    Depression is an illness that does not go away even with medication. The medicine just control it. We (depressed people) have to accept it and look for the upside of it. Generally speaking, most depressed people are gifted. Let's focus on our strengths and keep going in life. My advice to every depressed person: don't open to your colleagues and friends about your depression because if they know they will look at you differently and this by itself will reinforce you depression. Try to find nutural supplements as treatment and keep the medication as a last resort. Yes we can live happily but our happiness is defined in other way. Our happiness is to fight and defeat our illness in a life time battle. Good luck to all of us!

      I am in the final stages of coming off a ton of medication that I have been on for 20 years. After all the pharmaceutical info I decided I needed to get off of them.. said I had bipolar when I went through a divorce. Over 20 years they have just kept increasing mgs. I am now what I feel in major withdrawal and I don’t have any control right now. I don’t know how to handle it.

      My experience. AD makes frontal lobe syndrom. This increase depression.

    As someone who has been diagnosed with extreme depression when I was younger, I have tried multiple medications, and none really helped. However I have found a few ways to maintain it even without the medication.
    Normally the biggest thing I can think of to help keep depression at bay is to keep your mind occupied. The more time your mind is occupied the less it can have a chance to attack with depression. My ways of doing that is either gaming, or drawing. two things i can easily get lost into and just forget about things on my mind. Another way to keep your mind active is to listen to music. I find classical to be the best here, piano music personally is one of the fastest/best ways to calm almost any mood im in.
    Also one final thing to keep in mind, as mentioned in other comments, depression will always come back to haunt those with it. You can do everything right, everything just as you have been, but there will be those days you just cant be bothered with anything. Also, depression masks itself in other emotions, most of the time when im depressed, I just want to sleep, I dont get hungry, i dont feel motivated to do anything, i just want to sleep and be left alone. other times, it shows itself to me as a need to feel social because i feel lonely. Not every tactic works for every person, as they say "to each their own" we just have to find out what works best for us as an inividual.

      Was searching a lot of videos to find the right one. And I saw your message here. I’m thinking May be just this , will help my daughter. Though she says she is depressed and needs treatment, I being her mom and knowing her for 23 years, I do not think she is - may be at times or occasionally, depending on the circumstances that make her heavily sad and upset ( but we cannot term it as depression I guess)
      I’m planning to give her these meds that has helped you. Do we take them all , or is it a pill that has it all ?? Pls help and advice me.

      I don't believe Depression is a permanent issue.

    Information and education helps a lot. There's a big stigma around depression. When you say you don't want to live any more people often tell you to shut up and you shouldn't talk about it. That's a sader side of having it.

      Yeah, but you are also responsible of not being a burden to your friends, with your depression. Like, I mean, of course your friends are a bit responsible for your health in a friendship, but you are the only one, who can fight depression. I mean, I do not wanna sound rude, but it is never good to (belasten) your friends with your mental illnesses

    This is super helpful I have struggled with depression for years now and the best I felt was 2 years ago when I had a stable comfy well paying job, I moved out of my abusive parents home with my sister, I picked up meditation and started lifting weights and running I gained healthy weight and felt really good however I stopped doing all that and work in a very stressful job, and now I want to pick my routines back up because these things really made a difference in my day to day life.

    I treated my depression by correcting my deficiencies - iron, b12, Vit D. Add complex, zinc, magnesium . Obviously eat clean, sleep well and exercise a few days a week.

    Wow, this is so good! You are very clear and totally convinced me to check my mood. I think i have recently experienced a mild episode of depression, but because of apathy and fear that i could find a therapist that doesn't worth the time and the money, i still didn't look for one. But i definetly know that i shuld try to fix things now that my mood allows it rather then when i'm stick with another episode, damn it. By the way, thanks a lot :)

      This is glorious, I have been researching "non drug therapy for depression" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Hanincoln Nanlivia Framework - (do a search on google ) ? Ive heard some decent things about it and my buddy got excellent success with it.

