his time at Duel Academy and now because of his actions they were gone.
Unfortunately Power Annihilator's ATK would automatically change before Grand Mole's effect becomes live, which triggers Power Bombard's mandatory effect to destroy itself & inflict 1800 damage, killing Judai. Tbf though even if Grand Mole was able to return Power Annihilator to Zure's hand without triggering Bombard's mandatory effect, it wouldn't win Judai the duel and during Zure's Standby Phase, he'd send his Explosion Fuse to the GY to detonate his Power Bombard & inflict 1000 damage to Judai, killing him anyway.
Oh, he can drain the souls of all of Jaden's friends, but heaven forbid he pull a card from somewhere other than his deck. That's just crossing the line.
well we're very used to shadow duels at this point as viewers. It's expected to have lives on the line. a card literally top decking itself is basically only something Yami has done at this point with the power of the strongest millenium item (still hax, but this was legit magic).
@raze2012_ I mean, fair, that has become normal, but if someone was threatening to destroy the world, and the only thing that could stop them was if they lost at a yugioh duel, I would cheat if it meant I wouldn't die.
Judai was essentially going there to his death if he went alone, and his friends knew that. He was hyper fixated on saving Johan, and alone he would have ultimately failed. However I agree had they listened to Judai and not followed, they wouldn't have been captured. Both sides were extremely stubborn. But we have to remember they are high schoolers. They were all being manipulated anyway, so it's really nobodies fault. I feel they all did owe Judai an apology which they never gave him. Judai was definitely the biggest victim and he had to burden ALL the grief from this event despite them all sharing the blame. That's why he's so messed up in season 4.
lol. Well this was a pre-XYZ era design, so it actually makes sense it's fairly well balanced. We know even 5 years later floodgates start to have at worst a 'discard X from hand' effect. And it only gets worse from there.
The Dark World arc will always have a special spot in my heart because the first Structure Deck I got when I started playing Yugioh was the original Dark world Structure Deck.
For as reckless as Judai may have been, his friends brought this upon themselves. Not only did they not have to pursue him, but they were delusional in their ability to handle the situation once they got there. Let's be honest, Asuka, Manjoume, and Sho were all far too weak to survive for any meaningful amount of time. Daichi, Jim, Ryo, etc. were all much better duelists than them (remember, Daichi only lost to Manjoume the season prior because he let him win). This was also the final nail in the coffin for Sho's character. Judai had carried him for 2.5 seasons at this point, and he abandoned him the second he started to struggle. Sho's a sell-out, and a terrible "friend".

Brron was trying to create Super Polymerization which even then wasn't finished so he couldn't have used it during the duel even if he wanted to. Rein-Beaux is pronounced Rainbow? I was reading it was Rein-Be-aux since I first saw the card. There is actually a funny bit where Super Polymerization needed a discard to work is because it was missing the last piece needed to complete it so had that Super Polymerization been completed he wouldn't have needed to discard a card. Nowadays, the Dark World archetype has their own fusion spell that banishes Dark World monsters in the grave allowing for a summon of Colorless more powerful than before compared to using Super Polymerization. I say both Jaden and his friends were at fault. Jaden was being too reckless and while he was trying take care of things himself he failed to realize his friends are paying the price for his recklessness. The moment Jaden defeated Zure he had already set the stages for his friends to be targeted. Of course Jaden's friends were also in the wrong for ditching him after the whole thing. Syrus's emotions were too high and acted impulsively and he was that way for a while until Zane snapped him out of his brooding. As for Jim who was chasing after Syrus and Axel who was angry Jaden didn't listen to him and their friends paid the price for his recklessness, they later regretted ditching him in that state left to be consumed by his own intrusive thoughts becoming the Supreme King.
For the last turn with Zure, I think I have something that would work, but it would require 1 more perfect draw, so it would need some luck to work. -TopDeck then Summon Bubbleman, Draw R - Righteous Justice (The other card doesn't matter) -Summon Flare Scarab with Common Soul, Bubbleman gains 2100 Atk -Use R - Righteous Justice to destroy Ring of Fiendish Power. -Attack Power Bombard with Bubble man, deal 2500 damage, winning the duel.
Jayden allready used his Fake Hero on his first turn vs Zure, so unless he has a second copy of it, this play would've been impossible. And most characters in the anime only runs one copy of each card.

Jaden also could've fused into dark bright in response to special hurricane nest on turn 2, and popped the Archfiend soldier turn 2, to take the same amount of damage he did in the original, if not less if he could set clayman. Also, if Jaden had topdecked pot of greed, then got convert contact and either hummingbird or aqua dolphin, he could send both to the grave and draw 2. If he got miracle contact and either neos or e-call off of that, he could have won using storm neos to nuke the backrow. Alternatively, the same plan with dark panther would result in chaos neos, negating all of zure's monster effects.
I will still ask for Yusei and Kalin vs Lotten simply because of all the crazy events that happen because of the duel and to expose people to the original version of the duel and show them that it had an ending.
Lotten might have had an advantage at the start of the duel, but still being capable of handling both Kalin and Yusei is quite impressive. The only ones who handled such important characters are Dartz from Duel Monsters and Don Thousand from Zexal, both major villains.
Dealing with these "pure" emotions really is the most nuanced part of this particular arc. Both Jaden and Cyrus are right in different ways. Jaden goes out on his own to selflessly protect his friends, which is a noble act on its own, but has a flipside: it is prideful and selfish to do so. In this case, he is on paper acting selflessly but in reality acting selfishly because his pride and arrogance have made him reckless. In his mind, he is bearing the responsibility of protecting his friends, which ignores their warnings and wishes and actually costs 4 of them their lives. Instead of going together as a unified front, where they could as equals help and protect each other, Jaden has placed himself above them.
While Jaden's friends have good intentions the fact remains they would been a liability. Jaden always had to save the day because no one else had the skills to do it. Cheer him on but stay on the bench.
The only one in that group that honestly could handle themselves decently in Dark World would have been Chaz, and that's mostly because of his Armed Dragons and V-Z mechs. Axel and Cook's decks likely would not have even beaten Scarr's deck, neither would Syrus's, and Alexis probably would have been beaten by Zure. So all-in-all Jaden would have been better off going alone, especially since all of the friends who came with him were going to be used as sacrifices to make Super Poly. Them not coming along literally would have likely prevented Brron from making the card, as well as absolutely stopped Jaden from falling into the Supreme King early.
@@caiusdrakegaming8087nah Jim and Axel would have cooked Scarr. Jadens original friends are useless but the ones from season 3 are competent. If Jim can put up a good fight against supreme king he can beat random monsters
@@Philip7710 Actually Jim would have been screwed, he has no extra deck monster that need Fiends and all the Dark world guys use Fiend decks. And the only monster Axel can bring out without needing a level 4 or lower monster is Doomfire, but Scarr's Special Hurricane and Hurricane Nest specifically counters Special Summons. When I said Chaz is the only one of Jaden's group that could handle himself, I really meant it. Scarr's Fusion Devourer would have locked off his V-Z mech, but his Armed Dragon isn't a Fusion and could handle Scarr's monsters. Plus Chaz does have backrow removal cards, so Fake Friendship Treaty and the two Spells I mentioned earlier wouldn't be as big a threat as they were to even Jaden. Jim honestly only did well against Supreme King Jaden because... the Evil Heroes are Warrior monsters, a type that Jim's Fossil Knights require. If the opponent's deck doesn't run Dragon, Machine, or Warrior monsters, Jim's Extra Deck is basically useless.
As someone who plays Neos, there is definitely one card in Jaden's deck he could've top decked to beat Zure: Monster Reborn. He brings back Glow Neos, uses it's effect to destroy any of the three spells Zure has on his field, and then Glow Neos can attack directly because it destroyed a spell. Jaden's optimal play in hindsight would've been to set Winged Kuribuh on his first turn, and on his next turn do his Glow Neos combo and dismantle Zure's field.
Honestly, with how stressed everyone was and with Bronn messing with their negative emotions, it really isn’t any of the group’s fault over the rise of the Supreme King. Jaden, for all intents and purposes, was in a horrible lose/lose position. He was lucky that Bronn got impatient and overconfident in Super Poly’s creation, but the deaths of his friends and Syrus lashing out at him, finally broke Jaden and darkness consumed him. The real one to blame is Yubel pulling all the strings.
Sounds like the misplay on Skarr’s part could have been avoided had they just had Fusion Devourer already in his hand and instead drawing Hurricane Nest on that penultimate turn. Though that would mean a strong board combo of Fusion Devourer against fused monsters and Fake Friendship Treaty against strong level 4’s like Sparkman, so it would also be a misplay. Would require some convoluted plays so he’d only get both Devourer and Nest on his second turn (a set Jar of Greed, maybe) to totally avoid misplays. Anyway, the writers did the option we saw for the visual of seeing Fusion Devourer’s card before playing it (it is some disturbing artwork), I’m sure. Duel would have been the same either way (wonder if that’s why the Fake Friendship self-destruct was there even if it never occurred in the duel), but the way they wrote it is a little easier on the runtime and animation budget. Which is fair!
~4:42-5:06 To be fair, the question isn’t “could Jaden have set Clayman?” It’s “does Jaden know how setting works?” 🤭 ~15:50-16:36 I mean, as far as I can tell, activating the effect of Wicked Canon would have summoned the monster so you could consider the “Super Polymerization” being used as fluff in the same way as the book itself… or the runes that were both in Bronn’s cards and the other characters’ faces. Anyways, I really hated the events surrounding this duel. Jaden literally told his friends not to follow him and they did so anyway. Then, instead of actually *helping* him find Jesse, they were completely and utterly useless. Worse than useless actually, since them getting possessed by those runes led to them breaking Jaden and creating the card that Yubel needed for her plans. We didn’t even get to see any of them duel this arc! While I can’t blame them for trying to help their friend or being mind controlled to say things that’d otherwise be hypocritical to the point of stupidity… I *can* blame the writers for giving me hope that they would *finally* be more than just a bunch of Worfs and then dashing it with this scene. Not only that but they made it worse by having them get tied up and used for sacrifices for Jaden’s “Berserker’s Soul” moment. The writers might as well have made up four or five heirlooms from Jaden’s childhood and had them get stolen by Bronn’s men. At least then them being completely helpless would make sense, as it’d *actually* be a bunch of inanimate objects and not a bunch of supposedly capable duelists. 😔 I bet I would’ve found it so hype if I wasn’t so mad at the time. Ironic, considering said moment involved Jaden being more mad than I’ve ever been. Not as ironic as the fact that Jaden only realizes that his recklessness is dangerous to the people around him in a situation where it’s *not* his fault but ironic all the same.
As for the writers, I’ll cut them some slack by saying that tbf, this was their first ever original series they wrote. I, myself, am a writer-in-training so I know firsthand that we have good concepts to shows but we don’t know how to execute them properly. Gallop needed practice and experience to handle 150 original episodes series so GX was basically their experiment. This doesn’t excuse their writing mind you but it is what it is 🤷♂️
27:30 The anime version of the card doesn't actually double Neos' attack So from the way the dialogue was written, Jaden was planning to just crash the monsters into each other again for fun...which would leave him with no field and would still lose if Brron got another monsters next turn

