One of the most beautiful F1 cars ever...
my favorit F-1 monoplace
That car just looks so clean and simple compared to today's cars
You make it sound like it's a good thing
FA it is a good thing
Angelo Basso it isnt
Today F1 cars are more aerodynamic compared to cars back in 90's & that's why they look so complex.
@@VineetKumar-js1do that's exactly why they're better imo, simple and clean
The first turbo car world champion in F1!
An iconic line (Gordon Murray), an exceptional driver (Nelson) and a fantastic (4-cylinder) engine (BMW).
I have the book of the season, what good memories😍
This is so great, I mean seeing the car being driven fast and hard. So often we see historical race cars putzing around in second gear, and this is not what they were built for. And what a friggin' handsome car Gordon Murray designed on that drawing board of his. Many people don't realize this car was conceived on paper, pencil and ruler, no computers at all were used!
What I find impressive is how nice it sounds for a 4 cylinder with a turbo. If F1 transitioned to 4 cylinders with turbos and they sounded like this, I wouldn't mind.
Spitting flames out of the exhaust is just the peak of inefficiency. I like it :D
Have you seen the size of the fuel pump on those? Lol. When I saw the engine assembly. It reminded me of a common rail fuel pump on modern diesel truck engines. I was like wtf.... lol
@@Lanse1984 Yeah, it's great isn't it!
@@mp40fan yeah smiles per gallon
Back in the days were they used fuel to keep things cooled down , Turbo F1 ,Group C , Group B , DRM all gave us crazy cars with little regards for budgets and rules. Spectacular all the way .
Would of loved to have seen these things for real in qualifying
100% designed on pen and paper by Gordon Murray on a whim and his gut feeling. The guy was a genius, for this car was not only beautiful, but fast. It ot weren't for the BMW engine breaking down so much in 1984, Piquet would have likely won the championship as well with the 53, for that year he made 9 poles, and the only two races he won (Montreal and Detroit) he won from the flag.
This car was designed 6 weeks before the season started because of the ground effect ban being introduced just before the season started
this car is SO beautiful
Real cars for real mans! No automatic shifts, big wheels, high power, bordering on insanity but, real competition, where the drivers was an constructors, engineers and resolve the races with the pure talent.
Marc Surer behind the wheel.
Always was a big fan of Nelson Piquet and Brabham. Gordon Murray created such beautiful cars and the white and blue parmalat livery looked stunning,
1.5 Liters and capable of almost 1500 HP
Yes! Almost 1hp per ccm
+Bruno Copetti Only in quali trim. The engine only lasted couple laps with that power
Gwyn Bleidd And tires as well. Basically at least half of the car used in quali was completely different compared to the one used in race
Not the one mounted on that BT52 though, but most likely the last ones, powering the BT54 and 55, in qualies version of course. I'd say around 1400 on maximum pressure
L'homme Fait Con
The Benetton was as far as I know a bit more powerful than the Brabham because of the Brabham motor position.
But thats quite irrelevant. Its like comparing the power of Nukes because you want to demolish your house
This car is the mirror of the greatest driver of the 80'S F1. Nelson Piquet, great pilot, mechanic, car maker !
ruclips.net/video/H53JTsalrGA/видео.html
The craziest 4 banger
Looks like a broad tip arrow. So beautiful
Great Nelson Piquet , great Champion
I love this car. My big cousin developed the engine in the BMW F1 team. He built a great engine and a really monster
Most beautiful single seater ever made
The BMW M10 really led a remarkable life
Boy does it move rapidly! 😨 They certainly have the right man at the wheel. 👍🏻
This car is unbelievable
My favourite f1 car 😍
Awesome look, awesome sound!
Nelson Piquet developed this beauty with Gordon. Interesting that he doesn’t get the recognition for the genius that he was. Not only a great driver but also a superb mechanic that took care of his own cars.
Yeah, Marc Surer!
That car is incredible. But,who was driving it? Miss Piquet very much, my greatest driver ever
Listening to a Gordon Murray interview they used a bmw production car block too. Incredible performance. Mind you 1500hp did only last for qualifying
Who was the pilot (lucky guy) on the day of the test?
Um dos carros mais lindos ( e potentes ) de todos os tempos da F1 - _a Flexa_.
