The one thing that surprised me about the environments of Rise is not only did they have more verticality due to the wirebug but also there are many hidden nooks and crannies that aren't obvious to find unless you're purposely looking for them. I watched a video of a mining route in the Lava Caverns which eventually wounded up in a whole secret room with a bunch of ores and a rare endemic life living there. Super cool and encourages players to just explore!
World had that too. Some locales were legit a fucking maze with many secret areas and rare versions of forna and flora found in these areas. Some rare endemic life could only be found either at night time or day time. I'm glad rise has this too ^^
It really is. This one takes the ideas of mhworld and perfectly blends them with the more handheld iterations. The animations in this one are especially great... I actually WANT to be paralyzed.

@Mr. Bruh the first time I saw that blue sky in MGS V demo mission and glaze over huge desert map, I was extremely impressed. Fox still is my favorite, but RE definitely close second.
Monster hunter rise is my first monster hunter game. I felt like the progression was a little too fast until I looked at my 60 hours of play time that I had already achieved within the first week of the game being released

All monster hunter games have got massive changes to their post-launch states. If you're into it, just wait for new endgame monsters that will push you into the 200 hour mark!
Obviously World is going to win in the looks department overall, but wow, Rise seems more impressive considering what they are working with on the Switch.

My favorite part of MH: world is the scale of the worlds themselves, actually having to track and look for the monster in a fairly sized map made it feel like a hunt and having the endemic life there when you need them, allowing you to actively interact with them for strategic maneuvers (including the scarce wedge beetles) made you feel like an outdoors master when you pulled it off. From what I see from rise (don’t own a switch sadly so can’t play it yet) it sort of sacrificed that grand, interactive hunting feel for fly around the map, run into bugs, and slap the monster till it drops. The one thing I’ve seen that I like from rise is the dogs and more open arenas cuz world was pretty claustrophobic and lane like at times, especially the coral highlands
World is still my favourite monster hunter of all time. I had such a wonderful experience and finishing the game with the awesome work done on the legendary Fatalis was perfect.
Monster Hunter’s franchise is on my top ten favorite gaming franchises. It’s up there with Halo, The Legend Of Zelda, God Of War, Pokémon, Mortal Kombat, between others.
I remember being really wowed by monster hunter titles on the 3ds at the time of release and now I'm in awe with the switch version, it's so beautiful.
Yes rise isn't the beautiful cinematic masterpiece that world was.. but then again, it was developed for hardware that's about 60% as powerful as a ps4 or Xbox one and about 40% as powerful as a pro or one x. Plus world is going to look better since you're playing it on a pc capable of 4k 60+fps. Given the limitations of the hardware.. rise is an amazing game.
It's actually closer to 40% of the base ps4 and 20% of the pro. Rise is extremely good for what it runs on. For a pc comparison the switch gpu runs slightly slower than a gtx 1030 while docked.
@Crimson Ray lol as a pc gamer. I have both as well the ps5 & Xbox . For a portable device with low specs it’s a damn good looking game is what I was saying.
@Crimson Ray Even on pc Rise won't look as good as World, The pc version is most likely a port and not a whole new version of the game built from the ground up.
If someone complains about the graphics then they only played MH World. Let's not forget that this series dominated the PSP and 3DS handhelds and sold gangbusters!!!