I always found Reign-Beaux confusing. I never really knew, based on the way it is written (errata when), whether the effect is chosen on activation or on resolution, as it just says to destroy 1 or the other. It matters since if it is chosen on resolution, you don't have to tell your opponent which effect, but if it's on activation, you do have to tell them. I think it's the latter, but that's just because of how I recall it in Duel Links.
@TGS Anime 28:02 i would say that its 50/50 overall from both sides but if i had to pick one i would say jaden was in the wrong. Yes i get he wanted to prevent his friends from getting into danger and wanted to burden the responsibility of saving jesse but ultimately that obsession of saving jesse and not relying on his friends made him become reckless and less thoughtful of his friends which in turn circles back where viper calls jaden selfish is some type of truth to that aspect Like if he trusted his friends more often and had faith they can handle the danger of the alternative dimension i mean they had fought shadow riders and the society of light before this too But i do like they went the route they did with jaden descent into darkness
The thing is, they really didn't fight the society of light or shadow riders. They really fall into two categories 1. They didn't fight any of those members (Cyrus and Hassleberry) or 2. They were defeated and then Jaiden as a member of those factions (Alexis, Chad).
@@RFDN0 Even when they weren't fighting did we already have Jaden deal with the risk as Cyrus and Chumly were taken hostage by the first one already. We had a whole Episode with kaibaman about Jaden overcome it. And its not like Jaden has a flawless win record ether, Aster beat him there first time around as did Kaibaman and Zane. He needed a busted magic card to get over Kagemaru too. And Hasselberry might not have won a duel but he aided Neos in his Spiritual Dino form in taking down the Satellit Cannon. While Chese de-brainwashed all Society of Light Members after Jaden freed him as no one else could beat him. Aster also took down the D too.
@rynobehnke8289 everyone on the list for beating Jaden was either not making the argument that they should join nor had Jaden argue they shouldn't. Chaz also originally beat all of those members of the society of light in arc 2. We know those duelist are weaker than him. Arotrius clapped Chaz, though, and the assumption going in is that you need to be a viable duelist at that level for your argument to make sense. Every duel is life or death, Jaden is trying to save Jesse knowing Yubel is the threat. He also knows that Yubel is at the level of Artorius if not stronger from the previous duel Jesse saved him in. Yes, Jaden had to learn in season 1 to duel even when his friends were in danger. That is exactly what he is doing by fighting himself rather than letting them fight potentially dangerous opponents. Season 2 is heavily Jaden getting to the level where he was with his "magical card" in season 1. He doesn't quite reach that level of power again until arguably season 3/4, but he knows the others aren't at that level yet. The only member of the 5 sacrificed arguably at the level of power/skill to be a viable threat to Yubel was Abacus when using his Red Eyes deck (season 4 is where this is shown and him not being controlled by night shroud). A large part of season 4 is Jaden letting his friends grow and not be forced to rely on him for the smaller challenges (like we heavily saw in prior seasons) so they could grow to the levelnof power/skill equivalent to Zane, Aster and himself. Jaden was in the wrong for taking everything on himself. His friends were in the wrong for forcing themselves into this mission. Neither party knew when making the original argument that all of these duels were to the death. His friends were also in the wrong for heavily leaning on Jaden in the previous seasons for things to get done, while Jaden was in the wrong for continually pushing himself to the forefront. A confrontation was guaranteed to happen, rebalancing the balances of these relationships. They were all hitting a straining point, especially with continual high stakes occurring. This was the perfect storm of everything going to pot. Jaden had significant pressure build up over two years (possibly partially through his 3rd year) for him (3 seasons for us). Everything for him broke here, and he then spent the remainder of season 3 and all of season 4 fixing himself while helping his friends continue to grow themselves.
@@RFDN0 I pointed out Chaz again because after brainwashing did he get access to some level of future sight apparently. But even after that was he still far better than anyone else in Duel Academe or pro-duelist invited beside Jaden and Aster. Yubel also still has the Sacred Beast which Jaden so far was never able to overcome on his own. Even in the story we got did he need super poly and the Gentle Darkness to overcome Yubel meaning him going in alone is just suicide at best and the end of all 13 dimensions at worst. The only reason any of this bs in the second half of season 3 even happened is because the writers got lazy and ignore the rules of there own world by not just having the friends duel the monsters that try to capture them despite everything about the logic of the world and the personality of these people would suggest that they would. Hell Alexes and Chaz aren't even new to Shadow games as they fought and even beat a Shadow Riders each back in season 1 all of which were amplified by dark magical items. (hell we see in season 4 even a duel in which Chaz would have beaten Jaden if he wasn't forced to play dumb in the Ojamba custom) And only really Cyrus and Hazelbeerey could be argued to lean on Jaden. Alexis and Chaz did things on there own throughout most of season 1 and 2 (the entire reason Alexes ended up brainwashed is because she took it on her own) with these 2 also having fought and beaten a Shadow Rider each in season 1. And even than did Jaden help Cyrus to get better without leaning on him like in the Paradox brothers duel or when he supported him in his attempt to take the Hell Kaiser on himself. They only relied on Jaden only in story inconsequential filler duels as GX had the bad habit of having the villains demand to face Jaden specifically because he is so special.
It was cool that for a while the archetypes actually played into the show's story. Hopefully at some point we get a series were we get the archetype stories and have duels revolving around them.
shame they wasted The Supreme King by only have him Duel twice. They should have had The Supreme King beat Jaden's friends one by one to show his dominance and make Jaden shame and regret extra have impact.
A nice trio of Duels to analize before Halloween. Also, fun fact, the Duel with Scarr is the first time Thunder Giant used its real-life effect instead of its anime one, as in the anime it doesn't need to discard to activate its effect upon summoning. Of course, they clearly only did it to get Necro Shade in the GY so Jaden could win on his next turn. However, they could have kept things consistent between seasons by Jaden just using Graceful Charity here to get his Fusion Material and discard Necro Shade instead. As for what Jaden could have drawn to win his Duel against Zure without Sirfried, he has a lot of draw power to make a comeback. So heres how he could win, he draws Pot of Greed and use it to draw Neo-Spacian Grand Mole and Hero Mask. He Summons Grand Mole and uses Common Soul to get Flare Scarb on the fied, he then uses Hero Mask to send Elemental Hero Neos from his Deck to the GY to have Flare Scarb's name become Neos, he returns Flare Scarb(Neos) and Grand Mole to his Deck to Contact Fusion Summon Elemental Hero Grand Neos and uses its effect to return Power Annilator to Zure's Hand. Grand Neos attacks and destroys Power Bombard and deals 1500 damage, and with the extra 1000 dealt by Power Zone, Zure would lose the Duel due to his own Field Spell. Also, also, with these series of Duels, you've almost done all the Duels from the second half of GX Season 3, the only ones left are Jaden vs Sky Scout, Jim vs Kozy, Axel vs Skull Knight, Aster vs Adrian, and Jaden vs Bou.
29:13 I believe Jaiden was in the wrong, more so than his friends. His friends knew what he was doing was insane, jumping into some alternate dimension wormhole by himself on a hope of saving Jesse. They were completely in the right to go and back him up in such a dangerous situation. Jaiden, from my recollection of this arc, didn’t really protest or try to do anything to persuade them otherwise once they go through after him, and if I remember rightly he also snuck off alone to go in to the dimension by himself, with the others catching up later. He was, in many ways, traumatized by the loss/sacrifice of Jesse in the previous arc and let that blind him into being paranoid for his friends’ safety instead of trusting in their abilities.
I will counterpoint and say nobody did anything wrong except for Syrus blaming Jaiden. I will use a hypothetical real world example to demonstrate what I mean. Imagine a person runs into a burning building to save someone trapped inside. That action is both selfless and stupid as it could easily get you killed but it does demonstrate a willing to put one's life on the line to save another. If that person's friends then choose to follow, they are also making a stupid and selfless choice for the same reasons. However, everyone made their own choices. Everyone responsible for the consequences of their own choices. Switching back to GX, Syrus calling Jaiden selfish is essentially calling him responsible for everyone's death is I would say is objectively false based on what I have already said. It was wrong; and if it had not happened, Jaiden does not become the Supreme King. Making Syrus, albeit indirectly, responsible for every terrible thing the Supreme King does. The problem in my opinion was that yes Jaden was selfish when he was looking for Jesse and not thinking about his other friends but they chose to come with him and his friends looked weak for not standing up to the dark army and Silva and Goldd when they were kidnapped and Syrus called him out on it, but with all that said, this arc was great because Jaden had great character development and being able to correct a wrong with Yubel at the end as well.

