The Fit is powered by a small 1.5 Liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 117 horsepower. The Automatic version of the 2012 Honda Fit can muster 28 MPG in the city and 35 MPG on the highway.
The base model 2012 Honda Fit retails for $15,175 making it a great choice for many. The Sport Model gets upgraded body parts including a rear roof wing, fog lights, and more aggressive from bumper and grill. The Sport also gets a set of cool 16-inch rims.
On the inside the Fit can be configured in a number of different ways to increase maximum cargo capacity. The hatchback allows the Fit to be very versatile. My wife and I bought a Honda Fit Sport for her yesterday. After almost 24 hours all I can say is that we are extremely pleased with this car. We bought a 2008 with 47,000 miles and it feels like a new car. The last new Honda I bought was an Element with 6 miles on it, and this one feels alomost more solid than that vehicle. I had a Mazde RX-8 6-speed, and I must say that this car gives that car a run for it's money in handling and beats it in areas like road noise. I recommend this car.
This guy's reviews are excellent. It's great to see someone who tells it like it is and understands the reason and design of a car. It's not a 50K car, it's inexpensive, small, saves gas, but it's the best at what it is designed to accomplish. Helped me make-up my mind on a Fit.
I've had my Fit for 3 months now and it is definitely the best subcompact on the market. Though it is tiny and can fit in very small spots, the interior is very spacious. I am 6-5 and have about 6 inches of head room when sitting straight up! The fit can hold 4 adults quite comfortably with headroom and legroom. My ABSOLUTE favourite part of the car is the trunk space. The sto-and-go seating creates so much storage room that you wil not find in any other sub-compact. Well done Honda.
Do you still have the car? How did it hold up? Considering buying one myself.
A nice honest review! You can tell he was enjoying driving the car
This guy make great reviews.
That elevator music is killing me... nice review though. BTW you were awesome in The Sopranos. LOL
I'd say the Fit and the Yaris are the best A to B efficient/reliable cars out there. You can't go wrong either way.
I drove my friends Fit and I was so surprised at how much I liked it. Very roomy for a small car and it was so peppy I kept peeling out by accident.
Great review
Not a lot of options with this car, you have the base or the sport. Auto or 5spd. DON'T waste money on the NAV if you're getting the auto - its $2000 extra, it sucks (slow and old) and you can get a garman for 100 bucks. If you can drive stick, and you can find one, get it! Very fun and a full second faster to 60mph than the auto.
Absolutely!!!!! That's an excellent choice for the first car.
From what I've seen it looks awesome an I like it!
Love our 2012 Vortex Blue 5spd m/t FIT... it's worth every penny!
I have a 07 fit and I love mine
Im considering gettting one of these at the edn of the year when theyve got some great deals going.
This was the video that sold me my Honda Fit! the smile on that guy is so genuine that i believed him. And once i got mine, I had the same smile and smirk too!
My eyes are set on that car. It's #1 on my wishlist.
Looks feeling fun to drive
I have officially decided to get a Fit! I don't know what year, definitely not a new, but I was leaning towards an Insight, but I'm afraid of the cost of maintaining a hybrid.
Yep, the profile of the Fit is like the broad side of a barn and acts as a sail. But hydroplaning either means he had bad tires or was driving too fast for conditions. The car is very well weight balanced - 50/50 front-to-back so it does not just spin out in snow and rain, but you do have to keep it straight with constant adjustments, and the stock dunlops suck when it's wet.
It wasn't the noise that bugged me, it was that the engine was working too hard, and that would make me nervous about it's longevity since I spend a lot of time on the highway. I test drove and bought an automatic because for some reason the AT's don't run so high in 5th gear. Thanks for your input.
LOVE MY FIT
It's not that loud. You hear the engine but mostly you hear road noise. If you want a car that's Cadillac quiet at cruising speeds then you should not be looking at a B segment Japanese car. The Fit engine is a bullet proof high-revving badass little beast with a great sound. Honda engine's are engineered to reduce friction and last forever. Don't be scared by the high RPMs.
its amazing how huge this car is...bigger than the claustrophobic insight
My neighbors had one with an automatic. They said that the transmission died and assured me that the fluid level in the trans was full. I didn't get a chance to check it before they donated it. Would have been fun to save.
I love my VWs, but I always seem to be running in there for this and that to fixed or tuned and it gets old.
Bought a 2012 Honda Fit (base) a little over a month ago. Awesome on gas, rides well for a sub-compact and I am very satisfied with my purchase. I bought an automatic transmission; which I regret, not because it sucks but because I enjoy driving a stick more. I often find myself throwing the gear down into 3rd for some fun passing maneuvers on the highway. She's a fun car to drive and very sporty. For a sub-compact she's got some giddy up!
I miss my 07 Honda fit
So, this car comes recommended?? Considering it for sure... any suggestions of options worth looking into? Thx.
