The amount of water intake/output that is 'normal' depends on environment, hydration of foods, exercise and other factors. Comparison with water intake/output of other kids in similar context may be helpful. If hers is substantially higher, then I think getting a medical check-up would be wise. Diabetes is not impossible, and there are other potentially treatable causes of abnormal water balance.

We use in China in my hometown to make congee to give to new moms and help them to recoup from giving birth to babies. Wonderful grain. It is a super food in my country.
I love millet, I add it to brown rice when I cook it. I love to cook and cool it added to salads. But my favorite recipe is Millet & wild rice “polenta” and roasted vegetable white bean ragout with Herb Tomato Sauce

(Note i am referring to these millets, browntop millet, foxtail millet, barnyard millet, little millet,kodo millet these need to be pre soaked.)
One important thing guys if you are consuming any of these millets (browntop, barnyard, little, foxtail and kodo millet) you need to soak for a minimum of 6hr if they are consumed as whole grain. And enjoy them guys😀
@@smudge8882 no they have lot of fiber so it needed to be soaked so it doesn’t cause excess heat in your body. If you don’t you will understand when going shit. It’s because it’s dry fibre and if it’s not soaked it also won’t cook completely.
Hi Chuck and Dr Hana, just to say that the goodness and life changing benefits of millets is not new. This super seeds have been prevalent in India since thousands of years. It is definitely new in the western world so I am super excited that finally the western world has woken up to this super food and promoting it. Also, I must say that you must do some more research in how to consume these millets as the whole millets need soaking for a minimum of 6 hours to break down its phytic acids and this is really an important part of the cooking process.

Millet is my staple food. I've been eating it all my life. Apart from cooking and eating it, a fantastic recipe is soaking it for 6-8 hours, drain the water and wash thoroughly, add ginger, gloves(a type of spices) if you have any, put in your blender, add some water to blend, after blending, add some more water but not too much, and use a strainer to strain it and wow! you have a millet drink. You may add milk and sugar to taste or you can just drink it without milk or sugar. You may also put it in the fridge if you like cool drinks. And you can also, after blending add little water and strain, add milk and sugar(optional) and put in the freezer to serve as yogurt or icecream. You can as well after blending add water and strain with your strainer and cook as porridge for breakfast (to make porridge, put the solution you have strained in your saucepan and keep stirring to avoid lumps until it thickens to your desired taste, if too thick, add some water while stirring then just when it is about to boil, put the fire off and serve with either milk or sugar to taste.
If you want a double punch, let the millet porridge ferment lightly overnight for probiotics and add a few spoons of plain kefir or yogurt when you eat.
Dr. You are dead wrong. I am type 2 diabetic and thinly built. The more carb or sugar i take my sugar level spikes. Absolutely carb is the deciding factor for high sugar. Ever since i followed the keto diet, my sugar level decreased by 50%.
Not wrong…you are highly insulin resistant. Carbs will spike your sugar when your resistant. Maybe wrong for you. But not everyone. Individuals differ, your results affect you. But that is resistance.

Both are grains. Buck wheat noodles are recommended by Chinese Doctor for their Diabetic patients. While millets are given people just have surgery and women just give birth to gain their strength back. Millets are super food in China. Very nutritious.

You need to soak them ahead of time for like 4 , 5 hours and then you can cook them in instant pot, slow cooker or in whatever way you want to. I eat millets on daily basis and I love it!!
Fructose comes from fruits can only metabolize by the liver...you eat a lot of fruits, you make your liver works a lot harder...after it's metabolize by the liver, it turns into fats. Sugar has 50% sucrose and 50% fructose Fats doesn't affect insulin or sugar level in blood