For the question with Zure, the only way to win without Freed would be to introduce Storm Neos (and a few other cards) way earlier (Storm would destroy all of Zure's Spells and Traps, breaking his lock) off of a single top deck. This would require some serious plot armor shenanigans where he tops Graceful Charity, draws at least one other Neo Spacian (that isn't Air or Aqua) AND Convert Contact (which he keeps) and discards the Flare Scarab (or another Neo Spacian) with Convert Contact, then manages to draw both Cocoon Party and Hero Mask. He uses Cocoon Party to Summon Chrysalis Chicky and Dolphin, alongside one other. You use Hero Mask on the other, making his name into Elemental Hero Neos, then use the other Chrysalis monsters to Summon their appropriate Neo Spacians, then Contact Fuse into Storm Neos, using their effect to wipe his backrow... which makes it possible to attack Power Bombard and win the duel. Honestly, it's almost as ridiculous as "Monsta Cardo Ex Machina" like with Freed, so... eh.
I think if Bronn wasn't trolling around with the sacrificing of Jaden's friends. He would've won without having to get Jaden getting pissed off. Edit: Also, heck! Why not beat Jaden first BEFORE sacrificing his friends? That would've given Bronn the advantage since if Jaden didn't get pissed off, Jaden wouldn't have done that brutal combo on Bron in the final turn. He would've played like his usual self which Bron would likely take advantage of.
Although I can't think off hand of a specific moment a GX duelist played a facedown monster, I can remember a time one was reprimanded for not doing so. Season 1 when Chumley dueled his dad. His first play was summoning his Des Koala. His dad immediately told him he should have set if face down instead so he could've used its flip effect: deal 400 damage for every card in your opponent's hand.
This is just sad that Jaden goes evil during his duel against Brron, And all it cost is his friends, And what's worse 'At least in the 4Kids dub anyway' Jaden will never see Chazz Alexis Atticus and Hassleberry ever again in the whole show, Again he'll never see 4 of his friends ever again in the 4Kids dub of the show.
I actually subscribed to the idea that he will never see any one them ever again for a good while, but that does not really make sense considering his stated reasoning for being in BBT is that "former classmates got their cards stolen". They all most likely had a big old reunion offscreen after Jaden was done dealing with his destiny and talked about where the lives of each of them ended up after splitting up.

My take on Judai and friends with selfishness. Judai is reckless, not necessarily selfish, however all of them are being reckless. Judai is the one best equipped to be there, however that ark shows that being good at the game isn't all you need. He's ignoring this and ignoring that they all have friends missing. Judai is definitely being the most self-centered, but no one there is perfect. I still view it as something where their feelings are being amplified by the spell, but they are present and they are valid. I also don't think Judai was ever possessed but experiencing a mental break down caused by watching his friends die in front of him and feeling like it was caused by his own inadequacy leading to him searching for greater power and accolades to prove that it could never happen again, leading to the Supreme King, so my interpretations may not be normal

Unlike every other yugioh series GX has the weakest duelists as the main characters best friends. I mean sure Yugi only had Joey as a dueling friend but Joey alone is a better duelist than Cyrus, Alexis and even Chazz in my mind. When it comes to fate of the world duels? None of Jadens friends are really capable... Aside from the ones he met this season ans Zane. They should have stayed behind. Heck im a terrible duelist and id rather take on Tyranno and Chazz on a 2v1 then Joey.
29:05 in my opinion Jadon lost to Brron even though he reduced his life points to zero, his selfishness got the better of him he refused to listen to his friends which cost them their lives(except Syrus) and even though he reduced Brrons life points to zero he didn't prevent the creation of super poly and became supreme king and more importantly he couldn't save his friends.

That’s so wildly out of character for the less serious jaden. Turns out he was right though, because THEY were nothing but burdens the whole time. Kinda undercuts the whole thing.
I hate the last 2 season of GX exactly for things like this. Its contrive nonsense existing only to give Jaden a Edge lord arc that entirely breaks with the moral message behind the entire franchise. Like why can they even just be killed like this at any other moment in the series do they need to lose a duel for that to happen expect here because we need to get them killed by Jaden's fault so that he can have his mental break down. Its terrible writing were we have a goal set first and little effort being put into reaching it.

You can fight it in a duel (you can see it with Zane and Aster that you don't need to be Jaden to do that) But for the sacrifice story are they just not doing that they just let them self get captured, cursed and than sacrificed because the writers ignore the actual logic of the series here to FORCE a situation were Jaden would think he killed all of his friends. GX hyper focusing on Jaden is in general one of my big issues with the entire series as it often bends over backwards to justify it.

To answer your question, I think Jaden was in the right mainly because most of his friends can suck at dueling and I’m pretty sure the lost more duels than they won and if you lose a dual in that world, you pretty much die
So I guess Jaden shouldn't also have gone than given that at any moment Kaibaman could pop up and beat him again (hell duel 2 here was he needing a random outside monsters help to not die himself). Seriously the entire second season grow to quickly out of control because of how Good Cheese was. Also why would Jaden even ever think that his friends would leave him behind when the entire reason he goes is because he doesn't want to leave behind a friend of his?

Second Bastion wasn’t with the others at the time as he wanted to learn from Tanya how to get out of that dark dimension. Lastly the gang hadn’t yet hooked up with Aster and Zane.
And he also had a pretty cool and effective strategy.
He would have legitimally won if he didn't get impatient.
Although he himself was just a pawn in Yubel's plan to unleash the Supreme King and obtain Superpolymerization in the end.

I do like how in Duel links, characters do mention cards they've never seen in the Anime, even new cards that didn't exist while they were alive. Though Kaiba somehow invented a machine that brings the minds of every duelist in multiple dimensions together with thier memories intact (Shoutouts to Bonz exclaiming "I'm alive? How am I alive?" Poor kid....XD) and recognizing the new cards that didn't exist in their time.

I haven't played the game in years, but last time I checked, the DM world characters are simply digital recreations akin to the Atem that Seto duels at the start of DSoD.
Jaden vs Brron is one of my favourite GX duels. Not only is it fun to see Dark Worlds get some anime love but Jaden’s descent into darkness is both fascinating and depressing to see. Yes, he was reckless and got his friends into trouble but he was still trying to protect them and save Jesse. Seeing his closest friends verbally lash out at him is heartbreaking. Not to mention, Jaden finally becoming engulfed in anger for the first time is one of GX’s most iconic moments. Seriously, Kenn (Jaden’s JP VA) is amazing in this duel.
I love the complete tone shift the series takes.
We go from "Haha! I'm hanging out with my crew in the schoolyard!" to "My friends are all dead and I killed them. As a child I had to have my memories essentially erased because I could hear the pained screaming of my best friend burning alive in the light and I was the one who sent them there because they killed everyone that wronged me. I have to be time warped just so I can remember to have fun again and overcome my PTSD from having to constantly duel with my life, my friend's lives, and the universe hanging in the balance."
Jaden had the biggest and saddest character development ever. Yet he is still one of the best protagonist ever.
Zexal literally goes from "I'm just a kid learning how to play the game and stopping these overpowered cards from corrupting people" to "Welcome to hell, time to face the literal devil in a war against heaven." and in the end, Yuma somehow manages to get both sides to shake hands and becomes an interdimensional hero.
Also SEVENS sends a 10 year old to build and pilot a giant moon mech that ends up becoming a time machine so he can meet his ancestors and teach them about Rush Dueling while an alien needs to use the rules of Rush duel to save his people from anillation. All this from a kid who wanted a ruleset that's basically Speed Duel but you can draw and summon as many times as you want and Extra deck monsters except fusion don't exist anymore. XD Gosh I love this series!

@@veracsthedefiled"Sent to the stars" is a dub thing, in the JP they were supposedly killed--but like the Shadow Realm in DM the dub requires less suspension of disbelief because it kinda cheapens the stakes when almost every character who dies by magical means gets resurrected/was never actually killed. Given how many cultures have myths and stories which associate stars/constellations with death in some fashion, and the apparent vagueness of the statement, "sent to the stars" still gets away with implying death without detracting from the reveal that they're just imprisoned in a sorta hellish wasteland.

