The most wonderful Mary Weiss being a sport and singing her best-known song at 2008 Ponderosa Stomp at Jazzfest time in New Orleans. Rock on, Mary!, and Thank You!
Well put CamperVanPersie..."can't hide the tears...I don't care" Mary's beauty, femininity in leather, not to mention her innocent, heart-wrenching vocals have left an indelible mark on rock and pop music.....and on my soul.😔💓💘💔
Love you Mary! When you and the Twins walked out on stage at the Fox for the Murray the K Shows, we kids, who knew you were the same age as we were, would go wild. Your the real deal and a great singer. Thanks so much, home girl.
She looks terrific and you can still hear the "soul" in her voice. I'll take this any day over all the fake lineups of The Shangri-las that have toured over the years.
This song meant a lot to a lot of "girls" in the 60s. And the guy that I knew and adored was named "Jimmy" and he had a motorcycle. This song is such a rush for me. Love it. And the Shangri Las let us express and be represented by other young women.
Rest in heavenly peace to the great Mary Weiss and to all the Shangri-Las members. Your music and legacy will be remembered for eternity. Thank you for the incredible music 🕊🎸
She still looked terrific. The voice really deepened. Almost sounds like she’s singing an octave below where she did in ‘64. The years will do that to you.
Bless you Mary Weiss....You been through a lot in your life...I'm so glad your back and still going strong and getting the credit you well have earn...
And the moral is, if you know Mary Weiss is going to be at the gig, for god's sake download some motorcycle revving sounds for your keyboard just in case. She did great. Now go and listen to the original and realize the great timing the Shangri-las had. Thanks Mary!
Great stuff and memories ty Mary for the years of songs n music enjoyment the first time I heard it was on WKNR Kenner13 Detroit Michigan I was 14 at that time 1965
It's so strange that people are surprised that she doesn't sound the same as when she was 15....of course vocals change! No need to get mad at her about it...I'm glad she still records and tours!
I often enjoy the singers when they are more mature. Their voices still have the same quality, but with a better sound. I always remember Dan Fogelberg in his later career, particularly in the 1990s. His older voice was wonderful.
Are you serious?! Like BlackMonk66 says, do you really thing her voice should sound the same as it did in 1964? That's 40+ years ago! As a musician, I find Mary's voice to be incredibly good, particularly given this is a live recording. Voices age, but Mary still cuts it. Does Paul McCartney sound the same as he did in the 60's. Hell no! But do we still appreciate his performances today? Hell yes! Mary is a treasure and I applaud her for sharing her talent with us today.
I found it enjoyable to see this video and hear Mary sing it...jealous people with no talent of their own are always the first to criticize true innovators...
Mary is an icon! She doesn't even like performing this old song any more. You can see in her face she's doing it in a jokey way and just pleasing her fans who demand to hear her sing this classic. She'd be the first to tell you it's a young girl's song and doesn't suit now & she knows that her voice has matured and deepened as everyone's does. So you should listen to her solo album and hear the modern stuff she's doing. She sounds awesome and the new songs are just perfect for her voice now!
the legends are the ones worth great no matter what, like mary wiess.she might not sound like she did long ago,but she is still one of the greatest singers in the world.no doubt about it.
RIP birthday ( i was born in Seattle, she was born in NYC ) "twin." It was a honor to share the same birthday December 28 1948 with you. I only found this out a few months ago.
What a fun night that must have been ... it looks to me like she was enjoying it as much as anyone. She may get a little tired of singing it, but 'Leader of the Pack' has been pretty good to her over the last 40+ years. As far as the band, they were right in keeping with the spirit of the crowd. Of course her voice is deeper; age (and singing who knows how many times without vocal care) does that. What a gal! *¬◊
I recently went back and did an oldies DJ show at one of my former stations. It was an outside thing. Someone in the crowd said GOD YOU GOT OLD LOOKING. I look up and see this heavy woman with a belly calling me OLD.
Mary was 59 years old when she performed this song. She's not going to have that 16 year old voice as many of do not. Not everyone can perform at the level of Debbie Harry at age 60. The Shangri Las really had some great music in the 60's and I would ask that everyone dive in and discover their music. This was a great group that had a number one hit in a time when musical competition was very high.
Keep in mind the equipment being used here, could also play into anything that sounds off. You can here a bit of echo, and her voice at times sounds like there's a piece of cardboard between her and the mic. I would put any imperfections on the electronic side.
People are so mean, she's clearly not performing this in seriousness, she looks like she's having so much fun reliving this old, cheesy song from when she was 16.
This is fantastic! This revives memories of my sisters' carport dance parties. I am about a decade younger than this lady, but this is integral to the soundtrack of my childhood.
being a biker all my life this vidio brought tears to my eyes. I lost alot of brothers and sisters over the years This song hits home, and she does it so well. Pease.
Never give up Mary! keep going strong...the people that you influence in the music world today say you should never give up..They think it's great that your finally back!!!..they keep getting inspire from your excellent talent..the likes of Debbie harry,Steve Tyler,Amy winehouse,New York Dolls,Bruce Springsteen and many many more
We can't hide Our tears Mary, and We don't care.....We'll Never Forget You.
Well put CamperVanPersie..."can't hide the tears...I don't care"
Mary's beauty, femininity in leather, not to mention her innocent, heart-wrenching vocals have left an indelible mark on rock and pop music.....and on my soul.😔💓💘💔
In Memoriam , Mary Weiss 1948-2024
R.I.P. Mary Weiss. Passed away Jan. 20 at 75 from cancer. She and Ronnie Spector are leading the choir upstairs now.
It was Friday
Wikipedia says: "Weiss died from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease at her home in Palm Springs"
I'm impressed that she still makes an effort to put some heart into her vocals.
Mary Weiss .... She is a treasure.
Mary is a LEGEND. ♫
The Shangri-Las should be inducted into the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame.
11 years later still not inducted. It’s a damn shame.
Mary must have been one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen from the 1960s, She was absolutely stunning.
RIP
My sister bought me this single when I was 10 yo because I loved the sound of motorcycles, I'm 57 now still ride motorcycles and love rock and roll
Rest in Serenity,Mary. Thank you for the awesome musical memories.
Love you Mary! When you and the Twins walked out on stage at the Fox for the Murray the K Shows, we kids, who knew you were the same age as we were, would go wild. Your the real deal and a great singer. Thanks so much, home girl.
It's nice to know that some icons from 30-40 even 50 years ago are still in the game. We love you Mary!!!
She looks terrific and you can still hear the "soul" in her voice. I'll take this any day over all the fake lineups of The Shangri-las that have toured over the years.
You still sound fantastic Mary.Time has not taken anything away from you.Remembering you & the rest of The Shangri-Las.
RIP Mary Weiss❤️
She is still beautiful!! Wow...
+Perfil Antigo reminds me a bit of Anastacia...
My goodness, she is still gorgeous. Sorry to hear that the twins are gone.
Wow! Amazing performance. She still has it.
This song meant a lot to a lot of "girls" in the 60s. And the guy that I knew and adored was named "Jimmy" and he had a motorcycle. This song is such a rush for me. Love it. And the Shangri Las let us express and be represented by other young women.
19 years old and I love this song soooo much!
What does your age have to do with liking a song lmao
Crazy to realize you're 30 now.
Wow, What a voice Mary has. She is truly one of the best female vocalist of our time.
Come on, not even close.
One of the greatest voices in rock and roll.
Love this! I recently found their music and it makes me nostalgic for a time I never even got to experience! Beautiful.
Its the end of 2023 and I'm loving this 👍
RIP today