All the differing opinions from doctors have made me so confused and increased my desire to restrict my food. As a diabetic I have to differ with the doctor. I don’t need to go into an office to see how blood sugars effect me. My blood sugar meter lets me know. I don’t drink anything but water and with a small potato, pasta, bread, rice and beans, fruits like bananas. I mind as well drink soda or eat a candy bar. They send my sugar sky high. Grass fed butter, coconut oil, olive oil, avocados, don’t spike my blood sugar. If anything they regulated my periods and balanced my hormones. It satisfies my hunger. I went from vegetarian to low carb pescatarian and I’ve never felt better. I have fish 2 times a week. My A1c finally dropped from 10.6 to a 4.8. No medication and in record time. My labs are great. I’ve accepted that my body has a certain kind of allergic reaction to some carbs. My mental fog or lethargy is gone. I have an abundance of energy which finally helped me kick the coffee I needed after eating breads, pastas and so on. I use to experience what is called carb coma after I’d consume those foods. My mind did not have a off button for those foods because I was always stuffed but hungry. At the end of the day you have to what is right for you. If one thing does not work, then find another.
Have you ever gone truly low fat? Are you a healthy weight? If not then the carbs will still impact you greatly. Because the fat in your body blocks the release of insulin. You are taking this out of its full context
@@maryellenbunce7751 I grew up in the era of that crazy woman from “stop the insanity”. My mother had her book and exercise video. She taught me how to looked for fat everywhere. When I had chicken breast, which was the only meat I ate because it was lean I use to Squeeze the meat with a napkin. I was petrified because diabetes runs in my fathers side of the family. For this reason my mother wanted me to eat as healthy as possible. I practically blame my family for getting sick. They use to eat their fried chicken and fried foods, Along with the McDonald’s, chips and sodas. I felt that they went looking for diabetes. I had seen diabetic amputations and blindness from an early age. So I was a health nut. I was fine through my late teens and twenties but when my 30’s hit I started gaining weight. I decided to become a vegetarian. I did skimmed milk and did not consume cheese. The weight slowed down but it continued. In hindsight I should have consumed more greens but I love my wheat bread, Pasta, rice and beans with sautéed eggplant, potatoes. I have Juicer so I made my beets,carrots, and orange juice which I still love. At around 32 I just could not stay satisfied and was hungry more often. I started putting on weight. At my physical everything was great including my morning blood sugar. I did not understand the concept of blood sugar vs insulin. I did not know that my body would make more insulin to compensate for a sugar overload. That blood sugars show up when the body no longer makes enough insulin to bring that sugar back to base. I also blamed my lbs gain on my desk job. My supervisor told me that everyone gains at least 10lbs in the first year. I was gaining more weight, another year another physical and my fasting blood sugar was fine. But I was uncontrollably hungry. In five years I gained 40lbs. I skipped 2 physicals which was my mistake and completely irresponsible. One day I felt like I was going to pass out. I was fatigue, could no longer stand, and could not breathe. I was rushed to the ER and after some tests they found out I had a mini stroke. I could barely move my left leg. My left arm was weak. They took my blood sugar and it at 303. I still remember because it was shocking. My regular doctor never did an a1c or a GTS. Nor did I know about those tests. I bought a meter which I should have always had and started testing my morning blood sugars and the foods that I ate. Everything I loved was stressing my pancreas and liver. I had to loose weight but could not go for a walk much less a run and was desperately looking for a way to loose weight and lower my blood sugar. I still had shortness of breath and fatigue. I know a-mini stroke is a warning of a big one. So what ever I did in the past was obviously not working. I thought of just going vegan but the only things I consumed that were different were pasture raised eggs that I got from a friend that has chickens and organic skimmed milk. Low carb high fat goes against everything I believed but I kept reading on it and researching the diet. I ran into Dr. Bernstein, Dr. Berry, Dr. Berg, Dr Jason Fung a nephrologist and diabetes specialist who was talking about keto, also low carb and fasting. I found Dr. Pradip Jamnadas a cardiologist that is recommending low carb and fasting. These doctors spoke with scientific research to back up there lectures. Still reluctantly I did low carb high fat. By fat I mean avocados, nuts and seeds, olive oils, I started to add grass fed butter. Even in my coffee and I started seeing results. I kept waiting to see if all that fat would give me chest pains but I felt better. My shortness of breath improved with intermittent fasting. I was not hungry and I was loosing weight without exercise. To my surprise, if you need to lower blood sugar fast, low carb will do it that’s besides the weight loss. If you need to lower high insulin levels intermittent fasting will do it. All I am saying is that if something does not work for you. You have to try another way. You can’t get stuck on dogma if your life is at stake. I am within the right weight for my height and age. I fluctuate between 3 to 5 lbs. I have recovered 100% and I’ve never felt better. I eat a ton of low glycemic cruciferous veggies, for fruits I have berries. For protein I now eat small amounts of salmon and sardines which also adds to the fats. I had to learn how to cook and eat differently but my 8 year old twins are more then worth it. I do not want to be burden for them and I want to be there through all their graduations and mile stones.

