Never ceases to amaze me, how people will just stand there and watch death coming straight at them...
Even in upstate NY (where we almost never have tornados) are we taught in our early years that if you happen to see a tornado and it seems like it isn't moving but rather getting BIGGER, that means it's headed towards YOU. And as reckless as the people taking this footage had to be, it is educational. They say seeing is believing and for some people they do need to see how a tornado and that vortex on the ground creeps up on you.
I saw some footage there that had a long white picket fence the recorder had in his frame, and that fence couldn't have been more than a half football field from where he was standing. He thinks he's okay but as that funnel gets bigger and bigger suddenly that fence gets ripped apart from the vortex and it clicks for him. That tornado has only gotten bigger and its only getting closer and he is 50 yards away from what happened to that fence just now.
Most people though do have the sense to not put themselves in that position, but even at what we would consider a safe distance there is debris tossed by a tornado that this video does a good job of also representing. Going back to that picket fence. Yes that tornado is coming right at you but all those individual wooden fence posts it picked up? Well now they are flying projectiles and you don't know which direction they're going to get thrown - or how far! They could stake the ground next to you they could stake some bystander a mile away. Stay clear and give mother nature the respect she deserves.
On a humorous note (gotta have a funny attitude sometimes) I did like the last few seconds of the video where the recorder was watching from what looked like his kitchen filled with deadly appliances. He moved at the last second but I was curious just what state his kitchen was in and it looks like the tornado shattered the glass door and ripped open the cupboards it didn't touch the pans on his stove. I think that means he can still make pasta!
A lot of times it can be a mix of awe and passive suicidal ideality. It's the same as when you're driving on the highway and hope you get in a crash, but don't want to actually cause the crash. Or crossing a highway while purposely not looking first. Lots of people want to die (or at least don't really care if they live), they just don't want to kill themselves. It's becoming a LOT more common in the past 15 years or so. Lots of people in your life could have passive SI, and nobody really knows except that person.
...and yet they still film in portrait mode.
The man was in his 80s and didnt realize until it was too late. His wife unfortunately died while she was hiding and he survived.
@@ndp7054 I was taught that "constant bearing, decreasing range" means you are in the path, whether its a tornado or a ship!
It's oddly common in combat as well
#4 is one of the most frightening examples of nature's wrath I've ever seen. Its so errie the way the guy stands there calmly filming as this gigantic killer monster slowly approaches him!
Illinois
I don’t think he was calm, you can hear him breathing heavily throughout the video. I think he was probably just frozen is shock and fear.
Killed his wife who was downstairs
É perturbador o mais terrível vídeo de todos
@@Marsi-PYes, so sad..
I've seen the video that starts at 4:32 in many compilation videos and it is always cut too short. In the original by Clem Shultz, I believe his name is, after the sound come back you hear all the debris then for about a minute, you can still hear the tornado roaring away in the distance while hearing debris like glass and who knows what tinkling in the now quiet destruction zone. Gives that video much more of a dramatic flair in my opinion. My heart goes out to 'Clem' who lost his wife this day. RIP
I was curious if he made it out of that sounded like actual hell and I'm not religious but rip to his wife❤
@@baileysellers7877 You tube video 'man records tornado that destroys his house-kills wife' to see the original full video. The most intense video of tornados that i have ever seen. A more somber video shows Clem and his neighbor, who lost her mother talking about how they had become best friends, almost made me cry. 'Fairdale tornado survivors share stories of loss' is the title of that one. Thanks for commenting to my comment.
yes i have seen (4:32......) multiple times
I'm fairly certain Clem survived that ordeal. His wife however, did not.
Scariest tornado footage I've ever seen. It's truly the stuff of nightmares.
I know this isn't supposed to be funny but 6:10 "oh gash , oh lord, OH SHIT!"
That was an F1???? Is destroyed the house!
@@bluealice1386 If I had to guess, it's cause houses in Maryland aren't built to withstand any kind of tornadic winds. Likely taken into account during the destruction survey
@@bluealice1386the Fujitsu scale is based on damage , it might of been the only house damaged
@@bluealice1386 According to NOAA's Damage Assessment Toolkit: "Complete loss of roof at the Island Time Bed and Breakfast. All walls remained standing." Which is consistent with EF1 damage. That building took a direct hit.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Starting at 4:31 is one of the most intense things i have ever seen or heard. It goes from “im filming this and i appear to be at a safe distance” to “i might lose my life” in about 1 second. I mean look at how it ramps up specifically starting at 5:15 and then it absolutely explodes at 5:40. I mean the sound alone after it goes black will haunt me for awhile
a not very fun fact: He didnt die, but unfortunately his wife did on the floor below him
I fully agree. This is the only video on this platform that perfectly "shows" the "freight train" sound and its also the only video that transmits the emotions of what it feels like when a tornado actually rolls up on you. Compare this one to the one where the storm chasers are caught in an EF3 tornado in their TIV and youll realize just how bad this one makes you feel. I get goosebumps every single time i watch this.