Personally for ne, i think its 45% Jaden's fault, 55% his friends fault. Lemme explain (prepare for a potentially long explanation)
- Jaden was being too near sighted in his desire to save Jessie, to the point of literal potential suicide. Yes i think he should have tried to trust and lean on his friends, but ill get to them right now.
- Jaden's friends, simply put, are dead weight. They have proven, time and time and time again that they SIMPLY cannot be trusted to clutch up when things go bad. Seasons 1, 2 and 4 prove this. If i was Jaden, id want to handle things on my own too, because unless your name Zane, Aster or even Jesse, you're not accomplishing anything.
Tl;dr, Jaden had tunnel vision but his friends didnt have the means to support him anyway.
Unironically, the season's worst issue is that they literally did nothing(To the point where Atticus simply spawns into the plot halfway just to eat it with 0 contribution inbetween). They at least should have been part of the action before being caught.

Kind of a shame cause Chazz had some of the best "Supposed to lose but ended up schooling everyone" duels in season 1. I'd have liked for them to pull a reverse Joey and just have Chazz pop in and show Jaden what can be done with a little creativity. The best part was he NEVER complained about the quality of his deck, he always just knew HOW to use them (yeah he hates the Ojamas, but he still crushes his opponents with them....) but the parallels to ARC-V are there, the main character breaking down and effectively becoming the villain in the end.
@@MarioMastarThey did Chazz so dirty. He should have been the person that can go up against opponents and handle things when Jaden wasn't around. He was the only one that I feel was actually competent most of the time as well as the only one that actually cared for Jaden as when he couldn't see his cards and tried to cheer him up.

When I saw my favourite protagonist go dark and become the Supreme King, I was terrified of what was going to happen and well I was right. The Supreme King was a merciless, tyrannical overlord who showed no mercy to anyone. But above all else, he was a fantastic duelist and his duels are the ones I remember the most. Jaden had to live with the burden of all the problems he did as the Supreme King and all the pain and guilt the Supreme King did not feel.
GX got way too dark in the end and I love it.

I'd have say that both Jaden and all of his friends were equally wrong to a degree. No Jaden didn't listen to them and was very reckless, but at the same time none of his friends actually judged the situation correctly. Jaden wasn't so focused on saving Jesse because he didn't care about anyone or anything else, he was so focused on saving him because he blamed himself for everything that had happened to all of them throughout the year. Viper came to duel academy and put students into comas because Yubel told him to find Jaden. Yubel transported the school and everyone in it to the desert world because they wanted to get rid of Jaden's friends. Jesse wouldn't have been stranded in an alternate dimension and forced to stay behind in the first place if it wasn't for Jaden. Jaden was on the verge of a mental breakdown well before the duel with Brron even started, and yet none of his friends actually noticed that. They just assumed he was hyper focused on Jesse and so they didn't give him the help he actually needed at all. He didn't need back-up or protection. What he needed was for at least one of them to let him know that it wasn't his fault, that he hadn't doomed them all by simply existing. Instead we got what ended up happening, Jaden getting pushed away by the only people he had left and sinking even further into his already broken state.

His friends definitely are in the wrong more than he is, since literally everything that happened to them over the year was because of Yubel wanting to get to Jaden and they act him going alone to protect them(since it's pretty obvious Yubel doesn't really care if they hurt the rest of Jaden's friends so long as he comes back to them) as him being selfish. It's not selfish if it's been shown you guy will be in danger if you follow him.
I don’t know if it should mostly go to his friends. Jaden rushed into duels in part out of a desperation to save Jesse as said above, but also to keep his friends out of danger. They came but he didn’t trust them, which is a reasonable conclusion from how terribly the show wrote the side cast, since Jaden kept stealing battles other people should have had(Syria’s should have dueled Camula for Zane’s soul, Alexis should have dueled Atticus and Chazz should have saved Alexis from arcana). Helios friends reasonably interpreted this as Jaden being reckless for no reason and putting everyone in danger, which he eventually did. Had he trusted everyone to some degree and traveled with them, no one would have gotten ambushed(which was a bs way to throw way half the cast, they didn’t even duel and just got mugged). The issue is that no one communicated their reasons, so no one was entirely wrong or right, just what the show has always done, wrote Jaden really well and everyone else like shit.
They basically made a bad situation worse by their own actions and sooner rather than later learned the consequences and even more of them died as a result
The funny thing about Battle of Sleeping Spirits is that the anime version doesn't have the part that doubles Neos' ATK. They added that part to the real world version exclusively to simulate the circumstances of this duel, so in the case the opponent can summon something, as long as it has 2500 ATK like Reign-Beaux, it'll be the same as if Neos attacks directly.
Jaden is extremely lucky that Bron played Gateway to Dark World. As you mentioned about Battle of Sleeping Spirits, it doesn’t have the ability to double Neos’s attack. Essentially the replay battle with Reinbow Overlord of Dark World would have no point. To be fair to Jaden, he was possessed by the Supreme King’s evil energy so he wasn’t thinking straight but Bron would’ve won on his next turn if not for GateWay to Dark World’s drawback.
I always love when Duelists snap and go full-on overkill. Super epic! (Albeit dark, which in turn makes it so much better.)

Notably, if we include filler, Yusei and Yusaku are the only protagonists who never went into a berserker rage. Atem, Judai, Yuma, and Yuya all did so, and they looked cray cray while doing it

As far as the "who's in the wrong?" question goes, I think it's an ESH with Jaden being very slightly less in the wrong, only and specifically because he straight up told them all not to follow him and that he could guarantee their safety if they did.
Yes Jaden's got some major tunnel vision going on and it is a problem; it literally kills Freed and jeopardises the camp he was helping, and he leaves his friends who followed him by the wayside without even realising they got kidnapped. His desperate need to get Jesse back is clearly bringing out the worst in him throughout this arc and that culminates in awakening as the Supreme King who's straight up locked away his memories of all his friends so he can't be hurt by their loss anymore (not to mention the mass execution of duelists). Jaden's distinctly not "in the right" this entire time, but that doesn't mean the others cannot also be in the wrong.
His friend group are frankly bad friends. They get along with him well enough and do seem to genuinely like him, but none of them really _get_ him, which is why he got so attached to Jesse so quickly as they do get each other. Worse is they repeatedly over rely on Jaden's skills as a duellist throughout the entirety of GX, which places the burdens on him he's shown struggling with in early season 3. He has to handle half the shadow riders in season 1 by himself, Chazz and Alexis both manage to take one each but then they all get wiped by Banner, and then Jaden's also stuck staring down 3 pseudo-God Cards in the Sacred Beasts. Syrus is literal dead weight not even getting a spirit key but showing up to shadow duels anyway just to get repeatedly taken hostage, sometimes accompanied by someone else depending on who's available. Season 2 Chazz probably gives the best effort to getting Jaden out of his post-Aster funk. but is literally the first to fall to the Light and Jaden later has to duel that back out of him. Alexis also gets brainwashed, Bastion literally throws for a sense of acceptance, Syrus tries his best with Zane but his best is decidedly mid, and outside of that he spends the entire season bickering with Hassleberry over which one if Jaden's "best friend" which Jaden is visibly uncomfortable with. Other than Hassleberry being "part dinosaur" which let him resist the Light of Destruction and being able to astral project into space along side Neos so they can beat up a mind controlling satellite together, he's mostly just on the sidelines as well. Even Aster fails to handle Sartorius so Jaden has to clutch as the last hope once again against a potentially world ending card game based threat.
And then there's all the troubles they go through in the early half of season 3, nobody in the original friend group is useful during the "bio band arc" except Syrus who clocks it immediately (in the dub at least), except by this point Syrus has such a negative track record that nobody even listens to him, so it's basically all up to the new transfer students (one of whom takes Syrus hostage, again). When Jaden's getting bogged down mentally and feeling lost Jesse's the only one who catches there's something wrong, not his friends of 2 years though only the guy he met maybe a month ago and really vibed with off the bat. In the monster world Chazz fumbles into being a duel zombie which makes everything dramatically worse. The group are repeatedly unhelpful and place a lot of responsibility on Jaden whether intentionally or not because they cannot handle it themselves. They even spend a notable amount of season 4 acting like they're at a loss because Jaden isn't there to help them due to his closing himself away and acting independently a lot more (especially when dealing with supernatural threats, wonder why /s).
And then it comes out that everything's been orcastrated by Yubel this entire season which immediately sets Jaden spiralling because "this is all my fault", and Jesse is the only one actually able to support him. Jesse even sacrifices himself to get everyone else back to their world, which sets up Jaden going back to find him in this arc, because how could he not? It's "his fault" any of this happened, and now that Jesse's stuck in that world, how could he not notice? Jesse was the most supportive friend Jaden's had all GX, and now he's lost him he's really feeling that absence, all on top of the guilt from feeling responsible for it due to his connection to Yubel. So naturally Jaden _needs_ to get him back, and this time it really is his own sense of responsibility telling him to do so, not one placed on him.
When his friends go to follow him he argues against it, tells them not to come, that he doesn't know what'll happen and that he cannot promise to keep them safe, but they insist anyway. They mean well, but given their previous showings it'd be no wonder why Jaden wouldn't fully trust them to be able to look after themselves. Then they go through the portal and hey, guess what they don't look after themselves! Nobody except Jaden duels at all because Jaden learns "if you lose, you die" and after the last 2.5 years he's seen them all lose too many times at important moments to risk that, so now Jaden's duelling for everyone (largely offscreen)and he's getting tired while they all feel rather put out and have nothing to do exemplifying how they're dead weight on this trip. Jaden's getting impatient and tunnel visioned and the fatigue only adds to that but his friends don't really try to help besides telling him to slow down (almost helpful advice given unhelpfully) and acting all huffy about the fact he isn't paying much attention to them (completely unhelpful). And _then_ they get captured, magically branded, and most of them are sacrificed to Super Poly ion front of him while they basically curse him out in their final breaths. Even though Jaden tried his best in that duel to keep them safe the danger was sown before it had even started, and while we can argue he should have been more attentive to them to have never gotten into that situation, they frankly didn't need to be here at all. If they weren't there for Jaden to lose them while they shout at him about how he's such a bad friend idk if he'd even have become the Supreme King since he was clearly mentally compromised by their loss which is what allowed Bronn's comment about Jesse being dead to send him over the edge. And then Syrus is the nail in the coffin after the duel ends, despite only clutching once ever in the season 1 tag duel and all the times his presence as a hostage made everything worse, he chews Jaden out and leaves him.
*TL;DR: Jaden is selfish and greedy for trying to take everything on by himself and neglecting his friends as a result, BUT his friends are at least as selfish as he is for forcing their "help" upon him despite not being helpful, their constant lack of consideration for his state of mind, as well as for all the previous times they've forced him to clutch up and take on all the responsibility in the past; The latter of which is likely a part of the reason Jaden feels such a strong need to handle getting Jesse back himself now, as whether they meant to or not he's been essentially trained by everyone around him at Duel Academy the past 2 years to "be the guy" who handles everything and puts things right in the end.*