Yet in my case fat did not make me fat, complex carbohydrates did. It might not be the case for a normal person but I have a predisposition for type 2 diabetes. Think of it this way, not every fat person is a diabetic. Nor does it mean they are going to get diabetes. In order for that theory to be completely true, every fat person with a belly should be a diabetic. I was not fat I was stocky like Dr. Milton Mill. He is fine, yet I got diabetes. I have vegetarian friends that are of Indian heritage, who are also chunky. As far as I know they’re not diabetics, although they are seeing an increase in their community. I am not completely clear as to where it comes from but I definitely know a way to get it out of my life without meds and for that I am grateful.
I am thoroughly confused. One thing on utube says millet flour good for diabetics. I have prediabetes. Another says millet flour is not good for diabetes, but millet in natural form is good for diabetes. Also if you can only use like 30 percent millet and 30 percent sorghum flour in tortillas or bread what other flour is good to use with this. Would oat flour work. And it seems like rice flour would be bad for diabetics. Please help me understand.
Fat doesn't doesn't cause insulin resistance. I guess anyone can do a bit of research these days. It's rather the hyperinsulinemia that causes the resistance in the cells by pushing more and more sugar into them..
Millets regulate blood sugars. Along with providing nutrition to the body it cleans internal organs. so it is way better than rice and wheat . Taking millet fermented porridge is the first thing get used to it and start with other recipes .. It definitely helps slowly we can get rid of tablets. Anything u eat it is about quantity we can't have 300 gms of cooked millet and expect sugars to be low.. Eating proteins ,fats along with complex carbs or simple carbs is the main thing. The order we eat ..Make sure u have less carbs in ur meal. Only this can help reduce the load on pancreas.
Millets are ancient grains. Dr Khader has popularized this in India. In Bangalore, South India most of the Grocery store stock it. Dr Khader recommends to eat these five types of Millets. 1. Foxtail. 2. Browntop. 3. Little. 4. Kodo. 5. Barnyard. These are recommended based on their high fiber content leading to gradually release of sugar, which will not spike sugar levels. Thus very good for diabetics. The High fiber also helps mitigate constipation. Millets needs to be soaked for 4 to 8 hours and needs to be cooked on slow fire. Only down side is in few people with thyroid issue may get aggravated, hence, needs monitoring.

It is carbs and sugars processed foods and processed oils. A measure of insulin levels would show best. Fat is not the issue. There are many foods and herbs that can help regulate glucose. If you don't have diabetes watch your intake of all and if you do have it cut them out as much as possible.
I think this Physicians Committee has to learn more about millets by Dr. Khader and also do some reaserch. Dr. Khader vali wants scientists to do research on these millets. It's a great grain God has given us. I got malaria and it was sssoooo bad that my body felt like I was made of straw.. in about my 6th week of this illness I was given millet and in about 20 minutes my body felt normal again. Not kidding. Praise God our maker for wonderful food.

I've used millet to make porridge, Made it like and with rice. Polenta, and even something like a cheesecake decorated with fruit. Even a pudding! It's a very versatile grain.

39 grams of carbs per cup. It would take 2 cups to fill me witch would be 78 grams of carbs. That would spike my sugar 100 points for hours. You must eat small portions.

I lost 20kg over 1 year and brought down my hba1c from 6.7 to 5.0 over 3 months on Keto/Low carb diet. Test your blood glucose regularly 1-2 hours after meals to know what kind of foods are suitable for you...different individuals have different glucose tolerance. Even a few slices of low carb (GI 32) of whole grain bread - spike my blood glucose to well over 150!

The first time I cooked millet, it was so bland. But, thankfully, I tried again. Adding lots of spices makes a huge difference. And, now, I love it.

You are dead wrong. I am type 2 diabetic and thinly built. The more carb or sugar i take my sugar level spikes. Absolutely carb is the deciding factor for high sugar. Ever since i followed the keto diet, my sugar level decreased by 50%.

Not wrong…you are highly insulin resistant. Carbs will spike your sugar when your resistant. Maybe wrong for you. But not everyone. Individuals differ, your results affect you. But that is resistance.

Yes, that is right. Recently i took a blood test after i informed my doctor the relation between my sugar level and carb intake. Based on the results, my doctor told me that my body produces enough insulin and that I am not of type 1 diabetes.

Both are grains. Buck wheat noodles are recommended by Chinese Doctor for their Diabetic patients. While millets are given people just have surgery and women just give birth to gain their strength back. Millets are super food in China. Very nutritious.

Very true Rajesh Talwar. I am following him only by watching his you tube videos and have come out of Diabetes and BP and also no other health issues. One must listen to his lectures on you tube and they will come to know that he never speaks for his own benefit. He only speaks only for the benefit of all. I have realised and experienced this.
Made the waffles and I did enjoy it. I used an immersion blender to break it down more. Enjoyed them a lot. I did add some cinnamon to the recipe.