Nice to see and to hear her again. She has allways been so beautiful!
Bless you Mary Weiss....You been through a lot in your life...I'm so glad your back and still going strong and getting the credit you well have earn...
THANK YOU MARY. IT'S BEEN A LONG TIME AND YOU ARE STILL LOVED BY MANY OF US. PIECE TO YOU AND YOUR SISTER BETTY.
Thank you, Mary for performing these songs again and releasing a new album. We love you.
Rip Mary 🙏
Pure elegance.
I would like to tell her how much joy and happiness she and the Girls have brought to the listeners of their music.
R.I.P Mary Weiss 😢
Glad to see her smile. Listening to oldies radio in the late 70s, I’m certain this was the song played the most.
And the moral is, if you know Mary Weiss is going to be at the gig, for god's sake download some motorcycle revving sounds for your keyboard just in case. She did great. Now go and listen to the original and realize the great timing the Shangri-las had. Thanks Mary!
The original is so iconic and will never be forgotten!
Band covering the backing vocals - excellent job! You guys nailed it, and that bridge isn't easy!
Can you imagine being there? I wish
I'll never forget HER, the leader of the pack.

Great to see she's still performing
Bless'em all, great music from an era I can only dream about with great fondness..
Even if she would have preferred not to sing it, she gave it everything. What a voice, what a singer!
So glad she's still around and looking good!
Bless you Mary Weiss....You been through a lot in your life... YOU ARE THE BEST! Grettings from Chile (at the south of this world)
Sure it's not like she is still 16 but how many of us are. Keep it up Mary great songs.
So cool to see this, thank you! RIP Mary

Playing the Devil's Advocate here, but Tom Jones' voice today. And he's way older than Mary.
I found it enjoyable to see this video and hear Mary sing it...jealous people with no talent of their own are always the first to criticize true innovators...
It's good. She may be singing about 2 octaves lower now, but it's definitely her voice.

Love Mary...
Her folks might have always been "putting her down", but I have a feeling Mary is still the Leader of the Pack.

I would LOVE to see Mary Weiss in concert.
She was and always will be a music icon .. what a voice
Absolute LEGEND!
Died today
She really has something special. The song itself is so - so but she has always made it great.
This is a treasure! Thanks very much for sharing it.👌🎯👌
If only the twins could be there with her on stage...
One of the twins died in 1970 at age 22, kinda hard to have both of them onstage with her!!
@@timothygeiger437 The other one died in 1998, definitely bad.
@@timothygeiger437 think that was the point 🤦🏻♀️
its not her age she is still her no matter what age she is and a matter of fact I would marry her in a heartbeat she is so cool
Wow! 60 years old and she still looks great!
60?? Try 70 now.
I love so much Mary Weiss.....from Koeran boy.
You sound fantastic
STILL STOUNDS GREAT 👍
People are so mean, she's clearly not performing this in seriousness, she looks like she's having so much fun reliving this old, cheesy song from when she was 16.
