Quick question: Why do all of the different coloured noises seem to do the same thing? I remember seeing green was « relax, sleep, study » and brown was « clear your mind » (or something). The impression I got was that they all accomplished different things. However, I’ve seen green, white, red AND brown with the same things written.
Great question. All colors of sound have their unique sonic signature and we can easily hear those differences. Over time some generalizations have been formed for each one that may help guide people in choosing which one for a specific situation. Scientifically speaking they are all noise and behave the same way. The only difference lies in how each one has been filtered. The filtering process is what gives each one a specific sound. If you want to know more about this filtering process I go into much more detail in the video descriptions for each color of noise so you may have a look there if you are interested. With the basic understanding that they are all noise and all capable of masking other sounds it primarily comes down to two factors: the listening environment and personal preference. Some listening environments may have more high frequency content than others, for example an office compared to a bedroom. To mask the high energy office type of environment you may find a white or pink noise to be more effective due to the larger amounts of high frequency content that has been allowed through the filtering process. The bedroom environment typically has much less high frequency content therefore the noise needed to mask it doesn’t need as much either. So a green or red/brown noise that has filtered out a greater deal of those higher frequencies can be a much more enjoyable color to listen to in these more gentle environments. In the end whether your goal is to sleep, meditate, focus, or simply clear your mind it really becomes subjective and highly relative to the listener and their environment. All the different colors of noise can assist you in achieving any of these states of mind but you may find some more enjoyable or effective in certain environments. Hope this helps. Try them all and see which ones resonate with you. 😃💜
This is wonderful!
Happy you find it helpful !! It makes all the effort worth while. 😃💜
