  • Today I am showing you my DIY motor for my Old Town Pedal Drive Kayak. I took and old transom trolling motor I've had for many years and made it fit on my kayak! This makes a huge different especially for fishing tournaments. I am able to cover a lot more water! Hope this helps anyone when trying to figure out how to mount a trolling motor to their kayak.

    Nice rigging. 13:07 You mentioned power draw…. Have you looked into maybe adding a Harmnee HMSC07D or similar PWM controller to make your DC trolling motor operate more efficient?

      @@jake_stem_fishing You said that there are only two wires coming out of the motor, what do white and yellow do? Thanks!

      @@letun3481 this motor is 10+ years old so it only has red and black going into the shaft down to the motor. White and yellow not sure what they could be for. They go down to the head of the trolling motor?

      @@jake_stem_fishing Yes, new motors have two additional wires going out of the shaft, yellow and white 😳

    Have you thought of building a pulse width modulator for the trolling motor. With it, you leave the head turned on to the highest setting and can fine tune the speeds manually. From standstill to top speed. Also has reverse without having to turn the handle. Flip a switch and she's in reverse.

    • @jake_stem_fishing
      @jake_stem_fishing  10 месяцев назад +2

      No I haven’t but for reverse I’d have to lock the motor in. For rivers and honestly everywhere I like that it kicks up if I hit something.

    Nice build. I would scrap that plug, though. Mine, on my Xi3 made about 15 trips before it finally gave out.

      Yeah I’ve heard guys I think this older motor doesn’t take as much juice. Been 40+ trips no issues

    You were at the sheetz in Duncanon about a week or 2 ago. My buddy and i were on our way to Raystown with our yaks, I was at the pump on the otherside of you and was wondering what the deal was with the motor head being in the spot you have it. Very cool. Can you do a video on your rod tubes? That's the 1 thing my trailer setup is still lacking

    How low do you have it? I want to make sure I have it set low enough

    • @jake_stem_fishing
      @jake_stem_fishing  8 месяцев назад +1

      I can adjust it I try to get it high enough to almost be out of the water but not losing any speed. For shallow running on rivers. But I can drop it lower if needed. It’s not a set height

      @@jake_stem_fishing ok cool. How hard is it to lower and raise on the water?

    • @jake_stem_fishing
      @jake_stem_fishing  8 месяцев назад +1

      @@user-yt9bz6tr2t super easy but I have to get out of the kayak to reach it. If you see in the video where the diy welded pin goes. I just loosen that clamp and can lower and raise the motor that way. Super easy! If I hit a log or something it might turn the motor but I just use my paddle with the motor raised to tap it back to straight forward position

      @@user-yt9bz6tr2t yea I had this motor sitting around for 8 years inside from a jon boat I used to have. NK-180 is a 24 volt system too if I ever replaced this I’d have to go to something like an Xi3.
