    From illustrator I always use the scale factor 1/72 and that gets me to the original size.
    My two cents, if you are going to go the route of making a body from the svg, save yourself some time, position it where you want it and then do a combine cut onto your target body. Probably faster than a project and press pull.

  • @bellacharge
    @bellacharge 8 лет назад +10

    quick question after you made the solid body why not just use the body to cut the image out using the combine feature as a cut rather than having to project all the geometry and reselect them 1 at a time.

    Thank you for this video. I'm completely new to 3d modeling, and Fusion 360 was continuously crashing with my svg file. I figured it was too big/complex, but even moving it would crash. Your tip is great...don't move it ! Edit it down in place to reduce the complexity and then convert it to a solid. Thank you for your easy to understand, short, and to the point video !

    2020 and the phrase "you wouldn't know this" still comes up regularly when talking about Fusion 360. The interface is still a nightmare.

    Once you moved the "solid" SVG model over your block you could have then extruded into your block then done the Combine option and chose to cut the model. Would have saved you from having to click all those little letters 3 times. ;)

    Amazing tutorials, many thanks! I've noticed in a few videos, you've sketched something and held a shortcut key to select only the sections you want to extrude while dragging the cursor over them (and not clicking each individually). What is the shortcut you are using?

    I use Inkscape to create complex SVGs to use in F360, I import them using a 0.2822341 scale factor to get them to the right size.

    Is there a way to scale an SVG in an X/Y value? Coming up with the right scale factor to match the size I had originally designed it, is like pulling teeth. >.

    • @boyracer1988
      @boyracer1988 4 года назад +3

      I know this is 4 years old but what you could do is start a sketch, make the box the dimensions you want your svg to be. Import the svg and then scale it up to the size of the box. That should give you the correct size you are wanting. Delete the box after and job done.

    If after selecting all of your parts of the SVG (letters, logo, etc) and create a "selection set", can you then use that selection set when working in another component? If so, this would save you a ton of time from having to reselect everything more than once. I haven't used selection sets all that much myself but I know they are in there.

    Good tips. When you import an stl to the Hobby version of F360, then import a svg label and do the extrude, I'm not getting the extruded label to combine with the base component. I've tried every which way to get it to work. Just hit my editable limit, and may have overloaded the Autodesk server, with so many redos. Been there done that, before. Edit: Figured part of it out . Have sketches that are floaties. Thinking maybe that construction is for placeholder type sketches.

    I'm still very, very new at this, but would there be some way to inset the logo once you've turned it into a solid into the part, then cut the part and then just delete the logo from it? That assumes you made the logo thickness the same as the depth on the part.
    Edit: Reading the comments I see that you can. Cool.

    struggling with a relatively easy SVG file....some of the shapes will only let me highlight pieces of the shape while other shapes I just click on....simple petal shapes surrounded by a circle. I drew up the design in autocad and converted to .svg. Why did Autodesk have to come up with a whole need language for fusion when autocad works so intuitively???????

    When I insert my SVG file

    I've been trying to import logos and whatnot from illustrator as either SVG, DXF, or DWG and all of them import the sketch and what I get is "hundreds" blocks per section of the file. Is there a way to import it as paths into a single sketch?
    If anyone knows, I'd love an answer! Thanks in advance!

    • @LogicSpeaks

      NM, I just figured it out. You start a sketch, then go "Insert" and it will insert the DXF or whatever, into one sketch file.

    Nice Fusion Friday cheers
    I recently done a SVG import used Inkscape for some text outlines and a trace operation. It did seem a bit convoluted considering some of the more complex models/operations I have done as a complete newbie to cad/cam, all I wanted to do was to type some text and have it traced onto a part ruclips.net/video/2237pJ-QHM8/видео.html and not having a preview of the scaled SVG did make it hard to scale exactly to size, but I got it done after a few test pieces, thanks again I must remember to use components more!!

    I like watching your videos but you move way too fast without explaining how you do it so I use other people to learn from. What is simple to you is confusing to your audience. For example the lack of explanation of how to reach the unfixing option and how you flipped the SVG and prime examples as to why these videos are worthless. If you are going to teach then slow it down and don't skip essential parts.
    That is constructive criticism by the way, not a troll. It's something most "experts" tend to suffer from. They may be excellent in their field but are too impatient to pass on the knowledge and then get frustrated when other people cannot catch up. Just try and remember what it was like when you started out learning and ask yourself if you have included all the knowledge to recreate your tutorial.
