I am a straight, cisgender, 70 year old woman and I can't imagine being alienated by anything you might say. I find your channel to be informative, heartwarming and funny.
As a straight listener committed to this pod…I LOVE when Ashley gets indignant about us being here. 😂 You guys are amazing and I’m happy I found this family.
Hi from south Africa. I decided to tell a friend of mine how I felt. The friendship ended. I am still glad that I took a shot. This was last year November, listening to you guys reminded me of that.
I really appreciated your discussion on friendship. I know that for me, it was one of the toughest lessons as I moved from being a teen to adulthood - you can downgrade a friendship, you can move away from a friendship without it being the end of the world, you need to learn to be comfortable without being surrounded all the time, it's okay to have a few friends. Another thing that could be added to this discussion is maturity. I think it would be worth considering to see maturity in a less black and white manner (you're mature or immature). It serms to me that there are different types of maturity. Growing incompatibility in friendship also has to do with that, in my opinion.
25:40 I'm straight and love it when Ashley pretends to 'alienate the straights' 😉... and Alayna's reaction when she does ("Ashley! We've talked about this!")🤣. Thanks for letting us be part of the humor and am glad to be a Patreon member ❤❤❤🌈🌈🌈
Speaking as an almost 50 year old woman, re: friendships - My friendships evolve over time and I need different things from different people. I am still connected to one or two people from high school (Class of '91, yo!) but we are at VERY different places in our lives now. I have had people that I were super intense friends with at certain times, and then we drifted apart. As you get older, it takes more effort to make and maintain friendships as you have things like jobs/partners/kids to juggle, and the friendships can feel more superficial, and that's totally okay. Not all friendships are made equal, and they can be hard, and that's just how it is.
I'm vision impaired, and there's a lot of damage/scar tissue in my eyes, lashes that grow in the wrong spots, etc. But I have a similar thing done with my blood to what Ashley's talking about, but it gets made into eye drops. I've been doing this for over a decade, and honestly it's the one thing that truly gives me noticeable relief. Interesting to hear other things they can do that for. Hoping you have good results too 🤞
I always thought having friends as an adult was exactly what Alayna is describing… just got mindblown by the idea that there are people who are still able to be present in each other’s lives regularly. 😅
This pod always manages to tackle something that I need to hear. I've taken realizations I've had listening to this podcast into my actual therapy sessions because the break throughs have been that significant.
I also just got PRP injections done for my chronic pain. It's so nice to hear of other people trying it and also being nervous that the procedure won't work. I don't have much hope for myself, but I am so glad Ashley got it and is hopeful
Thank you for doing this podcast, you guys inspire me and I’m very proud of you guys for all that you have accomplished. Thank you guys for giving us a safe space to just be ❤
I really do think realizing you need certian standards in friendship so important. For longest time, I kinda fell into friendship that maybe weren't the best, but since I didn't have friends, it was more like it's this or nothing. Which sometimes isn't the best choice, sometimes it is better being on your own or trying find new friends that do mash up well with you. Also Ashley, I hope that treatment works for you! ❤❤
She told a fan to kill themselves just recently multiple times at her recent Indianapolis show. A fan who bought VIP tickets.. Thought you should know.
I, unfortunately, do not remember where I read it, but the argument was that we all need all types of friends: - interest based - activity/group based - ride or die - proximity (neighbors/class mates...) But it brought me peace and made so much sense to me - as you said - that it's good/important to have various friends and especially a few close ride or die ones.
I loved this episode! Talking about friends, it's been interesting seeing how people come in and out of my life. And how I have different experiences. With the pandemia and whatnot I've had a hard time keeping up with people and in general just knowing how to text back. Also, recently fell in love with a friend. And before I could take my shot, they started dating someone else... it's been hard, but maybe it was the best course of action? (Don't want to admit it, but some red flags were there) So yeah, hearing this conversation felt refreshing and validating cause I've been a people pleaser and has started noticing all this friendship changes.

Yes, one can insert falafel into pita bread, although it requires a lot of preparation and trust. There are people who get sausage in there as well. You know I started typing this and was like “haha funny I know about this let’s use the analogy” and now I’m just mildly uncomfortable.
I am a people pleaser as well, and I chose to lean into my friendshis with people that left "good voices" inside my head. "You don't have a mean bone in your body." "You're not a bad friend at all. You're a great friend, and that's you're the person everyone calls when they're going through something." "I am never going to be mad at you for standing up for yourself. I love you, and I appreciate you letting me know how you feel." After years in a destructive friendship, these are the voices that I deferred to. They're such good people, like genuinely gook, kind, and compassionate people, and they do not lie. At a time when I couldn't trust my own memory or account, I chose to believe them instead of the nagging voice of my abuser. They gave me a safe space to put myself back together. I am so grateful to have them.

I feel like the intimacy thing is huge- intimacy is so much more than sex. There’s lots of fun things to do together that aren’t sex that make you feel close. My partner and I sit like almost on top of each other and just hug and cuddle if I’m not in the mood but still want to be close. I’ve also seen a really cute ace couple that (or at least one of them is ace) that does body painting for intimacy. Like painting scenery on their partners back. I think there’s a lot of ways to get creative to feel close.

For the person with a different sex drive - would you be ok with just intimacy & not sex? Because I have chronic pain & illness my want is there but I can't always act on it as much as my wife would like. But sometime a quick make-out session or even just a good snuggle time gives her enough to get by. Just her knowing that I do still find her attractive & want to be physical even if my body won't let me, really helps us! Communication will be huge in figuring out a good balance for you both!
