Sorry to be so offtopic but does someone know a trick to get back into an instagram account? I was dumb forgot my password. I appreciate any tricks you can offer me
I love the way you get right to the essential core of things, then demonstrate the how and why so purely, precisely, and entertainingly. I'm so honored to be your student. Thank you so much,
What an eye opener, I can only take about a half (if that) breath by breathing properly (and without raising my shoulders), I'm super skinny as well. I can get almost 3/4 by sitting the way you demonstrated. I'm a bit of an anxious person and during college I realized my stomach was just tense all the time I've never really been able to just let it go. Surely this will help if I do this everyday
I was exactly like you when I was your age. Keep working on releasing down there when inhaling and not only will you gain much better control of your voice but you'll also reduce your anxiety.
One of the best explanations I've heard.Ising in barbershop where we have to sustain some very long notes anywhere from 5,15 upto 20 seconds as a lead singer I am ok up to about 10 12 seconds where I have to take a snatch breath.Would you do a video on super long notes?

Hello Mark. Love the lessons! I just wanted to know if pulling my top dome in when I sing is right or wrong? I get all kinds of crazy resonance & tonal depth from it, but I have yet to hear anyone say that you should do that. Is this just belting from the chest or am I truly using my diaphragm? I try to work with the whole apparatus but this is where I feel it working the most. One final, newbie type question; Do I inhale form the nose or the mouth? I saw that you recommend inhaling through the nose on the dbdbdbdbdbdbdbd video. Thanks
Yes - inhale through the nose whenever possible. I don't know what you mean by "top dome" - but I never recommend telling your body what to do in order to sing. Ask (focus) on the sound you want - and your body will do what's necessary to produce it. Tell the body what to do and you'll never know if you could have produced the same sound with less force.
Basically, what I mean by top dome is the very top part of the front of the diaphragm (just below the sternum and close to the solar plexus). It doesn't feel forced but it does feel like I have to put a lot of conscious control over it.
Well you certainly don't have to exert any conscious control over that area when you're sleeping - and yet you breathing goes on all night by that very area expanding and contracting. What's interfering with that process when you're awake is your thoughts. If you think about what is necessary to create a big resonant sound your body will brace in anticipation (it's the same reason you can't tickle yourself). Instead - place your focus on the intended sound and let your body react as necessary. Uninhibited people don't have breathing issues when singing. I sure did when I was starting out - and I think you are too. The answer is not more conscious control over your body - it's more focus on the outcome you want. Comfort and control - that's what you want.
Love you Mark!!!!!!!! Your techniques are unmatched by anyone! You helped me so much when I studied with you. I went from an ok singer to one who got standing ovations at every show! I highly recommend Mark to anyone who wants to learn how to master his/her instrument, THE VOICE! Jean Neas (Swan) a.k.a. Jasper Stone ❤️😊❤️
Fadley Iriantony That depends on what you're about to sing. Something loud? Then yes - you abdominal muscles will tense to boost the air pressure. Any other sound, though, your abdominal area will be full but relaxed. The air pressure in your lungs is already pressurized - so all you need to do is release it to begin singing. That's exactly how you cried the day you were born. You certainly didn't need to think about breathing to make sounds back then - and you don't now. The reason for the reminder in the video is because we tend to hold ourselves with tension and don't realize how it compromises our breath. So the most important thing is to start from a relaxed place - and then breath and sing.
Voice Lesson.com so if you are about to sing loud then your stomach should feel tightened when you inhale? I have another question for you I have been practicing my breathing for months now and. I realised that when I sing on notes that I struggle with and as the pitch goes up my lower ribs at the side of my centre abs gets tight? What is the problem?
I think my diaphragm is broken LOL :-) When I am sitting or lying down I have no problem breathing in to my stomach area. When I stand up my belly pops out ( fat belly ) and sucks air in, so I have to breath out, before I can breath in. :-) Is this normal ?
I have always found out that breathing while sitting is very natural for singing but whenever i stand up for singing i just go out of breath. . .can you suggest some way out. . .
Great explanation, makes everything simple. I find only one thing that confuses me. There is also another way of inhaling thats lower back breathing. You also mentioned that back should also expand. Only one contradiction is that lower back breathing implies that abdomen should go in during inhalation and that confuses me little bit. There is one interesting man explaining this in this video ruclips.net/video/zP95vVr2gt0/видео.htmlsi=eT1tcqjhfu89OMb0 Your opinion on this will be very interesting for me, I love how you approach singing, your content really helps.
Don't be confused! Michael Trimble is referring to classical singing and I am referring to contemporary singing. When I breath deeply both my back and my abs expand (a small movement bulges out 360 degrees around my belt line). That's exactly how an infant inhales - so it's 100 % natural. Most of us are rigid and/or inhibited and so we have shallow breaths. So some attention is helpful to become more reflexive but the strict technique of classical singing becomes more of a burden than a help when singing contemporary songs.

You're very welcome!
I appreciate your use of the term 'intention.' Many of your lessons teach me that true control of my voice is the control of mind and trust in body.

Hi Mark. So,can we do the breathing while laying on our back for a good posture indication ??
Some says belly breathing is wrong. Instead, rib breathing is the correct one. Any thoughts about it?
The reality is a combination of both!
Is this the art of appoggio (balanced breathing) haha?
You´re my teacher.
Peace.
Glad to help!
An all around diaphragm a tic breathe.
Thank you Mark

Work on your standing posture - you are too tense when standing. Stretch and balance are often best found by doing yoga.
I actually have to do that with my leg up. Lol
