Great band. Great song. Great vocalist. Bad mix - sorry. Lead guitar vamps during verses should not ride on top of the vocal. Sounds like it was triggering a mix bus compressor, and this was depressing the vocal deep into the mix every time he played. The lower end of Soph's range was lost in the mix. Turning the vocal mic and vocalist 180 degrees would help, putting the dead side of the mic towards the drums and amps. A smaller pop screen would let her get closer to the mic, improving isolation and adding depth to her voice via proximity effect. I know it's harder to photograph that way with one camera, but it is what it is. A few feet more distance away from the band wouldn't hurt either. Kudos to Soph for NOT using headphones, and for the great squealing vamp after verse 2! Lots of life there, and spot-on pitch. The whole band did a great job.

Fair enough! Thanks for the constructive criticism and kind words towards our students! I'm certainly no professional mix engineer, just a music instructor trying to showcase our students to the best of my ability. Your feedback will totally be considered for our next round of songs. Thanks!

@@schoolofrockcoppell I'm glad you took it in the spirit in which it was meant. I am continually impressed by the amazing talent these kids have, and by the maturity of their musicianship at such young ages.
BTW, there are clip-on pop screens that will fit U-47 clones. They are usually three-stage units. They will dull the highs just a tad, but that's a simple EQ adjustment. Getting a vocalist closer to the mic when in the room with the band makes all the difference. Keep up the great work, everybody!
