Thank you for the honesty of saying that is not realistic to test every scent in you candle line every time you make candles! So true!
You are so welcome!
Congratulations on your sales up. May God continue to bless your business ❤
Thanks, Regina!!!
Thank you for this!!!
I needed to hear this because I thought I was crazy. I was about to close my business!
I use several waxes: Soy 10, Coconut 83 blended with 487, Maksey’s Virgin Coconut Soy. My favorite is coconut 83 blend.
Thanks for sharing, Lucky!
My favorite wax is the Luxe Soy from Sozo. I have been using it for a little over a year. I get smooth tops and almost no frosting, so far. I love your videos and want to thank you for making them. They are truly helpful.
Hi Tammey!!! I'm so glad you found a wax you love and that you find my videos helpful. Fun and helpful is the goal!! Us candle makers have to stick together!!!
After finding your video I'm so nervous! I'm quite new to candle making and just got a 10 lb bag of this wax. And I can see after pouring my 2 test candles they are not drying smooth on the top. I have been using Nature Gardens joy wax which I'm still testing. Have you had any experience with joy wax?
I’m so glad you did this video! I keep trying to make 464 work for me but I’ve had the same inconsistency issues for a while now. I just make candles for friends and family but I want them to be as good as I can make them. I’ve learned so much from you ! Love your videos! Personally, I use #7, #3 and coco apricot crème with great results!❤
Hi Paula!!! I'm so glad you enjoy these videos. Fun and helpful is the goal always--us candle makers have to stick together!! So glad No 7 and No 3 are working well for you. They're excellent waxes.
I did use your wax blend and I like it
I’m so glad, Melanie! Definitely has its pros and cons like any wax blend :)
Hi Allen I've been using the B/W brand (Blended Wax) from Aztec, so far I like it
Hi Damion!! That's awesome you found a wax you love.
I love ceda serica! I’ve tested other waxes but I always go back to coconut apricot wax.
It’s so good! Have you tried it with wood wicks yet?
I am the same..ive tried several parasoy, soy, but always go back to Ceda Serica...
You mix it with beeswax?
Thanks!
aww thanks Paula!!!
Slowly switching to C3. Found the cold and hot throw is fantastic plus 12 hour cure time is a bounce is a major bounce in Crunch. Testing, wicking, and replacing one scent at time so I don't get overwhelmed.
hope you have a good experience with this wax!
@@earthglow thank you, so far it has been great just a long process to switch over all my scents and sizes which I know you know how that goes. 🥰🙂💞
Love all your tips... thank you! What wax do you recommend for pillar candles?
Thank you for sharing your experience. Initially, I believed the issue lied with me, but you accurately pinpointed it. The 464 wax lacks consistency 🫢 as I found myself continuously testing whenever I crafted a candle. I mistakenly attributed the problem to the fragrance oil (FO). Interestingly, even when using the same fragrance oil for different batches, the resulting candles varied in terms of the strength of their hot throw.
yup. that's the crux of the problem with that wax. it was good for me for about 3 years but this last year, it seems to be really dodgy from batch to batch (like you say, even when using oils you know to perform well with it), and i just cannot trust it.
Can’t wait for the wax testing videos! I got a 5lbs of #7 from 16/17 and that was great, but the shipping to the east coast is too much.
Ooh yikes. Have you checked out Hive and Honey? They carry this wax as well and are located in Michigan so shipping might be cheaper. They sell it as Soy Bliss/CB2.
@@earthglow I will have to check it out. Thank you Allen!
Hello Allen , loved your video, Ty for info. I’m trying rite now joy wax from natures garden it works really great and ht is good. Just in case you want to try it. Love you
I’m so glad this is working well for you, Ivan!
Allen, first I just want to say I LOVE your channel, you are so open and honest and your reviews are incredibly intuitive and insightful. I do have a question however, can you please describe specifically some of the inconsistencies you're experiencing with 464? I'm new to candlemaking and I'm wondering if some of the occasional issues I'm having are me, or the wax. Thank you!
hi buck! It's the hot throw that i found really inconsistent this past year. I hope this helps!
I've given up 464 as well after 2 years. currently seeking my perfect wax. I tried mixing 464 with another wax and the results looked amazing however when I went to burn it, there was this weird build up in the center of the candle surrounding the wick. looked exactly like cottage cheese. once the candle cooled the smooth wax would form around the edges of the candle and the cottage cheese would form surrounding the wick. it literally appeared as of the two separated.. but the initial pour was smooth and fantastic...
yup! that is typical with this wax and drives many a little crazy!
I have been making candles since 2005. I strictly make them for myself, and periodically give them away. I am always testing new things and am currently playing with 4636 and 6006. I still play with my original blended wax, 415 and beeswax. Sometimes I add a little coconut oil in it. But the 415 and beeswax has always given me a nice soy candle with smooth tops and good throw.
