I hope you guys enjoyed my new video! Be sure to follow me on twitter (twitter.com/jswoodhams) and Instagram (instagram.com/jswoodhams) to see the new photos from this camera when I post them! Do you have a Canon EOS film camera? Which do you use? Let me know in the comments!
A nice selection of photographs from the old EOS 5. Just one point Jack if I may, it is not pronounced E.O.S, its EOS which is the name of the goddess of the dawn in the old Greek mythology. Camera manufacturers use these mythological names for their cameras and lenses from time to time, like Helios which was the name of the Sun God in the old Greek mythology. Hope I was not being too pedantic.
I have the A2 and love it. I'm going to adapt some of my vintage m42, md and nikon glass on it see how they go. Glad to see others enjoying this camera too
Nice camera and I totally agree, it is fun to use these old semi professional / advanced amateur film cameras. I picked up a mint EOS 33v a while ago and use it for B&W landscape and architecture photography.
Hi! would you have a solution for a sticky mirror. I have not used my EOS 5 for a long time now and when I tried it this morning, with the lens on, the mirror gets longer than usual to go back into position. When I take the lens out, it does not stick. I would be happy for some advice =)
@@JackWoodhams It is so weird. I attached the original lens (28-105 Ultrasonic) that has come with it when I bought it from a flea market and the mirror was sticking, but I tried two Samyang lenses and the mirror does not stick. Also last month, I attached a Nikkor 105 f2.5 with a Canon metal adaptor to it but did not put in the battery of the camera. Do you think that altered the mirror quite a bit?
@@JackWoodhams It's alright =) I decided to use the lenses that allows the mirror to swing freely. I just wanted to see how the 105mm f2.8 nikkor pre-ais would look in film. I guess I will have to buy a Nikon SLR film cam. thanks
I've been debating between an AE-1 and EOS 5. I've been leaning towards the EOS 5 for the same reasons you talk about, that I'd be able to use my EF lenses. However, I actually think you've convinced me on the AE-1. If I'm going to be shooting film, I probably want the vintage look that comes along with old glass.
Worth mentioning my AE-1 has some really bad dust issues and needs a really thorough clean. You can also get FD and old vintage glass eith EF adapters pretty much anywhere. I'd personally get the more modern camera as it has some things you'll probably really appreciate.
@Pete Melon Let's be honest, the biggest difference is how the cameras look. If I'm going to shoot with a film camera, I want it to look like I'm shooting with a film camera. I'm shallow like that.
To me one of the reasons to choose Canon over other brands is the ability to use EF lenses on modern state of the art mirrorless cameras like an R3, a huge range of DSLRs, and even film cameras like this. Yes the RF camera will need an adapter, but it will autofocus that EF lens from the late 80s as good or better than any of the canon cameras that came before it.
@@DeputyNordburg some truth to this. However the newer RF lenses or any other brands own modern lenses (Sony etc) will make the original EF lenses look like relics - not to mention most are loud and clunky
@@JackWoodhams Well the RF lenses are made by Canon, so I'm not sure how that is a "however" kind of thing. They do work quite well with the RF cameras I mentioned. And the RF big whites being literally the same lenses as the EFs they replaced. The 100-300 2.8 not being as sharp as the 300mm f2.8 EF II. Things like that? It's a mixed bag. I'll keep my 200mm f1.8. Still nothing better on the market.
@@DeputyNordburg it's a however in the sense of "yes you can use old EF lenses, however they won't be as quick, responsive or sharp as new RF lenses." 😀
This is the problem when young youtubers review cameras that are older than they are, he didn't so much as mention what the EOS 5 is all about! It famously featured Eye-Controlled Focusing as found in fighter jets. Look at any of those 5 focusing points and half press the shutter.

i realize I am quite randomly asking but does anyone know of a good website to stream new series online?
@Zane Dexter meh lately I've been using flixportal. just search on google after it:D -bronson
@Bronson Vance thanks, I went there and it seems like a nice service :) I really appreciate it!
@Zane Dexter You are welcome :)

Absolutely loved this video, easy sub. Just picked up an A2E this week and looking forward to using it! Also beautiful pc build
Love the shots from this!
Thanks so much Jade, I can't wait to see the portraits!
Nice video! The Canon A-series cameras do have more metal but the top covers are plastic (only the F-series had metal tops during that time).
a-1 and ae-1 all both all metal bodies, including 'the tops'.

Found this all very helpful! I was wondering I have a canon eos a2, would I need an adapter to put an FD lens on it?
I just picked up one of these last week at a charity shop along with a Canon EOS 3000 and a Nikon F50. The EOS 5 cost £1 and the other 2 cost £2!
Wow that's a good buy! Congrats! Cost me much more 🤣
Does it have pop up flash ??

How much does it currently cost? I have one and I want to sell it
No idea check eBay for prices
I'd like to ask, can you use a shutter release cable with the EOS5?
Don't think so, I think you need the grip.
Yes you can, it’s an electronic shutter release cable. Canon remote switch 60 T3 is the release cable for this camera. 👍
No grip needed, the release port is on the shutter button side of the camera under the film rewind button.
@@nathankovarskis Thank you for this reply =) I'll try to find myself this electronic switch.