@@thecelestial9677my heart goes out to him for the loss of his wife
i remember hearing that he was in his attic or smth when he saw it and he knew he didn't have enough time to get everyone and everything into the cellar so he just recorded it
@@VYCRPTi mean he had enough time. He sat there and calmly watched it most definitely thinking he was going to avoid the worst. Even 12 seconds of time a real man would have tried to save his wife or family. I dont buy that explanation sorry
In the 4th one, after it goes to black, and it tears the house up as loud as it can, horrifying. Rip to Clems wife.
Did the person filming actually die in that?
@@oldmanhendo7183 No. Only their wife and neighbor.
I wonder how many people have died standing around recording dangerous situations like this instead of doing the intelligent thing to either run or take shelter…
I mean the 4th one it saved his life to be upstairs filming it because his wife did pass away from it downstairs.
I agree. Good thing is quite a few of the videos are by security cameras. Just wonder how those cameras survive such damaging winds is mind boggling enough. It’s amazing though how tornadoes can damage a structure but leave another next to it untouched. I Live in Louisville Kentucky and work on the Northeast side of the county. We just had one touch down a few days ago and I was quite lucky. I drive a small box truck delivery business and missed the storm by 30 minutes. Crossed the road I was on and did a quite a bit of damage in that area. Crossed from Indiana into the city. Wound up flipping 3 or 4 Semi trucks in its path.
@erniescott4171 yall need to get your damn graffiti under control in Louisville
@erniescott4171 you have no idea how much I love reading bub in comments... I live in Shelbyville bro relax, maybe the tornado will clean some graffiti of the I75 sign
@@jordancobb7553 Im completely fine. Not taking anything personal at all. You threw me off guard there. LOL Good to see someone that lives down the road from me. You are right though quite a bit of interesting art in the city!😆
Just watching the tornado sweep away cars in the Andover, KS footage never gets old. It's incredible footage that gives me chills every time I see it
We lost everything in the 1991 andover one. We were right off McConnell..pawnee and greenwich. Killed our neighbor and her two nieces.
Everybody gangsta till the neighbors roof peel back
I refuse to believe some of these people filming didn't die. I was legit scared for the dude around 5:25
He survived that EF4. His wife wasn't as lucky.
Like the other person said, he did survive but his wife who was downstairs died, along with her best friend and neighbor. They were the only two deaths in that town, they went everywhere each other and their children said it was fitting that they died together, likely at the same moment since their houses were so close. The dog survived though, so there's a bit of good news.
Damn. Life can be cruel sometimes 😔
How do you know this info? Also as that portion started i was like “is this bro really calming filming from a SECOND STORY balcony thing?!” I mean damn. Not good to hear that, but judging by what it looked and sounded like im happy he ended up being ok. I mean as ok as you can be when something that horrible happens to you
@@absolutelysobeast You can look it up. "Clem Schultz was capturing video of a tornado in Fairdale, Illinois out his bedroom window in April 2015 when it directly hit and destroyed his home.".
That one about 5 minutes in is HORRIFYING. The noises it makes when everything goes black…
At 43, I was in my first tornado (EF1) on 5-21-24. It was the most incredible sound...and I hope I never hear it again.
5:55 that's absolutely TERRIFYING

This is why you shouldn’t record tornadoes instead of hiding 6:16
Edit: especially near a window 7:12
That guy survived that EF-4 Fairdale tornado coming at him. Unfortunately, the house collapsed in on itself, killing his wife on the first floor in the kitchen. Also killed their neighbor who was in the house in front of the camera that disappeared into the vortex.
Well said. Even I know better than to try it as a chaser. Sure I film them, but from a safe place.
The camera at 3:05 shows just how powerful the winds can be, you can see objects hitting the ground and even the car so fast and hard that sparks erupt from them. We can also see that one second the car is there and gone the next.
