It’s popular because if he’s not off the leash then any other time he’s essentially just another cog in the government machine keeping it running. Even if it’s killing people or sabatoging foreign governments he’s still doing some else’s bidding. It’s way more fun when he’s off doing his own thing

That Skyfall ending where everything just fell into place (Miss Moneypenny, a male M, and knowing that Q is out there) made mi giggle out of excitement in the cinema. I love Judi Dench and definitely a good mother figure M, but how they put this in place just made me recall the original Bond dynamics with Bernard Lee as M. Too bad we only got the Ralph Fiennes and Daniel Craig dynamics in 3 films only.
Between Gareth Mallory here and Orlando Oxford in the King's Man, I'm getting the impression that Ralph Fiennes is about to get typecast as a badass leader of an intelligence agency. Not that I'm complaining.

Not to mention how M legitimately had every right to be pissed off at Bond (and later Q and Moneypenny as well) throughout SPECTRE, but is still fiercely protective and supportive of them when it really counts (being more pissed off at C for spying on them than he rightfully would be at them for disobeying him, warning Q and Moneypenny about C’s spying instead of lashing out at them for said insubordination, telling Q to get rid of the Smart Blood files to protect Bond from any further surveillance in enemy territory, actively joining them in the race to shut down the Nine Eyes system once its true purpose is revealed, and so on). Say what you will about SPECTRE as a whole, but Ralph Fiennes’ performance as M was one of the main highlights of the film.

Wow, these scenes back-to-back really show how much duller the colour is in Spectre compared to the cinematography of Skyfall. Spectre just has all the colour sucked out of the shots.
What would've made the Skyfall ending even better is if the envelope had "Dr No" on it. Like when Gordon handed Batman the Joker card at the end of Batman Begins.

Shows what a botched, ill-disciplined exercise the Craig era was. The fact we never get to see Craig's Bond go on a single authorised mission where he doesn't go rogue, retire or die, is rather tragic. They kept teasing that we'd finally got a fully formed Bond and all the pieces were together for a classic adventure, but it never happened.
But Mexico wasn't an official MI6 operation; Bond was told in a recording by M to go to Mexico to track down a lead to the Pale King... So technically, the New M is by all his rights to suspend Bond for causing chaos and destruction without a governmental reason within MI6 interests. M says so himself; Bond had no authority. Getting back to work in M's word at the end of Skyfall means get back to working within MI6 parameters and authorisation via official operations and assignments.
SPECTRE takes place a little while after Skyfall. I would give it two months between movies. The Two days later thing is after Bond gets back from Mexico City
I often feel (though not much) the script writing lacks that something only an actual in the field workaholic could ever contribute. This example being, when faced with a life that has no way of detaching itself from what it is naturally compelled to be, an integral part of a mechanism for example, every moment lived is without a named profession, out-with an employable boundary and so an employers bounder-ised grasp, it is at these moments we must, and so often do... become exactly what we are and so not what an employment predicts us into being, there is in these moments no time for veiled pretence, showmanship, it is then we are who we perhaps thought we could never be. To be, as not to be... so to speak. LM p.s. great continuity, and great third person alteration.
The first scene is at the end of Skyfall (2012), and the second scene came just after the pre-title sequence of Spectre (2015). With 2 days later they mean 2 days after the events happened in Mexico, which was the pre-title sequence.
ironically they M's office up to look like the original Ms office, they even set up the ilms to be a origin for 0007 being bumped up to 00 status because of the threat level on M. Then they throw in present day stuff, easter eggs to previous films later and the BS "coo-coo im your brother" twist. What a crock.
This movie should have stopped at Spectre; It completed the story. NTTD was a pointless plot that had nothing to do with Bond. He should have retired and left that as the ending.
Bond puts Kirk to shame. I mean what would Starfleet be like if Kirk came back at the end of every mission going "So my Phaser is drained of power, I self destructed my communicator as a distraction and the bad guy stole my tricorder right before I kicked him off a cliff and on yeah the Enterprise needs to be rebuilt after I sideswipped a planet to lose a tail." Wait... actually that does sound a lot like Kirk doesn't it?