Com ele o nosso grande Nélson Piquet foi bicampeão mundial. Inesquecível.
[One of the most beautiful (and powerful) cars of all time on F1 - _The Arrow_.
With him our great Nélson Piquet was twice world champion. Unforgettable.]
A nearly 40 year old car that looks and sounds better than the garbage that passes as F1 today. What a machine.
we need a vintage f1 simulator for ps and xbox.
But the new F1 for PS4 and Xbox one has vintage cars to play.
On PC you can download mods for games like rFactor to play with old F1 cars and race at old F1 tracks.
80s turbo era hell a lot of fun!
Boa noite meu Amigo !!!!
Com essa Máquina fantástica que nosso Grande Campeão Nelson Piquet ganhou o seu segundo título Mundial.
Época maravilhosa da Fórmula 1.
Só saudades......
Muito obrigado pelo vídeo e parabéns pelo canal.
Abraço do Brasil.......
1980's sound ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Fever still got me...that's why i kept on imagining someone put the BT52's M12/13 engine into BMW I8 with some crazy aero and drive it on the Pike's Peak...🤒🤒🤒
Interesting.. it would definitely sound much better
Very cool!
It just SOUNDS like power
The engine was developed from BMW's F2 2.0 liter, it originated from their road cars. Initially they were built from used blocks that had at least 80k km on them, later BMW aged new blocks in the race shops before building the engines.
They got "seasoned" by pissing on them if the rumor is true
The Brabham of Nelson Piquet and Gordon Murray.
And Bernie Ecclestone and Teo/Corrado Fabi also. Lots of people involved in the history of this car.
@@ShmuelWeintraub how about dipl ing Paul Rosche of bmw company. Made this engine great and put it first in bmw 2002 turbo road car. 60's. developping in small steps during lot of years to get ready and put it in brabham with hudge turbo and many blow-ups.
Parece que quanto mais passa o tempo os motores fica mais nervosos , olha esses fogos seloko
Save lots of weight, high power engine, hell yeah
Piquét- BMW POWER❣️
They should bring back chassis and engines like that (also, no fucking halo!) so that way f1 would not lose fans to indycar, dtm, wtcc, wec, etc.
Cbr Cruz And people die again eh..
Julian Duepre Deaths are not very common in F1 now. The drivers already sit so low down in the car, I don't know what adding the Halo is actually going to protect.
Ik this comment is old but the halo should stay but they need to bring in more teams and get americans interested in it.
makes you wonder what F1 would of been like now if the sport was allowed to progress
@ michael Zak: intimi telling: not drivable for human beings!
Beauty/beast...
Best i4 sounds!!!!!
oh look at that backfire
Great engine...even more amazing is the employees at BMW used to piss on the blocks to artificially age them before building them. They reckon a block that had 100,000kms was optimal for a F1 engine build
four cylinders and all that power, german engineering !
All F1 of that era were 1.5l and so Powerful. And in 1983 Nelson piquet won the pilot championship with this car,but Ferrari won the championship of constructors.so ......German engineering?
Monster car!!!!
Goooood !!! :-)) But, why didn't you give more Boost 2 it ?? :-)) Thanks 4 the video :-)
Nelson Piquet car!!!
Everyone is complaining about V6 F1 cars, but isn't this one "just" an I4 engine?
The old v6 turbos and 4 cylinder turbo's were flying bombs. Small, light, no driver aids and on the limit of, blowing apart at any second. That's what a race engine should be. Not like the muted electrical assisted buses of the current v6 era.
that's not an f1 car that's a flame thrower
Wonder if the belching fire is Marc figuring out when to get on an off the gas with a turbo. Mr. Patrese talked at Goodwood about having to get used to that.
Surer knows that engine because he has driven the Brabham for a few races and of course the Arrows BMW some seasons
BMW ftw
good
BT 52 will always Look Fast
Not really complete without the tennis ball helmet is it !? :)
Indeed, my friend.
The flames come in-between gear changes.
Its was said that the BMW Turbo engine was the most powerful ever from that era , at the time they did not have dyno that could measure the full out put so 1500 at max boost was only a rough idea , I would imagine these days they own a better dyno. They did have a bad history of blowing up the BT52 was the only BMW powered car to win the F1 drivers Championship. during one test at the Paul Ricard circuit in France, the team suffered nine engine blowups. Think only a hand full of team went down the in line 4 cylinder turbo engine root most played safe with the stronger V6 layout . Still its nice bit of History that can still be seen running today.