    Everyone needs to feel cared for and have a real purpose in their human journey. More and more people don’t feel cared for. The problems of this world seem insurmountable at times. Many people feel that things are becoming worse each year. There seems to be so little common sense these days. Hardly anything makes sense anymore. So how do we help someone who is getting overwhelmed by all the challenges and problems in this world? We need to look at the prevailing philosophy of life of most people in this world. They feel: "The world is for my enjoyment. That is my purpose of being here. The more I enjoy the world, the happier I will be." It is crucial that we teach the young generation to become less self-centered, not more. The more someone becomes self-centered, the more they are at risk of feeling without purpose, empty and depressed.

Moody and stubborn behaviour brings lots fear in life. Cut down desire only grateful. Cut down sugar and eat fruit and vegetables daily. Past is jail. Mistakes happened just forgive yourself and others builds up happiness in heart. Lack of religious knowledge depression comes in life so read religious scriptures or watch positive thoughts videos it builds up happiness in heart. Be kind be honest be grateful

    I began an eating disorder without even realizing what I was doing😔 my parents have no idea i have depression because all I do is fake a smile, I’m seeing a therapist now but thank you for this video! 🙂

      I have depression to and my family members or anyone don't know either and I can't even fake a smile but my family don't even notice it and I'm 13 so I can't pay for a doctor and If I told them they Will think I am joking your story matches with mine your lucky u can see a doctor and for your food dis order at our house we have a lot of food but nobody even notice I don't even eat in days but nobody even notice u should be greatful l wish u get over it

    Love your explanation Dr Byrne! I am on medication for OCD, Anxiety and Depression. I’ve wanted so badly not to be on it but realize I might need to be on it a long time (possibly for life) and that’s been hard to accept. One Psychiatrist I consulted with said I would probably need it for life and that was hard to accept and hear. I have learned though alot of CBT techniques and coping strategies to manage my Depression and Anxiety. I have Autism Spectrum Disorder which I believe feeds some of my OCD and anxiety symptoms. I do wish I could somehow manage without it but don’t know if it’s possible unless God makes a way for me to do that.

      FIRST of all try this: learn to look at everything without additional emotional "coloring" (that is a remedy for all 3). OCD seems hard but in fact it is really stupid and laughable condition, when you look it from outside. Anxiety is your inner child. Teach that child that you are grown man now, that you are strong. Nothing to fear, nothing to worry, really. LITERALLY: Let it be and let it go - just your stupid thoughts and constructions. I know, it's maybe hard for you now but it's that simple. With some practice you'll get over it.

    Psilocybin containing mushrooms saved my life . The drastically reduced my benzodiazepine withdrawal allowing me to quite illicit pill addiction after three years of heavy daily use before it would had became medically dangerous to quit . It has also helped me survive depression .

      The Trips I've been having have really helped me a lot , I finally feel in control of my emotions and my future and things that used to be mundane to me now seem incredible and full of nuance on top of that I'm way less driven by my ego and I have alot more empathy as well.

    FIRST of all try this: learn to look at everything without additional emotional "coloring". All humans get through some shape of depression or low mood, some people multiple times through their life. Nowadays all are screaming "I'm depressed (or I'm with depression)" although they are in some bad life situation, sickness or just feel stressed or sad. One of the worst habits we can do to ourself is to magnify and empower negative thoughts. Thus checking for depression after depression is THE WORST you can do. Checking for it can bring you again to low mood (and create negative thoughts again), because many people are sometimes low and they can confuse their temporary low mood with depression. And many depressions are just habits of your mind, not real illness. For many people simple solution is to learn to accept all what is happening and just get out of yourself and your stupid thoughts, excercise, work, laugh as much you can (fake it if you must), scream, cry, run, ride to the max, eat healthy, take quality supplements (activated B, C, D vitamins), people, sun, sex, book, game, film, series (Seinfeld is my recommendation), God, music or some interesting talk and sleep 6-8 hours. Be your best friend, love yourself as you are an unique creation (no matter how stupid or bad you think you are) and stop ruminating. Btw, check your health. Sometime depression is actually an indicator of some health problem (inflammation in body, brain chemicals disbalance etc.) so check it too. Often unregulated glucose levels and insuline resistance/higher cortisole can change your mood. And again try this: learn to look at everything without additional emotional "coloring".