@@johnmatthews4822 Yes steaming is the way to go. In fact, I steam most everything, millet, amaranth, veggies, potatoes, you name it. Best tasting, healthiest way to cook food in general.
You need to cook it w/ 1:2 water ratio. 1c of millet+2c water in a rice cooker. If in a pot, wash it and add it into your water upon boiling.
You need to soak them ahead of time for like 4 , 5 hours and then you can cook them in instant pot, slow cooker or in whatever way you want to. I eat millets on daily basis and I love it!!

As a diabetic I have to differ with the doctor. I don’t need to go into an office to see how blood sugars effect me. My blood sugar meter lets me know. I don’t drink anything but water and with a small potato, pasta, bread, rice and beans, fruits like bananas. I mind as well drink soda or eat a candy bar. They send my sugar sky high. Grass fed butter, coconut oil, olive oil, avocados, don’t spike my blood sugar. If anything they regulated my periods and balanced my hormones. It satisfies my hunger. I went from vegetarian to low carb pescatarian and I’ve never felt better. I have fish 2 times a week. My A1c finally dropped from 10.6 to a 4.8. No medication and in record time. My labs are great. I’ve accepted that my body has a certain kind of allergic reaction to some carbs. My mental fog or lethargy is gone. I have an abundance of energy which finally helped me kick the coffee I needed after eating breads, pastas and so on. I use to experience what is called carb coma after I’d consume those foods. My mind did not have a off button for those foods because I was always stuffed but hungry. At the end of the day you have to what is right for you. If one thing does not work, then find another.
Have you ever gone truly low fat? Are you a healthy weight? If not then the carbs will still impact you greatly. Because the fat in your body blocks the release of insulin. You are taking this out of its full context
@@maryellenbunce7751 I grew up in the era of that crazy woman from “stop the insanity”. My mother had her book and exercise video. She taught me how to looked for fat everywhere. When I had chicken breast, which was the only meat I ate because it was lean I use to Squeeze the meat with a napkin. I was petrified because diabetes runs in my fathers side of the family. For this reason my mother wanted me to eat as healthy as possible. I practically blame my family for getting sick. They use to eat their fried chicken and fried foods, Along with the McDonald’s, chips and sodas. I felt that they went looking for diabetes. I had seen diabetic amputations and blindness from an early age. So I was a health nut. I was fine through my late teens and twenties but when my 30’s hit I started gaining weight. I decided to become a vegetarian. I did skimmed milk and did not consume cheese. The weight slowed down but it continued. In hindsight I should have consumed more greens but I love my wheat bread, Pasta, rice and beans with sautéed eggplant, potatoes. I have Juicer so I made my beets,carrots, and orange juice which I still love. At around 32 I just could not stay satisfied and was hungry more often. I started putting on weight. At my physical everything was great including my morning blood sugar. I did not understand the concept of blood sugar vs insulin. I did not know that my body would make more insulin to compensate for a sugar overload. That blood sugars show up when the body no longer makes enough insulin to bring that sugar back to base. I also blamed my lbs gain on my desk job. My supervisor told me that everyone gains at least 10lbs in the first year. I was gaining more weight, another year another physical and my fasting blood sugar was fine. But I was uncontrollably hungry. In five years I gained 40lbs.
I skipped 2 physicals which was my mistake and completely irresponsible. One day I felt like I was going to pass out. I was fatigue, could no longer stand, and could not breathe. I was rushed to the ER and after some tests they found out I had a mini stroke. I could barely move my left leg. My left arm was weak. They took my blood sugar and it at 303. I still remember because it was shocking. My regular doctor never did an a1c or a GTS. Nor did I know about those tests. I bought a meter which I should have always had and started testing my morning blood sugars and the foods that I ate. Everything I loved was stressing my pancreas and liver. I had to loose weight but could not go for a walk much less a run and was desperately looking for a way to loose weight and lower my blood sugar. I still had shortness of breath and fatigue. I know a-mini stroke is a warning of a big one. So what ever I did in the past was obviously not working. I thought of just going vegan but the only things I consumed that were different were pasture raised eggs that I got from a friend that has chickens and organic skimmed milk.
Low carb high fat goes against everything I believed but I kept reading on it and researching the diet. I ran into Dr. Bernstein, Dr. Berry, Dr. Berg, Dr Jason Fung a nephrologist and diabetes specialist who was talking about keto, also low carb and fasting. I found Dr. Pradip Jamnadas a cardiologist that is recommending low carb and fasting. These doctors spoke with scientific research to back up there lectures. Still reluctantly I did low carb high fat. By fat I mean avocados, nuts and seeds, olive oils, I started to add grass fed butter. Even in my coffee and I started seeing results. I kept waiting to see if all that fat would give me chest pains but I felt better. My shortness of breath improved with intermittent fasting. I was not hungry and I was loosing weight without exercise. To my surprise, if you need to lower blood sugar fast, low carb will do it that’s besides the weight loss. If you need to lower high insulin levels intermittent fasting will do it. All I am saying is that if something does not work for you. You have to try another way. You can’t get stuck on dogma if your life is at stake. I am within the right weight for my height and age. I fluctuate between 3 to 5 lbs. I have recovered 100% and I’ve never felt better. I eat a ton of low glycemic cruciferous veggies, for fruits I have berries. For protein I now eat small amounts of salmon and sardines which also adds to the fats. I had to learn how to cook and eat differently but my 8 year old twins are more then worth it. I do not want to be burden for them and I want to be there through all their graduations and mile stones.
@@maryellenbunce7751 also I know what you mean about fat blocking the insulin production. That’s why I thought I was somewhat safe. That was my belief. I did not consume any fats. Yet in my case fat did not make me fat, complex carbohydrates did. It might not be the case for a normal person but I have a predisposition for type 2 diabetes. Think of it this way, not every fat person is a diabetic. Nor does it mean they are going to get diabetes. In order for that theory to be completely true, every fat person with a belly should be a diabetic. I was not fat I was stocky like Dr. Milton Mill. He is fine, yet I got diabetes. I have vegetarian friends that are of Indian heritage, who are also chunky. As far as I know they’re not diabetics, although they are seeing an increase in their community. I am not completely clear as to where it comes from but I definitely know a way to get it out of my life without meds and for that I am grateful.

