    Flight attendant here! A lot of the sound comes from the engine power required for vertical climb. Once you’ve reached cruise altitude, the engines don’t have to work as hard to maintain that altitude as they do to gain altitude, so that’s likely why the sound gets quieter! The engine is just chilling out ✌🏼 (also pilots feel free to fact check me!)

      And hot tip, pay attention to the flight attendants! You all know when things are okay and when they are not. If the flight attendants are chill, I'm chill. I was a business frequent traveler for 8 years and one flight there was a women in her 30s who had never flown before. I was in her row and she was asking us for tips and what to expect, while still at the gate. She was super nervous and I told her to watch the flight attendants. That's when the guy ahead of my turned around and I realized he was a pilot. He was like "yup, exactly what she said" and that started a whole new conversation about turbulence (sit near or just behind the wings for best stability!) because it turned out that row ahead of us was all flight staff taking a flight to their next destination. It was a super positive interaction and the women did so good and was super proud of herself.

  • @ariannak13
    @ariannak13 8 месяцев назад +67

    Hi there, love the pod! Mattea actually has a point about blood incompatibility. It's not really about the blood type though, but rather the blood Rh (Rhesus) type. If a Rh-negative partner conceives with a Rh-positive partner, there's a chance that the fetus may have a Rh-positive blood type, inherited from the partner who's not carrying. In such cases, if the fetal blood comes into contact with the carrying partner's blood (which can happen during childbirth, miscarriage, abortion, blood transfusions, or certain prenatal procedures), the carrying partner's immune system may produce antibodies against the fetal Rh-positive blood cells, which can be serious or even life-threatening for the evolving baby. This immune response is known as Rh incompatibility or Rh sensitization and is a well-established aspect of immunology and obstetrics.
    So, while having a certain Rh blood type doesn't typically make it harder to get pregnant, it can lead to certain complications during pregnancy, particularly if the partners are not both Rh positive or negative. So, it's essential for the carrying Rh-negative partner to receive proper medical care and follow the recommendations of their doctor to prevent Rh sensitization and associated risks during pregnancy.

    • @Em-jk9ll
      @Em-jk9ll 13 часов назад +1

      Right, it usually becomes more of an issue in subsequent pregnancies, since most of the time the person carrying comes into contact with the blood during childbirth. Then, if you have a subsequent pregnancy with an Rh positive fetus, you are likely to miscarry.

    i feel like the way Mak realized she was queer is becoming the norm for younger generations. older people had to deal with wayyyy more shit and so usually their journey is much more difficult and takes longer, whereas kids today are learning about being queer from a much younger age and it’s generally more accepted, so people are realizing sooner and have more self acceptance

    About the person who wrote in on the patreon, my husband and I are the same in the opposites. We’ve been together for 15 years now and our oldest is 11 now. So around 5 years ago we figured out 2 things. 1. We started making Saturday night our “date night” they were usually at home as by then we had 3 kids but once we put them to bed we would watch a movie, pop popcorn and snuggle until we were ready for sex. The most important thing for me was he agreed to get up Sunday morning when the kids got up to let me sleep in. It gave us both the thing we needed most and neither of us had to be “worried” that we were going to get our top need met. 2. This also helped us figure out that I need to be seduced. All day. It’s simply not in the forefront of my mind unless you make it the forefront. But I also don’t want to feel like I have to as that’s an instant turn off. So, we figured out through trial and error what worked and now we have a lively sex life (even though we no longer “schedule” for Sat night) but I get the sleep I need 😁.

    LOVE THE LOOPS!!! I have engage which is perfect for me. I can’t process what people are saying if there’s background noise and loops help drown it out. I wear them to restaurants, concerts, social gatherings, and at work.
    Apparently I started a trend at work which honestly makes me so happy. A coworker came up to me to say most of the supervisors have loops now because of me, (I’m not a supervisor nor talk about my loops).
    I always get excited when people bring up hearing protection. We gotta protect those hearing, ESPECIALLY AT CONCERTS!!
    I’m going to get the quiet ones before traveling, I reckon it would become a lifesaver for me.

Edit to add: Love Mattea whenever she is on the pod! AND SLEEP is crucial and if she is a mom to a herd of kids she IS exhausted, deal with it and help carry the burden of child rearing, it is more then chores it is talking and emotionally being there for the children and let's face it MOM is God to children especially when young.

    FLARE noise reducing earbuds are great for me. The soft ones don't irritate/pain my ear(canal) and they don't block out too much noise, but somehow still work to feel safer and less anxious. A very big plus for me was that it doesn't change the way you hear yourself talk (which the loops do). In public transport I use overear headphones with noise cancelling (Sony).