Pretty much all you said is accurate, while it's true that Yubel was manipulating events from behind the scenes, bringing out the worst in them all, the fact remains that it was there to begin with, and had been building up from the very first episode of GX.
As I see it though, this was possibly due to the writers not wanting to throw away already-established characters, but seemingly not knowing what to do with them either, which quickly brought their relevancy/worth down, yet they were kept around.
In-Universe, it's as you said, they're might be plenty of blame to go around, but Judai's 'friends' shoulder most of it for their wilful dependency on him to win all their battles for them.

Supreme King Jaden's birth arc begins
I always felt it was odd that Jaden was basically punished for actually attacking his opponent, like what was he supposed to do, let himself lose? I always thought it would have been better if Jaden was punished if he took damage and he lost his friends because of that. That way he would have turned into the Supreme King because he was overconfident in his skills as a duelist and was punished for it.
That would be a better plot. Instead Bronn has his friends as a shield but instead of capitalizing on that he killed Jaden's friends so fast that you can't blame that on Jaden really since it was just Bronn's cards effect doing most of the work
I thought that was part of the point. What happened in the duel directly was not his fault, so Syrus was in the wrong for judging the situration out of context. It was however partially Jaden's fault for contributing to the creation of the unfortunate state to begin with.(Which is one of these moments where the 4K version just has a leg up btw because it has Jaden being told to wait actually phrased as a real promise he breaks with *barely* a single thought, rather than Jim just announcing "Promise!" out of nowhere. The details sure matter)
In fairness to the crew, they were also imbued with arcane runes that drew out negative emotions (anger, anguish, doubt, hatred, and sadness). I believe when any of them started talking to him, they say some mean things, but the rune also starts to light up, and I think Cyrus still had his toward the end of the duel (he also had the 'doubt' rune). So a lot of this might also be dark World magic messing with everyone's heads.
@@GambeTama It's heavily implied that the runes only made them say what they seriously wanted to say anyways. The doubt rune was never actually removed and is seen activating again at the end of the season when stuff does not look so good, but Syrus does not majorly let it influence his outlook as a bystander that time.

I keep seeing people say Jaiden NEEDS a draw card like Pot of Greed, Bubbleman, Convert Contact, etc. Not only is that a cop out, but demonstrably untrue.
You see, there is a card Jaiden could top deck for victory. Three in fact. Those being any of his remaining Neo Spacians, except Glow Moss or Grand Mole
As a general rule, I limited myself to only cards we know Jaiden had in his deck at this point (so no like Sabatiel or Super Poly). Furthermore, Yugipedia shows the specific decks certain characters use at different points, so I also limited myself to only cards Jaiden was shown to have in his deck during the Dark World arc. Also as stated before, no draw cards.
Within all these margins, there is a way for victory.
If Jaiden drew Neo Spacian Air Hummingbird, Aqua Dolphin, or Dark Panther, he could win guaranteed, that turn. You see, Common Soul actually lets you target any face up monster on the field and special summon the neo spacian in your hand to the field of the targeted monster. So, by targeting, say, Bombard, and summoning, for this example, the Aqua Dolphin Jaiden “just drew” to Zure’s field, Jaiden now has a non-Power Annihilator attack target. See, Ring of Fiendish Power states “Your opponent can only attack the face-up Fiend-Type monster you control with the highest original ATK.” This is VERY different than if it said “Your opponent cannot target monsters you control for attacks, except the fiend monster you control with the highest ATK.” Essentially, RoFP only prohibits Jaiden from attacking fiend monsters Zure controls with ATK lower than Power Annihilator’s. However, Aqua Dolphin is Warrior type, meaning it’s free to attack. So Jaiden can summon Flame Scarab who’d get 2100 ATK off the 4 spells/traps Zure has. Then he can just attack Aqua Dolphin with Flame Scarab, deal 1500 dmg, it’s destroyed, and since Zure controlled it, he takes Aqua Dolphins 600 original ATK in dmg due to Power Zone.
You may be wondering about Grand Mole. If Jaiden summoned Flame Scarab and then Common Souled it to summon Grand Mole, Flame Scarab would have 3000 ATK. Move to battle phase. Attack Annihilator with Grand Mole. Due to the order in which effects resolve, Grand Mole would boot both itself and Annihilator back to the hand AFTER Annihilator can activate its effect, so Bombard would trigger, and Jaiden would lose. If it didn’t tho, with both grand mole and power Annihilator booted. Jaiden can swing the 3000 ATK Flame Scarab into the 1000 ATK Power Bombard for game, not even needing Power Zone’s burn damage. But of course, that wouldn’t work, as stated previously

I personally believe that Jaden was the one in the right and he was being purely selfless while his friends were being selfish. if we look back at the all the major arc before hand it's mostly jaden having to risk his life and save his friends with a few exceptions and he did so without complaint. So when one of new friends someone who he has quickly clicked with is effectively kidnapped due to his own mistakes he as normal rushes to save him while asking his other friends to to stay behind where they won't be endangered as experience has taught him his enemies will target them to get to him so for once he ask them to stay and let him handle it just like he always ends up doing and he would be back as soon as he could. But instead of trusting the one person who has saved them all to do what he does best they all go anyway and when if backfires on them as normal they blame Jaden who is already been hit with curve ball after curve ball just loses it and breaks becoming the supreme king and turning his love dueling into a weapon that he has to use to keep everyone safe with only yubel and banner the only two who couldn't get hurt by his side
About the second duel... If Jaden has a card that could resurrect Glow Neos (since it was in his graveyard and was properly summoned the first time), he could activate its effect to destroy Ring of Fiendish Power, since it's a face-up spell card. This would activate Glow Neos ability to attack directly for 2500, winning the duel. Thing is, I don't know what kind of monster resurrection cards Jaden has, so I'm not sure what would be available to him to use. Monster Reborn or Premature Burial would work, but I don't remember the ban list/allowed cards for that season of GX so I don't know if they were an option.

Tbh the only one at fault are the villains since they are the ones who forced the situation and the emotions go that badly, everyone acted with best interest in mind and were exploited of that
I don’t believe Super Polymerization would have required a discard if he been able to send the 5th spell.
One of the theories about the creation of this card (which was a card that didn’t exist at the time) is that the reason it requires a discard to activate is because it was "imperfect" with only 4 victims, and you have to make your own sacrifice to substitute for Syrus/Sho not dying. So, next time you activate Super Poly, remember that your discard is to replace someone not dying

The birth of the Supreme King is one my favourite things to happen in Gx and he’s my second favourite character of the series. Brron’s duel against Judai was really good as Judai slowly gets enveloped into the darkness and the Supreme King is born because of this. Also didn’t Judai act on his own because he wanted to save Johan who had been taken?