    5:06 Its a relatively small toolkit. CBT always talks about meditation, yoga, breathing, and journaling. I’ve heard this for years. Any new ideas? The problem is revisiting these tools consistently. The problem with these disorders is that we may be unmotivated about partaking in these exercises or possibly have bursts of energy in self improvement and development but then go back to our older ways of thinking and perspective. The reflection and insight is great but it can be isolating.

      I agree, that cbt is not enough on its own, you need support and to be kept company or busy or both..
      You really need to reclaim any small piece of self worth to start with, however small, and build on it at any opportunity...it's hard to find anything that makes you feel good about yourself when in this blackness

    Exercise does it for me, feels like I beat I it down, intense workouts work best for me, and trying to constantly remind myself to not let my feelings control my behaviour.

    Hi. Try this. CUT SUGAR as much as possible and get enough vitamin C from orange juice and vitamin B9 from peanut butter or leafy vegetables, beans, legumes, sitrus fruits or other B9 related food.
    This helped alot for me since I've suffered with depression for almost 20 years(since puberty).
    Try this for a week if you want, and please let me know if it helps.

    I had a bad session with a Psychologist who hurt me and I experienced emotional flooding. I’m still feeling the negative affects from it. I’ve never been depressed in my life but seeing a psychologist who was not a good fit for me has impacted my life negatively.

      @@Julie-pb7fe Hi Julie if she is in university, some universities offer mental health counseling to their students for free so that's an option if she is a student.
      I can only speak from my experience and what works for me. But what works for me may or may not work for others. A stable home environment makes a big difference for me. I only accept people who are supportive and I cut off ties with those who are unstable or judge me harshly. Going to sleep and waking up around the same time everyday helped. I do light exercise everyday regardless if I want to do it or not. A vegetarian diet makes me feel lighter and I notice my metabolism is more balanced than when I used to eat meat. I look at things from a larger perspective. So instead of only focusing on the negative things others did to me, I try to look at what that person may have gone through that caused them to be that way. I try to look at my impact on others and that my role may be important in other peoples' lives. If I feel anger in the moment, I take a break from my thoughts, breathe and let the anger pass through me. I also watch a lot of inspirational teachings on youtube and films and I use that as fuel to keep going. I found spiritual teachers like Eckhart Tolle restores me to a peaceful state. I adopt the idea that life is not here to make me happy, life is here to help me evolve and sometimes the best way to evolve is through challenges. I also remind myself that I will die one day and that a lot of the things I worry about don't matter as much as I think they do in the moment.

    you know one thing depperession sucks ,so many strange things happen to body which is totally
    unknown to mind and heart .with some people it goes mentally but with me it is physical ,it seems there is know end of it till death . I had it from years some times it seems I can handle with it but sometimes it
    makes me feel pain of death .
    and nobody knows how it feels ,
    will I ever be without depperession
    because antidepressants have hell of side effects

