    Last night I told my wife, how you are the most lovable vocal teacher I came across on RUclips. Next thing I find this bball video and that was literally the only thing that could even top everything. The two things I love the most in one video presented and transformed into wise teachings. I would really love to do a vocal lesson in person with you one day if possible. 🙏🏻

    • @voicelessondotcom
      @voicelessondotcom  4 года назад

      If you stopped anything for eight years it would be difficult to get back to where you were. Be patient and reduce the volume - allow falsetto - so you find comfort first. Then add for more power. Watch this: ruclips.net/video/ZGV8CHgX2-M/видео.html

    Awesome analogies. How much fundamentals should one practice in a day?

    • @voicelessondotcom
      @voicelessondotcom  7 лет назад +12

      An hour a day until they are completely second nature. We singers skip past the fundamentals early on and it haunts us later when we're seeking out the little details.

    • @kingwillie206
      @kingwillie206 4 года назад

      Voice Lesson.com - Teachers love to tell students to not train their voices for extended periods of time, however, they fail to mention specifics or the level of intensity. A smart student can work on breathing, low volume control, low volume agility etc. without causing any damage whatsoever.

  • @maryamzahid20
    @maryamzahid20 4 года назад +1

    Amazing exercise. What would you recommend are the fundamental skills to practice to develop as a singer ?

    • @voicelessondotcom
      @voicelessondotcom  4 года назад +2

      The fundamental skills of singing are the independent control of timbre, time, volume and pitch. Those are the four aspects of sound. Gain control of those with comfort and your desire becomes singing without thought.

    I have some more questions about this exercise.. I can’t seem to coordinate how much a breathe I need. even for the shorter scales I have a lot left over... but then for longer scales I don’t have enough. So I can tell I am just guessing at this point haha do we just do this
    Repeatedly and it’ll coordinate itself?

    • @voicelessondotcom
      @voicelessondotcom  3 года назад +1

      That's exactly how we learn to shot a basketball! Obviously you're taking in the same breath no matter what's needed - but you don't do that when speaking. You take in very little air for simple replies and a big breath for long responses. How does your body know? Reflexes. You trust them when speaking - practice until you trust them when singing.

    • @voicelessondotcom
      @voicelessondotcom  8 лет назад +2

      The exercise begins at 5:18 with one scale. At this low volume you should be able to practice this many times a day without any strain or discomfort. So start with three times a day for 15 minutes each time.

    • @voicelessondotcom
      @voicelessondotcom  8 лет назад

      +Desiree Barfield That's because you're not letting your body adjust to the different notes you're singing. If you lock and load your throat and larynx then you'll only have a small area of pitch that works easily. Just like if you always use the same amount of force with your arm then you'll only be able to shoot a certain type of basketball shoot. Back off the push and try things at a much lower volume.

    • @desireebarfield8133
      @desireebarfield8133 8 лет назад

      I try lower all the time but it still seems like i cant be steady. Also, i do a lot of pushing and it seems that i cant keep steady high notes either.

    • @voicelessondotcom

      Be patient Desiree - I don't recommend pushing to make your voice stable.

    • @voicelessondotcom
      @voicelessondotcom  9 лет назад +4

      +Jance Kuwait It takes a lot of practice! So be patient. If you're running out of breath on high notes but not on low notes that means you are pushing way too hard on your high notes. Instead - sing them much softer for a while to get comfortable.

  • @annieyang1832

    • @voicelessondotcom

      If you feel you are healthy enough - exercising your body more will improve your breathing. If you feel you are already in good physical condition - then practice this vocal exercise more.

    Your breath before the 9 scale was almost imperceptable. There wasn't even much time between you finishing speaking and starting the scales.The first 3 times I tried the 9 scale, I ran out of air around 6! I had to really take in a lot of air slowly before I could do the full 9. How did you seem to take in so little? OR was it HOW you released the air?

    • @voicelessondotcom

      +Chinasa Faith Did you ask your music director to explain what you should do about it? Because he would be able to see if you're choking off notes or simply not providing enough breath. Do you have more then one child? How long since the birth of your first? My recommendation is that you explore every exercise I've posted on this channel and allow your voice to wobble and sound bad as you do so. Your body has gone through a lot of changes and vocal exercises are a good way to reacquaint yourself with your voice.