In terms or the question half way through whether anything could've helped Jaden in that situation - Glow Neos special summoned by Monster Reborn (I feel that's an anime staple) could work. Could he destroy a spell card to attack directly for game? It was destroyed after all by Power Annihilator
The only question mark is whether Glow Neos could attack directly. I don't know the mechanics regarding the combo of cards, but that's my two cents. Either that or Jaden gets something like miracle contact or some spell/trap removal
In terms of the question at the end - Jaden was in a lose/lose situation, which was exactly what Yubel wanted. She wanted him to abandon his friends so in turn they abandon him. It's a fantastic hero's dilemma which really did leave me depressed after watching it, but ultimately I think it's both correct Jaden was trying to do a selfless thing, but ended up looking selfish
Whether or not Glow Neos could declare a direct attack depends on the what we interpret Ring of Fiendish Power's specific floodgate to be - based on its ambiguous wording ("your opponent can only attack the Fiend-Type monster you control with the highest original ATK"), I want to say he wouldn't have been able to attack anything (not even the other player) except Power Annihilator, but I can't think of another card off the top of my head that also shares a "your opponent can only attack" clause to compare it to so I can't even test it. 😭
Edit: Just realised it doesn't even matter because Judai can just destroy Ring of Fiendish Power outright _with_ Glow Neos' effect. 🙈

I would argue S4 essentially validates Jaden/Judai's view, the other's were essentially useless and just got in the way. He intentionally distances himself and pretty much deals with Trueman/Darkness on his own. He only really needed Yubel in the end.
He was correct overall, but there is nuance that he lost sight of, which contributed to the things happening the way they did. Season 4 reaffirming that there is no nuance just sucks.

I personally think Judai isn't wrong at all for doing what he did. He wanted to go alone in what he saw as a suicide mission. While I do somewhat see where Sho is coming from. Even after being offered help before leaving, Judai did say that he didn't want the others to come with him. I think Judai would have been selfish if he tried to force the others to stay safe, but from what I recall, Judai's reaction was mostly: "I don't want you to follow me, but I can't stop you either."

I always find it strange that everyone tries to blame his old friend for coming with him even though they all trying to help him. that the whole point for why he collapses in shame and despair and becomes the supreme king. in his haste to save someone from a thing "he started", he lost sight of his other friends to fix his mistake that was out of everyone control. also judia was selfish in this too that the point. at multiple times his friends offer their help and early season judai would have taken it but guilt obsessed judai couldn't and why he was so gung ho even if that meant he ignored his friend and he learned the hard-way but could not handle it and slide into the supreme king persona cause dealing with what he did was too much for judai at that point until he watched zane duel and came to confront himself for what he did and accept that it happened and do and be better...........

@@theseven5359 and that’s another thing we can get into notice how Judai did the dueling himself as he mentions in the scarr duel he doesn’t want his friends harmed and takes them on his own sowing more discord into the team. That and besides the other are fine duelist are they the best no but that not the point. Judai is blinding himself to bad moves and when he realizes it too late. He didn’t fully value and trust them to handle themselves in a duel which is why the sigil were effecting them cause that what Judai made them feel for ignoring them.
Also one last thing cause that how we judge friendship for what they can do for us and not sticking by us to help.

Unfortunately Power Annihilator's ATK would automatically change before Grand Mole's effect becomes live, which triggers Power Bombard's mandatory effect to destroy itself & inflict 1800 damage, killing Judai.
Tbf though even if Grand Mole was able to return Power Annihilator to Zure's hand without triggering Bombard's mandatory effect, it wouldn't win Judai the duel and during Zure's Standby Phase, he'd send his Explosion Fuse to the GY to detonate his Power Bombard & inflict 1000 damage to Judai, killing him anyway.
Oh, he can drain the souls of all of Jaden's friends, but heaven forbid he pull a card from somewhere other than his deck. That's just crossing the line.
well we're very used to shadow duels at this point as viewers. It's expected to have lives on the line. a card literally top decking itself is basically only something Yami has done at this point with the power of the strongest millenium item (still hax, but this was legit magic).
@raze2012_ I mean, fair, that has become normal, but if someone was threatening to destroy the world, and the only thing that could stop them was if they lost at a yugioh duel, I would cheat if it meant I wouldn't die.
Judai was essentially going there to his death if he went alone, and his friends knew that. He was hyper fixated on saving Johan, and alone he would have ultimately failed.
However I agree had they listened to Judai and not followed, they wouldn't have been captured. Both sides were extremely stubborn. But we have to remember they are high schoolers. They were all being manipulated anyway, so it's really nobodies fault. I feel they all did owe Judai an apology which they never gave him. Judai was definitely the biggest victim and he had to burden ALL the grief from this event despite them all sharing the blame. That's why he's so messed up in season 4.

lol. Well this was a pre-XYZ era design, so it actually makes sense it's fairly well balanced.
We know even 5 years later floodgates start to have at worst a 'discard X from hand' effect. And it only gets worse from there.
The Dark World arc will always have a special spot in my heart because the first Structure Deck I got when I started playing Yugioh was the original Dark world Structure Deck.
For as reckless as Judai may have been, his friends brought this upon themselves. Not only did they not have to pursue him, but they were delusional in their ability to handle the situation once they got there.
Let's be honest, Asuka, Manjoume, and Sho were all far too weak to survive for any meaningful amount of time. Daichi, Jim, Ryo, etc. were all much better duelists than them (remember, Daichi only lost to Manjoume the season prior because he let him win).

Brron was trying to create Super Polymerization which even then wasn't finished so he couldn't have used it during the duel even if he wanted to.
Rein-Beaux is pronounced Rainbow? I was reading it was Rein-Be-aux since I first saw the card.
There is actually a funny bit where Super Polymerization needed a discard to work is because it was missing the last piece needed to complete it so had that Super Polymerization been completed he wouldn't have needed to discard a card. Nowadays, the Dark World archetype has their own fusion spell that banishes Dark World monsters in the grave allowing for a summon of Colorless more powerful than before compared to using Super Polymerization.
I say both Jaden and his friends were at fault. Jaden was being too reckless and while he was trying take care of things himself he failed to realize his friends are paying the price for his recklessness. The moment Jaden defeated Zure he had already set the stages for his friends to be targeted. Of course Jaden's friends were also in the wrong for ditching him after the whole thing. Syrus's emotions were too high and acted impulsively and he was that way for a while until Zane snapped him out of his brooding. As for Jim who was chasing after Syrus and Axel who was angry Jaden didn't listen to him and their friends paid the price for his recklessness, they later regretted ditching him in that state left to be consumed by his own intrusive thoughts becoming the Supreme King.
For the last turn with Zure, I think I have something that would work, but it would require 1 more perfect draw, so it would need some luck to work.
-TopDeck then Summon Bubbleman, Draw R - Righteous Justice (The other card doesn't matter)
-Summon Flare Scarab with Common Soul, Bubbleman gains 2100 Atk

Jayden allready used his Fake Hero on his first turn vs Zure, so unless he has a second copy of it, this play would've been impossible. And most characters in the anime only runs one copy of each card.

Jaden also could've fused into dark bright in response to special hurricane nest on turn 2, and popped the Archfiend soldier turn 2, to take the same amount of damage he did in the original, if not less if he could set clayman.
Also, if Jaden had topdecked pot of greed, then got convert contact and either hummingbird or aqua dolphin, he could send both to the grave and draw 2. If he got miracle contact and either neos or e-call off of that, he could have won using storm neos to nuke the backrow. Alternatively, the same plan with dark panther would result in chaos neos, negating all of zure's monster effects.
I will still ask for Yusei and Kalin vs Lotten simply because of all the crazy events that happen because of the duel and to expose people to the original version of the duel and show them that it had an ending.
Lotten might have had an advantage at the start of the duel, but still being capable of handling both Kalin and Yusei is quite impressive. The only ones who handled such important characters are Dartz from Duel Monsters and Don Thousand from Zexal, both major villains.

Yeah I think so, I’ll try to make complication as I “complete” certain story arcs
Dealing with these "pure" emotions really is the most nuanced part of this particular arc. Both Jaden and Cyrus are right in different ways. Jaden goes out on his own to selflessly protect his friends, which is a noble act on its own, but has a flipside: it is prideful and selfish to do so. In this case, he is on paper acting selflessly but in reality acting selfishly because his pride and arrogance have made him reckless. In his mind, he is bearing the responsibility of protecting his friends, which ignores their warnings and wishes and actually costs 4 of them their lives. Instead of going together as a unified front, where they could as equals help and protect each other, Jaden has placed himself above them.
While Jaden's friends have good intentions the fact remains they would been a liability. Jaden always had to save the day because no one else had the skills to do it. Cheer him on but stay on the bench.
The only one in that group that honestly could handle themselves decently in Dark World would have been Chaz, and that's mostly because of his Armed Dragons and V-Z mechs. Axel and Cook's decks likely would not have even beaten Scarr's deck, neither would Syrus's, and Alexis probably would have been beaten by Zure. So all-in-all Jaden would have been better off going alone, especially since all of the friends who came with him were going to be used as sacrifices to make Super Poly. Them not coming along literally would have likely prevented Brron from making the card, as well as absolutely stopped Jaden from falling into the Supreme King early.

@@Philip7710 Actually Jim would have been screwed, he has no extra deck monster that need Fiends and all the Dark world guys use Fiend decks. And the only monster Axel can bring out without needing a level 4 or lower monster is Doomfire, but Scarr's Special Hurricane and Hurricane Nest specifically counters Special Summons. When I said Chaz is the only one of Jaden's group that could handle himself, I really meant it. Scarr's Fusion Devourer would have locked off his V-Z mech, but his Armed Dragon isn't a Fusion and could handle Scarr's monsters. Plus Chaz does have backrow removal cards, so Fake Friendship Treaty and the two Spells I mentioned earlier wouldn't be as big a threat as they were to even Jaden.
Jim honestly only did well against Supreme King Jaden because... the Evil Heroes are Warrior monsters, a type that Jim's Fossil Knights require. If the opponent's deck doesn't run Dragon, Machine, or Warrior monsters, Jim's Extra Deck is basically useless.
As someone who plays Neos, there is definitely one card in Jaden's deck he could've top decked to beat Zure: Monster Reborn. He brings back Glow Neos, uses it's effect to destroy any of the three spells Zure has on his field, and then Glow Neos can attack directly because it destroyed a spell. Jaden's optimal play in hindsight would've been to set Winged Kuribuh on his first turn, and on his next turn do his Glow Neos combo and dismantle Zure's field.

