    I’ve been through a major hurricane. The aftermath of a major hurricane is what I call “the time of patience.” The aftermath of a major hurricane is an experience where you will learn firsthand why patience is considered a virtue in life.
    You’re going to have to be patient! You need to remember that there’s a lot of frustrating things going on that are mostly beyond people’s control. So there’s no point getting angry. Remember to be polite and courteous with others, because many people around you are going through the same horrible experience that you’re going through. Be really patient with insurance companies, because all that can take months to sort out. Also, be patient with repair crews, utility crew, and contractors. Repair crews and contractors are normally booked out for many months after a bad storm hits an area. Those crews are working their butts off after a bad storm. So be real patient and kind with those crews too.

      I can only imagine the pensioners who were expecting pension checks yesterday. :p Yeah, there are still many in Florida that want paper over electronic; and they are likely being very aggressive with pension call centers. :p (Yeah, just retired from one and I KNOW how unhappy pensioners can be if they don't have them first of the month money.)

      After Charley, Port Charlotte came back, and better than before. I lived in Cape Coral then, and was working at the Pink Shell on Ft Myers Beach. I then moved to Ft Myers. Now I live in Winter Haven. I saw Port Charlotte after Charley - seeing the footage of the destruction on FMB, the causeway and the surrounding area, it doesn’t seem real. I still have family and friends in that area. This is going to be a long tough recovery.

    • @JelMain
      @JelMain 2 года назад +3

      The electricity companies are raking it in yet will not bury their cables. Hint: you lay UPVC pipes, and thread the cables through. The cost is the same as these 1880s Bell power poles. The County keeps track of them, and before you can dig up the sidewalk, the surveyor's office paints where they are.
      When you rebuild, rebuild in steel with insulated double-walled brick.

    This rant goes out to florida and everyone on the east coast being hit by the hurricane;
    Hopefully now my feelings of liberty our mutual. You know the knot in your stomach your feeling as you watch and experience a life changing disaster? The burning like you just ate a softball and it wont digest? Now imagine that stress every single day of your working life since 2005. Imagine being tricked into breaking your back for a sincere move and opportunity with your gf, only to have yet another mafia group fleece me as well as the rehab games of noise making continuing by elders who had it way easier. Imagine going a week without power and the power company moving the goalposts to try to shut it off repeatedly, along with other utilities. Imagine having a car with a full lifetime warranty the local mob mechanics break and dont honor, demand payment on under extortion of arrest. Imagine an angry innefficient politicized food stamp and energy assistance offices losing your packets and not being able to eat everyday. Again. That is why i prayed for this hurricane. Now when you are sore with a hurt back and necks after the cleanup. We may feel about the same. Again. Its why i refuse to assist and i truly think with the job opportunities as well as housing opportunities that nobody millenial or younger should assist until a new deal is structured. Across all emt paramedic fema firefighting essential services. How dare you call us entitled.

I have a hard time having sympathy for people that were given notice, DAYS IN ADVANCE, to evacuate yet they didn't. I live in FL. We went through Michael and Sally. We evacuated when told to. Michael was devastating as a Cat 5. There are many long time Floridians that dismiss these hurricanes and say things like, "We survived Irma, we can survive Ian." There were tourists staying in Ft Myers that didn't take Ian hurricane seriously because locals downplayed it. To Floridians that do this, STOP IT. Lives are at stake, even your own. You put other lives on the line when you make the foolish choices that you do.

      Takes money and resources to leave. Not everyone has either of those. And this wasn't forcast days in advance. This had been forcast to hit near the panhandle with a slight possibility of turning early toward Tampa. And ALL models said this would hit as a weakened cat 1. So where should they have gone? North, where it was predicted to hit, south where it was already hitting? Maybe east where it crossed and flooded. I'm glad you were able to leave. God bless. Stay safe. But show some empathy and understanding for those that don't have the same resources you have. This isn't always a matter of stubborness, sometimes it's the matter of poverty.

      Some ppl cannot afford to leave, maybe YOU and others should stop being so presumptuous and judgmental? We are all on our own journeys, help other s when you can without preconceptions notions. Life’s short ~ be kind to one another and help your neighbors, friends and family. It doesn’t cost a dime to be kind and have compassion ❤

      @@bukboefidun9096 Twelve hours in bumper to bumper traffic isn't a lot of time. Native Floridian, by the way, 4th generation Floridian. My family's been there for them all. I can totaly understand why 12 hours, at the end of the month when the money is gone, if your elderly or disabled, can be an insurmountable task.