SpoonHam max boost was around 40 to 60 psi that record is never beatan 6 bars of boost imagine that on a old M10 engine from the 70s Family car engine it was so freakin fast nobody could keep up with it and when bosch made the ecu turbo controler boost controler nobody could catch up with it
It is a urban myth.
The reality is that it was 1,350bhp at 5.3 bar boost but only for Qualifying in 1986 those special engines would only last 4-5 laps before blowing up. Race was a different engine and that was 850-900bhp at 4.0 bar actually less than it's rivals which were 950-1000bhp in race trim.
Nelson Piquet: very first f1 champ and last champ with turbo power. Son jnr first champ ever in electric (f1) car.
@@blitsopel6485 what do you mean last champ with turbo power? Turbos are back in F1 since 2014
Brands Hatch, 1985....oh so close to a F1 victory.
Are the rear tires on this 1983 Brabham BT52 the same size as the rear tires on today's F1 cars of 2017? I know as of 2017 F1 increased the rear tires but are they as wide as they were in 1983? The rear tires for 2017 F1 cars are 405mm. I read that in the 1980's the rear tires were 18" inches wide. Not sure how that measures out in mm.
I found these measurments for the BT52 tires.
Front 23/62 - 13" Rear 40/66 x 13".
I'm not sure how to convert this to roadtire measurements.
I just found this out about 2017 F1's rear tire size... Rear - 405/670-13...

Imagine if everyone drove flat out in their classic Grand Prix cars
Tharazero1 they have to rebuild the engine anyway
+gio2812872 but people would never let other drivers drive their cars flat out. What happens if they crash it. And the reasons i think it Is being driven flat out 1. It has been restored by ex brabham mechanics and 2. It is being driven by Marc Suer who originally drove bmw powered f1 cars
das waren autos und nicht diese spielzeugdinger von heute.
from the era when you needed giant testicles to drive in F1 - stick the qualifying version of this engine in .....
1283 CV (HP) 😱
Another inline 4 from BMW ruclips.net/video/iZGdERu5y_8/видео.html
I hope F1 will switch from V6 to I4... it sounds way better
They should allow more engine configurations now that f1's run on ethanol.
And this will be nowhere near even race power of the time the car was competing! It won't be using the special fuel they had then, and the boost will be way less than maximum.
I did say maximum boost for race power, or in other words, full race boost.
And to think that engine was pulled from a E30
so much fuel is consumed for engine cooling
the flames are caused by Anti Lag System
Extra fuel gets thrown into the engine to cool the pistons, that's what the black smoke coming out of the back is.
1500 HP?
No, that was in quali in 1986. This one had 650-750.
Im miss the big popping flames out of the back of the old F1's..
More manly if you ask me.. pop bang.. now get out and walk you pesky flame ;)
Bmw has the most powerful turbo f1 in history and the highest revving v10 engine in history and the most powerful Natural aspiredet engine in history.
BMW is King for engine
But inv1983 constructor championship was won by Ferrari.......bla bla bla
Kinda sounds like a superbike
if painting in black will look like the batmobile.
so short and small compared to modern F1
It's actually 15 cm wider than today.
Just what F1 could sound like today, if it hadn't been V6s for Ferrari. So gorgeous!
pobre turbo, por eso se morian rapido.
It's cool because we know it's so powerful, but I find the looks and the sound of this car rather boring.
Erik2Ammo that's because being driven these days you don't get to hear the sudden lag become a massive expulsion of power at full throttle mid corner exit and spins the tires. watch Gerhard Berger qualifying with it in 1986 extremly thrilling
Ugliest cars of the modern era. They banned ground effects for this season, no Venturi tunnels, why you see virtually no sidepods save those little ones at the back for the radiators. Form should follow function and these things are upside down planes. When you go see them race for the first time your mind cannot comprehend the speeds in the corners, it's like you literally can't believe your eyes, you think the drivers must be suicidal. It's the downforce. That season's cars tho... they were just skateboards w/ a wing. That car is legendary because of the 4cyl turbocharged BMW M12 engine. Obviously running too rich here or it's on a rev limiter for the demonstration.