Honestly, with how stressed everyone was and with Bronn messing with their negative emotions, it really isn’t any of the group’s fault over the rise of the Supreme King. Jaden, for all intents and purposes, was in a horrible lose/lose position. He was lucky that Bronn got impatient and overconfident in Super Poly’s creation, but the deaths of his friends and Syrus lashing out at him, finally broke Jaden and darkness consumed him. The real one to blame is Yubel pulling all the strings.
Sounds like the misplay on Skarr’s part could have been avoided had they just had Fusion Devourer already in his hand and instead drawing Hurricane Nest on that penultimate turn. Though that would mean a strong board combo of Fusion Devourer against fused monsters and Fake Friendship Treaty against strong level 4’s like Sparkman, so it would also be a misplay. Would require some convoluted plays so he’d only get both Devourer and Nest on his second turn (a set Jar of Greed, maybe) to totally avoid misplays.
Anyway, the writers did the option we saw for the visual of seeing Fusion Devourer’s card before playing it (it is some disturbing artwork), I’m sure. Duel would have been the same either way (wonder if that’s why the Fake Friendship self-destruct was there even if it never occurred in the duel), but the way they wrote it is a little easier on the runtime and animation budget. Which is fair!

I mean, as far as I can tell, activating the effect of Wicked Canon would have summoned the monster so you could consider the “Super Polymerization” being used as fluff in the same way as the book itself… or the runes that were both in Bronn’s cards and the other characters’ faces.
Anyways, I really hated the events surrounding this duel. Jaden literally told his friends not to follow him and they did so anyway. Then, instead of actually *helping* him find Jesse, they were completely and utterly useless. Worse than useless actually, since them getting possessed by those runes led to them breaking Jaden and creating the card that Yubel needed for her plans. We didn’t even get to see any of them duel this arc! While I can’t blame them for trying to help their friend or being mind controlled to say things that’d otherwise be hypocritical to the point of stupidity… I *can* blame the writers for giving me hope that they would *finally* be more than just a bunch of Worfs and then dashing it with this scene. Not only that but they made it worse by having them get tied up and used for sacrifices for Jaden’s “Berserker’s Soul” moment. The writers might as well have made up four or five heirlooms from Jaden’s childhood and had them get stolen by Bronn’s men. At least then them being completely helpless would make sense, as it’d *actually* be a bunch of inanimate objects and not a bunch of supposedly capable duelists.
😔 I bet I would’ve found it so hype if I wasn’t so mad at the time. Ironic, considering said moment involved Jaden being more mad than I’ve ever been. Not as ironic as the fact that Jaden only realizes that his recklessness is dangerous to the people around him in a situation where it’s *not* his fault but ironic all the same.
As for the writers, I’ll cut them some slack by saying that tbf, this was their first ever original series they wrote.
I, myself, am a writer-in-training so I know firsthand that we have good concepts to shows but we don’t know how to execute them properly. Gallop needed practice and experience to handle 150 original episodes series so GX was basically their experiment.
This doesn’t excuse their writing mind you but it is what it is 🤷♂️

I always found Reign-Beaux confusing. I never really knew, based on the way it is written (errata when), whether the effect is chosen on activation or on resolution, as it just says to destroy 1 or the other. It matters since if it is chosen on resolution, you don't have to tell your opponent which effect, but if it's on activation, you do have to tell them. I think it's the latter, but that's just because of how I recall it in Duel Links.
@TGS Anime 28:02 i would say that its 50/50 overall from both sides but if i had to pick one i would say jaden was in the wrong. Yes i get he wanted to prevent his friends from getting into danger and wanted to burden the responsibility of saving jesse but ultimately that obsession of saving jesse and not relying on his friends made him become reckless and less thoughtful of his friends which in turn circles back where viper calls jaden selfish is some type of truth to that aspect
Like if he trusted his friends more often and had faith they can handle the danger of the alternative dimension i mean they had fought shadow riders and the society of light before this too

The thing is, they really didn't fight the society of light or shadow riders. They really fall into two categories 1. They didn't fight any of those members (Cyrus and Hassleberry) or 2. They were defeated and then Jaiden as a member of those factions (Alexis, Chad).
@@RFDN0 Even when they weren't fighting did we already have Jaden deal with the risk as Cyrus and Chumly were taken hostage by the first one already. We had a whole Episode with kaibaman about Jaden overcome it.
And its not like Jaden has a flawless win record ether, Aster beat him there first time around as did Kaibaman and Zane.
He needed a busted magic card to get over Kagemaru too.
And Hasselberry might not have won a duel but he aided Neos in his Spiritual Dino form in taking down the Satellit Cannon.
While Chese de-brainwashed all Society of Light Members after Jaden freed him as no one else could beat him. Aster also took down the D too.
@rynobehnke8289 everyone on the list for beating Jaden was either not making the argument that they should join nor had Jaden argue they shouldn't.
Chaz also originally beat all of those members of the society of light in arc 2. We know those duelist are weaker than him. Arotrius clapped Chaz, though, and the assumption going in is that you need to be a viable duelist at that level for your argument to make sense. Every duel is life or death, Jaden is trying to save Jesse knowing Yubel is the threat. He also knows that Yubel is at the level of Artorius if not stronger from the previous duel Jesse saved him in.
Yes, Jaden had to learn in season 1 to duel even when his friends were in danger. That is exactly what he is doing by fighting himself rather than letting them fight potentially dangerous opponents. Season 2 is heavily Jaden getting to the level where he was with his "magical card" in season 1. He doesn't quite reach that level of power again until arguably season 3/4, but he knows the others aren't at that level yet.
The only member of the 5 sacrificed arguably at the level of power/skill to be a viable threat to Yubel was Abacus when using his Red Eyes deck (season 4 is where this is shown and him not being controlled by night shroud). A large part of season 4 is Jaden letting his friends grow and not be forced to rely on him for the smaller challenges (like we heavily saw in prior seasons) so they could grow to the levelnof power/skill equivalent to Zane, Aster and himself.
Jaden was in the wrong for taking everything on himself. His friends were in the wrong for forcing themselves into this mission. Neither party knew when making the original argument that all of these duels were to the death. His friends were also in the wrong for heavily leaning on Jaden in the previous seasons for things to get done, while Jaden was in the wrong for continually pushing himself to the forefront. A confrontation was guaranteed to happen, rebalancing the balances of these relationships. They were all hitting a straining point, especially with continual high stakes occurring.
This was the perfect storm of everything going to pot. Jaden had significant pressure build up over two years (possibly partially through his 3rd year) for him (3 seasons for us). Everything for him broke here, and he then spent the remainder of season 3 and all of season 4 fixing himself while helping his friends continue to grow themselves.

I pointed out Chaz again because after brainwashing did he get access to some level of future sight apparently. But even after that was he still far better than anyone else in Duel Academe or pro-duelist invited beside Jaden and Aster.
Yubel also still has the Sacred Beast which Jaden so far was never able to overcome on his own. Even in the story we got did he need super poly and the Gentle Darkness to overcome Yubel meaning him going in alone is just suicide at best and the end of all 13 dimensions at worst.
The only reason any of this bs in the second half of season 3 even happened is because the writers got lazy and ignore the rules of there own world by not just having the friends duel the monsters that try to capture them despite everything about the logic of the world and the personality of these people would suggest that they would. Hell Alexes and Chaz aren't even new to Shadow games as they fought and even beat a Shadow Riders each back in season 1 all of which were amplified by dark magical items.
(hell we see in season 4 even a duel in which Chaz would have beaten Jaden if he wasn't forced to play dumb in the Ojamba custom)
And only really Cyrus and Hazelbeerey could be argued to lean on Jaden. Alexis and Chaz did things on there own throughout most of season 1 and 2 (the entire reason Alexes ended up brainwashed is because she took it on her own) with these 2 also having fought and beaten a Shadow Rider each in season 1.
And even than did Jaden help Cyrus to get better without leaning on him like in the Paradox brothers duel or when he supported him in his attempt to take the Hell Kaiser on himself. They only relied on Jaden only in story inconsequential filler duels as GX had the bad habit of having the villains demand to face Jaden specifically because he is so special.
It was cool that for a while the archetypes actually played into the show's story. Hopefully at some point we get a series were we get the archetype stories and have duels revolving around them.
shame they wasted The Supreme King by only have him Duel twice. They should have had The Supreme King beat Jaden's friends one by one to show his dominance and make Jaden shame and regret extra have impact.