I am thoroughly confused. One thing on utube says millet flour good for diabetics. I have prediabetes. Another says millet flour is not good for diabetes, but millet in natural form is good for diabetes. Also if you can only use like 30 percent millet and 30 percent sorghum flour in tortillas or bread what other flour is good to use with this. Would oat flour work. And it seems like rice flour would be bad for diabetics. Please help me understand.

Fat doesn't doesn't cause insulin resistance. I guess anyone can do a bit of research these days. It's rather the hyperinsulinemia that causes the resistance in the cells by pushing more and more sugar into them..

Millets regulate blood sugars. Along with providing nutrition to the body it cleans internal organs. so it is way better than rice and wheat . Taking millet fermented porridge is the first thing get used to it and start with other recipes .. It definitely helps slowly we can get rid of tablets. Anything u eat it is about quantity we can't have 300 gms of cooked millet and expect sugars to be low.. Eating proteins ,fats along with complex carbs or simple carbs is the main thing. The order we eat ..Make sure u have less carbs in ur meal. Only this can help reduce the load on pancreas.

Millets are ancient grains. Dr Khader has popularized this in India. In Bangalore, South India most of the Grocery store stock it. Dr Khader recommends to eat these five types of Millets. 1. Foxtail. 2. Browntop. 3. Little. 4. Kodo. 5. Barnyard. These are recommended based on their high fiber content leading to gradually release of sugar, which will not spike sugar levels. Thus very good for diabetics. The High fiber also helps mitigate constipation. Millets needs to be soaked for 4 to 8 hours and needs to be cooked on slow fire. Only down side is in few people with thyroid issue may get aggravated, hence, needs monitoring.

It is carbs and sugars processed foods and processed oils. A measure of insulin levels would show best. Fat is not the issue. There are many foods and herbs that can help regulate glucose. If you don't have diabetes watch your intake of all and if you do have it cut them out as much as possible.

I think this Physicians Committee has to learn more about millets by Dr. Khader and also do some reaserch. Dr. Khader vali wants scientists to do research on these millets. It's a great grain God has given us. I got malaria and it was sssoooo bad that my body felt like I was made of straw.. in about my 6th week of this illness I was given millet and in about 20 minutes my body felt normal again. Not kidding. Praise God our maker for wonderful food.

I've used millet to make porridge, Made it like and with rice. Polenta, and even something like a cheesecake decorated with fruit. Even a pudding! It's a very versatile grain.

Millets should be soaked 6 hrs
39 grams of carbs per cup. It would take 2 cups to fill me witch would be 78 grams of carbs. That would spike my sugar 100 points for hours. You must eat small portions.

I lost 20kg over 1 year and brought down my hba1c from 6.7 to 5.0 over 3 months on Keto/Low carb diet. Test your blood glucose regularly 1-2 hours after meals to know what kind of foods are suitable for you...different individuals have different glucose tolerance. Even a few slices of low carb (GI 32) of whole grain bread - spike my blood glucose to well over 150!
