Omg the Mr Dilkington bit still makes me cry laughing. First time i watched it i had to pause to calm down i was laughing so much. Ricky laughing didn't help 😂😂
You’ve really exposed me to British standup lately. Thanks! I doubt I could’ve done it alone, it helped a lot to watch these with a fellow American who has a great laugh/perspective on humor

btw Twiggy's was a real dance school in Manchester. It changed owners in the 90's to Steppin Out Dance school where I went!! The Dance studio was upstairs above a grocery shop. So that part is absolutely real! even the toilet paper bit...
While Ricky Gervais might be arguably the funniest comedian on this planet... Karl Pilkington is definitely the funniest MAN on this planet... this isn't even a race
Sometimes when I’m not having the best day my mood is instantly improved when the thought of “Mr K Dilkington” comes into my mind and I laugh to myself.

Two eps ago when I said I was looking forward to your reaction to this episode, you can probably guess now that I was talking about the Mr K Dilkington part. :) I’ll be honest - I laughed at that a lot more than you did and still find it hilarious even though I’ve heard it a dozen times by now. :)
It always gets me too, such a simple thing but I think Ricky's laugh and the way that Steve struggles to narrate without laughing, makes it even funnier

I'm sure you'll love them!! Also try; Sean Lock purple van man. bob Mortimer on would I lie to you Ricky and karl in the tv show Derek
i can't wait till you get into the later seasons, it only gets better - i've also watched your idiot abroad ones and again season 2 is probably my favourite, i totally support you continuing watching these shows if you wanna
I'm not sure if someone has already said but after watching The Ricky Gervais show, you should maybe try out IT Crowd, unless you've already have. It really funny and daft but i think you would really enjoy it. Loving the videos!
The "cat mops" Karl refers to are an example of "Chindōgu", the Japanese comedy art of inventing useless objects, for amusement rather than practicality. I have a number of books on the subject. As is so often the case, Karl had a good point, but bizarrely failed to back it up with a single good example. He could have said moveable type, paper, porcelain, gunpowder, alcohol, tea, etc, but no, he says "cat mops", which not only are a joke, but not even Chinese. 😂
Don’t know if you’ve seen any of them but you should check out “ok go”s music videos (especially ‘I won’t let you down’) You should Also check out a show called the IT crowd
If you like The Ricky Gervais show youtube - "Ricky Gervais Show XFM" - it's audio only but you might like listening to them. It's all the early days stuff where Ricky and Steve met Karl. It's absolute gold!
Dear American friends, if you're learning British slang from listening to Karl, please be very careful. Karl is a very odd little man and often gets it completely wrong. "Knocking one out" for example, does not mean dropping a deuce, but quite another, typically solo, male pasttime. Asking where you can "knock one out" in England is likely to get you an unwanted reputation.
Something to add to your list mate. Karl Pilkington's 3 minute wonder. He made 4 of these short documentaries. One each on 'Life', 'Holidays', 'Health' and 'Nature'. I remember on the radio show years ago they read out a review someone had written in to the Guardian newspaper slating Karl and of course Ricky was in stitches and Karl was super pissed off.
The thing with the Chinese trains is not necessarily that they don't have toilets, but that they are so overcrowded (people standing), the no-one can move to even get to the toilet. So, because of that, a lot of people wear adults nappies (daipers) during the journey. Also if you want to see Karl being an idiot abroad but with a friend in tow, wait for Season 3 :)
There are toilets in trains in China. I went to go in the train station before the ride. As I got close to the side of the platform with the bathrooms, I recoiled away from the smell. I was still yardssss from the bathrooms. The bathroom on the train is like that scene in Trainspotting the worst toilet in Scotland, except this squat toilet is also shaking from the train's movement. It was an overnight train. I was 🥺 I had a tiny tiny sip of water before going to sleep and 1 more sip in the morning before finally arriving to my city. Yeah but that was 2010. Riding the trains in 2015 as an American, you look around at the amenities, the concience and efficacy of public transit, the comfort of the train, plus the glimpses thru the window of countrysides and small farming towns you are never going to get to go to but you can look into for a few fleeting seconds
The best of British, in my humble ancient opinion: The really really really ancient stuff: Take a pew - Alan Bennett George, don't do that - Joyce grenfall Strange 80's stuff that's super obscure: Comic strip presents: Mr jolly lives next door (forerunner to bottom - a few years after 'the young ones'. So many cultural references will pass you by sadly - yeah, it was illegal to buy a pint at 3pm until the 90's) Five go mad in dorset: takes the piss out of the famous five books. Notable for being broadcast on the 1st night of Channel 4 in 1982. It was the most complained about comedy program on British TV, until..... Brass eye. Specifically the peadogeddon episode. (I think the drugs episode is funnier, simply because they managed to get parliament to seriously discuss whether cake should be banned in the UK) How about reacting to radio for a change? Blue jam monologues. There is no funnier writing ever written.
Hi think you would really enjoy An Idiot Abroad 2 - Pilko Pump Pants - Karl Pilkington on price drop. Karl flogs an invention he makes on an actual shopping channel in the uk !

Maybe do, Karl Pilkington, full Diary. They're not animated but they are hilarious. Karl's childhood was far from normal. Also, there's full videos on Karl's Childhood, Karl on Ghosts, Karl's Parents, Karl on Romance. It's really funny. I love, "Xfm, the popes dead", also look at Rockbusters, there's so much. Its Xfm series, also there's podcasts, there's a community of us insomniacs who listen to all this to sleep. It's really good.
Whenever they do this time-machine kind of thing, or going back to his youth.. Karl gets so worried about changing history. They should've just said he can look in some kind of crystal ball, where he can go sneak a peek whenever/wherever he likes.
Really been enjoying your channel during lockdown! Thanks for helping me keep semi sane! Please consider watching the 'would I lie to you ' Bob Mortimer 'compilation '. Anyway thanks for the great content. Stay safe. 😊👊🙏
It's kinda just the nature on life in England on a council estate. If you're lucky you might have a local park, about 1/20 of the size of an America park, and nothing like the skate parks, basically a field full of dog faeces. Other than that a small corner shop, which is where the kids normally hang out. And boredom and emptiness leads to high crime. Gang mentality etc. Aspirations are so low, It's the dealer with a beat up old high mileage BMW, that's the talk of the neighbourhood. Wouldn't be far off the projects in America...
It is brilliant but if you go into thinking it will be anywhere near as funny as his other stuff youll be disappointed id say. More of an acquired taste than his work with Ricky/Steve

A monkey meaning 500 actually comes from when the British had large ties with trade in India. The Indian bank note for 500 rupees had a monkey on it.