A nice trio of Duels to analize before Halloween. Also, fun fact, the Duel with Scarr is the first time Thunder Giant used its real-life effect instead of its anime one, as in the anime it doesn't need to discard to activate its effect upon summoning. Of course, they clearly only did it to get Necro Shade in the GY so Jaden could win on his next turn. However, they could have kept things consistent between seasons by Jaden just using Graceful Charity here to get his Fusion Material and discard Necro Shade instead.
As for what Jaden could have drawn to win his Duel against Zure without Sirfried, he has a lot of draw power to make a comeback. So heres how he could win, he draws Pot of Greed and use it to draw Neo-Spacian Grand Mole and Hero Mask. He Summons Grand Mole and uses Common Soul to get Flare Scarb on the fied, he then uses Hero Mask to send Elemental Hero Neos from his Deck to the GY to have Flare Scarb's name become Neos, he returns Flare Scarb(Neos) and Grand Mole to his Deck to Contact Fusion Summon Elemental Hero Grand Neos and uses its effect to return Power Annilator to Zure's Hand. Grand Neos attacks and destroys Power Bombard and deals 1500 damage, and with the extra 1000 dealt by Power Zone, Zure would lose the Duel due to his own Field Spell.
Also, also, with these series of Duels, you've almost done all the Duels from the second half of GX Season 3, the only ones left are Jaden vs Sky Scout, Jim vs Kozy, Axel vs Skull Knight, Aster vs Adrian, and Jaden vs Bou.
29:13 I believe Jaiden was in the wrong, more so than his friends. His friends knew what he was doing was insane, jumping into some alternate dimension wormhole by himself on a hope of saving Jesse. They were completely in the right to go and back him up in such a dangerous situation. Jaiden, from my recollection of this arc, didn’t really protest or try to do anything to persuade them otherwise once they go through after him, and if I remember rightly he also snuck off alone to go in to the dimension by himself, with the others catching up later. He was, in many ways, traumatized by the loss/sacrifice of Jesse in the previous arc and let that blind him into being paranoid for his friends’ safety instead of trusting in their abilities.
I will counterpoint and say nobody did anything wrong except for Syrus blaming Jaiden. I will use a hypothetical real world example to demonstrate what I mean. Imagine a person runs into a burning building to save someone trapped inside. That action is both selfless and stupid as it could easily get you killed but it does demonstrate a willing to put one's life on the line to save another. If that person's friends then choose to follow, they are also making a stupid and selfless choice for the same reasons.
However, everyone made their own choices. Everyone responsible for the consequences of their own choices. Switching back to GX, Syrus calling Jaiden selfish is essentially calling him responsible for everyone's death is I would say is objectively false based on what I have already said. It was wrong; and if it had not happened, Jaiden does not become the Supreme King. Making Syrus, albeit indirectly, responsible for every terrible thing the Supreme King does.
Disagree or agree as you see fit, but that is why I think Syrus blaming Jaiden was the only wrong thing that happened.

The problem in my opinion was that yes Jaden was selfish when he was looking for Jesse and not thinking about his other friends but they chose to come with him and his friends looked weak for not standing up to the dark army and Silva and Goldd when they were kidnapped and Syrus called him out on it, but with all that said, this arc was great because Jaden had great character development and being able to correct a wrong with Yubel at the end as well.

For the question with Zure, the only way to win without Freed would be to introduce Storm Neos (and a few other cards) way earlier (Storm would destroy all of Zure's Spells and Traps, breaking his lock) off of a single top deck. This would require some serious plot armor shenanigans where he tops Graceful Charity, draws at least one other Neo Spacian (that isn't Air or Aqua) AND Convert Contact (which he keeps) and discards the Flare Scarab (or another Neo Spacian) with Convert Contact, then manages to draw both Cocoon Party and Hero Mask.
He uses Cocoon Party to Summon Chrysalis Chicky and Dolphin, alongside one other. You use Hero Mask on the other, making his name into Elemental Hero Neos, then use the other Chrysalis monsters to Summon their appropriate Neo Spacians, then Contact Fuse into Storm Neos, using their effect to wipe his backrow... which makes it possible to attack Power Bombard and win the duel.
Honestly, it's almost as ridiculous as "Monsta Cardo Ex Machina" like with Freed, so... eh.
I think if Bronn wasn't trolling around with the sacrificing of Jaden's friends. He would've won without having to get Jaden getting pissed off.
Edit: Also, heck! Why not beat Jaden first BEFORE sacrificing his friends? That would've given Bronn the advantage since if Jaden didn't get pissed off, Jaden wouldn't have done that brutal combo on Bron in the final turn. He would've played like his usual self which Bron would likely take advantage of.

Bronn put evil before his plan. He just wanted to crush Jaden with Colorless so badly, which didn't exactly work out.
Although I can't think off hand of a specific moment a GX duelist played a facedown monster, I can remember a time one was reprimanded for not doing so. Season 1 when Chumley dueled his dad. His first play was summoning his Des Koala. His dad immediately told him he should have set if face down instead so he could've used its flip effect: deal 400 damage for every card in your opponent's hand.
This is just sad that Jaden goes evil during his duel against Brron, And all it cost is his friends, And what's worse 'At least in the 4Kids dub anyway' Jaden will never see Chazz Alexis Atticus and Hassleberry ever again in the whole show, Again he'll never see 4 of his friends ever again in the 4Kids dub of the show.
I actually subscribed to the idea that he will never see any one them ever again for a good while, but that does not really make sense considering his stated reasoning for being in BBT is that "former classmates got their cards stolen". They all most likely had a big old reunion offscreen after Jaden was done dealing with his destiny and talked about where the lives of each of them ended up after splitting up.

And he still has his 2100 attack Flare Scarab.

I honestly would have liked it if this is how the duel went in all honesty. It would give the Neo-Spacians their moment to shine and it would show that Jaden doesn't need Neos or the other Elemental HEROs to win major duels.

My take on Judai and friends with selfishness. Judai is reckless, not necessarily selfish, however all of them are being reckless. Judai is the one best equipped to be there, however that ark shows that being good at the game isn't all you need. He's ignoring this and ignoring that they all have friends missing. Judai is definitely being the most self-centered, but no one there is perfect. I still view it as something where their feelings are being amplified by the spell, but they are present and they are valid.
I also don't think Judai was ever possessed but experiencing a mental break down caused by watching his friends die in front of him and feeling like it was caused by his own inadequacy leading to him searching for greater power and accolades to prove that it could never happen again, leading to the Supreme King, so my interpretations may not be normal

This is one of my favorite duels in GX. Infact the duel with Barron stuck with me ever since I first watched it.

Yeah... Im gonna side with Jaden here. Unlike every other yugioh series GX has the weakest duelists as the main characters best friends. I mean sure Yugi only had Joey as a dueling friend but Joey alone is a better duelist than Cyrus, Alexis and even Chazz in my mind. When it comes to fate of the world duels? None of Jadens friends are really capable... Aside from the ones he met this season ans Zane. They should have stayed behind.
Heck im a terrible duelist and id rather take on Tyranno and Chazz on a 2v1 then Joey.
It really surprises me how the Dark World monsters can draw.
29:05 in my opinion Jadon lost to Brron even though he reduced his life points to zero, his selfishness got the better of him he refused to listen to his friends which cost them their lives(except Syrus) and even though he reduced Brrons life points to zero he didn't prevent the creation of super poly and became supreme king and more importantly he couldn't save his friends.

Turns out he was right though, because THEY were nothing but burdens the whole time. Kinda undercuts the whole thing.
I hate the last 2 season of GX exactly for things like this.
Its contrive nonsense existing only to give Jaden a Edge lord arc that entirely breaks with the moral message behind the entire franchise.
Like why can they even just be killed like this at any other moment in the series do they need to lose a duel for that to happen expect here because we need to get them killed by Jaden's fault so that he can have his mental break down. Its terrible writing were we have a goal set first and little effort being put into reaching it.
@@rynobehnke8289guilt isn’t rational in the slightest. All of Jaden’s guilt and subsequent actions are fueled by one thing: the true mastermind behind the last two seasons. Yubel did all of this to get to Jaden and their spiral is a direct result of Jaden trying to help and making things worse. In his head, this is all his fault, and he has to be the one to fix it

See the problem is in large part how we get to this point,
At any other given moment when a monster challenges you. You can fight it in a duel (you can see it with Zane and Aster that you don't need to be Jaden to do that)
But for the sacrifice story are they just not doing that they just let them self get captured, cursed and than sacrificed because the writers ignore the actual logic of the series here to FORCE a situation were Jaden would think he killed all of his friends.
GX hyper focusing on Jaden is in general one of my big issues with the entire series as it often bends over backwards to justify it.

Now I really want Jaden vs Crowler, cause at the time, Winged Kuriboh did protect against Ancient Gear Golem’s piercing. Probably just a Uria case. One effect before, another effect that matches the real world in a future duel.
Also the 2nd duel is amazing character wise.
If Crowler had summoned the Emes of Infinity in his hand instead of Ancient Gear Golem, he could have won in the long run.

To answer your question, I think Jaden was in the right mainly because most of his friends can suck at dueling and I’m pretty sure the lost more duels than they won and if you lose a dual in that world, you pretty much die
So I guess Jaden shouldn't also have gone than given that at any moment Kaibaman could pop up and beat him again (hell duel 2 here was he needing a random outside monsters help to not die himself).
Seriously the entire second season grow to quickly out of control because of how Good Cheese was. Also why would Jaden even ever think that his friends would leave him behind when the entire reason he goes is because he doesn't want to leave behind a friend of his?

Jaden is the only good duelist here. Zane aside, everyone else on his friend group are weak duelists and should never pick up a duel disk again.