    My favorite ear plugs are by the brand Ear Peace! They are mostly clear and pretty unnoticeable in the ear. My favorite part is that it comes with three different inserts that you can swap out that change the intensity of blocking. I think with Loop you need to buy multiple different Loops? but with these you get one pair and can decide what level of awareness/blocking you want.

    I have Loop experiences with the gold rings and Loop quiets in red and I love them. For shows and concerts and public transport. They also have the different sizes of the in ear part for everything. Love opening with ten minutes of ear plug talk, by the way. I think another brand is Calmer, but I haven't tried those. The Loops also have these cute little cases you can put on a key chain that they come with. They are also a little cheaper than I thought. It's funny to be at a concert with them and only hear the music and feel like you're the only one singing along because you don't really hear all audience noise (with the experience ones) but it does make you a little self-conscious sometimes until you realise that it's way louder for others and they cannot hear you even trying to talk to them at normal volume.

    I also recommend Flare audio Calmer if you still want to be aware of your surroundings but less bothered by sounds - they make sharp sounds less sharp and loud eaters less annoying, etc. if I wear them I'm less tired by the end of the day - though often I'm too embarrassed to wear them. But they're more discreet than earphones for sure. I use both flare audios and loop earplugs in different contexts (yes, an embarrassing amount of my money goes into not-hearing aids 😂)

    I just watched this episode today and got so excited about Mak mentioning Loops because I got my first pair of loop earplugs delivered this morning! They’re the loop engage and so far I’m super happy because everything just sounds smoother and softer and less overpowering, but i can still understand people talking to me perfectly. So I don’t get the anxiety of noise cancelling headphones that always make me feel like I’m too unaware of my surroundings or like I might seem rude not realising someone’s talking to me.
    So I think if you’re very noise sensitive and maybe neurodivergent (I’m autistic) they’re perfect!

  • @someoneelse7629

    Regarding Noice cancelling headphones (I have Sony over ear, because I can't use inears when I have migraine) the reason you can feel slight queezy after using noice cancelling is because in fact the headphones play the same noice it cancels, but in opposite phase, wich means you have been listening to a lot of noice.
    The noice canceling is similar on all headphones, but Sony and Apple are regarded to be the best (and most expensive) so I am contemplating to buy Sony in-ears too (not into Apple, at all) to pair with my phone, as I can charge them wireless with my Samsung phone

    I swear by loop ear plugs. I have two pairs and I wear them to concerts and it’s perfect. It drowns out people talking and crowd noise so I’m not overstimulated at big festivals. I also wear them to spin class so I can hear the instructor and not the squeaking bikes. I have sensory issues and they have really changed the way I interact in busy overstimulating places. Can’t say enough about them

  • @emmymorris7648
    @emmymorris7648 7 месяцев назад

    I have to say that I really love that this started out talking about sensory issues and how loud planes are and what earplugs and earbuds work best for Mak and Alayna! I can really relate to what you both were saying! I rely heavily on Flare Calmer ear plugs, which have helped a lot with sensory issues and migraine triggers! They are not noticeable and my family is always asking if I have them in before we go somewhere when I already have them in. So, it’s great that they can help me so much and that I don’t feel like they’re advertising that I’ve got issues with this or that people might think I’m rude like Mak was talking about. I really wish I had found them when I was going to conferences in other states for a previous job as I was relying on swimmers’ earplugs at that time. Even without the plane travel that I used to have, I deal with a TON of plane noises over house that wasn’t a problem when we bought this house years ago. Now that they’ve made the airport bigger, however, the planes are way too many times a day to count. It was the worst possible thing for migraine and seizure triggers! 🙁 The Calmer earplugs reduce the frequency of things so higher pitched and overwhelming loud noises like planes become a thing you’re barely aware of in the background but still let you carry on a conversation with people without your voice or theirs being distorted. They are amazing and have completely changed my life for the better! 😃😃

    I know these pods are recorded way in advance but I wanted to say I really love my loops.
    I got the Engage 2's November last year I think(?) and they are quite pricey - especially if you get some of their higher end more adaptable products - for how easy they are to lose but they've really helped me for stuff like study, grocery shopping, live music, travel etc. Omg if you live in London, England (or I guess anywhere with an underground train system) they are a game changer for all the horrible noises the tube makes.
    The only thing I'd say and I think it's more a me thing than an earplug thing I can't wear them for too long - like more than an hour(?) - because I get headaches from having something in my ear for that long but if you have airpod pros and you don't have that issue with them then you shouldn't have that issue with loops.

