As a new user - great to find this. I understand all the experimentation that went into this and it is totally appreciated. Next, how can we get the Leslie to sound good - the upper leslie sounds awful. I ended up turning the leslies off and hooked up my Vent. It would have been nice to not have to do that.
Bob Federer hi, I Also love this video, and herre is the anser to RUclips question, so take a good look at this: ruclips.net/video/zPtWdDDNN64/видео.html
Fantastic. I have had an idea. Sliders 1-2 on 1. Sliders 3-4 on 2. Sliders 5-6 on 3. Slider 7 on 4. Slider 8 on 5 and slider 9 on 6. I haven't tried it yet but that would give you more or less a great result. Of course you can play around with which sliders go on which. I will try it later.... Thanks for video...
This is great, solved a lot of bad organ-problems! Did all this and extended to three knobs with bass mid and high, my only problem is when I saved all this into favorites I can't get any volume.... Why?? I've tried everything :P
Hi Ryan,,,,, watched your video several times,,,,,,, think Im ready to tackle this.... Question,,,,,,,, on your 1st 2 parts in the video, you removed certain drawbar sliders. Since you only did the 1st two parts,,,,,,, what sliders(drawbars) did you remove for the other 4 parts? Thanks!
Great tutorial, I have a potentially dumb question here. For some reason, I can't save the settings when I edit the studio set. I make the changes, write to the set and when I go back to the settings, they are back at default.
Thanks, it would be better if they were already assigned. My approach depends on the song. I play a lot of Blues and often don't need to use all of the draws so I'll just use the knobs for the harmonics I want to add in. Usually I'll want draw 3 and 4 out so won't need to assign them. Just experiment to see what works for your genres. Feel free to share your thoughts!
Hi Ryan!i have a question! Is there anyway that i can assign the volume of the different sounds that i layered to the knobs of the FA06?like real time volume controls to different sounds?.Thanks!
Does someone know if i that drawbars have a midi ''number'' ?So if i connect a midi controller with drawbars i will be able to adjust them by this way?
If I understand this correctly, it should work with any midi assignable controllers, correct? So if you had some MIDI controller box that had enough knobs/sliders, you could control them all the drawbars. Also, I'm not sitting at my FA-08, but it seems like you should be able to control just LEVEL (not specific to the organ) instead of OD GAIN (specific to the organ), which would remove the overdrive portion of this, basically just controlling the level of each Studio Set Part. Hopefully I'll have a chance to try this out tonight and can report back.
I got a few min at lunch to test this out. YES - definitely can use a bigger MIDI controller to control all the drawbars. NO - I don't see any way to assign controllers to the levels of different parts of the Studio Set. :( Great thinking on the way to get this to work, though! Too bad there's no more straightforward mixer of parts.
Aha! There is a solution for an external MIDI controller that will allow each knob (or slider) to be on a separate MIDI channel. You can set each of 9 knobs to be VOLUME of channels 1-9, have each part respond to MIDI channels 1-9 (as is default), but turn on the KBD selector for those parts. The keyboard will then cause them all to make sound, but the level will be controlled by the VOLUME control from the knobs on the external MIDI controller. I've tested this and it works.
Sorry for the slow reply, but yes, it works. The way to think about it is you have 9 different instruments in a Studio Set, and each one responds to a different midi channel, but they all have the kbd switch on, so they all respond to the keys. Then the external midi controller controls the volumes of channels (and therefore instruments) 1 to 9. I like this solution because it gives access to all 9 drawbars and doesn't involve possible distortion created by the gain.
Hello Ryan. I have been trying to go further and assign different drawbars to the 6 sliders and it works but I'm having trouble recording the settings. The Roland Fa doesn't seem to record the settings. How can I do it? I've only had the FA a short time and have just changed my other module for another one, so I haven't spent enough time on the FA as I could have done, so how can I get these settings to stay on the FA? It sounds really good and I want it to stay on the board but it wont load in he new settings.. Thanks in advance...
You need to save the tone each time you modify it and modifying a MFX modify the tone. The rotary effect is a MFX : the MFX is attached to the tone (see the screen in the video : it is "tone edit" screen). Saving the studio set doesn't save the tones themselves. First save the tones, then save the studio set.

For those interested in more detailed control of drawbars there seems to be more options for external controlers (hardware or software) via SysEx commands: forums.rolandclan.com/viewtopic.php?p=281392#p281392
That was excellent, mate! I bought my FA07 yesterday and I'm gonna create my "drawbars studio set" right now! Thanks!
Well done! A lot of people have spent a lot of time trying to achieve this.
Thanks, I spent a lot of time on it too!

Not all heroes wear capes.
Brilliant. Used this technique with an old uc-33 controller. 8 draw bars with a c3 rock organ.
Pretty incredible, Ryan. I'd have never figured this out by myself. Thank you.

This was helpful, but does anyone know how to actually assign the knobs to the specific draw bars??
can i assigned different sounds?

Save the tones first, then the studio set
Clever! But using multiple instance of the organ patch to generate independent drawbar access is going to use up a lot more polyphony, right?
SLHkeyboards I don't think so, cuz he isn't combining them in the studio set. If he combines multiple sounds, then he will lose notes when sustained
Great dear! Thanks
So 4 knobs with 9 draw bars what is your approach to playing live? Especially not being able to see what you controlling? Nice job!
