  • @MisterWhatWhat

    Hi! Love your channel, I've been binge watching this morning =)
    So, I make candles as a hobby and I've been using a formula for calculating FO & wax ratios from another YT'ber. I only work in grams. Maybe I messed something up along the way (which is highly possible). So math is mathing like this: for a 12oz fill line w/ a 10% fragrance load I am using 309g wax & 31g FO, is this even remotely correct lol???
    Downloaded each of your worksheets and cannot wait to print & use them today.

    • @earthglow
      @earthglow  Год назад

      Hi there! Yes, you calculated this correctly, however next time I'd recommend rounding down on your fragrance and rounding up on your wax since you're already at the max load of fragrance that most waxes can hold.
      So, as you correctly calculated, a 12oz fill means that 12oz is 100% of the contents (i.e. wax and fragrance) aka 10/10. But how we want the proportions of this mixture is 10 parts wax and 1 part fragrance, so 11 parts total. 12x10/11=10.91oz wax and 1.09oz fragrance.
      In grams, this would be 310g wax and 30.9g fragrance.
      Hope the worksheet helps! It explains the same concept in a slightly different way.

    As someone that’s just starting making candles as a hobby ,this is a amazing formula! Makes it so much easier I will be using it!
    do you have a formula for dyes as well or is it the same?

    • @earthglow
      @earthglow  2 года назад +1

      Hi Ashley!! I am so glad you found this helpful. I have not made any formulas for dyes yet just because I haven’t used them much in my own candles. Thank you so much for your comment and a warm welcome to our candlemaking RUclips family. Love and light always 🌱💛

    Thanks for the vid, but i got a little confused around 4:28. When you were calculating the 90% from the wax, you used the number 6.53oz instead of the actual water amount of 6.46oz, why was that?

    • @earthglow
      @earthglow  11 месяцев назад +1

      Hi there! The wax is more dense than the water, so whatever your water weight is, you only need 90% of it to get the equivalent volume (fill) in wax.
      This actually should have been 6.46oz in the calculator and not 6.53 but regardless you will not get an exact answer but it will give you a very close ballpark to where the wax will end up.
      Since my water weighed 6.46 oz, 90% of this would be my wax weight:
      6.46oz x 0.9 = 5.81oz (rounded to the nearest hundredth). While it’s not exact, it’s pretty darn accurate!
      In this visual, I was showing how the wax and the water occupy the same volume (aka fill) in the container but because they’re different densities, their weights will be different. With candle wax, it happens to be on average 90% of the weight of water.
      If you reverse this, you can start with filling your jar with water to wherever you’d like your candle to stop, and multiply that amount by 0.9 (90%) to get the wax.
      Make sense? If not please let me know and think of another way to explain it.

    But if you were to go back in and plugs those numbers to check if they add up. your fragrance oil would actually be 9% and not ten like you were wanting. Right?

    • @Missladypimp
      @Missladypimp 9 месяцев назад

      If you divided 1.1/11.05 it gives you 9%. Then add 1.1 + 11.05 equals your total wax desired.

    • @earthglow
      @earthglow  9 месяцев назад

      @@MissladypimpHi! No, my formula and 10% Fragrance Oil Worksheet will give you 10% FO based on your wax weight. I’m not quite sure what you are doing or are confused about here. Could you please clarify what your desired fill in oz with water is?

  • @ERIKAKEMERLY2010
    @ERIKAKEMERLY2010 Год назад

    Maybe I got the 2 oz one ok here goes… 2x0.9=1.8 sooo 1.8/1.10=1.6wax and 0.16 fragrance????

    • @earthglow
      @earthglow  Год назад

      You’ve almost got it! Your fragrance is the remainder to get you to the 1.8 ounces.
      If your total is 1.8oz (this is your wax and fragrance), then
      1.8oz/1.10oz=1.65oz wax (remember to always round up on the wax).
      Then, remember total-wax=fragrance
      1.8oz-1.65oz=0.15oz fragrance.
      You’ve got this!👏👏👏