Or how you would wander aimlessly looking for the monster unless you saw the guy in the balloon and then you had to refind it after it left and you forgot to paintball it. Good times.
I really think it's become hard to go back to pre-world, even though the games are easier, less deep and less balanced, the simple addition of continuous maps makes it really difficult to play earlier games
I would normally agree but I think World changed Monster Hunter forever. The World team completely re-imagined core features of the series, there were many things I didn't like as a veteran hunter but now we've got all the best bits in the portable games I don't think I can go back to the old titles.
Not that hard to overshadow, when you just completely butcher the old one and leave it to rot. Iceborne dlc was a trainwreck and weapon balance is something they could easily fix, but don't.
Absolutely love Rise. Honestly my only minor things I would still love to see added are: If we capture a monster, would like to be able to see it somewhere Bring back those huge culinary meals
I know this is an old video but I still prefer World to Rise. World just feels more fluid and seemless. Rise feels more clunky to me. And there are a number of elements from World that I loved that are no longer present in Rise. The only thing I would miss from Rise that World doesn't have is everything surrounding the buddies (the addition of palamutes, buddy island, etc).
Lol yah, I thought world was the clunkier less seamless one. Also I like the lack of scout flames polluting my screen in rise. I find in world it takes away from my immersion. Both great games though. And your opinion is still valid by all means
I think Capcom is continuing with two similar but separate Monster Hunter series'. World for their overseas fanbase and Rise for the JP and/or portable fanbase.
@@ronn201 Or they're just gunna make games for their audience. @Lockz1111 This kind of cross-platform play montanacb7 suggested undermines the point of the publisher's own hardware, so it's something that'll never happen. As for making a MHR version on other consoles, eh, it's possible. There was Zombi, or No More Heroes, or a few others where a weaker platform's game got a release on a stronger platform with a graphics overhaul. But why devote resources to rerelease MHR when they could make MHW2 with MHR's QoL instead?
@@ronn201 How does having cross save undermine the hardware for Nintendo? I think developers like Capcom would be pushing for it since it would drive many players to purchase the game twice. Nintendo would also benefit because people might be more willing to buy and play switch when previously they only played PC/console. In all reality I don't expect for Nintendo to allow for cross save with the restrictions they like to put on developers of AAA games. It would just be nice as Capcom will inevitably get my dollar when the PC version release's next year.
I’m hoping if they port this to pc and consoles we can get a revamp in graphics to be the same or better than world. Game still plays fine and is smooth just when you come off World it feels like a huge downgrade
What I'm most interested in knowing is whether Rise is as BIG of a game. World has a decent length story and if played right can last hours and hours. It would be a dealbreaker for me if they've compromised on game length and the sheer amount of content.
12:39 Idk what you did but monster hunter world actually has better sound design and quality Its dynamic audio is more accurate and it also supports surround sound 7.1,while rise does not support either of these
Hey Nick, just a quick grammar note (sorry to be *that guy*) at 7:58 you mention rise's disadvantage being "exasperated", but I think you meant "exacerbated". The first means annoyed or fed up with something, while the second means to be made worse or deteriorated to a greater extent by it.
Bro, you need to check your eyes. The visuals arent slightly inferior. They are VASTLY inferior! I am playing Rise on PC and compared to World its extremely ugly, and that when I am using the visual upgrades they made for the PC version. They had to downgrade the game so much to make it run on Switch, and it really shows now that I am playing the port on PC. I cannot even imagine how bad it looks on Switch...
If you encountered them in a transitional area, they will leave. If you encountered them in a central area where combat generally takes place, they won't, probably. The reason I say probably is because monsters have a hidden timer for how long they either rest or fight in a certain area before they decide to transition to the next area. You could encounter the monster in a general fighting area but then it runs away immediately. That's cause it was gonna leave anyway. Hope this helps :)
the whole game looks unpolished. To much rough edges and missing textures...it looks void and empty. I seriously thought the name World meant that they plant more than 1 DLC. The Demo i played from rise gave me these bad dynasty waarriors vibe....
I’d love to see how rise develops in the future. Something that I kept noticing in rise is the lack of dynamic texture. I understand the switch isn’t as strong but I believe they could’ve pushed a bit further with world textures
They’re both valid approaches and provide unique experiences. Rise is more in line with the series at large though, which has always focused on more open arena style areas. But it’s more closely aligned to World than previous games. It’s a happy middle ground.
the tighter spaces and copious amounts of uneven terrain in world made fighting monsters a pain. youd constantly be accidentally hopping on and off ledges or accidentally sliding around while trying to do your attacks, all of which messed up your combos
Love your videos! Would u be able to do a MHGU vs rise as well to compare the other switch one? I know its originally a 3ds game but would still be cool to see the 2 side by side.
I can't await how great would be MHW 2 on the new generations. Capcom has achieved a milestone with MHW. I don't own a Switch, but I saw how greatly they integrated the Resources for Rise on this System. With that knowledge, the next coming title on the next Gen like Ps5 and XSX can only be amazing.
I wish every review / comparison was as detailed and simplified as this. Short but sweet with all the important gaming mechanics, visuals, gameplay and feel covered! Massive thumbs up to the comparison, it covers everything really important to know and nothing irrelevant unlike other reviews which cover minor and irrelevant points.
This was a technical comparison. A review is something else. Games are still an artistic medium and as such they get appropriate reviews. If you wasnt just tech rundown of comparison like a product, then yeas, this is what is meant for that. But it would be sad for the whole medium if you would just do reviews of games like you would compare the just like products. yeah, for cars you can do with comparing horsepower and engine performance, but for an artistic medium that only wont cut it.
Don't get your hopes up. Remember that MHW's PC mode arrived with worse textures than console, abysmal performance, settings that did absolutely nothing, others that NUKE performance (Volumetric Fog/Lighting), and the game was running far too many threads in the background. Oh and Capcom added a particularly bad form of DRM post-Iceborne launch that broke a ton of mods.

