It should be noted that Mary Weiss was the original lead singer in this group, and she is still with us today... Not sure how or why this group can call themselves by the name they used at this event without her ... ?? www.maryweiss.com
a man basically stole the name and created this new group. At the time he did it , the people who originally owned the rights to the group name had let the copyright expire. Mary and the others didn't find out until they found out that this group had been created. He never even tried to locate any of the original 4 girls.
@@nanchanger They did try and sue them but the group never owned the rights to the name therefore someone bought it. Quite sad. The original lineup last performed together in 1989. Sadly three of the four members have now passed away with lead singer Mary Weiss recently passing in January 2024. Many artists are out there peforming under the names of these original groups from the 50s and 60s. Some are legit and still feature maybe 1-2 originals but there are many with no original members. In the case of The Shangri-Las though these women in this video are pretending to be the original lineup and have even claimed on stage these are their songs.
This is not them. These are imposters. Someone bought the rights to the group's name and had three other women pretend they were the original Shangri-Las. The original Shangri-Las havent performed together since 1989. One died in 1970, another in 1996 and most recently lead singer Mary Weiss died in 2024. Mary's sister Betty is the last surviving member and hasnt performed live since 1989.
NOPE. Rest in Serenity Mary Weiss.
