      Every industry has a few companies that dominate. From food to tech to glasses. I love that we have companies like Warby Parker that offer decent quality with trendy looks but they still are not at the same level as companies that have poured millions upon millions of dollars into R&D.
      I'm actually a fan of independent eyewear brands. That's why our retail division only carries such lines. They innovate and offer high quality products without feeding the beast that is Luxottica.
      There are good products at sub $100 prices, but most are a few years behind the quality offered by companies like Crizal and Zeiss. I can't tell you how often people come back after buying from Wallmart, Costco, Warby Parker and Zenni. Happens all the time.

Have you ever come across - Rayemiron Uncommunicative Release - (do a google search ) ? It is an awesome one of a kind product for discovering how to improve your eyesight naturally without the normal expense. Ive heard some interesting things about it and my friend got excellent results with it.

      @@EyeInfluence Sorry but total B.S. I’ve bought excellent quality glasses at Walmart and Zenni & EyeBuyDirect. The key is to TAKE CARE OF YOUR GLASSES!!!! Don’t leave them all over the house to get stepped or so that the baby or the dog can get ahold of them and destroy them. Always keep them in a case when they are in your purse or in the cars glove box. Handle them with care, be gentle with them. Never rip them sideways off your face like they do in the movies. Use both hands to remove your glasses and to put them on. At night lay them flat on the nightstand, don’t fold them up because it’s hard on the screws and hinges. Take them to an optical shop for adjustments or to tighten the screws. I’m not about to risk breaking my glasses by attempting to do my own adjustments. Most shops will do adjustments for free. I’ve worn glasses since the 4th grade so I’ve learned these lessons the hard way. I had to school my husband because he’s just started to have to wear glasses & he thought ripping them off his head sideways was acceptable behavior. I told him it’s a good way to break them and then have to replace them.

      Yep Luxottica is the reason. What was once $300-$400 20 years ago, the last time I could afford new glasses from Lens Crafters, I just ordered the same thing for $50 to my door from Zenni. You almost don't even need an optician appointment for prescription anymore either. I just bought the EyeQue home vision tester to order new glasses. Hope they turn out well.

    So here is a tip that I use to save money, buy your frames on Ebay. You can find some quality Guess Frames, Nautica Frames, Flexon Frames, etc for $25.00. Yes some of these frames may not be the most up to date but most of them come with a case, cleaning cloth or even a sunglasses clip.
    Keep some of your older frames and have new lenses put into them. I have a pair of Hart Schaffner Marx frames from 1999 and I have put three sets of lenses in them. Also metal frames do hold up better than plastic typically, especially if you accidentally sit on them. I have sat on my Hart Schaffner Marx frames twice, bent the frames and was able to straighten them out. A lot of time people don't like metal frames because they pinch the wearer's nose and that is why the wearer chooses plastic.

    The real truth why glasses so expensive is because of a Italian company called “Luxotica” they literally own ray-ban, oakley, dolce-gababna, channel, even lens crafters, but they do not make lenses only frames, Oakley was the last major competitor to Luxotica until Luxotica stop selling oakley in all their stores (i.e. lens crafters) because of differences in cusumer cost, until 2007 when oakley was really plumbeting in the stock market , oakley then didnt have to but they disnt want to file chapter 11,12,etc... so they sold out to “Luxotica”, & that is the real truth, all facts be my guest to do the research , its really fuccd up after u take it all in and realize fucc italy !

    • @EyeInfluence
      @EyeInfluence  5 лет назад

      Sorry but that’s not the reason why Glasses cost what they cost. Yes, Luxottica has a monopoly but there are other very large companies out there. The reason why Glasses cost as much as they do is because the consumer is willing to pay. Same goes for tech companies, mattress companies and any other industry. Pick one and you’ll find a Luxottica type company which dominates it. Ultimately the consumer makes these companies what they are so we are all to blame.

    Buy your frames direct from the manufacturer- up to 50% cheaper than from the retailer. Then send the frames off to an online retailer to be glazed with your prescription. My Oakley were £109 direct from their website and were £64 to be glazed. If I’d gone to an opticians the same pair glazed would have been £450

    Just a bit sensitive to the numbers: $500 Glasses / 730 (2 years) = 0.69$ / Day, not 0.69 cents per day (that's 100 times difference). Anyway, still have a hard time time to justify why glasses are so expensive. Seems lack of competition is the main reason.