Monster hunter rise is such an amazing game that even if is a portable game, you can actually compare it with the non portable consoles and is not bad at all. I mean, wow!
MH Rise looks to give a more nostalgic feel to older games like MHFU. I used to play that ALL the time and this looks just like it but better and more simplistic compared to MHW
I like how they improved the Game in its System. MHR ist a beautiful Game, but none the less a quite notable downgrade from the graphical standard compared to world. As sad as it is, the visual quality feels especially important to Monsterhunter games. I cant blame Capcom to do a switch game since Monsterhunter has always been a great Handheld title, but I blame Nintendo for their inferior technical standards. Seriously, the graphics almost look like the graphics of one of these old PSP titles.
Wirebugs, the killer of all the old moves. i just see people spam their strongest wirebug attack and thats it. its more a "where can i put that one strong attack in" type of playstyle, when in world it was "when do i get the chance of hitting the monster with the correct moves that wont get me punished" personaly i realy dont like rise at all. world all the way baby
Put all the details.. It will run okay on the switch.. In 240p.. You know why they lack details?? Because they made this game for portable first and dock mode to upscale the game a little.. From what i seen, they not using all graphical power of the switch, heck even Xenoblade Chronicle X on Wii U look more technical impressive to me.. Because portable mode holding back all the games, thats what developers said in the interview.
Monster Hunter World on the Xbox One is actual 864p, not 900p. Also, the resolution on Rise is 756p, not 720p. Capcom is delivering a better framerate at near the same resolution as an Xbox console from the same generation on a handheld. Think about that for a second.
Semantics. I know the resolution is slightly different - but the general approximation is all that matters here. The difference between 864p and 900p is indistinguishable
*with severely reduced textures, smaller maps, less particles, etc* game looks like a ps3 game at best. You're trying to cherry pick the resolution on the one then completely redacted by stating the switches resolution as if 756p looks leagues better then 720p
Lmao.. It good enough for cheap tablet and not to forget, switch SOC actually underclock for portable purpose.. The reason switch capable running Rise already impressive if you ask me..
One thing I noticed about the sounds in MHW, Most weapons within a single type would usually have the same sound effects regardless of design. I typically play Charge Blade and whether I am using Metal base weapon, or the Kushala Charge blade, the sound effects of transforming the weapon or even just swinging it sound the game. But in MH: Rise, I am noticing different sounds depending on the design. The Tetranadon charge blade sounds VERY different from the Magnamalo Charge blade. for example. There's something of a "spectral" sound effect when swinging the Magnamalo weapon around. So that is one area that Rise Improved over World in terms of presentation. Overall Rise looks alot better then expected. World obviously has better graphics but Rise is no slouch either.
You're right. World is the only game where weapon sounds were (mostly) the same regardless of which ones you used. The only exception I can think of are the kulve taroth weapons. They have this kind of metallic chime sound to it since the weapons are made of gold. Good observation tho
When MH Ryse hits PC, I'll be looking forward to a mod that lowers or removes most of the particle effects. Those exaggerated effects burn my eyes the same way Genshin Impact did, or Nioh and Nioh 2. I love the particle effects when done right, like the moonlight greatsword in Bloodborne for example, but having exaggerated amounts is painful to watch, I can't bear that.
Considering it's running on the Switch, Rise looks really impressive. If the only graphical improvements its PC port will give us are high resolution textures, unlocked framerate and proper anti-aliasing, I'd be more than satisfied.
Monster Hunter Rise is on PC now. And it still looks garbage compared to World. They basically just ported it instead of letting you actually make it look good.
The worlds are literally half the size with added verticality supposedly, when monster Hunter world had tons of different levels to areas and plenty of verticality. And they actually added controllable mounts and all this extra terrain traversal stuff that isn't even used to its full potential because the maps are nowhere near as big. so fucking frustrating, not to mention the game looks like it's from like 2008. I don't know why they didn't just keep releasing DLC for monster Hunter world if they weren't going to release the next game on all platforms FML. Also you could get plenty of items from the smaller monsters roaming around they didn't drop power-ups because that's what a lot of the different plants did, not to mention crafting on the fly and going back to base camps to be able to craft up whatever you needed and then heading back to the hunt. Every animal dropping a power up makes this game seem laughably easy. Did you even actually play monster Hunter world for more than a few hours?
I'm not a huge fan of MHR's artstyle, I love the characters and monsters but some of the environments not so much. Even with the system limitations, I feel like it could look better with a more appealing color palette and a more creative design with some of the textures to create the illusion of more depth and variety. the cloudy weather also takes out a lot of the contrast and depth from the scenes. I also feel like many of the rock formations are kinda flat compared to a game like xenoblade or Dragonquest 11 for example where the rock formations had a higher geometric complexity and texturework complments that even which gave the scenes more complexity and depth. But thes are different, games running on different engines so it might be system limitations after all. Plus it's just my opinion and taste. I still love the game and graphics really aren't that important to me at the end of the day.
The docked resolution is actually 756p, not 720. Although 36 pixels might not seem like a lot, it can go a long way in terms of sharpness and clarity. Plus the game seems to have dynamic resolution. I've played it for 25 hours now, and the resolution in handheld seems to jump above 540p on certain maps. For example, in the Lava Caverns map where you hunt Volvidon and Basarios, the graininess from the 540p average resolution almost disappears and the game looks way sharper. I'm speculating here, but I think this is because the Lava Caverns have no foliage and the CPU and GPU of the Switch can use that leftover power to make the whole picture crisper. It looked like 640-720p in handheld when I was playing it in handheld on that map.
Oh man I really want to go back in time and play all the older MH games, just to see the improvements MH made over the years. Feels like I missed out on a lot of things there. I want to have a wave of nostalgia too you know.