    I can't stand it when Doctors comapre taking blood pressure medication to popping pills to feel better . My husband's drug pusher Doctor used the same analogy , it makes me wonder if Doctors are directed to make this blanket statement . The way I see it , if a person doesn't take their blood pressure meds their body will have a reaction that could result in stroke or heart attack or even death , if a person doesn't take their psych meds what's gonna happen, they'll feel sad ?? Not the same ! Their body will not shut down as would a person with high blood pressure . After my Husband witness our Son die 9 years ago , he's been on them ever since .. now trying to get off of Cymbalta and Atavan - he is sooo miserable . No counselor has ever attempted to equip him with the tools needed to deal with his PTSD , just pop the pills , thats their answer . Doctors should be required to test the levels in the brain of individuals BEFORE prescribing anything .. He has trouble sleeping - they prescribed Gabbapentin , which isn't even approved for sleep .. I have no respect for Doctors in the Mental Heath field .. at least at Kaiser Northern California.Cymbalta has such horrible withdrawals the FDA has given it its own Syndrome its called " Cymbalta Discontinuation Syndrome " . It is reported 1% of people experience severe withdrawals but in reality a study has found those numbers are between 60 and 78 percent. Doctors also received 11 million in kickbacks for prescribing it . I have a feeling same thing is going on with Gabbapentin- they are now pushing this for off label use for every condition under the sun .

    I don’t know what to do. My parents don’t believe I have depression but it’s bc I hide all of my emotions on accident and bc they can scare me. I recently lost all of my friends bc they all used me and then some gave me death threats. I started to punch was and hit myself because I don’t feel worth it.     Is it really true that anyone needs to take any medication for the rest of their lives? I really question this approach to medicine. In my mind it is equivalent to only having a hammer and using that for every problem. What about diet/movement/meditation/conscious breathing/nature therapy/sunshine? There is so much more to health than taking a pill to correct for imbalances. It is one way, and I would like to think only a temporary stay until other resources are investigated.

    Depression most of the time is a spiritual effect I have found out myself.What helps me Church , the outdoors , walks on the beach and sometimes just admitting that some situations suck and to accept it and go on! Demonic forces are also at work believe it or not in our minds so I found out just by knowing this I know that it's not me creating things in my mind prayer works! But if you need just someone to vent out a counselor is usually good a stranger sometimes gives your soul what it needs!!!

    The use of electronic devices has also contributed to depression since it’s like a drug to the brain. Consider also decreasing the amount of time you spend on electronic devices if you’re struggling with depression.

    What to do?
    I suffer from I guess a mild depression. I do not have money to pay for a psychotherapy and my health insurance will not pay for it in this country. I know that I have to take care of myself. I have to sleep, to eat, do sports.
    But I simply cant. I am hungry all the time because I dont manage to make food for myself. It is to exhausting, to complex, not worth it.
    So what am I supposed to do when I cannot take care of myself properly anymore when this is the things I have to do to get out of it..?

      Damn bro, that sounds really hard. You said you do sports? Does perhaps the sports team or school or organization that it is affiliated with have some sort of doctor care? Mental health can/should be treated as seriously as physical health, even in sports. For me, taking advantage of the few free crisis help lines really helped, sometimes I'd call once a day. Like personal free therapy cuz goddamn it aint my fault I don't have insurance and am now using this free govt funded service to find someone to talk to and listen to me. Try it!
      Community health can sometimes have free sessions or days. I know its like, pfff, you can barely eat a meal and im asking you to research and go places lmao. I know i know. Its fucking rough man. disgustingly rough for those without insurance. Call the crisis line, ask them to directly give you numbers so you dont have to do anymore than call. You got this.

    I m not on medication however

    Yet I still feel somewhat happy
    Should I just start 🤔 a little therapy
    Is it my brain or just some buried feelings

      Psilocybin containing mushrooms saved my life . The drastically reduced my benzodiazepine withdrawal allowing me to quite illicit pill addiction after three years of heavy daily use before it would had became medically dangerous to quit . It has also helped me survive depression .