That’s excellent! Whatever the combination is that works for you, stick with it. 👏👏👏
I would like to know what kind of deco is on top of your mistletoe candle wax? It is so pretty. I have been tempted to try cut glass, will that be okay to use to sprinkle a little on the top?
I have this soy wax and I am thinking about changing it for kerasoy or for coconut wax, because my wax when pouring the consistency is grainy
Wow I'm shocked! I don't make the volume you do but 464 has been very consistent with me . I get mine from Candle Science... I've also used Ceda Serica from Midwest and that is very nice and also consitent but $$
Yes, definitely more expensive!! So glad 464 has been working for you well. Got to do whatever works best for you and your biz!
Hi I’m making all the candles for my daughters wedding. Unsented long burn what do I use. Help!
😊
Can you share a link to the stick thermometer that you mentioned in your video?
Would love you to do a review on Natures gardens joy wax it's a mix basket 🧺 of reviews ! ❤
The reason I ask is paraffin, but they label as food grade paraffin does that make it good!? Ty
Hello!! From the beginning, I've made my own beeswax, coconut blend, and no issues so far. I dont sell just for myself, friends.and.family.
That's wonderful, Lisette!!! Love all three of these waxes together.
@@earthglow I don't use soy or paraffin
Did you ever try Virginia candle supply? I actually use their 464 for wax melts! I mix with a little palm blend. Get phenomenal results.
So 464 wax is all from the Golden Brands. Our wholesalers actually all get it from the same source. I’m glad you get good results!
Palm oil destroys rainforests.
For candles per 1lb of wax, I have been using 464 at 10 0z. And glass palm at 6 oz. For a pound of wax
Thanks for sharing, Mary!
Same!
I was obsessively waiting for this video after I saw your post about not using it anymore! That opening statement did not disappoint! I was like "ohhhh we getting the tea today!" 😆🍵🐸
Ha ha ha!!! I’m so glad this didn’t disappoint :)
Finally someone that is using common sense. I find it so costly to have to constantly test a dozen candles EVERY time. If something works I want to have fun making them over again without assuming future problems and wasting wax, wicks and vessels every time. I agree here and there. Everyone who constantly says test test test ... You scared me enough that I didnt want to even try. Thank you.
Well, that’s just been my experience and I know a few other candle makers on here like Wade Thomas and Jeff Standley have agreed.
Hi Allen, I am using your blend. My husband is a beekeeper and we have an abundance of beeswax. The blend helps me tie in with our hive products. I have had a few issues with hot throw recently. What soy do you recommend to try in its place of the blend? Thank you 😍
Hi there! Are you asking what other soy waxes to use in place of 464? This blend, like any other, needs to be rigorously tested with each oil and because it contains a substantial amount of soy, it will be hit or miss with hot throw on most oils. The type of beeswax you’re using also could have a play in your hot throw. Your wicking also certainly would. There are many variables!
Hi Allen, thanks so much for sharing your experience honestly! Not sure of you've answered this question before, but have you tried using freedom soy wax, because i heard it's comparable to gw464. can it also be blended it with beeswax?
Hi there! I do not have experience with this wax, so I cannot speak on it. Sorry about that!!!
I just found your 464 and beeswax recipe and now I'm here lol dang
did ya watch the full video? i do still use my blends...
I’ve given up on wickin 464 now I’m just using it for wickless 😂
Hi Allen, just wondering so which soy wax you are replacing 464 soy with? Also if you are considering Soybliss or Makesy's soy wax to replace the 464, what is your opinion on the paraffin content they have? I try to stay away from anything paraffin, even if they say "food-grade" which is just a marketing term anyways, it's still not natural. Thanks!
Hi Dyanna!! Did you watch the video all the way through? I answered this question near the end at 6:48. Love and light!
@@destinyhope101 Yes for sure I already do not use any phthalates plus more, and all my fragrances are clean... But I still have some concerns about Paraffin for sensitive groups. I looked at the blog you referenced, and honestly it does not list any reputable sources. But thank you for the reply 🙏
@@earthglow Thank you for your response, I did look again and I was under the impression you were removing 464, but I see that's it's a blended variation with it. Thanks again for sharing I do appreciate all your videos! 🤍
Hi Allen, one more follow-up question: have you worked with 454 wax? It's pure coco-soy and I was wondering how you think it compares to 464 :)
Im just curious with 464 at what temperature were you adding the fragrance? and yes Im still watching your video so maybe you said it. I have heard hardcore 464 users say to put the fragrance in at a little below 160 bc at 180 ish the fragrance is burning off.