Seconding the recommendation for 4Ultimate! It's what really got me into Monster Hunter way back, it's a great game. If you get a chance to pick it up, go for it!

Missed some stuff on the mount. You can also trigger it by doing wirebug attacks, it is a stacking chance for it to proc when you do them. You can also run the monster into other monsters, or a wall, for damage and to knock down the target monster, and then press B to re-mount so long as you have wirebugs, which refresh both when you mount the monster, and when you finally dismount. Dismounting also throws you in the air, giving you a free aerial attack.

I watched a video of a mining route in the Lava Caverns which eventually wounded up in a whole secret room with a bunch of ores and a rare endemic life living there. Super cool and encourages players to just explore!
That rare endemic life scared the shit out of me, I was drowsy and starting to nod off, then it sqwacked.
I absolutely love that about Rise.
World had that too. Some locales were legit a fucking maze with many secret areas and rare versions of forna and flora found in these areas. Some rare endemic life could only be found either at night time or day time. I'm glad rise has this too ^^
World also has that it has a whole hidden mini village with secret one use items for trade
Monster Hunter is just an all around beautiful game series.

Wdym? World and Rise made the old games obsolete garbage
I really think it's become hard to go back to pre-world, even though the games are easier, less deep and less balanced, the simple addition of continuous maps makes it really difficult to play earlier games
I can't go back to old MH games because the wirebug is just that much of an upgrade. It turns slow and sluggish combat into action-packed fun.

@Lockz1111 This kind of cross-platform play montanacb7 suggested undermines the point of the publisher's own hardware, so it's something that'll never happen.
As for making a MHR version on other consoles, eh, it's possible. One thing capcom does right is, makes monster hunter look, and run good on Nintendo hardware. Rise is awesome.
Something i noticed in World is that monsters tend to run as soon as you find them, and i'm glad Rise doesn't seem to have this problem yet
Hope this helps :)

the tighter spaces and copious amounts of uneven terrain in world made fighting monsters a pain. youd constantly be accidentally hopping on and off ledges or accidentally sliding around while trying to do your attacks, all of which messed up your combos

Semantics. I know the resolution is slightly different - but the general approximation is all that matters here. The difference between 864p and 900p is indistinguishable
900p and 1080p also not that much..

But in MH: Rise, I am noticing different sounds depending on the design. The Tetranadon charge blade sounds VERY different from the Magnamalo Charge blade. for example. You're right. World is the only game where weapon sounds were (mostly) the same regardless of which ones you used. The only exception I can think of are the kulve taroth weapons. They have this kind of metallic chime sound to it since the weapons are made of gold.

Try Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate on the 3DS. One of the best games in the series
@@Galohide After I read your comment, I watched a review of MH 4 Ultimate on YT and OMG was I blown away. I never knew there were villages in that game. My first ever MH game was MH World, then came MH Rise and they don't really seem to have a lot of "active" civilization from what I've seen. I'm really considering buying it for my 2DS. Oh! and thank you for the recommendation 😊
@@maykaeppeli I bought it again last month to soothe the itch for MH Rise. Its a great game.
Seconding the recommendation for 4Ultimate! It's what really got me into Monster Hunter way back, it's a great game. If you get a chance to pick it up, go for it!
Honestly going back to the older ones will feel really odd since you won’t be able to do a lot of the mechanics you could do in world. But if you really are curious then MH4U like everyone is suggesting is the furthest you should go back. Maybe MH generations on the 3ds is pretty good too tho I personally didn’t put much hours into that one as I did with MH4U
The resolution in dock mode is 756p.
On portable is 540p.
I was wondering why it looked like a ps2 game lol
960x540 for Handheld
1344x756 for Docked
@@mono_dev8 960x540 = 540p 1344x756 = 756p... LOL.
@@elekktrik_0339 Dude, it looks better than some PS4 games lmfao, and definitely better than PS3, X box 360 idiot
@@elekktrik_0339 Look up a PS2 Game, then Come back before being an Idiot.
6:30 oof those are two completely different maps buds. Hoarfrost reach was new to the series in iceborne and frost islands is the one in rise. Again completely new map to the series as of rise