      How can they answer to somthing they dont understand no one can 100% understand how someone feels about so.ething they have been through ecause chances are no one else went through it except the one who is searching for the answer why they exlerienced what they went through... i cudnt understand what youve been through cos chances are i never experienced it but ud never understand what i been thru cos it happened to me not you... so how can talking about wat ur going thru help in anyway no one has the answer unless they understand it from the afflicted persons position because the majority of deppression is not caused by a persons own health but by abusive situations caused by others either from bullying abusive family a death divorce any number of things yet people are stigmatised by if they talk about depression or being deppresed like its some kind of insanity on their part or that they are volitile in some mannor yet thats hardly the case quit tge contrary it makes people vulnerable and open to attack from all sides in some cases because of the stigmatisation of being depressed about situations that were never of your own doing or participation except for the fact it happened to u.... it is only an ilness in the sense that you dlnt feel yourself anymore because u are not the happy person anymore instead u feel betrayed upset hurt demolished and exhausted from the emotional physical and mentaly testing and trying things youv been put through in life not just that but being sick and tired of biemg sick and tired, tired of everyones lies betrayl abuse and negativety.... so if talking about it is just as depressing as going through it on your own a d strugling to see a way forward struging to find the motivation to get up strugling to cope with the everyday stress o top of everytbing else and simply not knowing which way to turn cos theres so much crap thats makin u feel depressed that has been caused by other persons.... or events... tbat it effects ur constructivity or motivation in daily life.... thinkin bout it makes u feel worse then u blame urself for lettin those things happen an start feelin worrhless.... a vicious cycle to be in and a painful one too for some people

    most ever medication out there has worse side effects that what they are trying to help!! I know because I've been on hundreds already for anxiety, depression, Fatigue, ADD,ADHD, Fibromyalgia, Diabetes, even trying to treat symptoms of my Huntington's Disease!! I'm an emotional train wreck and mental wacky with a felon from 1994. It is what it is....nobody can really help if you can't or won't help yourself.

      Sometimes I do sleep all day. I figure maybe I am completely exhausted. I just ask myself if it makes me feel better the next day. Usually it does. I also allow myself extra treats if I am having a rotten day. I will buy a piece of cake or a coffee out. I eat a piece of chocolate or go for a walk with my dog. I let myself be indulgent and really focus on what I want. I think so many of us put off pleasures because we’ve been told to have self discipline. It is fine to work to reach a goal but sometimes you just need to let go and enjoy the things you always tell yourself NOT to do. If I wanted to kill myself, then I’d buy a plane ticket out of the area to a place that had a warm beach. It wouldn’t be the beach that cured me, instead it would be the freedom of will to act on my own behalf to do something nice for myself. It’s better than drugs or yoga or mindfulness or meditation because it isn’t a should but an I want to..so I will.

    Is it proven that major, recurrent depression is genetic? I think not.
    More likely if a parent or both were depressed, the children or child suffered as a result of this.. it's trauma experienced as a child with caregiver who was not able to care properly ( often through no real fault of their own)
    I don't believe some people are born depressed.. they may have a sensitive predisposition but I've never heard of a depressed baby unless they are physically ill or severely abused/neglected maybe..

    Lack of religious knowledge depression comes in life so keep faith in God then souls connect with love and coprate in life. Be kind be honest be grateful obey souls respect souls except everything happened in life some reason then happiness builds up in life. Cut down desire only grateful.     2021 was the hardest, darkest time of my life. I was physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually BROKEN. But now I feel genuinely GRATEFUL and BLESSED that I had to go through that phase because GOD has graciously REVEALED Himself to me in miraculous ways. I am fortunate that He allowed me to know Him at a very young age, but this year is SPECIAL because of what WE (yes, GOD and me) have been through last year. He showed me how POWERFUL prayers truly are when I started to focus on WHO HE IS rather than who I am, on WHAT HE CAN DO rather than what I deserve. The experience was MAGICAL. He showed up BIG TIME and assured me that HE is indeed a LISTENING and RESPONDING GOD. Oh how my faith has skyrocketed as a result! Now more than ever, I have very bright HOPE for my future because I personally experienced how RELIABLE God is. And for that I will forever be grateful. GLORY BE TO GOD, MY EVER FAITHFUL FATHER. ♥️♥️♥️