From what I've read, it sounds like the standard transmission Fit sport runs at an almost uncomfortably high RPM at around sixty. I noticed this when I test drove the 2013 myself. Does anyone one who owns one have any thoughts on this?
Do they have a moonroof/sunroof?
I really want one!
I looked at the fit ,mazda 2 fiesta and sonic . After taking all of this in i went for the six speed turbo sonic . I felt it was the funnest to drive and the least expensive to buy . The fiesta and fit are great cars to . You can't go wrong with them . the mazda well needs help.
It gets 30 city and 40 hwy. He said right there in the review that Honda low-balled the gas mileage.
Fair enough. I don't really know too much about car engines, it just seemed odd to me that it ran so high. Maybe it wasn't really an issue, it just seemed like one of those things that would run me into trouble a few years down the line, ya know? I love my AT anydangway. It's a great little car.
only thing I would change is have a bigger fuel tank 8 gallons gets me almost 300 miles, but still just adding 4 more gallons to get to a 12 gallon tank would be huge
Its such a cute car! Im 5 feet tall and my fiance is 5 feet 3 so this will be a nice car for me. I know our kids will be short probably so I believe the Honda fit will be my next car. I already have a 2003 honda accord. Cant wait to get this car!
Dude, it's a Honda. It is over-engineered for reduced friction, they make the most engines in the world. Honda engines love revving. No torque but you can rev the engines all day. That's why the redline is at 8000.
Nice handbrake slide! :)
You make a fair point, but I don't mind have smaller payments and filling up less often for the remainder of my auto loan.
Hondafit cars all rock!
Test drove the fit manual. For the life of me, I couldn't shift from 1st to 2nd smoothly. Something about the big gap between the 1st and 2nd gear ratios, I am guessing. The clutch is ridiculously light. I had an S2000 and it worked for me. I jumped into a civic Si and could shift smoothly right from the get go. I am scratching my head of this one. I ended up buying the Si.
Buying this car tomorrow! Base model, gonna be my first car. :]
do you still have it?
@@erikh1041 Yes! Still a daily driver. I do oil change/necessary maintenance when required. It hasn't given me any problems.
@@balla7t wow, i just bought the 2010 ex model, i’m happy to hear that it’s been a good car for you. hopefully it will last me many years going forward!
@@balla7t does it do good on the freeway?
@@winslowk.5985 it keeps up not a racer but it keeps up
It sucks that the Fit/Jazz SE here in the Philippines does not come with a manual.
@avlisk Sure, if you drive to work in a straight line.
Yes and no. While people buy these cars mainly for their gas and price point, I think people still want to enjoy their community experience to some degree. With that being said, I would be willing to give up a mpg to have a car I enjoy driving more, especially if it's something you plan to keep for several years.
What is the color called? it looks better than Vortex Blue Pearl
I'm thinking of buying 1 of 3 vehicles; VW Up, Chevy Spark, or Honda Fit. Does anyone care to give me their advice on which is better for this Canadian driver ?
Does the Chevy Spark average 36mpg? Or are you talking the listed mpg? The Fit gets 36 average.
I like it
My problem with this car is the same problem I have with the Accent. How can a engine this small get the same MPG rating as the 140 HP Civic?
Is the Fit with the 5 speed manual quicker than the Civic lx auto?
should I get the 13 or wait for the 14?
hey do u think this a good first car ?
Both 15 and 16s are avilable for the sport rims. Just look at the Honda website where you choose your options. The standard rims are aluminum 15 on the Sport and there is the "optional" !6" that cost $1,196.00 more. You can see the rims difference when you check and un-check this box in options. When it's un-checked, it shows the 15's when it's checked, it shows the 16's. Either way I dont see why you went off about driving a standard. They guy was just letting you know its more fun w/ betterMPG
Did you even listen to review? He said Honda low-balled the gas mileage and that he actually got 40 hwy and 30 city.
Nice E brake.....The Fit is GO!
im somewhat in the same dilemma. From what i hear the 14 in the us wont look any different and may have a few new additions. But it will be made in mexico... so yea
I don't care much about the cargo room, I'm looking for fuel economy, sporty and fun to drive,,this the car for me? Any recommendations..
Its a great car, hella fun to drive with the stick. Test driving an auto after the stick made me cringe at how mug better the stick shift is. Only complaint I have is it doesn't have a 6th gear thus engine noise at highway speeds at 80mph get annoying
I have a 2010 MT and It's not really an issue. If you are looking for a car with an ultra quiet cabin you shouldn't be looking at japanese b segment cars in the first place, but it's the road noise you hear more than the engine noise at 80mph.
@FrancisXLivotiJr Doesn't it have MT overdrive?
This was a 2009 fit review. Not sure why but they changed the intro and title of the video.
