Live Steam Gauge One Accucraft K 27 on a passenger run

- On a sunny afternoon I ran my Accucraft D&RGW K-27 with a passenger train. It is a live steam narrow gauge 1:20.3 scale model running on gauge 1 (45mm) track that is correct for scale 3 foot gauge. Apologies for the handheld camera wobbles and it's difficult to keep the train speed slow with a light load while filming. (Manual control not R/C)

Pop rivet bridges are easy to do and look OK, the depot is a Pola kit where I took the back wall and added it as an extension to the front wall ( the back is just a piece of plain plastic sheet as you don't see it) this makes for a more convincing depot but still narrow in depth to fit the space. By the way the engine shed is also Pola where I put three kits together to make the staggered double track shed and raised the whole thing up a little (cloned and cast some stone base wall extensions) to get the door height to fit a K-36.

Ohhhh a beautiful engine, and a very nice train too! Are those coaches adapted from kits, or modified from "scratch"? I'm aware of The GAL Line in US (I have two kits) and there used to be Rio Grande UK in England, which both made conversion kits.
I have my first live steam model on it's way to me: a C-18. Can't wait!

Simon, glad you liked the video, the coaches are Accucraft with the last coach the same but has new sides and cupola made by a guy in the UK as a laser cut wood conversion. The C-18 should be a great loco for you, it looks fabulous.
Really nice. In the curves, do you use accucraft flexible track? Do you nail them? in stones? Are their curved shapes "memorized" in the metal?
I use Llagas Creek aluminium flexible track and I use a rail bender to curve them. The rails are 'loosely' nailed to keep in place but not hard nailed down and loose ballast holds them as well. Great video. I love how you have incorporated ballast and hints of green in your elevated layout. I plan using some of your ideas in my own someday. Is it just scraps of AstroTurf?
Thanks glad you like the layout, yes the 'grass' is just scraps of artificial turf that I rough trimmed so it's not even and cut up into small pieces.

If yes, where did u buy the ties and browned rails? I dink 1/20.3 is a perfect scale for big capacity steaming.
1/13.7 locos tend to get too heavy to carry around 26 - 35lbs even for a Forney, 0-6-2. How hvy is ur K27?
The tracks are not hand laid, only the switches are and I use track and ties from Llagas Creek where I paint the brown on the rails. I sometimes use wood ties on the switches. My K-27 probably weighs around 10 to 12 Kg .
@@steamon45 Thx 4 ur reply w answers. Bc the ties on ur LCrk seems to have real spikes, i thought ur trks r handlaid.
but still, they sure do. Though 1/20.3 is a smaller scale than 1/13.7 (7/8"/ft), ur K-27 is much bigger prototype than the
2' ga Forney and also u have the tender so basically, u don't want to transport it by air. TSA can do a lot of damages
as i've experienced even on my 1/32 scale standard ga. loco. These gorillas r timed to open, inspect, and re-pkg any items
B4 the plane takes off. I remembered even if i shipped the loco via FedEx, these Monkeys damaged my pilot truck flat.
What an Earth for? Someone must of deprived him/her of green banana? Frustrations? I had to find broken pieces n screws
inside the wooden box, the exterior cardboard bx were torn and yellow tape w the TSA acronyms were hastily pasted.
U really need to drive to a steam up w the Big heavy or any locos. It's nut (not) like back in the pre-2001 where u even get
a nice diner or even a nice lunch on long flights. Oh yah, if u still decide to send ur loco via air, be sure to MT the boiler, esp.
the glass water Ga. as the cargo bird's cab and even the psgr plane's underbelly storage section may nut be heated!!!
In ur case, u have a great layout at home so none of the above TSA KingKong rampage would apply...