Hi Abe! I have always added fragrance at 185, per manufacturer and supplier's recommendation. The fragrance will not burn off at this temp--this is a myth. It's important to add the fragrance at this temp so that it properly binds to the wax. Thanks for your comment!
@@earthglow Yes I know they recommend it but I know people that use the wax for years and tell me the best results were always pouring at lower temperatures. Well that is what was found at least. Maybe test out a batch and compare the hot throw results.
I tried your formual but didnt realize until after it was made that i used pure beeswax and regular cooking coconut oil. I am not sure if this changes it alot. I checked the links and noticed you used refined beeswax and some other kind of coconut oil.
Hi there! I do use white beeswax, although I would not consider this refined. There are certainly nuances though from one supplier to another with beeswax, and I have found that I get the best results with the supplier I purchase from.
I use 464, but you definitely have to mix it with another wax. I mix with coconut soy 454.
Ooh neat! Do you prefer a 50/50?
Hi Alan - curious about your experience with GB 454?
Hi Brenna! I did purchase some of this wax but haven’t gotten around to testing it yet in all honesty. Hopefully soon!!
I believe if 464 Soy Wax didn't have soy additives like the 444 Soy Wax excludes, you would get better results dependent upon your method. Also, the wood wicks are also inconsistent. I have had cotton wicks fail, wood wicks fail, it really depends on the batch and the source they manufactured from.
Thanks for your comment. The additives in 464 are supposed to help with hot throw. Yup, definitely important to do your own testing!
@@earthglow interesting! I didn’t know the additives helped with hot throw. Good to know. Thanks.
Hey Allen I wanna try and make a candle just for my home but don’t have the money to keep playing with wax’s but what one would you say to try for a beginner
Hi LeeLee! I’d recommend checking out Soy Bliss or Ceda Serica Coconut Apricot Crème! Congrats to you 🌱
@@earthglow okay thanks for your reply
@@earthglow okay thanks
I did have issues with 464 and ended up switching because of continuing to use additives and then I was like - wait, I can do better.
Yup, I think this one on its own just doesn’t cut it but when the batch is good, that’s a different story in my opinion!
Hi im planning om getting 444 soy, wpuld you recommend it?
Hi there! I could not recommend this wax as I have never used it but I have used similar waxes like 464 soy and have found a lot of batch inconsistency in the last year. I would no longer recommend this wax.
hey allen so i started to use american soy bead wax. try it out
How neat! Where did you get it from?

Have you got good results from it? I want to try it
@@shanaeyoung30 yes I have

Hi Allen 💟
Soy Bliss #7 is my Jam☺️ I love everything about 1617❤️
PeAcE
@@val-bm3so Such a great company! I love supporting them and using their products as well.
I find Soy Bliss burns quickly. Since I switched from Soy10 to Soy Bliss (No.7), my burn times have decreased significantly.
@@patriciarodriguez7732 I have not noticed that Soy Bliss burns quicker than Soy 10. It could also depend on your wicking. Which wick series are you using?
FREEDOM SOY WAX ❤
I wonder why you wouldnt just use coconut soy wax instead of blending your own?
I enjoy formulating my own blends! I would recommend using waxes in your own candle making though that are widely reviewed and accessible rather than my formulations, however.
I LOVE hearts and crafts soy wax on Amazon, they aren't 444 or 464, its their own wax
It s not a good wax ????
Soy bliss is from 16/17 right ?
Yes, that is where I got mine but several other suppliers carry it as well.
I didn’t know other suppliers carried Soy Bliss/No. 7. I thought this wax was exclusive to 16/17. Would you please share a few of the other suppliers of this wax? Thank you!
@@patriciarodriguez7732 to my knowledge, Hive and Honey Candle Co and Northwood Distributing and Porter Candle Supply all carry it. They sell it under the name Soy Bliss or CB2.
I wonder what happened. AAK acquired the company over 10 years ago. I guess like everything else companies sourced the ingredients from a cheaper manufacturer. Btw I love science as well. I’m that person the works in the college science labs running around telling everyone to put their goggles on. 😂 well the students in the core science classes anyway.
Hi Tracy! Yep, I think it’s hard to say. I wondered if the crops just varied a bit from time to time. Good for you!! Make sure those students stay safe!👍🏻🌱💛
You are so beautiful ❤
I thought you were going to say you switched to soy 10. 😂😂😂
It’s a great wax, but nope!
Married to soy boy😂 That sounded kind of like a rap
What are your thoughts on soy 10 when u tested?
Hi Lena! This wax has been easy to use but a bit difficult wicking in my experience. I am still testing it. Have you seen my video on this one?
@@earthglow not yet about to check it out!
I’m surprised it took u this long to realize that 464 if pure trashhhh 😂
Ha ha!!! What wax is your favorite?
