As an ex competitive swimmer I can totally support this! The peace and quiet of being in the pool where all you need to think about is your training set, you can just totally shut yourself off to the world in a way that jogging or cycling doesn't allow! Not to mention the endorphins that come with it and the sense of accomplishment at the end of a hard session, it's something to feel good about! 10000% encourage anyone to go to their local pool and get some lengths in!
Allot of meditation requires focusing on your breathing and blocking out all other thoughts. These are things you do and learn to master while swimming. In a sense swimming is a meditation where body becomes one with the water.
I have a heart condition and can’t really practice much other types of sport. However I recently learned swimming and I can say that I feel good every time I end the sessions, I don’t feel as depressed anymore these days (I’ve been having depression for years).
Running definitely gets me in the zone and a runners high feels amazing. A pool workout is much more relaxing and you don’t get sweaty. I like swimming slightly more.
Swimming is the only "workout" i stick with. Lifting gets boring and running does not physically feel good. yoga is too slow and cycling is too inconvenient lol swimming for life
This does of course assume you can already swim to achieve these alleged benefits. I'm 62 & a non swimmer. Having taken lessons in the past I can attest to that badly affecting my mental health due to the stress of trying (& failing) to learn. Damned if I do, damned it I don't !
It took me about 3 months to learn. No lessons, just a few you tube clips. Once you get the breathing right it's an amazing exercise. I'd still rather play football and dance but it's great to have in your locker. I do it 4 times a week.
Its okay for these swimming people to go on about how good swimming is. Its not if you haven't got a pool near you where you can swim. Thats if you know how.
Of course not....what if someone didn't know how to swim....??? Does it mean he or she has a permanent mental health issue?? Jogging or walking is one big help to anyone who suffered depression...or just simply talking to someone
Just like Jogging or Walking or Talking someone has to learn how to do this task and what you are implying is because we all know how to jog, walk or talk we should stick with what we already know. But what you lack ignorance is if you learned how to swim you could add another skill to your brain thus differentiate between 4 different types of alternative methods to helping somebody with their mental health issues. Also swimming can be a social activity or even a swimming party. You lack so much ignorance friend. Good Luck
@@FA--X01 you know, some of us can't afford to pay a swim trainer to teach us how to swim...or there is no swimming pool nearby to our place...if there's a swimming pool,we need to pay for it....
@@elizabetharmada5335 you're lack of ignorance is still showing. Looking for excuses "not having enough money" in case you didn't know there are many programs that teach you swimming for free.
@@FA--X01 probably in your country,,swimming lesson is available for free....not in our place....maybe,some parts of my country...but,definitely there's no free swimming lesson in our place...
I think the point of this is saying that swimming does help, but it isn't literally the only thing on the planet that helps... physical activity in general can help, be it gym, jogging, cycling, tennis, whatever.... all it is saying is that swimming in particular with being in the water is quite tranquil and relaxing in comparison to going for a bike ride through busy town centre traffic etc etc

You will feel the freedom and all your worry go away with every stroke you take
10 million pound would improve mine
Cycling can . That's why more people are doing because they realise it works (also doesn't make you late for work like car does) .
Most exercise helps,

Find a pool with a uniform depth of 1.2 metres, and play ☺️
Get in where you can touch and use your arms. I swim/walk in a lake and it helps
Find a pool that entry is affordable
How I agree with you
I got so stressed trying to learn I gave up in the end and have never bothered since.