    Your doctor can help you with hearing stuff too; they make custom low-profile earplugs with swappable filters.

    I'm not sure about the "sleeping around" title, I feel like pretty quickly you're gonna want to expand beyond the topic and you'll be kind of limited by the title, either you won't allow yourself to explore or the title won't be representative of the diverse content and people might not find your content because they misunderstand what you're talking about (it also might make getting guests a little harder). Can't wait for your pod either way, I'm so excited!!

    My wife has been using Loops for years and she loves them! Great for public spaces and concerts

    Loops are great and I have multiple kinds, including the switch with multiple modes which are great. But if you want less noticeable, I also use transparent Flare earplugs. I used them when I was a server because I needed something that helped with the noise but still allowed me to hear quiet customers in the loud environment. They don't cancel out a lot of noise but I would almost describe it as smoothing the sound out, if that makes sense. It's a small change but really helped with sensory overwhelm by the end of the night.

    @ Mak: i use Calmer by Flare Audio! They're similar to Loop, but I picked them cos they're smaller. I get pain in my ears occasionally (cos theyre sensitive) and sharp noises like traffic is the worst, and these help a lot - which i noticed also reduces my anxiety. I dont need them all the time, but so handy to have when my ears are being ouchie.

    7:25 Engineering, especially in aerospace, where weight is such a huge consideration, is all about managing trade-offs.
    I can totally picture there being a meeting about mitigating the loudness of the ambient noise, and whether it's worth the weight of the insulation, or the heavier, more rigid parts, where one anxious little guy in a short sleeve button up pipes up and says, "well hang on a just a second..."

    I'm sure Alayna's podcast is going to be super successful - it's weird to think about the years in the future when she'll be as big as Esther Perel and I'll have grown up watching her as a peer. Excited to hear it!

    Loop is amazing, I have two kinds and one works for loud crowds and one is for medium level noises. I love them both, and the later one is good for noise dampening

    I have had my loops (engage) for a while now. I like them, but I hear myself really weird which annoys me so much. I do use them when it's really crowded and for school. I'm also allowed to wear them during tests and exams. My mom uses the quiet loops to sleep and a friend of mine has the experience which are for concerts and stuff. I also found a brand online called flare audio. I have not tried their earbuds, but I do want to. I hear great stuff about them too

    Earplug recs: I have flare audio calmer earplugs and they block just a little bit of sound and are SO small people don’t even notice them. I also have the Loop switch, which allow me to choose how much sound I want with a little switch (at the lowest setting they block more than the flare ones). The loops do make my own voice loud to me, which makes me speak quieter to others. They are both good for different situations! I have also heard good things about eargasm ear plugs as well.

    MAK LOOPS have made transparent series they just are plastic colored a little bit but some are peach and look WAY LESS noticeable depending on skin tone but I’m sure the pearl peachy one would be perfect for you and the less noticeable vibe

    I know exactly what they're talking about with the silence with noise cancellation. A couple years ago, I bought a $40 pair of headphones that had active noise cancellation and was like woah.

    Y'ALL I just took a medium length flight and they had completely redone the safety video to parallel what you see in a plane as a tropical Paradise. You're watching the presenter stand in front of the backs of a bunch of people sitting in straight back chairs, in a tropical Paradise. They absolutely engineer that experience. I don't know about the sound. I imagine that what you're hearing is the pressurization turning off. But they engineer everything else

  • @MaeGal

    Yes!! It is totally the sound that triggers my anxiety on planes, too! I got headphones that aren’t noise cancelling but block a vast majority of noise and it is GAME CHANGING.
    Oddly, when that take off engine turns off, that’s when I finally feel as safe as I’ll get on the flight. Take off and landing is the worst for me!

    Loop are super good! I have the quiet one and the switch one! I prefere the Switch since I can change between 3 settings depending on the environement! I tried other noise canceling product and nothing beats loop... particulary with the price!

    I use the loop experience at school because headphones are banned in some classrooms. It’s been so helpful to be able to talk to people but block out all the random noise in the background!

    you only need the plane engine during take off and landing. you don't need it when you're high up there, the wings take over and they lower the throttle so that's why it sounds quiet.

    I tried loops, they blocked sound too much for me. Try "Calmer Flares"
    They are unnoticeable and reduce the intensity of sound. I keep losing them though so bough a pair of the safety ones lol

    i’ve heard mixed reviews on loop earplugs. some people really don’t like how much they can hear their own chewing and talking while wearing loops. an alternative brand is Flare, which are more discreet but have a little less variability in products
