This video was very helpful. I am an older student and take weekly voice lessons. I do get lazy with practice. If I practice consistently, I sing much better.
Its important to record yourself at least once a week because your personal standards will be much higher than a random person who might say your 'great' but you need to know how you sound yourself esp on a song you find challenging = knowing how you sound on that high note will give you so much confidence. I think for guy's just spend a few minutes every day in your higher mix from G5-A5 is the main hot spot.
Great video and brilliant points made. I sing every day. I can't help it! Often whilst doing housework. Intentional practice happens around 4 days a week for around half hour at a time... And then I just want to do all the singing because it's fun! I am spending an awful lot of time in between trying to roll my R's successfully! 😅
My problem is usually the first line of a song if I am leading. I have led probably about 5 times and I am still very nervous! I lose breath support so my words don’t have any smoothness or strength. I don’t know how to duplicate that nervous sensation of singing alone. After people start singing with me I’m a lot better! 😅
I was chatting with my friend the other day about how I can play piano or guitar in front of people and not do it that well. And the people won't think that much about it. But if you sing in front of people and don't do it well, then that is embarrassing. People might making some howling sounds towards me or something.
Me tracher (at the conservatory) used to be an opera singer but can no longer sing due to health issues (unrelated to her voice) and is also retired. So she can't demonstrate at all. Is this bad? I can't change her by the way even if I wanted.
Love how you point out it's just fine motor muscle memory, of course it improves with practice 🙂

I repeat, repeat and repeat vocal warm-ups and exercises that you post, Freya, and this has helped me immensely! Thank you!
