Yeah.... I'm pretty sure most of it is just for her wasted potential. She was likable, though, and she didn't necessarily ever do anything wrong. I'm pretending that her novella doesn't exist, by the way. As we all should.

The reason why she gets so much hate is the fact she preyed on Firestar for a lot of his life despite the fact he was in a happy relationship with Sandstorm. The authors killed her spirit off just so Firestar wouldn’t have to choose between a cat he only knew as a young child and the cat he actually loved. Though I blame most of this on bad writing/bad concepts.
And I’m not good with my memory but I’m pretty sure Sandstorm even brings up at one point that she’s uncomfortable with the whole Spottedleaf thing?

@@nathanielmandrake1500 she didn't prey on him though, literally that's almost every Spottedleaf haters reason on why they hate her. Yes, Spottedleaf was in love with Firestar, but she didn't go over board with it, most of times she would go see Firestar is when he needed help or HE called for HER.
The other times are just FireXSand shippers goin crazy everytime they hear something about Spottedleaf

Spottedleaf is literally one of the only cats to enter Firestar’s dreams and she literally enables his love in her to the point Sandstorm notices and is reasonably upset. It’s bad writing; especially when the Erins explicitly stated their reasons for killing off Spottedleaf’s spirit being purely so that Firestar wouldn’t have to choose a dead woman he barely knew over his lifelong partner.