  • @Merle1987
    @Merle1987 Год назад

    A couple hundred dollars on glasses?! Lol. I have a strong prescription and astigmatism. Frames and lenses after taxes equals $680 CAD! If it was around $350 I would feel like I wasn't being assaulted. Even though I'm broke and still paying off Revenue Canada, I still shelled out for lenses and frames from my real optician because I don't want to deal with the bullcrap of ill-fitting frames and poorly calibrated lenses. To add insult to injury, I have to wait two weeks to get my glasses, so now I'm walking around with electrical tape on the arm of my glasses (Hugo Boss, by the way), because the coating on the arm started crumbling off about a year ago and reached condition critical yesterday.

    An eye glass is a piece of flimsy plastic. It really doesn't make sense that it should cost as much as the peak technology like a mobile phone which contains billions of very advanced, very tiny, very complex machineries that have to be carefully arranged so that it can actually do billions of computations each second. That is modern magic, eyeglass is a piece of plastic that isn't really that much more complicated than Lego parts.
    It doesn't cost the lens manufacturer $50 dollars to add a coating. This is something that really costs the lens manufacturers only a few cents.
    The eye glass industry doesn't really have "innovations" per se, as much as it's really just a bunch of fashion fads. Most of the core innovations, technologies that actually matters, have already happened decades ago.
    In any reasonable industry, the price of these technologies would've gone down over the years as manufacturing improved and R&D costs are recouped, that is not the case with eyewear technologies.

    I think the biggest problem for a lot of people would be the.. trickle cost compared to the bucket. Spending 10 bucks a week, that happens, it's within budget. Spending 500, they can't do that. Now were they to save those 10 bucks they could easily afford it, but a lot of people just spend it sadly.
    I fully agree with your comparison! You spend loads of money on waking up every day (coffee). Why not spend half of that on actually being able to improve your quality of life

    • @EyeInfluence
      @EyeInfluence  6 лет назад

      There is plenty of psychological influence there. The upfront cost of glasses can be intimidating and gives the impression that they are "expensive". I just wanted to put things into perspective.
      Wireless providers did the same with phones. People upgrade more often now when they only see the $50 or so monthly cost of the phone instead of the $700+ true cost. And the crazy part is, most these days never own the phone because they trade it in. Maybe I should've put that in the video haha.

  • @rudy6274

    Good video. I don't see anything wrong with buying good quality items. The issue is going to LensCrafter and spending $500 on a pair of glasses that are mediocre and they are Ray Bans. A lot of us want to spend money on a great product but not get ripped off because of the name brand. My last three pairs of glasses have been Ray-Bans and I've had nothing but issues with them. Sorry just a little frustrated and looking for a better option. I just recently decided to go with a local shop and just purchased a no-name brand and that it was already good price still more than Warby Parker but just going a different route tired of spending so much on Ray-Bans and they don't last and when I look at what LensCrafters has offer it all seems the same I know they're owned by luxottica

    • @EyeInfluence
      @EyeInfluence  6 лет назад +1

      Rayban is a unique brand because they are the most mass produced glasses in the world. Much like apple products, they are everywhere and just about everyone has either owned one or eventually will. Producing anything at that rate is bound to cause problems. Rayban also recently (2 years ago) moved their factory to China so that could also start causing some quality issues. Not so much because of the labor force or materials, but because moving anything that massive will take time to settle.
      I'm a big fan of independent eyewear companies. They make smaller quantities and they know they don't have a second or third chance to impress the consumer. They have one shot (I hear the 8 mile song playing in the background for some reason) to make a good impression and that forces them to make a superior product. Prodesign Denmark, OWP, Randolph USA, LaFont and many more are great options.
      That's just the frames. The lens options available outside of Lenscrafters, Walmart, CostCo and even Warby Parker can be far superior when purchased at a private office. Though this will soon change. Luxottica, the company that owns Lenscrafters, just merged with Essilor, the makers of Crizal coatings and Transitions. Essilor is the world's leading producer of lenses.