For the stretch of your bucks, this car could theoretically last forever or near a million miles that Joe have reached some times ago, compared to the other popular gas savers like the Prius and the incoming CMax (both used battery technology).
The problem with battery technology is that like your cell phone, it hold less charge and less charge each year.
Well said 💯👌
A friend told me he recently was driving his Fit in a rainstorm on the freeway and was blown sideways (aeroplaned) across two lanes by a gust of wind. Also, he says that on long rides he gets headaches and stiff shoulders from the difficulty of holding the car on-course when being passed by large semis or driving over rough, pot-holed roads, as if the car is too light and/or sits too high . . .
Edwina Nearing sounds like your friend is just a complainer. I've had my Honda fit for 5 years. I've taken it on cross country trips and I'm 6'4" and it doesn't bother me when I drive.
What if you have heavy loads will it really bog down this car?
can i buy the fit version sport in mexico?
I cant drive stick shift! But I want one!
You know, I've spoken to 3 dealers recently, and they all said they're driving Hyundais. IDK what to think about that.
has anyone else got 30 mpg city with this Fit?...then it is a no brainer.
dislikes: design, mpg, interior, other than that i would definitely buy this car!
no sat radio? why
The headlights, air dam, and rims are different on the 2012 Fit - this is not a 2012 Fit in the video.
my future car
Hm, that's not a 2012. That is a 2009-2011. The 2012 changed slightly. Different bumper/grille/wheels. Not a huge deal since everything on the inside is basically the same.
Cool.
Mine sooooooon!
@FrancisXLivotiJr wish I can afford a 2012. I'm about to get a deal on 2008 fit sport right now.
I'm going to buy a 2012 fit... when I can afford one in a few years xD
same here
Thats a 2009 or 2010 Fit Sport. The 2012 Has a redesigned front bumper, wheels, and many other things.
What's wrong with manual in traffic? This car is awesome for creeping in traffic with the 5spd - if you do it right you don't have to use brakes at all! 1st and second gear do all the braking for you.
Yes, the car only has 117hp, it weighs 2600lbs so adding any weight affects speed big time. But with the manual you can always just rev the crap out of it to make up for it.
The only thing that comes close is a scion tc . I had a 05
Have you already checked the Peugeot 207? Maybe you should give it a try. ;-)
The part where he says parents buying this for teenagers makes me sad, because a Fit costs around 100k over here. :(
Best car to this day. It stands the test of time
The Kia Rio is a good car. Reliable, but again, just a tad less reliable than the fit. Not as much room inside (which is a necessity for me personally; but that obviously varies). I would say the Rio looks better than the Fit (obviously subjective), but I'd still go with the Fit for my needs. But you might be better off with a Rio, it all depends.
why?
i would buy if the design could be better
Another good thing about the 2012 model is that it's the last year it will be made in Japan for the high quality. I've read online recently that they said the 2013's will possibly be made in Mexico. I have not yet confirmed that but that's they same way the big 3 American companies lost all their sales. By trying to get by cheap and build all their economy cars in crappy old Me-hi-co where they are notorious for HORRIBLE quality and reliability. They will lose a lot of customers if they do this!
As of 2016, Honda Fits were made in Japan, USA, Mexico, etc...The VIN # will tell you where the car was made. First choice is: Japan; USA, 2nd. Horrible PAINT & other issues with the cars made below the southern border....
Never tell a NEW standard driver to even touch the gas pedal until they get the idea of feeling the friction zone where they can feel the clutch engage. When you first feel it, keep letting out slowly until you feel the car rolling. Once the clutch is completely released, then they can start accelerating. If they do it your way they will just end up jerking the car back and fourth and possibly cutting the engine which would require re-starting. Your way and suggestion is the worst and mot common
Looks good and fuel economy is like wtf
that isn't the 2012. The grill doesn't go from light to light and the rims aren't the machine finished cool looking rims. That's a 2011 model.
that isn't the 2012 model. the 2012 model's grill goes from light to light and the rims are machine finished. that's the 2011 model
It's blue, and he said "It's small, but it's really big inside."
So, bigger on the inside, eh? This Whoovian approves.
Everyone I talk to who has a recent one says they're good cars. What is your proof the Hyundais in the last 2-3 yrs are not reliable?
All you guys talking about the Accord vs. Fit video should see the Camry vs Yaris one...don't complain about the safety...Incidentally, what's all this about high rev speeds on the highway? A) What's wrong with that? and B) Show me a small-engine car with a manual that has low rev speeds on a highway.
Explain.
But it is made in Japan, not UK or Canada like the Civic. The shipping cost made them reduced the weight of the car, or some of the quality of the steel. The Fit is very very fragile. I have test drive one and it slower than the Civic but mpg is nearly the same as the Prius. So why bother with the new technology???
Oops! I meant "hydroplaned" . . .
