    I find it funny how according to Beerdy’s stories, Bruce Lee not only is terrible at de escalating unnecessary confrontations, but he is also this weird insecure person that will try to hurt you if you happen to be another martial artist. 😄

    • @crotchy7667
      @crotchy7667 9 месяцев назад +3

      YES! This is one of the things that bugged me the most about Beerdy's stories: the idea that Bruce Lee didn't try to get along with people or work well with stunt actors and the crew. When in fact there are multiple stories told over the years that indicated that Bruce Lee, in general, does try to foster friendship.
      Most of those video clips that Beerdy shows seem to be obviously rehearsal photos or training exercises or working out choreography with the stunt actors.

    8mm home movie cameras were usually spring wound motors and shot 16 fps. Battery powered super 8 cameras (which came out in the 1960s) usually ran 18 fps, or 24 fps if they had sound. Old silent films from the early 20th century were usually hand cranked 35mm at approximately 16 fps. Professional sound films are usually shot 35mm (although there are other formats) and always standard 24 fps. Bruce did have a video camera and recorder in the late 60s, and some of those backyard vids were recorded on that.

    • @chrisbach1533
      @chrisbach1533 9 месяцев назад +1

      Very good explanation :)! I am very interested in this stuff. Funny is what ppl dont know that even today the standard for Cinema movies is still 24 fps like it was 50 yrs ago and earlier. Scott Adkins spoke about this with Steven Seagal in some of his podcasts. They shot many fight scenes at 22 fps and later run it with 24 fps, and then anything looks faster. You can see this in many Jackie Chan, Jet Li and Donnie Yen movies. If i remember correctly Kurt McKinney also stated they did the same in "No Retreat No Surrender" in 1984 (released in 1986), starring him and Jean-Claude Van Damme. The movie was Corey Yuen's debut in the USA.
      So or so: If you would record someone that fast like Lee with only 8 fps, you would see nothing. Such low framerates cant catch very fast movements.
      I am very sure many of Lee's Longbeach footage was shot at 16, 18 and 24 fps. 18 and 24 was the standard for Super 8 Cameras. When using it at 18 fps you had more minutes to record, at 24 it was sharper.
      The most famous homevideo in history, the so called "Zapruder Film", who recoreded the John F. Kennedy assassination in November 1963, had 18 frames per second. And when you see the color footage of Longbeach 1967, it looks exactly like the Zapruder film.
      I did a list about this once:
      If 18 fps, 1 frame = 0.0555555556 seconds, ~ 0.056 seconds = 56 ms (milisesconds)
      If 24 fps, 1 frame = 0.041666667 seconds, ~ 0.042 seconds = 42 ms.
      If 25 fps, 1 frame = 0.04 seconds = 40 ms
      If 32 fps, 1 frame = 0.03125 seconds, ~ 0.031 = 31 ms
      If 60 fps, 1 frame = 0,0166666667 seconds, ~ 0.017 seconds = 17 ms
      If 250 fps; 1 frame = 0,004 seconds = 4 ms
      If 1000 fps; 1 frame = 0.001 seconds = 1 ms
      FPS:
      Super 8 Camera: 18 or 24.
      Most VHS or DVD players: 24 or 25
      Television: 24, 25 or 32 (USA)
      Showscan: 60
      Human Eye and HD TV: 60-65
      Insect Eye: 250
      Super Slow Motion Camera: 1000 fps
      etc.
      This underlines how incredible sharp insects like bees, flies etc. can see this world. We humans see around 60 fps, they can see 250...that must be incredible. I am sure they see the world much more colorfull as we can.

    Growing up, Bruce Lee was my inspiration when my mother took me to see his film in the 70s along with watching Jim Brown, Fred Williamson, Pam Grier, Jim Kelly and all other Blackploitation films. Then she put me on USA Kungfu Theatre at the age of 6. The Venom Mob films and all Cantonese films changed my perception of Bruce. I am the biggest Phillip Kwok fan and loves to see all of the Shaw Brother's films. I'm saying all of this to say this, martial arts films encouraged me to take up American Karate and Pai Lum Kungfu.

    Yeah but you can tell Birdy's a serious martial arts expert by the highly technical terms he uses to describe Bruce's fighting techniques; Bruce didn't slip punches, he didn't bob & weave, or parry, nope, he was old school, he dodged punches. Thanks for suffering through this, Alex, I haven't watched anything from Birdy in a long time, his stuff is kind of tempting in a "Come on guys! This is clearly all bullshit!" kind of way, I don't want to add to his views, but I don't feel so bad seeing it in this format.

    What sources woould you namme for trustworthy information on Bruce Lee. I've read Matt Polly's book, and go by John Little since you talk to him, and since you all talk about Bruce Lee imperfections.

    Sifu , Bruce was martial arts instructor to the 🌟( James cobra Steve McQueen Sharon Tate) .John Saxon is a 🌟 from that back ground. With moderate training in Tai Chi. He said never wanted to play in movie like Enter the Dragon 🐉. When martial artists say something like that ( especially when he didn't do much But 👊 a foe in the balls!) U to consider Saxon a recreational martial arts Health person ( those who used martial movements to better their health ) I definitely seen Cobra a recreational martial exciser . That vertical back 👊 Bruce gave to John was probably a move "Roper "( Saxon) could make at Saxon's next appearance

    What I don't like is the title " if it wasn't filmed on camera you wouldn't believe it " and a picture of Bolo and Bruce as if actually fighting then only finsing pictures of what looks like rehearsal of a fight scene ..saying it was real.

      Sorry, we’re no longer doing AMA episodes from RUclips comments, only from our Patreons. Episode suggestions are always welcome, however, they just need to be topics that can be sustained for an entire episode

    This comment isn’t related to Beerdy, but I wonder about Bruce’s use of daily vitamins in HK. I know he was a big proponent of taking vitamins while he lived in the states. But then in Hong Kong, I wonder if he still had access to daily multivitamins, and if so, how did he feel while he was using cocaine but then taking vitamins for good general health at the same time? When I lived in Vietnam as recently as four years ago, it was difficult to find a good quality daily multivitamin. It would cost a fortune and definitely be imported.

    • @TheKungFuGenius
      @TheKungFuGenius  9 месяцев назад +2

      That’s a good question, I think in general the knowledge of cocaine’s long and short term effects was not as robust as today. Bruce also relied very heavily on a Playboy magazine article which discussed all the various drugs and held cocaine in a relatively positive light.

    Hi Alex, guess you are in Hong Kong right now, wish you and your guys a great time over there :)! Here a rare clip from Bruce kicking at full speed. This was faster then any kick he did in his movies, its the first kick he did with his right leg. He started with a left kick, then a right kick, and it was during sitting on the floor. It was recorded during filming of Game Of Death.ruclips.net/video/lSrSv7hmtYY/видео.html