7:15 thats why you dont stand near windows during a tornado
5:31 that was headed straight for him.
Pretty notorious video as the guy who was filming lost his wife in this tornado. She was a floor below. He was over 80 years old and it’s incredible he survived especially considering where he was when this occurred.
@@luffypilled Where and when was the video taken?
@@LampHatScott
It was taken by Clem Schultz in April 2015, in Illinois
I wanted to add on some more information I found out, which is that there is a video of the aftermath of this tornado and Mr. Schultz is in it. If you look up "First video of the Fairdale tornado devastation" by Brian Wruck, you can find it. Mr. Schultz appears later in the video, face bloody, and seemingly in shock (persumably after finding out his wife had died while he survived).Just looking at the video and the total devastation compared to what you can see when the tornado is heading at him is scary.
"Oh gosh...oh Lord...OH SHIT!" For some reason that had me laughing...
I love these type of video compilations, good job!
Dude, seeing the school one made me a lot more terrified of these things. Im from southern California and ive been told the closest thing well have are dust devils which do not compare at all. Since El Ñino in 2015-2016, it feels like in almost every storm, theres a tornado warning, and every other one theres a funnel cloud. All the schools there are open with all classrooms leading to the outside. Nothing is meant to protect anyone from a tornado here.
California has and can have violent tornadoes. Never think that it can't happen.
The teachers were right. If you hide under those tables you would be fine apparently.
"Oh, gosh" became
"Oh, Lord." became
"Oh, SHIT!!"
The magic trick at about 3:40- see the white car just sitting there……. (Little wave of wind)…. And it’s gone!! Having lived in Tennessee and now in Iowa for fourteen years, the destruction these storms create in such a short period of time always leaves me in awe over their power and sorrow for those that lose property and life…. 🥺
5:40 is terrible. Poor woman had to have passed. Rest in peace
Clem Schultz actually survived by a miracle. His wife died.

such an unbelievable show of power. Staggering.
Awesome, more of these please
Great video, looking forward to more
These are brave souls
They have me absolutely mesmerized!
The problem with tornados is that it is not just the physical tornado that can kill you but from the outside extreme wind, you getting hit with anything that wind touches and causes violently and quickly to move.
Yes, I would love to experience a tornado over water (waterspout if you insist), and enjoy the spin without the debris. Must be one hell of a ride that you could survive.
Most tornado related deaths are from debris.
My God. Scary stuff man. Great footage! I live in Key West Florida. Living there I see a lot of hurricanes a lot of hurricanes. I’ve been here for over 20 years. And I’ve stayed for every single hurricane. But nothing I’ve seen in any of those hurricanes can compare to what I’ve seen in this footage.
Great compilation, that sound in 5:40
Good video brother!
At 1:57 when that car is whisked away when there’s no visible view of the tornado core shows just how strong the outer edges are.
What amazes me is at 3:13, all the cars in the lot, across the field are being tossed about, like toy cars. The parking lot was quite full and after the tornado passes, it is empty.
There's literally one car...
It was the Andover Kansas EF3.
What car's? There's only 1 car in the entire lot.
Oh my GOD this it was so strong😮 3:53
That got my heart pumping! The last few were super crazy

Sometimes it's too late and all you can do is wait it out.
“Ay look it’s raining rooftops!” Last words before death
I hope the person in the fourth one is okay!
If you are talking about the one around 4:31, there is some backstory to it. According to what I heard, the guy filming had lived in the house for many years and wanted to blow away with the house. However, he ended up surviving, but his wife didn't.
oh, thats sad :(@@johnsmith5255
Clem Schultz is his name. He survived, his wife on ground level did not when the house came down.
@@johnsmith5255First part isn't even remotely true. He didn't want to "blow away with the house". House was over 100 years old and had survived many tornadoes. He assumed this one would just blow west of him.
@@christianalbanito3062 Agreed. The house was very old and didn't have a basement. He put his wife in the bathtub down stairs and covered her with a mattress (if I remember right) thinking she would be safer and went upstairs to (in my opinion) confront the Tornado with the idea it would either pass by or it would take him and not her. Unfortunately it took her and not him. Though he did get severely injured. Can look up his story. It is easily found. Clem Schultz
4:59 tornadoes that look like they're twisting in place are the worst! You don't know if it's heading away from you... or right towards you... until it's too late. And the sound!!!

All right I know that tornadoes and hurricanes are cool to watch but they can also be very dangerous that's why you need to take shelter.
